  1. It was a guy and Shallan's father lost a fight between them. Then Shallan's mother approached her, Shal killed her with the blade.
  2. I was under the impression everyone knew what really happened at the Tower, but considered it socially acceptable.
  3. According to the quote, Szeth had spiritual and physical bonds with the Honorblade and my impression of Shardblades is of a cognitive connection (they are spren after all), so it's different.
  4. Go back to the bookstore you bought your book and have it replaced. It happens sometimes, you shouldn't have a problem getting a new one with all the pages.
  5. I have the obviously unpopular opinion Kaladin fully deserved some time in prison. He over-stepped his position many times; talked a lot when it wasn't his place and got really arrogant. The moment Adolin paused to catch his breath when he asked for his boon, Kaladin pushed forward and made a scene. Yes, Elhokar reacted poorly, but that doesn't mean Kaladin was a blameless victim here. Dalinar did the right thing by not interfering with his imprisonment. If even he, the king's uncle, who constantly speaks of uniting, undermined Elhokar's authority for such a matter like one guard, then Dalinar would appear a tyrant; someone trying to seize the king's power because he knows and exploits Elhokar's weaknesses.
  6. I got the impression investiture is involved with larkins; may be a bond exist between the larkin and the human like with the Ryshadiums.
  7. I too think it was the voice of the dead spren and Relis only became aware of it as Kaladin touched the Blade.
  8. Hmm, I was certain there was a correlation between the Heralds and the Highprinces roles, but I can't find a quote to support it. Anyway, Jezrien is called Herald of Kings in Lift's interlude, I think you should add it. It follows the pattern of 'herald of something' and since Nalan said it, it's probably the correct version.
  9. I just noticed the woman on the second chart (Voidbringers' one) has her safehand covered. Is that significant or just a detail Brandon had no control over?
  10. Brandon has talked about killing author's favorite character as important thing to learn to do, so I think Dalinar will die, unfortunately. Renarin will live and have a major role after book 5 (he'll have a book, though this doesn't prove he'll live long, but it's logical) and Elhokar has much growing to do as a character alongside Renarin. Actually, both of them have the most potential, so I think they'll live if not to the very end, at least until the first arch is finished. About the rest I don't know. Navani seems like one of the first to go if only for the impact her death will have on Dalinar. Adolin is too reckless to survive to the end unless he goes through some character changes. Jasnah is the most scholarly of them, but I think once her role as a provider of lost/hidden knowledge is done, she will be gone one way or another. She has the potential to become a worldhopper and that might be the reason we won't see her after book 5.
  11. Fixed in the next book Ship almost confirmed!
  12. Where are those confirmations on Ash and Ishi? I thought the Heralds specialization was what Highprinces roles are based upon and I can't really imagine what a Highprince of luck or beauty would do. Also, there was a position of a Highprince of information in WoK and I don't see a Herald for this in your list.
  13. I don't know if there are WoB on this, but the general consensus is the letter is for Hoid from an Yolen dragon, who is somehow connected to the 17th shard.
  14. Isn't Shashara dead dead? Vasher killed her with Nightblood. The similarities of the names may indicate some sort of connection like plot twist! Vasher is Jezere and Ash is his and Shashara's daughter. But I doubt it.
  15. I wish Bluth had the chance to live up to the drawing. Not just heartbreaking, but also a bit of a omg-do-you-finally-get-why-killing-him-is-wrong-storms-you-are-slow moment. Regardless, it was a very emotional scene. Made me remember many Kal-Tien moments from WoK. Poor, poor Dalinar. All those years of guilt crashing him. But then: I had to take a break at this point. There were other scenes of course, but these two immediately came to my mind. Minor, yet so powerful... edit: Also this one: I swear I could hear Syl's voice in my head when I read it. She defied the Stormfather to go and find Kal the first time, she almost lost herself trying to cheer him up when she went for the blackbane leaf and she still fought for him after he betrayed his oaths and killed her. But Kaladin is still hers and the Stormfathers's will matters not.
  16. Having some spiritual wound is a must to be able to bond with a spren, though the wound could appear long before the Nahel bond. Ym has lost his family (he drank his heritage according to Nalan so his parents must have died before that), then lived on the streets. Plenty of opportunities for spiritual wound. His current bonding might be occurring now because the spren just arrived in our realm. We don't have any timeline when it comes to him; his murder could have happened years ago (though I doubt it) or any time during WoR.
  17. No, it's not strange. They were running for their lives with the highstorm and everstorm clashing right where they were. She most likely survived the fall as stormform is stronger and she had Shardplate, but unless she somehow became a full Voidbringer or something I can't imagine her surviving what happened. Kal saw rocks tossed hundreds of feet in the air, no Plate could save her from that. But i think she discovered some new form that allowed her to live. She's far too interesting to die so soon.
  18. There must have been a crack before, else she wouldn't have been able to connect to Pattern at all. Perhaps the Blade first appeared then, but her powers have been visible to her parents before. Also, I am curious how could a child guess the first Ideal. It's not that easy or obvious. Unfortunately, Shallan's book gave next to nothing new and provided a lot more questions. I think those are things we should have learned in Shallan's book. There weren't any big questions left with Kal in WoK. However, with Shallan it seems we'll be getting much more on her early years in someone else's book, which is odd.
  19. There are WoB about someone named Kryss (well, I don't know how to spell this name) who knows even more than Hoid and we haven't seen. Could be the wanderer. Of course, Hoid is so far the likeliest choice, Zahel (Vasher) and Nahz (with that mysterious woman he's writing to) are next in line. Well, may be Nazh not so much. I put before him, but after Zahel that Mraize, who mentioned someone even more suspicious:
  20. This certainly would fit nicely the Order. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. But it's good to know I haven't missed something obvious and there are different ways to read the said quote.
  21. 'Twisted' is like 'not sane' to me, just a step below insane. I agree though that Nalan has shown something similiar to the glowing effect of infusing with stormlight, however if he could surgebind he would have gotten Lift imo. Some members of Bridge Four also glow, but they are squires (which we still don't know how different from surgebinding is when it comes to abilities), so there are other explanations to his awesomeness. (No, I'm not suggesting Nalan is someone's squire though it's a possibility; there could be more ways for one to be able to inhale stormlight without being a surgebinder) Nalan didn't surgebind to get to Ym for example, but ran after him. He showed his blade then, but again no surgebinding; so my reasoning is that Nalan most likely isn't the Herald who went back for his/her Honorblade.
  22. Nalan hasn't manifested any surgebinding abilities (if this is still the correct word when said abilities come from Honorblade and not spren), so we don't know for sure who has his/her blade and I wouldn't say he's reasonable. He seems somewhat sane only if you really widen the definition. Taln came back with his Honorbladse and his mental state wasn't well from the beginning, but he didn't get worse without the blade. He didn't really communicate in Kholinar; only said who he is and from then on just kept rambling about the Desolation. He was doing the same while he was transported to the Shattered Plains and supposedly still had the Honorblade. So, I don't think there is evidence to support the Honorblade-mental state theory.
  23. I thought the quote referred to Skybreakers being exquisite engineers/fabrial makers or something, but I admit my command of English might be failing me here.
  24. I'm not sure if Dalinar and the Stormfather counts. All other surgebinders were found by their spren and Dalinar chose the Stormfather; it's different.
  25. I'm tired and misread your post. May be you are right and it is a memory.
