  1. Game of Thrones/Cosmere crossover. Spoilers abound!
  2. *throws up my Welcome to Night Vale live show ticket* Because I just bought a ticket to a Welcome to Night Vale live show. Yeeeeeeess
  3. Hmm. So, I had an idea I thought would be fun; an all female regiment of Knights, riding war unicorns. Thought it would be a fun way to subvert the idea hat unicorns are "girly", and I kind of had an idea for a culture based around antlers and horns as cultural symbols; nature's crowns, so to speak... Turns out, female reindeer are the only kind of deer that cam grow antlers. So now I'm wondering if they'd fit the setting better. Alternatively, since I'm thinking of playing with the idea of competition and factions...Maybe having both as separate regional orders?
  4. This is less a peeve, more a source of anxiety: When I'm the last to post in a topic, or say something, and no one says anything, and my post is just...sitting there. I start thinking "Oh no, I've killed the topic/offended people/they don't say something because they hate me now," and... Yeah. Not fun. And a major reason why, I think, I come across as needy or clingy, or... I dunno? For which I apologise. (and now the worrying begins)
  5. Damnation. I love this thread. You guys have so many great ideas. I hate this thread. You guys have so many great ideas. It's inspiring, and envy inducing, all at the same time. Keep up the good work, please!
  6. So discussion topic for you guys; how much worth or value do you place upon fan fiction as an enterprise? Otherwise one hand, it can be a great way to practice writing, to explore themes an author doesn't, or to try out things they don't.. But is it something that should only ever be viewed as a phase? Should the goal of someone be to eventually create original work and drop fanfiction all together, or is there an artistic merit to be found in it as it's own thing?
  7. ...er... I'm gonna play the ignorance card. What's Network?
  8. I'm planning on waiting for the Defenders mini to start production, then binge watch everything. I'm currently watching Supergirl though. I recorded it during its run, so finally getting down to watching it.
  9. Well, this is pretty behind on things, but ipicked up the first volume of All New Wolverine. Here's the thing, I hate Wolverine. I find him...frustrating, as a character. Of that there isn't anything interesting about him, but it feels like a lot of that stuff is never really usedcto it's full potential. Laura takes a much more traditional superhero approach to things; globe trotting, setpiece action, crossovers with heroes and villains. I wasn't expecting to like it, but... Actually, it fits her pretty well. I never liked Logan being treated like an ordinary superhero, but it works for Laura. It even makes me like the yellow and blue costume. Old Man Loan sounds more like what I want from Logan, grim and gritty, but I haven't heard anything quality wise there. And, anyway, Wolverine was never my favorite; still holding out for a 616 Cyclops series! And, there are some interesting themes bubbling in it. Immortality, nature vs nurture... typical stuff, sure, but the writing is strong enough that I'm invested. So, I might look in the back issue bin at Forbidden Planet, or else trade wait. I dunno yet. I haven't followed X-23 beyond having seen her introduction on X-men Evolution,so anyone got places to start with her?
  10. Clearly, he is the Twi from the genderswap universe who has somehow crossed over to ours. Keep an eye out for mirror universe Twi. Also, writing resources...has anyone read the Race for the Iron Throne blog? It's a chapter by chapter analysis of ASOIAF, but each chapter has a segment documenting historical parallels and stuff. Really fascinating way to learn some medieval history.
  11. So, I picked up Flash #1, and while it was okay, my main concern is that the arc is basically going to rehash the Zoom storyline from season 2 of the show. But, I was speaking to @Edgedancer about it, and...Yeah, that will probably help fans of the show checking out the book get acclimated to things. And all this got me thinking about the upcoming Supergirl book, whose new status quo is ripped straight from the show; defender of National City, working for the DEO. Here's the thing; I understand corporate synergy, particularly for books attracting a show audience. I hate when things in comics get railroaded to tie into them, but... But, a lot of Superman's mythos comes from extra comic materials. Jimmy Olson and Kryptonite both came from radio plays, and the classic ice fortress of solitude was the Donner film. Smallville popularised the idea of Lex and Clark as childhood friends -though that's not an idea I'm in favor of- and Superman Returns pitched the idea of Superdad which the comics are currently exploring. More than that,Supergirl as a character.... well, hasn't been. She's been a pretty pervasive idea since she was introduced, but she's never really seemed to click as anything beyond "girl superman". She's had so many different takes, each trying to make her distinct in her own right, and none of them really worked, or gained popular traction. The New 52 really pushed her as the "alien" of the line, which was a direction I liked...but the book got cancelled, so I imagine that is going to be dropped. There's a joke that Superman only inspires people when he's dead, but I think that that is much more applicable to Kara. Her best moment was decades ago, when she fought the Anti-Monitor and died give the Earths a little more time. (Incidently, that sequance? Best moment of COIE.) So... I'm hoping that borrowing the premise gives her a bit more life this time. But I'm also hoping the book doesn't just rehash the shows cast. People point out that Arrow is basically stealing characters and concepts from Batman...but Supergirl does the same for Superman. Pretty much all of that shop's cast are former Superman characters. So, I don't mind f there is some overlap; an Alex Danvers, or a Cat Grant. But I'm hoping this book will actually develop Kara as an independent character and make a more compelling reason for her existence than nostalgia.
  12. My old friend
  13. Nine-tenths of Green Arrow stories:

Something Something Social Justice Tract, Something Something Boxing Glove Arrow.

  14. Warbreaker. I feel it is one of Brandon's best pieces. It used to seem under-appreciated, back when I joined, though I think that perception has changed since. Why do I like it? It feels like both an interesting riff on classic sword and sorcery as a genre, and on Mistborn. Vivenna, and her arc, is one of my favorites in the cosmere. I liked Nightblood, and Vasher. And I think Warbreaker is Brandon's funniest novel. There is so much absurdity -'Do you want to destroy evil', and Siri's plan, most obviously- but also so much horror; literal horror, psychological horror and existential horror. In short, Warbreaker is Best Cosmere.
  15. I am a little aware that not everyone is comfortable with that kind of sentiments, which is why I didn't respond. But... Yes. Hugs. Thanks, and much appreciated. At least I know that I'll have some days off next week - booked them for my sister's graduation- so...glad to have some time up. Less happy that'd time keeping means I couldn't get the character sheet for my cleric finished, though. I had a 20 in wisdom! That was awesome! Sadly, not meant to be.
  16. I'm mostly reading comic books these days. The latest purchases? The Flash, Green Arrow, Action Comics and Wonder Woman.
  17. Actually, what if we're looking at this dynamic all wrong, and ponies are Equestria's version of the Parhsendi? They appear to be native to their native, and getting your cutie mark could be the equivalent of the Parshendi adopting new forms via spren; it's just that in the case of ponies, cutieform is the only thing they can hack into, and once you do, you can't back out of it. Unless you're Starlight Glimmer, but that's besides the point
  18. I. I didn't know this was a thing. I am so happy that this is a thing. All the bridgerunners are dragons, right? I mena, no one seems to bat an eye at Spike as Twilights slave. Preumsbaly this is where all those other dragon hatchlings and Celestia are up to while Twilight and company are singing friendship songs.
  19. What a week. By which I mean, "For an entitled brat like myself, this week sucked". But damnation, I want to vent. So here I go. First of all, work. I was scheduled to work three days this week (36 hours). And I was fine with that, since it meant I would then be off for seven days, which would have been awesome. I had all sorts of plans, like working on my MLP fanfics, and off-site roleplaying games... Then I got called in for work on Wednesday morning. "Well, okay, six more hours, no big deal..." Then had to cover for someone on Thursday. And Friday. So my "week off" has turned into "60 work hours, and I get Saturday and Sunday off, and then work again. Yay." In the midst of all this, of course, Brexit happened. And I don't want to derail this thread with politics, but the short answer is I feel the decision went the wrong way and, as someone from Northern Ireland, a place which voted to Remain in the EU, the fact we are being forced to pull out with England bothers me. And then, it turns out I've lost my gmail password Which was just the topping I needed. So now I'm trying to scramble and find all my accounts again...
  20. Why does kindle world's have such a small selection of stuff? Let's campaign to get more put up there So I don't feel bad doing fanfiction when I "should" be doing "real" writing
  21. As someone born, raised and living in Northern Ireland, I am...frustrated. I think Britain made the wrong choice; the fact that their choice drags Northern Ireland -who, again, voted in the opposite direction- along with them makes it worse. So...Yes. Damnation.I don't like this decision.
  22. Well, I've finished Legends; now that the UK has finished Supergirl,I'm getting started on that. Funny Arrow season 5 news though.
