Compliment the person above you!
Elbereth replied to Delightful's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I mean, I'm currently playing my first game, so I'm not necessarily the person that you should think of for that. But I'm enjoying it so far! You are quite active in General Discussion, which is cool. You just stick around on the 17th shard and make friends with everyone. -
With our powers combined . . . We can plan a heist!
Elbereth replied to Sir Jerric's topic in Creator's Corner
A couple questions as I read through this. Talent does not recharge, ever? Can you have multiple powers (not using stealing)? If you can steal, and you steal more than one person's fuel, can you use the fuel from one to power the other's talent? If you're a battery, does your fuel return to you once the other person uses it, or is it gone forever? If you don't undo a simulacrum before it fades, do you reclaim its fuel? And if the object doesn't have eyes, how will you experience the memories? Only through touch? Explain Instinct control. I'm not sure I completely understand it. Does light transfer also mean that the objects switch colors? I really like alarm ward, temporal shifting and heat sync. Also, if you're in want of inspiration, also check out this thread. It's alternative allomancy, but some of the powers (particularly some of the rejected ones) might be of interest to you. -

Okay. Twi. You have made me interested enough that I went to the Reckoners RPG subforum and start reading. From the beginning. (this happened a week or two ago). I've been reading What Happened in Portland in sync with the original Question thread. I'm on page 18 of the RP and 72 of Question. I am definitely enjoying the madness so far, and Funtimes makes me laugh almost every time. I'm not sure whether to thank you or not...So I might join at some point in the future. After the myriad projects I'm working on, which I've already complained about to several people. A brief rundown- NaNoWriMo, secret 17th shard projects, 1st SE game, four musical ensemble concerts (and an audition to get into an orchestra tomorrow, after I had to replace three strings tonight), school stuff, and probably something else I'm forgetting off the top of my head. So, it may take a while. But the novel I'm writing right now has several superpowered characters, so I definitely have ideas.

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Elbereth replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, there have only been two traitor kills so far, and each "was an experienced player who was contributing a lot". So I don't know when you think they would have killed Adavantos. You're saying that Kas and Adavantos were equally fair choices for a kill, right? So maybe I'm not quite understanding you, but I don't know when you think they should have killed Adavantos. Also, on the topic of who to scan. I personally do not think we should scan Adavantos. Everyone is "nearly certain" that he's good. That's a lot better than we have on pretty much anyone else. So I would suggest we use the scan on someone whose alignment is more suspect. Also, I don't think Adavantos is a traitor, either, because of Kas' death. We know that Adavantos has had several roleclaims. If this is the case and Adavantos were a traitor, why would they have killed Kas, an univested crewmember, rather than someone they knew to be more important? Kas' reputation as an experienced player doesn't hold up when balanced against known dangers, to my mind. I also want to point out that if Adavantos isn't a traitor, all of the traitors would be very happy with him being scanned, so it's very possible that at least one of the people that voted for him is a traitor, if not more. So going on that, I want to scan Kaid. I think Hellscythe's reasoning is sound, and I don't have any other suspects. And he also voted for Adavantos. So, are my points sound? Edited for color. Edited again for the correct color because Queensteph is smart and I am occasionally an idiot.- 1686 replies

I mean, I've seen proofs of the Fundamental Theorem, but not why taking the antiderivative of a function gives you the indefinite integral. I'll look around online, though. Maybe I can find soemthing.

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Elbereth replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
While I still think we shouldn't lynch Wilson, I'm okay with this. I will be back to place votes later, but I do have one question. Why in the name of Harmony are we counting Wilson's vote? We are basically certain she's a traitor. I agree with the principles of democracy, but counting her vote does not seem wise. Just saying. Edited because I missed the s in "she".- 1686 replies

Great! I don't even know if I've read the Warbreaker annotations yet. I know I've read the Mistborn ones... Well, an *accepts cookie* would do. Or just say you're going to. Online forums are weird that way. Note for Fatebreaker: This does NOT mean I just accepted that cookie. I was simply providing an example. Actually, wait. *accepts cookie* *gingerly throws cookie into a convenient abyss*

I like Clarity, I think. There is some overlap, but still. Metal Incorporation reminds me of drafting in Brent Weeks' Lightbringer Saga. It is a rather strange concept, and a bit different from usual Allomancy. I like Blood Quickening. Exposure endurance I'm not so sure about, because I feel that it overlaps with pewter a lot. Maybe if you reduced it so it was just protection from extremes (i.e. hot and cold)? You could resist fire and sleep all night in a snowstorm (maybe- that's a little strong), but not so much of the durability part. Enhanced Body Control is cool. I like it a lot. Sensory Resistance is interesting. It's actually a lot like what I suggested for a variation on exposure endurance. They would go together, I feel. And you could adjust more quickly between light and darkness, I think. That could be an added benefit.

The Lonely Chatterboxes Club
Elbereth replied to Mistrunner's topic in Social Groups, Clans, & Guilds
Of course I've seen the movies! Not for a while, though. I'm more into memorizing random poems from the books, as I'm sure I've mentioned before. Also the first few pages of Chapter 1, just for fun. Also, my church is celebrating its elevnty-first birthday, and I'm so excited and no one else is. EDIT: Also. Twi. What.- 80 replies

That's great! Mistborn is always fun to start with. What do you plan on reading next? If you want (lots of) suggestions and some debate about order, see this thread. Bilg totally counts as a villain! A very small time one, true, but an antagonist nonetheless. You'll meet more, though, once you read the other books... so many more...

But there has to be an explanation for it! Why does the antiderivative of a function have the same value as y times x for any given interval? I don't understand this.
-
Hi! Welcome to the 17th Shard! What books have you read?
-
So we just did the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus today, which was cool. Also, for clarification, because my teacher isn't particularly good at explaining things: An antiderivative is the same thing as an indefinite integral, right? Why?

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Elbereth replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
That's certainly possible, but I feel that it is most likely that she is either a Surgebinder as I have suggested or a Voidbringer, as she has implied in PMs. A kandra could scan her role, I suppose, but I don't think it's likely that it would be particularly useful to anyone except herself.- 1686 replies

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Elbereth replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Ah, got it. Also, that was unexpectedly pretty interesting! Who's Davenar? He's not in the crew manifest. What's a WGG? And also, the profiles would be a lot less useful if everyone could see them.So. Several thoughts. First, one of the ways this works in the traitors' favor is that it diminishes discussion, which is irritating. Secondly, if she is a Voidbringer, couldn't we just have two Mistborn target her? Because I know there's been mention of multiple Mistborn claiming. Would that work? Would it be worth tying up two or more Mistborn? Third, it is much more likely that the Surgebinder who wrote the message was in fact a traitor. Otherwise someone got very, very lucky with a joke. In fact, I feel that it's very possible that Wilson herself is a Surgebinder. Thus it would be advantageous for the traitors to cut her out early. Also, you'll notice that there haven't been any more messages. That means either there isn't a loyal Surgebinder, or that Surgebinder is inactive and hasn't been paying attention. And we are planning to kill the inactives via Mistborn. So PMs have a good likelihood of going down within the next few cycles. Since we know Wilson is a traitor, I would propose to not lynch her or kill her yet. Obviously we have to eventually, in order to win the game, but we can treat her like we would a converted HI for now. Just ignore her until later in the game. This means we can lynch someone else for now (provoking more discussion), continue to kill inactives with the Mistborn, and leave her alone until we've killed some more traitors. So I will not place a vote on her for now.- 1686 replies

That's irritating. I might have watched such a show and not realized it yet, but I tend to read the stuff that's like "Adults are useless!" rather than the other way around. -

Ugh. That is so wishful thinking on the part of parents. I mean, admittedly I mostly read YA and adult fantasy, which are both full of coming of age stories and not so much...that...so I'm a little biased, but still. -

That sounds like a terrible novel! It's like the opposite of a coming of age story. Why do such things exist?
