  1. We don't know that, actually. It's just a popular theory here.
  2. But we basically know that they can, because Shallan is able to give Kaladin her blade, and it does not disappear when he drops it. If you can drop it, then you can surely throw it– the only difference is prior momentum.
  3. Gloombringer, as Shallan would say it.
  4. I don't remember that at all, actually. I just remember that it worked with pretty much any powder. There wasn't any fuel aspect that I can recall.
  5. Having seen the movies (Rifftraxed, of course– no way I'd watch it on its own), believe me: you can't do anything worse to it than it did to itself already. Your conscience will be clean no matter what you say.
  6. I think with Command Breaking, you're also dealing with overpowering the Command itself, not just the Investiture. So a stronger and more clearly visualized Command is pretty difficult to break. And the one-breath Command must be a pretty strong one, since the best Commands are the ones requiring the least Breath. Iirc, that's why Vasher's squirrel is so hard to break– he's so experienced an Awakener that his Commands are much more powerful than normal.
  7. I don't believe he's ever confirmed that exactly. He's more said that each book will be themed about one of the orders. It could be that each main character will be from that order, but he's never outright said that.Edit: Oh, and Maxal, the only confirmed MCs for the second half of Stormlight are Jasnah, Renarin, Lift and Taln. Mr. T is a pretty unlikely candidate for that last spot. Brandon has talked a little in the past about another Herald being one of the last five, but it's unknown if that's still happening. If it is, then that last Herald would pretty much have to be Chach.
  8. Having read White Sands, I really don't get what you're going for there. Aether of Night, on the other hand, is a big support, but to get that connection you don't have to have even read it. You just need to know that Liar has Aethers in it from the sample chapters, and that AoN obviously has Aethers in it too from the title.
  9. Like Nightblood 2.0, a literal Awakened cannon that will be the main weapon of Yesteel in Warbreaker's sequel.
  10. But for them all to add up to 30, the last would have to be ten too. So the Honor=10 connection doesn't work unless all three magics come from him, and that would contradict the theory.
  11. No one, ah, actually made a theory post for that. But there was a thread in Cosmere Discussions we hijacked... I'll go look. Edit: Can't find it, so I'll just give you the rundown. The theory states that Shards with compatible intents will mix and form a single, shared magic system together, while incompatible ones will form two pure systems, one for each, plus a balance magic. It comes from how Devotion and Dominion, who go together very well, have a single region-locked system, while Ruin and Preservation follow the latter trend. The theory then predicts that, based upon this, Roshar will have three magics: H+C for Surgebinding, O+C for Voidbinding, and all three for the third (since Odium and Honor are incompatible, while Cultivation is compatible with both). And this has good evidence: Surgebinding has spren from both Honor and Cultivation, and the Ideals are pretty Cultivation-y. Voidbinding's chart has Cultivation featuring prominently on it, and we know the third system involves fabrials, which seem pretty neutral. There was more I think, but I forgot by now. Now if your theory is true, then Stormlight, the power source of Surgebinding, would happen to have the same Shardic composition as their magic system, which would be very powerful evidence.
  12. I'd give that to Edgedancers. At least Truthwatcher's have lasers and invisibility. Edgedancer just slide around. But your last sentence applies to them too, so the point doesn't matter too much.
  13. I don't think Odium is in Stormlight, since I suspect that that is in the voidlight in Szeth's sphere. But I like the idea of Cultivation in there, especially since it goes perfectly with the Intent-meshing Theory Moogle and I came up with.
  14. That would be hilarious, since he only just learned about what a RAFO is when he was answering questions in an AMA. And I think he'll at least answer #1, since it doesn't sound too spoilery. For Pole's magic, do you have to use dolls? Could you draw someone quickly during a fight and use that?
  15. Mistborn can only push in a straight line from their center of mass, so if it goes off course they can't correct it. They can only do that in they planned for a trajectory that would still hit despite a redirection. But the thing is, atium doesn't predict reactions to your reactions. That's how Vin beat Zane. If a Mistborn throws some wild trajectory, the Windrunner can react and redirect that. And as for the physics of it: to redirect a coin takes energy. If the energy is too little, as in a weak Reverse Lashing, the redirection won't be that much. For a slingshot, you'd need a big reversal in the coin's momentum, which means the Reverse Lashing would have to put a ton of energy into redirecting that coin. You only need to redirect it a little: why would the Windrunner waste that much?
  16. Do Honorblades work like savants in Mistborn, where greater use allows greater power?
  17. Oh, sorry, I read your slingshotting coins bit wrong. However, remember that wherever the Radiant lashes the coins to will likely be fairly far off the path between him/her and the Mistborn. The slingshot will only be able to slightly redirect, since no one's going to waste more Stormlight than they need to and a slingshot affect needs a lot of gravitational power. And if the spot they're lashed to is farther away than the Windrunner is, there's no hope of a slingshot, since a total reversal would take even more gravitational power.
  18. Indeed, that is very likely, especially since we know Adonalsium was on Roshar on some point, and created the first spren there. The name Ancient Ones helps too.
  19. Szeth isn't a Windrunner. We've seen visions of Radiants in the past wearing Plate and functioning just fine. And I don't think they'll run out of Stormlight anytime sooner than the Mistborn will run out of the extremely fast-burning atium, especially since each ideal seems to grant better Stormlight use and it's a very popular theory here that Plate is an artificial Stormlight battery. And it shouldn't be too hard to just Lash themselves higher than Mistborn can reach, hover without using much Stormlight, and drop/Lash spheres at the Mistborn so they run out of atium. Sure, you can beat stormlight healing. But that is very hard when Windrunners wear plate, can move incredibly fast (likely faster than a Steelpush), and can redirect your coins. For reverse lashings, that wouldn't work. A Windrunner will just react to it flying for them and redirect it, and the Mistborn can only pull it back to themselves and try again since Steelpushes can only push from their center of mass. And Lashings should beat pushes unless they're a Duralumin push. The reason Feruchemists can beat Mistborn is that they can change their weight around and resist pushes. Manipulate gravity directly, and you've got that on steroids.
  20. @Moogle: I think I saw a WoB recently that might interest you. It remarked that charging a Hemalurgic Spike and infusing a gem are realmatically the exact same thing. I can't seem to find it, however. Anyone else know where it is?
  21. Upvotes for that title alone. As for the guided bit, I think Sprenblades require constant physical contact to move and change. And for why nobody uses projectile weapons, I'm not quite sure.
  22. No ranged abilities? Just lash things at them. Coins? Reverse lash them away. Even if they connect, I don't expect them to oneshot plate without Duralumin, and there is always Stormlight healing. And through the combination of Basic Lashings, and a artificial vacuum, Windrunners should be able to fly any speed they want. They might be able to dodge those coins. Plus, higher endurance? What happened to Stormlight and Shardplate?Edit:P4th is right. Mistborn seriously have no chance at playing keepaway, because Windrunners are way too damnation fast. And an intriguing possibility I thought of. It's easier to Reverse Lash objects in the air, right? With enough Stormlight (say, if you had Plate serving as a battery) could you Reverse Lash a Mistborn just enough that they don't line up with their anchors and splat on the ground?
  23. I'm pretty sure Chasmfiends, Parshendi, etc all predate the arrival of Cultivation, Honor, and humanity. We know that Cultivation and Honor arrived together per WoB. We know that Parshendi are considered the Ancient Ones, and that humanity/earthlike wildlife seems to have migrated from another planet, judging from their mythology, and that Parshendi are very similar to the local wildlife, making them probably native. We know that Parshendi are of neither Cultivation nor Honor nor Odium originally, and since the rest of Roshar's wildlife are similar, they too probably have the same origin. And we know Adonalsium visited Roshar and left some of his power as the original spren, making it very likely that he was the one to create Roshar and all its wildlife.Of course, I could certainly believe that the Chasmfiends have been "adopted", so to speak, by Cultivation, just like Cultivation and Odium did with the Parshendi.
  24. That last sentence is a little spoilery, Cracknut. I'd spoiler that.
  25. I agree that even atium might not be enough. While they will know what's going to happen in the next moment, Mistborn have very dedicated flight paths comparatively, so they don't have as many options to react to their new knowledge with. Depending on how fast their death ray is, Elsecallers may be able to beat atium as well.
