You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Elbereth replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you're playing freerice with synonyms, and the word is "epic". It took me far too long to realize that the synonym was supposed to be "heroic", because Epic's aren't heroes! -
We have WoB that we haven't seen this effect for either Wax or Wayne, I think.

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Elbereth replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Thank you. So it is possible that the HI has already turned and just lied about the number of loyal Hemalurgists left. Not necessarily true, but possible.- 1686 replies

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Elbereth replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I think it's possible that the HI turned, maybe. He announced that there were 3 Hemalurgists D2 (including Maill). If he was already turned, he could have been lying, if Maill was the only hemalurgist and he was told that he was turned at the beginning of D2. Wyrm, if the last Loyal Hemalurgist is killed on a particular night, when is the HI notified? The following day, or the following night? If the following night, he's almost certainly still loyal, unless two of the Hemalurgists that contacted him were evil. With that said, while it's possible that he's turned, it's obviously not guaranteed, so we're basically treating him like a normal person under suspicion. EDIT: While I realize that there has been a kind of lynch train on Honey, it also makes sense to me, because pretty much the only thing he's said this game is "hi", several days ago. He never really started actually doing anything (correct me if he began speaking in PMs, but I haven't heard anything from him).- 1686 replies

Still Having a Bad Day? Exchange Your Rants For Hugs Here!
Elbereth replied to Silverblade5's topic in General Discussion
*hugs* -
Hm. I don't have anything really from those, though Ruin/Preservation reminds me of entropy. The pushing metal increases entropy, the pulling metal decreases it. Or something. Other than that... I've got nothing.
-
Hi! Welcome to the 17th Shard! Have you read any of Brandon's other books?

What does she even lecture you on? It's not like you could have let him out. You were at work. It is entirely her fault that she didn't see his signals. -
I read it on ebook for the first time, so I could definitely be discreet that time. After that I carried the hardcover, and...yeah. Comments. Mostly from teachers, actually.
-
Your choice, as long as you put them in spoiler tags if you do post them all at once.

That's completely fine! Rereading Sanderson books is really helpful in genereal, because he packs so much in there that you can't possibly get ti all the first time.

I've never even had a Turkish delight, but it still has evil connotations because of Narnia.

They don't have the interconnectedness of the Cosmere, and obviously they're not finished yet, but I'd say they're worth a read after Warbreaker. How's Shadows of Self going?
-
Oh. Duh. I forgot about that one. That's a good one. I think I actually just memorized it by osmosis. I didn't really intend to, I just read it enough times.

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...

Is there a particular order within each section? So, is Alfa the best and and Burnt Spaghetti the worst, or are Biggoron and Alfa equally good? I meant to ask this a while ago, but I forgot. What's an OMGUS?- 1686 replies

With our powers combined . . . We can plan a heist!
Elbereth replied to Sir Jerric's topic in Creator's Corner
Kobold, I like the way you think. -
Kipper... *glares* Why do you even have Tim Tams? Although Tim Tams are actually really good. Anyway, welcome to the 17th Shard! So you've read Mistborn, Elantris and Stormlight. Have you read any of the others?
-
Also, I fully support your poem-learning. Which verson of A Elbereth are you learning? (There's three.) Also, which one about Aragorn? I don't remember any about Aragorn, unless you mean the Where now are the Dunedain, Elessar, Elessar? one. And you mean The Road Goes Ever On and On from the Hobbit, right? Not the variations in LotR? Thos would be really pretty in scripts, too. And definitely do it in Tengwar, if you learn Tengwar! I'll get to you after Edgedancer, then! This is actually really fun, and this way I can renew all of my old Silmarillion knowledge that I haven't used in a while.

Oh, cool! If you want a really good resource for Tengwar (beyond just the usual this), you might try this pdf, and just go to the English mode section. It's quite good. I like Tengwar because of the system of putting vowels on top and such, so "limelleth" (my old username) is 4 characters long. It's very cool.

I mean, I just thought the ward was very original. You could... I don't know. Enchant your doormat so that you know when people are coming. Could you enchant a person? Would the alarm still go off when they're sleeping, or just when they're awake? You could enchant the doors of a cell, or the lock, for obvious reasons. You could enchant anything you don't want stolen. Etc., etc. -
Even Brandon's books for younger audiences are still quite good. Definitely at least try them. And Calamity's coming out in February, so maybe you can catch up on Steelheart before then. It's only two books! Wheel of Time is worth it. Books 7-10 get down into a slump, but they pick up by 11, and the rest are just brilliant. I haven't checked it out, but try here.
-
Very good! I see that you haven't read anything non-Cosmere yet, which I highly recommend once you're done with the Cosmere stuff. How is Shadows of Self going so far?
-
I don't remember how long WoK took me. But I do remember timing WoR for myself, because I was curious about my reading speed. Total time including everything else: 39 hours. Total time spent reading: 13 hours. That's right. I spent 1 in 3 minutes reading, including sleeping time. It wasn't even a weekend. It was a normal school day (during which I paid very little attention in classes, because I was reading.) I finished the book in Algebra class, and I was full of a ton of emotion that I couldn't express becuase that would draw attention to the fact that I had no idea what was going on in class. It was very frustrating.
