  1. Here: And in Dalinar's first vision there are men with hammers who follow one Radiant and glow faintly; though it wasn't a Windrunner, so perhaps other Orders too have some equivalent of squires. Also, after the epic battle between Kal and Szeth:
  2. Ah, I was too just thinking about this. However, I missed this thread and posted in the old one. Well, I guess I better share my thoughts here: I think it refers to Syl when she was still trying to protect Kal from the highstorm (and the STormfather) in the chasms after Kal betrayed his oaths and most of her intelligence and memories were withdrawn from her:
  3. After reading WoR I was reminded of this topic. I think refers to Syl when she was still trying to protect Kal from the highstorm in the chasms after Kal betrayed his oaths and most of her intelligence and memories were withdrawned from her: So I guess death rattles are indeed predictions of future events.
  4. Lopen isn't the first: I think they become squires when their bond with the Windrunner gets strong enough - loyalty, obedience, willingness to follow. When they express these qualities, they start sharing some of the Radiant power; at least the healing and likely strength and other physical attributes. If I recall correctly, Peter said to look for squires even in WoK; probably Kal's first specific Windrunner made him capable of forming squire bond with Bridge Four. edit: spelling
  5. Wow, that's some heavy foreshadowing indeed! And all the similarities... Coincidence? I don't think so!
  6. Ah, it's obvious. Sadeas saw Urithiru and was so pissed off by it (and the everstorm; I mean really! Highstorms, everstorms, non-stop storms, he really had enough) that Sadeas storming quited until Dalinar deals with the whole Desolation thing. So, Sadeas ditched Oathbringer and went to find himself a frisky new girlfriend to keep him busy until book 10. Then it turns out that chick he ran with was actually Vedeledev who taught him how to beat Odium, so in the last book he becomes Honor's champion.
  7. There was little to no stormlight when Dalinar and Shallan spoke their oaths (only a sphere in her case), so they couldn't have exploded with stormlight. I don't recall Lift's interlude that well, but wasn't she not so awesome after Darkness stole her awesomeness away? So I think only Kal so far was a position to shine. All investitures have some access to Shadesmar as far as I recall some WoB, but I can't provide a link. Most likely his ability to change gravitation field is connected to the Cognitive realm. I blame his parents. Also, wouldn't it have been strange for characters to be named after their Heralds before they have spoken any Ideals? It would be boringly easy to guess who'd be a surgebinder and their Order. Jasnah is closer to Jezereze in sound, yet she is of Battar's Elsecallers. I think it's strange that Shallan's name matches Shalash so well, not the other way around.
  8. She's Odium's evil back-up plan in dealing with Hoid
  9. Perhaps the spren withdrew because Elhokar stopped acting close to any Ideals of the KR and just let Dalinar take the lead. Though why they didn't push him like they did with Jasnah remains a mystery to me. May be they saw he wasn't ready at all. Of course, Kaladin and Syl showed as well. Ivory disliked even being talked about, but Pattern didn't care much about being seen in the beginning. I don't interpret his actions as hiding from Syl though; even in the arena with Renarin he flew away when Renarin was no longer in immediate danger rather than because Syl spook him. Plus we don't know if he saw Syl at all; it wasn't mentioned. I think Elhokar's story arc in the next book with be about facing those shadows and finally getting it right. That being said I suspect he will be of the Willshapers with transportation surge like Jasnah; seems like inhuman shape-like shadowy appearance will be their thing.
  10. A minor, yet powerful scene: when Dalinar fought Szeth. He realized he wouldn't have been able to save his brother all those years ago, and found peace in that.
  11. Here it is: So, the Stormfather made him abandon the Shardblade and refused to be one for him. Syl's negative reaction towards the Honorblade makes me think that would be unacceptable option for the Stormfather as well since it's just another reminder of a grand betrayal.
  12. I doubt the Stormfather would approve if Dalinar took the Honorblade. He told him he would be a Radiant without Shards; I don't think there's a loophole in it. The Honorblade felt bad to Syl, so I don't think it's an option. Perhaps if Dalinar could somehow get his hands on a Dawnshard, but that's not likely as of now.
  13. I've read this as meaning one of the Heralds was a traitor; just think how different Jezrien seemed to Kalak in WoK prelude. Though I really don't have more than a hunch to support it.
  14. I think the phrasing is interesting: destroy when they return; not after the Desolation. As in dealing with them is of great importance and all else can wait.
  15. I think the Heralds are an exception; they are not children of Honor and likely predate humans on Roshar. Jasnah's eyes are violet which isn't the color of Elsecallers, so Kal looks like the exception here. In WoK: My theory is Kaladin's eyes were dark blue and paled with his advanced use of stormlight. Shallan and Jasnah already had lighteyes, so nothing changed. Whatever causes darkeyes to have such blackish-brown eyes gets 'cured' with the right amount of stormlight.
  16. Helaran was said to be part of the Skybreakers; though I think he was an equivalent of a Windrunner squire rather than a surgebinder. There's a thread on this.
  17. I believe killing someone who isn't an immediate threat to your life or the lives of those around you, is considered murder. Dalinar and Sadeas were not at war in the sense of being legitimate to kill each other. And even cheaper than Jasnah! So, good for him imo. It was right, but not lawful. I wonder what the consequences would be. Will Amaram become Highprince or is Dalinar's prove enough to have him out of the way? Because if Amaram gets to this much power, now that's a whole new level of trouble for the Kholin family.
  18. Stonewards were among those who abandoned their Shards in Dalinar's vision of the Recreance in WoK.
  19. Ha! Mildly amusing, but no points to you. I already established that I use the poor jokes.
  20. It's not about the quality of the art, but the cool jokes about the ship. And that was a (poor) joke in the previous post, but it was kind of obvious, too.
  21. Szeth was in possession of Jezrien's Honorblade which granted him powers similar to the Windrunners; Syl actually explains this to Kaladin. I don't think Szeth ever had a spren, the screams are because of his guilty conscience.
  22. I think the publishers won't let it happen unless by 'around the same time' you mean in the same year. But I think 2016 is way too optimistic about WoW
  23. The word that bond Odium to the rules mentioned by Tanavast? Just a thought.
  24. We don't know how much influence Odium has, so it's an open discussion; no, I didn't feel out of character to me, but I can understand everyone who believes otherwise. Why wouldn't Adolin become a KR if he is fit for a Dustbringer? He is far more obedient than Kaladin. He hasn't disobeyed Dalinar so far despite the fact he strongly disagreed with him on many things. Adolin is obedient in his actions. But I really don't want to spam further, so I suggest you either pm me or we move this discussion to another thread
  25. Or perhaps the Stormfather only accepted one of those sentences and we don't know which.
