  1. I agree with this. However, there is also the possibility that he will never break free of his oathstone in that way. He could be freed, somehow, and feel that he is absolved of his crimes. He could die. He might even never break free. I was thinking about this, and I thought this might be a curse from Nightwatcher, with the Windrunner powers his boon. We might be able to see where his character is going better after Words of Radiance, but we don't have enough to go off of right now.
  2. I will avenge those who cannot be saved. I will listen to those whose voices have been unheard/forgotten. -Elsecallers I will repair that which has been broken. I will speak the truth to those who will listen. I will comfort those who are grieving/sorrowing. I will see those who are invisible. I will see the goodness in those who are deemed evil. I will find the truth in the world of lies. Just some ideas.
  3. Have to get up at 5 for a plane that leaves at 9:30. Not fun.

  4. I am very excited to see Shallan, though I would prefer Szeth. As someone else said, information is key. I have a feeling Szeth will have the greatest importance for a while, though Dalinar's vist to Nightwatcher might be useful too.
  5. That would be great. Sorry for making you do even more work than the wonderful stuff you already do.
  6. Great! Now I have to decide if I want to change it again (twice in the space of a day) or keep mine, which is awesome too. Decisions...
  7. Still improbable, but it would be awesome.
  8. This has provoked some interesting thoughts for me. To expand upon what this would indicate Szeth did... This is what I think you're saying. Perhaps he became Truthless because he went to Nightwatcher for a boon (big nono in Shinovar for whatever reason) and his boon is Windrunner powers, but his curse is to obey any who have the Oathstone absolutely. He has no choice. The thing about Cultivation giving him an honorblade as the only way to grant him those powers works really well with this, if Cultivation=Nightwatcher (very possible).
  9. That does indeed make more sense. In fact, that's very plausible. The part about the Recreance is similar to some of the ideas we've had before for the cause of the Recreance, I think, but that is a bit different. Very logical.
  10. Interesting theory. I would say it's plausible, as Kaladin spent time in the storms and is obviously on his way to becoming a Radiant. (WoR spoilers) However, do remember that Shallan is a Surgebinder, too, with a spren, and she hasn't been exposed to highstorms that I can remember. Jasnah shows no evidence of exposure either (though it's certainly possible in her case). If Shallan does spend time in a highstorm in the next book or so, I'd be more willing to believe this. As it is, we only have one case and one quote to go off of.
  11. I think the glyph is a lot clearer. I like it a lot, especially the Windrunner one because it has that edge of blue in the engraving. The red one looks more like white stuff is sticking out, but maybe that's just me.
  12. You are correct. It is Vega. That shift is about 14,000 years, though, if I remember correctly.EDIT: I'm sorry. Apparently the cycle is more like 25,770 years. It's kind of complicated, though.
  13. That would certainly be interesting. But is the fabrial created by modern antifabrians? I would say probably, as Adolin crushed it, but maybe Shardblades can regenerate their parts too. That would explain why they can't be destroyed. I mean, I know the blade is unbreadkable and all, but otherwise I would think there would be some way to melt it down or take it apart. On the main topic, I think that we would know by now if it wasn't truly loaned. Otherwise, I would say that it is possible: I know Dalinar's a man of his word and all, but it's conceivable that he could have forgotten to fully seer the bond. Not probable, though.
  14. That is brilliant. A shard of Pragmatism could be terrifying, though...Note that according to the WoR excerpts: So it's unlikely we'll be seeing many more Windrunners for a while, unless spren aren't tied to order at all.
  15. Personally, I think it looks pretty good. I was picturing the symbol just kind of engraved on the gem, in white maybe. That looks much more awesome. Maybe you could make the symbol all one color? It seems a little disjointed with both the black and the blue. A less complicated sapphire might be easier to begin with, though. I don't know, because I have very little experience with this sort of thing. Whatever you decide will be wonderful, I'm sure. EDIT: I just noticed that this post isn't really very helpful at all. Feel free to ignore it.
  16. I'm having a lot of trouble with this. When I was obsessed with Lord of the Rings, my sister grew to hate it. In fact, she still hates it. So I kept very quiet about my obsession with Sanderson. It paid off: she started reading the Alcatraz series before me and finds it hilarious. She's reading bok 2 now, which means I can't read it, but if she starts reading the other ones, it is worth it.
  17. I stuck the Mare question on the Ultimate List thread (which needs to be updated badly...)
  18. That is hilarious!! How about when Kaladin is offered a Shardblade and refuses it again? I only saw that little bit, so I'm not sure, but I think he got it from dueling Amaram. I'm guessing that Kaladin gives it to Teft or Rock.
  19. That would be interesting, but they don't know about Hemalurgy at all, with the possible exception of the little book Marsh just gave to Marasi. There could conceivably be another book about it somewhere, but I think it's improbable.
  20. I'm reading Game of Thrones while I wait for my sister to finish Alcatraz and the Scrivener's Bones. My aunt sent me all five for my birthday in an email. (I'm a very fast reader, and my sister is a very slow reader. We'll see how many of the Song of Ice and Fire books I get through before she gives Alcatraz to me).
  21. Welcome to the 17th Shard! I agree with practically everything above. I've felt that it was the setting that pulls me in, and the plot that finishes with me in awe. Which of the books have you read (apart from Wheel of Time, obviously)?
  22. Welcome to the 17th Shard! I hope you have fun here.
  23. I'm another readerspren...Or maybe a nerdspren.
