After a few turns of rollover, we've determined that it is possible for us to shorten the rollover period to 6 hours. I'm perfectly happy to do to this cycle, and will do so unless a number of people particularly disagree. Cycle would now end at 6 p.m. MDT / 1 a.m. BST / australians calculate your own time. The new end will be: Also, clarification: writeups will not include clues to elevations. They will include clarifications for other things - sabotages, for instance, and kills. (I forgot to clarify, actually. DA was killed by Mercenaries, in case that was unclear. His writeup will be posted sometime today)

LG33: Term 2, Month 2 - Studying and Power Glavion was in the library, as he always was, working and studying. Always wanting more knowledge, more time to study. That was the most important thing in his life, after all. Studying and learning. He had found another report on the Skindancers. This one was a bit more useful than the last. He hadn’t gone out into the world to share its contents yet, but perhaps once he needed food again he’d go and share a few potential signs for Skindancers with those he thought he could trust. He strolled through the Archives, a long arm deftly picking out books from this side or that, stacking them into his arms until he had a big enough pile to leave them on the floor to pick up later when he finished his stroll. He had wandered further than usual today, and wasn’t in fact sure what area he was in, except that the books on either side of him were either travelogues on distant lands or books covering obscure fruits. Then he saw something different. A high-level book on Naming? That was news… He didn’t think he’d entered the banned books section, but not every banned book was there? But think how useful it could be, how much he would learn. He set down his current stack of books and reached up for that one, opening it. His eyes skimmed the contents of a random page somewhere in the middle. Glavion’s eyes rolled up in his head until they only showed white. Slowly, he collapsed to the ground, book still in his hand, mercifully closed for the sake of those Archive students who found him. He did not speak again. William Opuscule knew what he wanted, when he came to the University. Mastery. Power. That was the meaning of life, he thought, while listening to the Chancellor’s speech. To be able to control the world around him. Change the world how he felt like changing it. He threw himself into his studies ferociously, made key friends, was doing everything right. Ignoring Naming and the other arcane arts beyond the bare minimum, of course. They made no sense, and were likely just tricks to dissuade new students. But the others… He even tried approaching Chancellor Varda once, though she was not particularly pleased with the interruption to her work. He was almost there. So close to being elevated, one more step on his way to Mastery. “Isn’t it a pity you’ll never be able to achieve those dreams,” a voice said as he studied in his room, daydreaming about power. He started. “What? Who’s there? And how did you-” he stopped himself, as a mocking laugh filled the room. “How could you have wanted power? How could you want anything? You don’t understand this University at all. Thinking Sympathy is a trick?” The sympathy lamp in his room went out, shadows in the corners fading into complete darkness, silence within silence and no sound of footsteps even as the voice from everywhere increased in volume. “You’re insane, William. Just like the poor students in the Crockery. You, having power? You don’t have anything. Nothing but a few empty dreams and your mind.” He felt… something, and then it faded in an instant with his dreams of power. “And now, you don’t even have that much.” Sloan entered the room gracefully, examining the long, crescent-shaped table in front of her. She’d never been on the Horns before, and it was certainly new. “Sloan, Student of the University,” she was announced to the Chancellor and the Masters. She walked up to stand in the assigned spot, smiling. It was either that or tremble so much she couldn’t do anything, after all, so she treated this like any performance. Smile, and keep dancing, and no one will ever know you’re wrong. “You have been charged with gathering other students together into an unsanctioned society and creating a ‘flash mob’ in the center of the University. Do you deny these accusations?” “No, Chancellor,” Sloan said softly. “I do not.” “May I ask why you would do such a thing?” Varda asked in exasperation. “Why not, Chancellor? It entertains them, and they enjoyed it.” “It also pulled them away from their studies and disrupted life here, and is unfitting for the students of the greatest center of learning in the world.” Varda stopped her protest. “You are hereby charged with Undignified Mischief, and must publicly apologise for your actions before the school.” “...yes, Chancellor.” Sloan curtseyed carefully, for exactly the proper time, and left the room. “E’lir Locke Alveron.” He entered confidently and nodded to the Chancellor and the Masters, just deeply enough to be properly deferential. “You have been charged with causing distress to your fellow students and attempting to convince them of your own apparently bizarre beliefs.” “Yes, Chancellor,” he responded. “I had no intention to cause distress, of course, but is not the purpose of the University to develop our own beliefs through learning in each field and to spread them as befits a center of learning?” “True…” Varda said slowly. “What beliefs, specifically, were you spreading?” “Nothing terribly ‘bizarre’, as you so kindly put it. Merely that we students are the future of this University and of the world, are we not? And so we need to work towards our future however we can, to become the best generation under the best leaders of our time.” “A remarkably reasonable ideal, given what I’d heard.” “Blatant lies, to tarnish my reputation and try to defame me,” Locke dismissed. Varda smiled. Locke had dangerous qualities, perhaps, but if he was promoting the University and studying, perhaps he was worth keeping around for the moment. “Very well. You may go, Re’lar Locke.” A raised eyebrow was his only show of surprised. He inclined his head again, a bit more deeply, and exited as confidently as he’d entered. “E’lir Dele Fajro and Student Esuan.” “Dele, again?” Varda said. “It’s barely been a month!” Dele looked down sheepishly. “Sorry, Chancellor…” “Very well. You are both charged with…” Varda examined the paper in front of her more closely. “Creating a great array of… some sort of device, which you then lit on fire in order to…” “Create pretty patterns, Chancellor!” Dele interjected. “See, we made a great wheel out of wood and metal and some other interesting things and set it up so it’d make a giant circle of flames shooting upwards, and then we put it out in the middle of the square and lit it from a safe distance with Sympathy and boom!” “A leaf then blew through it, caught on fire, and hit another student.” “Well, yes, we didn’t think of that. But still. It was so cool! Varda looked at her for a long moment. “You are both charged with Reckless Use of Sympathy, and will receive ten lashes at noon, tomorrow.” “But-” “No.” There is a meaning of life, Balthazar Myrrh mused as he stared across the river, leaning on the light rail that separated him from a watery death - or, at least, a rather cold bath. “The meaning, of course, is to exist,” he said aloud to himself. It wasn’t exactly like anyone was listening, and he didn’t particularly care about madness at this point. “The most valuable thing in the world is existence, because without it we would have nothing else. The meaning of life is simply to exist, to go on about our lives not considering this and just living. The steps on the way to work or school, the scratching of our pen creating words which will outlive our existence, every little imprint we make to shape the world. Those are the meaning.” “Maybe,” a voice drawled behind him. “Or maybe it’s just death.” Balthazar froze and turned. “I don’t think so,” he replied as politely as he could. “What gain is caused by dying? Existence benefits the world, pushes it forward, advances it. Existing leaves the world different than it was when you entered. What does dying do?” He looked at the mercenary across from him, a stocky woman wearing a club. “But think about what they all have in common,” she argued. “Everyone dies.” “That doesn’t make it the meaning,” he noted. “Why not? It makes sense, doesn’t it?” She took out her club. “And who are you to be arguing with me, anyway? Just a little street rat?” “Um… no, I’m a student! A student of the University!” Balthazar said, desperately. He’d only been a student there for one term, but hopefully that would be enough… “Dressed like that?” the mercenary sneered. “Let me prove to you how the meaning of life is death.” He dodged her blow, but she wasn’t aiming for him. She knocked out a few feet of the rail behind him, the one protecting him from the river. He tried to run, but her second blow knocked him backwards, perfectly through the hole and down, and down, and down… He fell and sank like a stone, the encrusted mud from his clothing rising up around him and blinding him, so he couldn’t even open his eyes for a last glimpse of sunlight. He held his breath as long as he could, but the current was strong and he couldn’t surface. Eventually, he had to breathe, and seal the doom and the end of his existence, forever. Blackness. Paranoid King and Haelbarde went insane! Wilson was brought on the Horns and charged with Undignified Mischief! LG33: Term 2, Month 1 - Knowledge The Mage knew. He’d been reading, and reading, and reading, trawling through the Archives, asking the Masters about Skindancers. Knowledge was the meaning of life, after all. To know, to be aware of the world in ways that others were not, to know more. That was power. He knew. And so, of course, he had to be silenced. Blue eyes bulged over a throat gasping for air, squeezed by a single inhumanly strong hand. The other hand injected a serum into the Mage’s temple. By the time it had finished its effect, the Skindancer was gone, the room was silent, and the Mage had forgotten the meaning of life. Balthazar Myrrh stood before the Horns. “I have to leave,” he said clearly and calmly. “I’m sorry, Chancellor. I can’t continue attending University.” The Chancellor frowned. “This is not usual practice, but you have extenuating circumstances. Very well. You may go.” Balthazar nodded gratefully. “And may the gods bless you,” Varda added quietly as he went. Noremac Quwester stood before the Horns for the second time in a term. Getting to be a bit much, isn’t it? he thought to himself, then snapped back to the present. “Uh, I don’t know, Chancellor Varda. It was a pear this time, I think? It was ahrd to tell, being on fire and all.” Varda didn’t try to hide her sigh. “Thank you, student. You may go.” Dele Fajro blinked. “The pear? Oh, I thought it wouldn’t hurt anyone, and there have been so many bananas going around recently. I thought a different fruit would be more interesting!” “What is ‘interesting’ is of less concern to me than what is safe for other students, miss Fajro,” Varda said, looking down sternly at the girl. “You are henceforth charged with Reckless Use of Sympathy and will be lashed at noon tomorrow.” “Okay, miss Chancellor!” Dele said, and skipped out of the room. Varda wasn’t entirely sure whether she even knew what lashing meant… Magestar went insane! Hemalurgic Headshot and Darkness Ascendant were brought on the Horns, but both charges were dropped! Burnt Spaghetti was brought on the Horns and charged with Reckless Use of Sympathy! Queensteph, Paranoid King, Burnt Spaghetti, Orlok Tsubodai, Alvron, Cluny the Scourge, Eolhondras, Stink, and Sart were elevated! Each has 5 DP. (Making 45 DP, by the way, not 40.) That is applicable to you, as well. And this is one inflation that isn't averaged - if you're brought on the horns either turn, you get a 2 talent increase, not 1 Talent. I should note that that's not long enough to give a reduction for RP. "High quality" means three paragraphs of three lines each or the equivalent - nine lines, or roughly 200 words.

...I would plead that I'm tired? >> Apologies for that.

Incorrect, as Randuir clarified. The rules are somewhat unclear - it's probably from an older variation on them. The Golden Pony subtracts 1 DP, before the Masters get the chance to lay out their DP. Please don't copy-paste anything directly from your GM PM. It's fine in this case, but as a general practice it's not okay. Please don't forget to submit lodging orders. A lot of people haven't yet. Many will die if they don't. Though, hey, I don't have a problem with that...
-
If you are a master and go insane, you will no longer be a master, and someone else will be elevated (if any El'the has 15 EP in that field). If you escape, you can no longer be a Master - the highest you can be is an El'the. Both turns. EDIT: Also, after some reexamination, EP from the current turn shouldn't count. So you would have 5 EP left, in Randuir's scenario.
-
Hael is correct. An elevation in any field bumps you up to the same tier. You can't be a Re'lar in Alchemy and an El'the in Arithmetic - you are an El'the, period. I believe that the EP for this turn does count. So you'd have 2 left. I'll have to check, but I think that's how the spreadsheet calculates it. Noted. Yes. Because you're going to Imre next turn, not this. You're just saying that you want to go there this cycle.

LG33: Term 1, Month 2 - Nothing Ryth sat, alone, in the room at his inn, thinking about the Chancellor’s speech again. It had been weeks, but he thought about it a lot still. The meaning of life… There had to be a meaning. So why couldn’t Ryth find it? He was bright, a student of the University, with access to the greatest collection of books in the world. Every ancient philosopher was there. But their answers… nothing made sense, nothing was applicable. Friendship, love, happiness, were foreign concepts. Existing for its own sake held no appeal. What value, therefore, was there in life? None. So, when the Skindancers found him, he was easy to crack. All it took was a few words, and he was even willing to go insane. After all, he didn’t have to think about the meaning of life anymore. Insanity was far easier to bear. Noremac stood before the Horns, looking distractedly at Chancellor Varda. “I don’t know, Chancellor? I was just walking along when suddenly the banana caught flame and my cloak nearly caught fire too and… you know the rest.” The Chancellor nodded and sighed. “You may go. Thank you.” As he left, she said, “Bring in Queensteph and Stick together. No point in giving them the same punishment separately.” The two came in sheepishly and waited for judgement. “You two have been rather unwise,” Varda commented, frowning in exasperation at them. They hadn’t technically broken the rules, but they’d been fair idiots in not doing so. “You are heretofore charged with Reckless Use of Sympathy, and are to receive ten lashes at noon tomorrow. We represent the height of learning, here. Students must be dignified and respectful of their peers, and careful with the arts they have learned. You were not.” “But-” Queensteph began. “Our decision is final. You are lucky that it is not more.” “Yes, Chancellor,” they said in unison, then looked at each other and burst out laughing. Varda sighed. Kids these days. Silverblade has gone insane! Hemalurgic Headshot was brought on the Horns, but charges were dropped! Queensteph and Stick were both brought on the Horns and charged with Reckless Use of Sympathy! Term 1, Month 2 has begun. You have 36 hours to send in all actions (sabotages, Imre, lodging, impressing). Player List 1. Queensteph - Vintish Noblewoman 2. Randuir (Telar Pike) - Yllish Commoner 3. Also! I forgot to mention it in the post above. Impressing a Master does not mean being elevated. It just means putting EP into a field. Yes. Sorry. Should've been clearer.
-
Oh, I'm not saying it's impossible. Just hard. The lowest anyone ever got last game was 2.6, which was actually me, C1. I didn't try for talent pipes or complain (which is odd, though makes sense given my past self), and only RPed 10 times (which was a lot). So it's totally possible. Just difficult enough that no one's managed thus far. I believe that if you have EP in the field and are choosing the action, it costs EP as it usually would. If you're picking a random field in which you don't have EP, then it doesn't cost anything but the action slots. It reduces 1 DP from your total, yes. Before the Masters add DP. Given that each vote is only .5 DP, you can actually have two votes before you're considered. No. Wilson is correct. (You can usually assume she is. She made this game.) And I am correct. If you look at several fields - take Alchemy, for instance. You'll see that each item can be made by only a certain tier. So, Plum Bobs can only be made by Re'lars. At the same time, there are first level through master level upgrades for each ability. These level upgrades are not E'lir-Re'lar-etc, but how many times you have been elevated in that field. So if you're elevated twice in Linguistics and then once in Alchemy, you can make Bone Tar but you only have the first level upgrade for it. But if you're upgraded in Alchemy 3 times, you can make bone-tar with the third level upgrade. Does that make sense?

Correct. No. Minimum tuition is 0. (Not sure if anyone actually got down to that last game, though. If anyone does, I will be very impressed.)
-
No. Definitely not.
-
Something I forgot to mention: If a PM is completely OOG, put it in blue text and it will not count towards your PM:Post ratio. Only if it is completely OOG, though. Anything in game will cause it to count. It is much better now. Check again. It was fixed significantly before your post.
-
You don't have to care about lodging until next month, when you're putting it in for Term 2. This month, it was essentially paid before the game started. Your GM PM should include how much you started with. That is after lodging is taken out.

So, for multi-shot reductions, no, it does not apply. You get 5 jots per RP post. Total. No averaging involved. Posting once in thread is per turn and averaged. .5 talents for each turn you post.
-
So, this was different last game because of the way the spreadsheet was set up. It is now that essentially half the reduction/inflation applies per turn. So, for instance, for PMs: if you have 80% PMs in turn 1 and 50% in turn 2, in the last game you would've had an average of 65% and been fine for the whole term. Now, you get half a talent added for the first turn and nothing for the second. Does that make sense?

LG33: Term 1, Month 1 - What is the Meaning of Life? Chancellor Varda stood above the empty skin of what had once been Master Namer Droughtbringer, now a gruesome husk. This hadn’t been something to do with his Naming. He had been ridiculous, but not quite this idiotic. This was something far worse. “It’s coming again,” she murmured to herself. That night, the Chancellor addressed the assembled students. “What is the meaning of life?” she began. “It’s an age-old question, and one without any simple answer. But it’s the question I wish to pose, over the next few months. We are the University, the greatest center of learning in the modern world! Can we not solve this question, at long last? There is an answer. Perhaps many. Each of you, during the upcoming terms, will consider it, until you have found an answer to your satisfaction. Consider the great philosophers, the opinions of your grandmothers, the voice of a beggar across the street. Find your answer. What is the meaning of life?” “I ask this, because it has become relevant lately. You will need that answer, many of you. Death is coming. “Master Drought died last night, to a Skindancer attack.” She raised a hand to forestall murmurings. “No, they’re not fairy tales or children’s stories. Yes, they’re real, and yes, they’re here. Until they are exterminated, the coming months will be hard. “You cannot trust your friends, because anyone could be a Skindancer. But we are the University, are we not? The center of learning in the modern world? Arm yourselves, my students. Advance in the ranks. Find the Skindancers among you and wipe them out, until we remain, purer for the battle we have won!” She paused, then continued quietly, “And consider, as you do, the meaning of life, in the case that you are one felled by the fighting.” Magestar stood before the Horns, a large crescent-shaped table with the nine - currently eight - Masters sitting at it, all looking down upon him. He shivered a little, but did not let that deter him from his protest. “It was only a joke! I said ‘hey, in that case I’m probably a Skindancer, sure’, but only in reference to the fact that a friend called me ever-changing! It was a natural response. You can’t discipline me for it!” Chancellor Varda frowned down at him. “A joke in poor taste, then. Very well, student. You may go. Be more careful in the future.” Magestar was brought on the Horns, but all charges were dropped! Droughtbringer has been found dead, killed by the Skindancers! Long Game 33 has begun! You have 36 hours to send in any and all actions (sabotages, elevation points, going to Imre) and decide who should be brought on the Horns. Important Note: Please label all PMs “Term 1, Cycle 1” or “1.1” for this cycle, and continue doing so throughout the game for each respective cycle. That will make the GMs’ lives much easier for counting. Also, more clarifications were put into the writeup. Check there before you ask your friendly GMs, please. Player List 1.
