[Theory] The Stormfather is Tanavast's Cognitive Shadow
PorridgeBrick replied to WeiryWriter's topic in Stormlight Archive
The difference is too slight to make a difference anyway, since this is Brandon thinking on his feet when asked a difficult question. -
Okay, so just taking a look at the Top Reputation list.... • 828 is still Seer. Don't know if that's the boundary or not. • 1177 is still Returned. Again, probably not the boundary.

That is true. Spikes aren't really sentient splinters like Spren, Seons/Skaze, and Nightblood are, so I guess you wouldn't really 'bond' with them. Enough Spikes, however, could have big enough physiological changes to basically be considered a new form. What happens if a Stormform is given four Iron spikes? The four spikes should kolossify them, but how does that interact with the changes given by the other forms?

Google Hangout w/ Brian McClellan & Brandon Sanderson

Since Shard have Shardpools, did Adonalsium have an Adonpool? Could a Splinter have a Splinterpool? Are there other galaxies with their own Adonalsiums, Shards, splinters, magic systems, etc? And this one is for Mclellan. When new technology is eventually discovered, will new magics be discovered to fit them as happened with the Powder Mages? Could there be Quantum Wizards, Electronic Mages, Rubbermancers, etc? -
Maybe. Hemalurgy is very flexible, and it's not like we know exactly what mechanism allows the forms to happen.DestroyEvilform. If Nightblood is basically a DestroyEvilspren attached to a sword, and Parshendi can bond spren...

So four Iron spikes as opposed to the whatever Parshquisitors have? I don't know if Lerasium supply the needed Investiture, though. All it does is change some SDNA, whereas both Spikes and Spren are Invested things grafted onto the Spiritweb. Also, how would you... go about actually making this birdform? O.o Do you eat the bird or something? I don't think so. For example, if a Parshendi bonded to a KR spren, I think they would just get that spren's surges, not all ten. So a Parshendi should just get whatever benefits the Spike carries, along with their sentience. Kandra's spikes work the same way– they just get the same attributes that are in the Spikes + sentience.

So, we were talking about this in the WalDo thread, and we decided to bring it over to another thread. We know, per WoB, that it's possible to give listeners their sentience through Hemalurgic spikes, just like Kandra. Given this, what other weird forms could be made? If seons are relatively equivalent to spren, could a Parshman bond with an Aon Tia and have a Teleportationform? Be given a Divine Breath, and become Glowyform? The possibilities are endless. Thoughts?

The funny thing is, we've already talked to Brandon about Parshquisitors. -

Here's a WoB for you all.

Hah, I can respect that. You did well. *nods back* I hope you enjoy seeing your friends join you. Don't worry: I'm sure Jeo has a rabbit ready for you, so... happy hopping?

Kind of desperate, here. If Aodan really was trying to kill Hallendrens, it wouldn't matter too much: we outnumber them anyway. And doing so so obviously would be stupid: he'd instantly lose all the trust he's gotten. So the situation you talk about won't come into play, because when this day ends you will be proven a Pahn Kahl. He has nothing to gain by attacking an innocent. In any case, it's obvious what you're doing here. You want us Hallendrens and Idrians to tear each other apart for 1st place and forget about the possibility of losing entirely. Jeo was doing it too, insisting on lynching Hallendrens to stop us from working together. You're doing the same from the Hallendren side. I wager that by just looking for the people who've been most aggressive against the other nationality, we'll find a good portion of the Pahn Kahl.

Hmm. "Gifted" is cliché, as is "Chosen". "Entitled" sounds weird. That's all I can think of right now.

When this somehow reminds you of the wild chalkling attacks in the Rithmatist, and you spend a while pondering if you could Awaken Chalklings. -
Maybe. It kinda jarred me when I was reading it through, and it could certainly do the same for others.

"My ability was odd, compared to many of the privileged." Is this an intentional reference to the Powder Mage trilogy?

What about "Is Iyatil Spiked?" -
Boromir: One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its black gates are guarded by more than just orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep. The great eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire, ash, and dust. The very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand men could you do this. It is folly. Alethi: You call Mordor a wasteland? Dude, have you even seen Roshar? (Yea, that's definitely how it would go. Including the Alethi Highprinces saying "Dude".)

Except the investiture you get from Allomancy comes typed, molded to a specific purpose. For example, a Mistborn can't burn Iron to fuel a Steelpush. I'm sure Nicrosilminds would work for fueling Surgebinding, but none of the other known metals should (except for possibly Atium and Lerasium, depending on what their as-yet-unseen secondary uses are). The Mists themselves should work, but they seem similar enough to Stormlight that I don't think there would be much difference in its use for Surgebinding.
-
But making the dead walk or a scarf grab seems like it should consume Investiture as well. The fact that it doesn't is rather strange. I think that if the magic used was small enough relative to the amount of Breath used, like a Lashed rock or something, then the Breath wouldn't be consumed anymore than Awakening does. But something bigger would, just like how Nightblood soaks up Breath like a sponge when he's in full destruction mode. It could make for some very interesting uses. Where did you get this from, exactly? I would think Breath is Breath, even on Roshar.

Heck yeah. Two down in one cycle. さよなら, Elo.

Wild nightblood theory (warbreaker spoilers)
PorridgeBrick replied to garlick's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think your timeline is off. Vasher and Shashara made Nightblood before/during the Manywar. Shashara used Nightblood during one of the battles and slaughtered everyone, so Vasher killed her to stop it from ever happening again. Then he did the whole Peacegiver gig and stopped the war.- 4 replies
