I'm back! Mostly! Two of my three tests are done, anyway. Third tomorrow. Decided to take a break from studying to post. Why do you think they didn't start with an Alerter, exactly? I don't really understand that. While I think it's possible, I seriously doubt it, unless a Shardblade wielder claimed to someone else ahead of time and said they would be killing Trelagist. If that's the case, that person is definitely not cleared, and it'd be nice to know if that happened. Otherwise? There was a pretty high chance of a Villager targeting Trelagist, which would basically make the kill redundant for the eliminators, and telling someone later that they killed Trelagist wouldn't be particularly effective in making people trust the wielder. To my thoughts, anyway. On a tangential note, trusting the Shardblade wielders and trusting the claims are two different things. It would be very easy for a GB to claim that they had a Shardblade and had made one of the kills, and each of the actual killers thinking they'd been the only other. Unless the two wielders got in contact, or one claimed (which would be fairly unwise, I think, at least publicly), no one would figure it out for a while. Is this scenario probable? No. But it's possible. How did he bait the Ghostbloods into attacking him? His plate wasn't exhausted. That's obvious just looking at the writeups. There was never a person protected from a kill until this turn, so he hadn't taken a hit at night, and we hadn't lynched him during the day. So his Plate couldn't be shattered. You could argue that the Ghostbloods didn't notice, but I would prefer not to underestimate their intelligence. Not exactly, for me. More... self-conscious, when I think about you, aware that you're watching, but unable to do anything about it, and unable to see you in return. I'm confused by basically everything here. Why would attacking DC take a lot of planning on the part of the GBs? Or do you mean to imply that DC's a GB and they did a WGG? Because that makes little sense, since he hasn't claimed he was attacked despite the opportunity to do so. And in that case, it still wouldn't take a lot of planning, since he does have Shardplate to protect him. And why do either of those options say you should look at people who voted for Wilson? If anything, I'd look at the people who voted for DC. The general consensus in thread, as far as I understood it, was that he had a Shardblade. At the very least, (if he's not an eliminator), he had much better chance of having a Shardblade than Wilson. And the GBs would want a Shardblade. So I'd expect them to have voted for the most part for DC. And I think the GBs would want to kill either of the duelers. Because 1) both are guaranteed to have Shards which the GBs want, and 2) they're both fairly agreed upon to be Villagers. (And if Wilson's a villager, they'd particularly want to kill her for who she is, while it's well known that DC has multiple items and has been partly cleared for various things, I think.) This brings up a question I meant to ask last turn. Why did you say you have a Spanreed in thread if you weren't going to open PMs with everyone? As I see it, the two ways to use a (permanent) Spanreed are 1) don't reveal that you have it and only contact a few people you trust not to be a thief or a GB trying to get rid of info-sharing, or 2) start a PM with everybody. Reason I'm saying PM everybody is because only PMing the people who ask for it eliminates the potential information from people who don't ask for PMs (particularly because the PMs you set up last night could be useful later down the line in ways you don't expect, and if you have another Tier 2 item PMing everyone in one night allows you to use that item instead of having to use a Spanreed again), and if you're asking for a PM (particularly if you usually don't), it paints a target on your head for the eliminators, because you're basically saying you have information but you dont' want to say it in thread. I'm rereading the thread slowly, and should have an actual list of suspicions and stuff (which is why everyone's been suspicious of me, I know) by tonight or tomorrow. (Depends on how much more studying I decide to do for the physics subject test... )

I would guess GB, since there's more of a likelihood of a Grandbow user deciding not to attack than the GBs forgetting. The latter isn't impossible, though. And I don't think a Pain Knife block would show as someone being attacked in the writeup. Maill?

Well. I'm going to venture a guess that Joe's Shardblade did not end up in the hands of the GBs, then. Which is excellent. Also, there are two Shardblades in the game. Interesting how one of them hasn't shown up until now. Equally interesting is how our Grandbow user, up to this point as regular as clockwork, for some reason decided not to kill. Or was roleblocked, perhaps? Although two kills being blocked in the same night would be stretching my credulity... Did anyone get attacked?

I could... But I know nothing about Death Note. Or Japanese culture. Or Interpol. Or what it's like to work at anywhere even vaguely similar. So... I don't know how exactly that would work...

Couple comments I meant to make last cycle but forgot: I agree with this for the most part, but I wanted to point out that if Trel is a GB, I'd argue not that the redirecter was a Noble, necessarily, but that they were made up to explain why Trel got the Grandbow. However, I don't know anything about the redirection claims, so maybe there's something that proves the Soulcaster is indeed real? Not really an important point, but I'd put the evil team at more like 5 members rather than four. (Unless it has more than one experienced player on it. Which is possible, given the number that are playing this game.)Stuff regarding this cycle: Nyali, I can think of one other in-game reason for DC to declare a duel: Information. To try to get everyone to pick a side and get something more to analyze. For instance, if the GBs don't have Joe's Shardblade, I'd expect more of them to have voted for DC than for Wilson, because they wanted a chance to get that Shardblade. (I mostly thought of this because of Maill's Thaidakar gambit in MR10, for those that remember that.) Now, do I think that's really his reasoning? I don't know. I don't know if he thought it through that much. But it's still a possibility, and one worth bringing up. DC, my question to you (other than "why do you think Wilson is innocent and when did that change?") would be why you suspect Kas. I can understand you suspecting me, I guess, since there's been some suspicion placed on me. (Which, as I understand it, is mostly gut and me being more helpful than suspicious of people. Is that correct?) But Kas hasn't even been around for a few days, and he didn't post much before that. What are you seeing from him that makes him so suspicious? Also, I'm probably going to go dark for a couple days because of three standardized tests in the next three days and half a textbook to read. I'll still respond to PMs, but I likely won't be posting. Sorry! I'll definitely try to post by end of Day 5, if I'm alive.

Do you know how many times I had to do a "no one dies" writeup in LG19? 2 days in a row (first two of the game, no less), 2 nights, and then another day. 5 turnovers where nothing happened. Not to mention that the lynch was almost exclusively used to kill near-confirmed evil players and not actual suspicions. And at no point were there more than three player deaths in a turn. Which happened once. Sure, this is a bigger game, but still. We're doing much more than in this game.

How has the village not been doing things? We've had a lynch every day this game. Which is more than can be said for certain other games recently. There have been at least three kills every night, including N1, and that's definitely not the work of the eliminators alone. What do you define as doing something if we haven't been all this time? To my mind, you've only forced us to make a choice between bad and worse. If I were to vote, I'd vote for you, DC, because Wilson's play seems more useful to the game. But I will choose to abstain, I think, because what I'd really like to happen is for neither of you to be lynched today. Probably won't happen, I'm aware. But it's what I think should happen, and I'll stand by that.

Um... the main problem I see is that all of the Public Officials are going to get lynched immediately, unless their noble friends try to attack them. Did you mean that Public Officials are non-Allomancers in the Government faction? Because that would make more sense.
-
Oh, yeah, I'm not saying the search isn't worthwhile. I was just saying that I doubt people will come forward claiming to have gotten an Artifabrian item, because that's suspicious (if they're a villager) and draws pressure off Wilson (if they're an eliminator and she's not).

Mid-Range Game 13: Treachery on the Terris Peaks

Well, there was no point not to reveal, given that I PMed everyone. I don't think either of us could lie about PMs being closed. Wilson definitely couldn't, since Maill pronounced them closed in thread. I theoretically could have, I suppose, by just saying "CLOSED" in every PM, but I just asked Maill if I could because it was fun. Just try to use one of them and you'll see if it's closed or not. (Please don't, though. Maill would be unhappy.) I'd say it's at least a bit of a risk. Since that'll get suspicion on you as well, just because the item you received could have been from Orlok. Or, alternatively, you're an eliminator and want to see Wilson lynched by mistake. I feel like they'd be very happy with that.

I mean... why would you revealing your suspicions to me make me (as an eliminator) more likely to kill you? I mean, maybe if you were exactly on point with everyone, but if that were the case I'd be much more likely to let you live, since killing you would only validate your suspicions. And there are death cries, so it's not like I could hope that the information would die with you. That'd invalidate the entire point of killing you to get rid of your suspicions. Basic summary of what happened in the PM, by the way: El: Hi! Yafe: Hi! [discussion of how there are a ton more assumptions/guesses this game than in LG19] I trust DC. Also somewhat Zas for his analysis of Orlok's posts. Also I think Lopen might be evil, and also I want revenge on him. Also I'm leaning evil on Wilson. And we shouldn't trust anyone who voted for Luna. El: [more discussion] Of the people who voted for Luna, who's most suspicious to you? Yafe: Nyali and Joe. Gut read. That was basically it. And he seemed much more uncertain in the PM than in this death cry, for what it's worth. I got a Spanreed made N2, obviously.

I don't even care that you're suspicious of me.The fact that you used the words "quantum fluctuations in my suspicion-space" just makes me really happy for some reason. Nyali, that's not very standardized around here. In this game, I believe Maill's clarified that if you're redirected you will be notified who you were redirected to. In other games that hasn't been the case (LG16 is an excellent example of that). If you use a Painrial, you'll know if it succeeded becuase you won't be able to use it for a turn, because it has a cooldown. But I don't know if you'll be notified you've been attacked if you're protected.

Because he just said his spanreed was stolen? I mean, he could be trying to cause paranoia by implying that there's another thief out there when there's really not... I guess... Seems unlikely though.

I'd say that if you know enough to realize you're pulling the newness card, you're not allowed to pull the newness card. (That said, I'm a complete hypocrite on that front. I definitely pulled the newbie card my first time, albeit somewhat subtly. Worked quite well, too.)Kynedath, condolences. Do your family things. We'll still be here if you come back, and that's definitely more important than a game. The feeling is mutual. Joe, someone did use a Reverser. Because my vote's not there. But can you change a person's vote to no vote? I wasn't aware of that, if you can. Maill?

Final Thoughts First off, this game was an absolute blast to GM, as the GM doc attests to. There were so amny crazy shenanigans and things going down that it was simply amazing, and Phatt and Kipper were both awesome. Props to both of them, definitely. We had a ton of fun this game, and I look forward to working with them again. Operation Windwhisper Operation Windwhisper... well. A lot of my thoughts are in the spec doc already, but I'll summarize. First off, if we ever reran this I would say that the GM PM counts towards Feruchemical tin, and niz it right there. But this game it was a clever use of the power, so we let it slide. The main problem with it wasn't really the plan itself, honestly. It was how early the plan was created. At that point in time, there had been two PMs. Two. So only four people couldn't be cleared. That's pretty problematic right there, for the eliminators. The eliminators could have bypassed the plan fairly easily. If they'd said they'd made PMs before the plan was announced, it would have been fine, in all likelihood. They also could have claimed Kandra (although they didn't know there were no kandra) and been fine. And once Yafeshan was going to be revealed anyway, it would have been easy to just PM everyone and nix the plan right there. So it's not like the plan was completely game-breaking in that sense. The other problem with it was that... well, everyone allowed it to happen. No one decided that they just wanted PMs and didn't care about the plan anymore. It's like... It was a plan that could win the game. But it wasn't fun. And when something's not fun for you anymore, it doesn't matter if it's the best strategy or not. Don't obey someone else's orders if you don't want to, regardless of whether what they say is the best strategy or not. So that's why I really didn't like this plan. Because it was intelligent, but it wasn't fun. Lynching The other thing that was very irritating this game was the lynch. You guys have 48 hours to lynch, and for the majority of the days you did not use those lynches. No one was even lynched until Day 3, and that was Yafeshan. Guys. I know that the mechanics and stuff are interesting, but seriously? The lynch is at the core of the game. It's how you catch the eliminators, even if you don't have any powers. But no one used it, and that was sad. Tangent to that. There was also very little analysis done this game. No one was killed because they said something suspicious or promoted the wrong person or whatever. Everyone relied entirely on the Seeker roles to figure out who to kill. Don't rely on others to figure out who are the eliminators. Figure it out yourself! Items and Chance The amount of luck that went into this game was ridiculous, particularly regarding items. Lopen searched 17 times in a row before he finally found something. Araris found three beads of lerasium, which basically allowed him to decide who won the game. The only reason the Spiked won was because he decided to do a double-enhanced Ironpull at the end. (Although I would argue that the eliminators had a good chance of winning had Araris not lynched Lopen out of the mistaken belief that he was the most active and dangerous Villager.) The outcome of the game was based on pure chance. Which isn't exactly ideal, in my opinion. Also, the sheer amount of lerasium in this game was insane. In theory, the 1 in 24 chance is supposed to deter lerasium from being found, so in this game lerasium had an equal chance of being put into a room as, say, a Wooden Shield. This would need to change, I think, if this were rerun. Lerasium should not only be more difficult to find, but more rare in the first place. Same with the Hazecrusher. LG11 This game was much less confusing than LG11, I think. Part of that was because we simplified certain things (not having Kandra, for instance, which made the game much less complicated), and part because there were three of us and we had the 24 hour dark period in which to set everything up. I would say that we didn't even really need that 24 hour period a good deal of the time, and some minor adjustments to the spreadsheet would make it even easier to get everything ready. So while the game was still confusing and complicated, I'd still say that it was an improvement. Eliminators/Balance The eliminators had the game a little bit balanced against them from the start, I'd say. A good deal of this was because I didn't have the foresight to see that Maill would immediately attack Hael, taking out the main strategist of the four. That was... problematic. The eliminator team wasn't completely inactive for most of the game, but it got pretty close at times. It didn't help that three Spiked were taken out within the first 3 cycles. There were conversions later on, true, and Lopen talked a good deal for the 48 hours he was Spiked, but in general that doc was very quiet. That was a big problem, in my opinion, and why they got so close to losing the game. Side note - props to Yafeshan. As an eliminator in your first game, you did very well. Nicely done. Regarding balance, though, this game is basically unbalanceable, because of the sheer amount of chance that goes into it, and the complexity. We did the best we could (and that was mostly Phatt's doing), but this game isn't really meant to be balanced. It's a sandbox. That's okay, though, I think. It's meant to be that way, and it's really fun that way. All in all, this was a very fun game to GM, and I hope you all enjoyed it. I have no plans to rerun it again, but it was fun while it lasted. Thank you guys for being so great, and I'll see you in the next game! A battered and bloodied man stood outside the village where until recently, Twinborn had lived together in harmony. Now it was collapsing slowly, buildings torn to shreds by metal ripping through them or collapsing due to the absence of supports. The epicenter of the ruin was a massive whirlwind of metal objects, swirling around and coalescing in the center into an enormous ball of metal. As Tilion watched, a bright light began to shine from the middle of the mess, and rose above all of the swirling metal. He couldn't make out what it was, exactly, but he guessed it had something to do with ArSel. The glowing ball of light brightened into almost a second sun, then faded slowly. The metal stopped spinning, and the buildings had all collapsed. All that was left was ruin and destruction. Tilion watched it all. Then, when day was drawing on into dusk, he turned and walked away. He didn't know where he was going, or what he'd do when he got there. But then, Laurelin hadn't known, either. And he'd killed her, accident though it may have been. The least he could do was try to make her death worthwhile.
