  1. There's always space for waffles. That was AWESOME writing, Shiv. And the song was inspiring. ---- Following in Mistress Khamsi's footsteps, she stared at what was causing the commotion outside. The Domani had spoken to her last night before she went home and though she was still uneasy about the profession the woman chose, her running of the inn was firmly established. She agreed to call the woman Mistress Khamsi beginning today. If there was any doubt in her mind that the gleewoman was capable, it was all erased in a matter of seconds as she tasted the concoction she made. Rishi would call that dish Delight if it was up to her, but she heard her Mistress call it something else. Waffles. Yes, that was the word. It fit. Her unerring tastebuds cleaved to the name and she had to control herself from going back to the kitchen and making more. First things first. Outside, though it was morning, the sunlight was dimmed by dark clouds, like threatening rain. The village folk was hushed today, somehow collectively realizing that noise and panic will not do. Even Mistress Khamsi, upon realizing what happened, did not rouse anyone. Her joy and happiness at her creation, no, at the Creator's gift, was wiped out, and she turned around slowly, looked at Rishi, and threaded through the crowd towards her, with a dazed expression on her face. "All dead.", she whispered, almost unbelievingly and Rishi assisted the tall woman and helped her get back into the inn. As she fetched her some tea, she contemplated on the events of the night. She was hardy. And counted herself lucky. Everyday that she lives to take care of her little brothers is Light's Blessing. But inside, where she was most vulnerable, her heart was pounding, and she wanted to up and leave. Her instincts are telling her to run. Take her little brothers and get out of here, while there is still time. EDIT: A change request. Rishi went home to her brothers last night so wasn't in any of the inn's chambers. She would be in quite early though, as is her wont. EDIT: RP post (sorry GM I know you said no major changes, but I can't double post)
  2. Oh no, you are now officially in Feather's Favorite List! The keyword there is Renarin. Any love you show for him by extension reaches Feather. Beware...... Aaand...welcome!
  3. Oh, Panda. You remembered what I said the last time! I'm touched. And you've been giving away that toy panda to everyone. The same panda on the Wafflesworn shelf. -- Mine is only concern for Terisen. Yes, there is fear somewhere there, too. Instigating a rebellion would be a sight to see in this court. It would be enjoyable to say the least. And yes, there is order in this court. We sow chaos elsewhere.
  4. Thank you for clarifying Terisen. After all, the wrath of Chaos is a terrible thing I don't want directed to you. I can't say I will not get ringside seats to the show though.
  5. Blasphemy, to speak of such. How he gained his powers is a mystery (of subscriptions and licenses, ownerships and general adult-stuff) Do not speak of trying to gain what he has. Although he is all-powerful, he is benevolent, and we, as lords (and ladies) of Chaos, must wait for power to be bestowed. Be worthy. Sow discord. And gain power as He sees fit to give. I feel like Bellatrix to Voldemort. Ye gods.
  6. Argh, I wish I can move up my London trip! Another signing missed. *sniff*
  7. If I don't have 4-5 books currently in progress, there's something very wrong with my life. Either I've been too busy working, or just was too lazy to look for new material to read. With some Sanderson books, I read through till the end. I remember having one Cosmere and one Non-Cosmere book in progress for a time. I also usually have one book open that is just a rereading. And one non-fiction, for variety. And I always have one children's lit book open, just because it brightens up my day to read children's books and retain the wonder.
  8. So ironic...that Pattern in WoR is depicted similarly as the Logrus, ever shifting, ever changing. And yet, by virtue of its name should be the antithesis of Logrus. Hmmmm.
  9. I'm also ok with discussing it here in blue.
  10. Hi Elsa! I was going to ask you the same thing. Are you in the middle of a Brandon Sanderson book at the moment? Pika, you're probably too busy running from the pokeball at the moment, but when you do get a breather, you should prolly finish with the Mistborn series (Hero of Ages). Then start The Way of Kings.
  11. Xi raised one hand, palm open, which stopped the men from advancing to Zakk. A mischievous smile appeared on her lips before she closed her hand into a hard fist, starting a quickly expanding wave of power, throwing everyone out and away from their table. "Sit down, Z. You're too sweet. I was just kidding when I said I needed help defending my virtue.", she said, drinking calmly from her mug. "But I appreciate the gesture." The mug in her hand stopped midway to her lips when she saw that Zakk's attention was elsewhere, trained to the door. A dirty mirror on the side of the bar told her who he was looking at. A Kanii woman by the looks of her. "Karya...", she heard him breathe. She didn't move. Whether this woman is friend or foe remains to be seen. In the meantime, she will enjoy her drink. It's been a while since she had sat down in a real chair, with a real mug in hand. Too long had she spent in the forests scrounging. Too long had she been trying to survive the man hunting her down. I definitely agree with you, BT. That was a great first post, Quiv! Btw, do we need to have a PM thread to discuss the direction of the story or shall we just write whatever we want to write, and hope nobody contradicts what we say?
  12. *Bad idea for you to break free when you've been ordered to get in the ball. This may be a long painful chase.* --- Lol, threats first. Welcome to 17th Shard, PikaShard! Glad you liked Warbreaker, but...see what you did to Quiv? His eyes are glossing over, and he's started to chant "Naaaaatthiiiisss......" Have fun, explore, theorize, play, and most of all, share the love (of Sanderson) to everyone here.
  13. She laughed. A familiar husky, tinkling sound that felt like a memory of better days. "Nothing personal, Z. You were just in my way at that time. Who could've known the person I was trying to kill was someone you were hired to protect? All in the past now." She inclined her head and raised her mug for a toast. "So. What is this job? Or are we still waiting for others? I can't stay long here, Z. You know that the longer I stay in the company of these fools, the more you'll be in danger. You'd have to...defend my virtue before long." At that, she drank deeply, seemingly unaware of stares coming from the tavern folk. Hungry stares coupled with knives being drawn were a bad combination. She put down the mug. "I can command these louts with a word, you know. Men's minds are weak. That's why I always liked you, Z. You've always been immune to my charms." I haven't played D&D, so I don't know if you want us to adhere to its rules. Like you said, this is free form. However, is there a direction that you have in mind? Otherwise, things can go really far off and crazy, and this will look like a bigger version of Three-Word Story.
  14. I am not member of this guild but I was thinking of you earlier when I was having my latte.
  15. A light wind blew inside the tavern as a woman in red sauntered in. She had straight black hair that was as airy as the way she walked and her slanted black eyes surveyed the place as she looked for the mercenary. The men in the tavern looked at the intriguing-looking woman. They don't get many women in that place, and they have had to make do with tavern wenches with bad teeth and unmentionable diseases. Someone as clean looking as the Asian woman was a novelty. She was wearing a red cotton kaftan with intricate white and gold embroidery along the hemsleeves and low neckline, and right between her breasts was a silver necklace depicting the Hand of Fatima, which was also matched as a tattoo at the upper part of her back. She walked over to the mercenary, sat down gracefully in front of him, and gestured a tavern maid for a drink. Zakk was assailed with the jasmine fragrance Xiaoli was known for, and she smiled as she saw him appreciating the scent. "It's been a while, Zakk. I heard from the grapevine that you were looking for a team. You're just in luck. I just finished a job.", Xiaoli said. I need a bit of time to write the RP details for this character, but I can't resist participating.
  16. Everything that can possibly go wrong is going wrong in this town. If not for the fact that there are rumors of Trollocs in the outskirts of the village, Rishi is inclined to just bundle up her little brothers and go to another place to live - some place where they don't kill off villagers at random. And although she is tough as nails, she feels a frisson of fear now on the thought of walking back home. The day was busy. Reopening the inn took a lot of effort. Whoever knew that one day of being left untended can make an inn so messy and vandalized? Or that someone would have the nerve to rob the dead man's inn when he wasn't even cold in his grave? Even the stores of potatoes were not left untouched! The gleewoman was a joy to work with and she can only hope that their working relationship would progress to the point of trust. Unfortunately, she was not from around here, and though well-meaning, the beautiful Domani looked like she had a lot of secrets and a past she would rather hide. After all, she was the first gleewoman this town has ever seen. Rishi thought that the woman's profession was odd, but admired her for her spunk. As she cleaned up the mugs and plates of villagers who went to the common room to get a measure of what's happening, she couldn't help but feel sad that in a matter of a few days, the village has transformed into a place of suspicion, lies and false speculation. Being a tavern maid, she heard all sorts of theories about who did what, and who could possibly be doing the murders. Surreptitious looks exchanged over mugs of ale were usual now, and though they still humored with her and teased her when she served food, she can't help but notice that the smiles were tight and the laughter forced. She just shook her head as she tidied up. One last thing to do, which is to bring Waes, the wounded cobbler, some dinner. Then she's off for home, and the thought of walking back in the cold night brought goosebumps on her skin. --- This is a notable quotable. Kal Dell, you should put "My gut is a darkfriend." in your sig. My alarm went off 15 minutes before Day 2 ended and I wasn't able to vote yesterday, not that it would've made much of a difference. Upvote to Awes for the clearly written defense. Besides coordination does not have to be done in a single PM, and only with Awes. It can be small groups and meetings in dark alleys and corners (who said these places are only for DF's?). I believe he is who he says he is.
  17. You'd be surprised at how much trust we actually have in Lords of Chaos, BT. Chaos doesn't necessarily mean "without trust". It just means we are removing the air of unpredictability. Makes for interesting court life.
  18. Zigackly. But even knowing the hand that hires doesn't diminish the entertainment. It IS immensely entertaining.
  19. I'm from Manila, Philippines, Hailey. I noticed that you don't have a pin yet on the 17th Sharder Map, so feel free to post your location in this thread. Awww, BT, you're so sweet on your wife! I have never tried brewing it. Because there are too many tea places here, it's an easy thing to just order it at the nearest branch. It's just two to three dollars here to get a nice big cup.
  20. Ha, the things is if you have unlimited power, you wouldn't have to worry about wasting it. Incidentally, I am back from my road trip and have two days at home (17th) before travelling again. It's so hard to catch up! And why am I using blue???? Does anyone know who contracted Laughing Fool to duel Elsa? -- EDIT: My Lord Chaos, please accept my apologies for posting in NC. I just had to clarify their idea of trust within our ranks.
  21. We get matcha in most tea places here. Tea houses here are patronised more by the 20-30's crowd and not old ladies. :-) You should ask to have your matcha made as a smoothie with plenty of milk and cream. It's great.
  22. Rishi was distraught. This week was really not going well for her. After witnessing the Fool become Mayor, and the horse's "pronouncement", Gade's death seemed like an ending to a horribly written comedy. As she saw Gade's body sway in the wind, she backed out slowly and went home to think about what she will do next. These events could mean that the townsfolk have lost their wits and might look in her direction. Who was Gade's oldest employee after all? She shivered at the thought of what the villagers might accuse her of, when she was just a woman who needed to feed her younger brothers by working double shifts. She walked back to the Spruce Thicket, after a restless night, and decided right there and then, that she will continue Gade's work. After all, nobody else in this town can run a tavern the way she knows how. People here might think she's just a tavern maid, but Gade has been giving her more and more responsibilities with every year that passes. She stopped in her tracks when she saw the sign. Somebody has re-opened the inn. She opened the door, looked inside, and saw Khamsi, the gleewoman, sweeping the tavern common room. Not a bad idea, she thought. Two women are better than one. She approached the Domani woman, and offered her hand, "I believe you will need help running the place. I have been working here for too long to quit now, and I would like to ensure that Gade's hard work in building this place will not go wasted. I would like to run this place with you, if you will permit." I am at the tail end of my workshop tour this week, and can hopefully devote more time here. I just wanted to let you know I'm still here, before I start going on a 10-hour drive again. Will vote later when I get back home.
  23. Only all of the Cosmere girls? I thought those traits applied to most girls in general.
  24. My Lord, you can hardly blame people for desiring that status - especially given your displays of power. Do you judge worthiness on the merit of how one granted with that status will accept the immense responsibility that is tied with the privilege? Personally though, why one would want more work is beyond me. It looks more work than what it's worth. (I am, of course, appreciative, that there are people selfless enough to do it.)
