An Abundance of Doctors

Recommended Posts

*oops, sorry. No, that's just how I say it in my head...*

Fixed

EDIT: And the other one too.

Also, I just introduced the Honorable Sir Maestro Dr. Brightlord Seixa, Ph.D., M.D., LL.B., J.D., D.Phil., O.D., Psy.D., D.D.S., D.C., D.P.M., D.V.M., Pharm.D., N.D., S.J.D., Esq. in the Newcago Court .

"Sorry, sorry; I'm just not clear on how you medical types handle things. Obviously, I recognize that a doctor should purport himself with dignity. I suppose I just presumed that, what with all the urgent crises and emergencies you fellows deal with, you sort of dispensed with all of that. No offense was intended, I assure you."

Nowko cleared his throat. "Umm... you've got this, right? Like, this is totally routine? Because when you were telling her majesty how routine this is, I sort of got the impression that it... um... wasn't. And it's just that, well, you know, she's a really powerful public figure..." He trailed off uncomfortably.

"Standard tricks of the trade. If I say it's not routine, then a smart customer, like Queen Elsa, can tell I'm overcharging. But if I put my skills as an actor to work and look worried, while assuring her that everything is fine, her gratitude at a specialist who can safely remove it will be boundless. Check the unofficial (as of yet) rules that I nailed to the door. I know you've only adopted three, but take a look, at the last one especially." Seixa replied.

"As long as you're confident that you can handle this without any problems..."

As I've said before, I think the rules need to be more like mandates about what a doctor can and cannot do than guidelines about what tends to work best. That said, though, I'm beginning to think that you have a point, and that in addition to the rules, we should have a list of 'Tips for New Doctors', or something along those lines.

Earlier that day

Rab woke with a start. I'm... not dead? He checked his watch. 2 pm. He must have dozed off.

"That was the weirdest dream... What with Lawmen and scoundrels and all. Seems I'm all still here though." This was mostly to no one. Seemed there wasn't anyone else around.

He checked his pockets. Yup, still had his Lawman badge, and he still had his masking tape doctors badge on the front of his coat. Really need to get a fancier badge at some point. Then he remember Piffington's promise of a stethoscope. Maybe I'll go find him, see if actually he is going to give me a stethoscope, poisoned or otherwise, or if I was just imagining things.

"And I the same, some few nights back," mused Nowko. "What does it mean? Were they not dreams after all? I think this warrants some investigation. By a show of hands, how many here have had such a dream?" He raised his hand as he spoke.

"raises hand" I am still having that dream every night but for some reason I don't think it will be going on for much longer. People are dying at an outstanding rate!

We need to study this strange phenomenon of shared dreams! Any ideas on where to start?

I've added an 'About the Guild' section to the original post. I thought it was about time we began to decide the general shape of our guild, and how it interacts with the other guilds. I see us as serving, for a fee, as intellectual advisors and emergency medical aid.

I've also taken to referring to us as 'The Abundance', for lack of a more permanent name. I feel it has a certain ring to it, that 'Doctors' Guild' simply lacks.

Doc Piffington, I would like to request that the following be made available to our medical practitioners:

  • Simple Regrowth fabrials.
  • Unlocked goldminds, bendalloyminds, bronzeminds, cadmiumminds, and brassminds.
  • Shardscalpels (for precision spiritual work).
  • Assorted needle-sized hemalurgic spikes.*
  • More standard medical fare (bandages and stethoscopes and things).

*Medical supply spikes are for EMERGENCY MEDICAL USE ONLY. If you require a spike for personal or recreational use, I'm sure the Doc will be happy to procure one for you.

Piff, also please note that those of us without perfect memories, i.e. everyone but Seixa, need copperminds as well. What if Seixa has an emergency that requires 4 charged pewter spikes, 4 charged steel spikes, 4 charged brass spikes, 4 charged bronze spikes, 4 charged aluminum spikes, 4 charged duralumin spikes, 4 charged gold spikes, and 4 charged electrum spikes?
