  1. I think I remember reading that Ant Man was hinting at the magic side of things, by having him shrink to such microscopic levels like towards the end. So the idea might be that magic is, sort of, like..the deepest, most underlying level of reality? Thor already said that in Asgard, science and magic are considered the same, so...
  2. Cordyceps. I'm just sayin'.
  3. We do now We had a thread for Batman v Superman, but having a more general 'verse thread might be more useful.
  4. Suicide Squad is out in a month, and trailers have been released for Wonder Woman and Justice League; having a thread for DC's burgeoning universe might be overdue at this point. So... Here it is?
  5. God, I hope so. Here's the thing, despite self-promoting myself as the comic authority here, I'm really not. I don't have much more knowledge of Wonder Woman books than most people; I've read scattered runs here and there, but she's never gotten the push she needs from DC. She's held up as an improtant character - the first female superheroine, the third part of the Trinity- but DC... Wonder Woman does not get the same respect from the creator's at Warner Brothers as the other characters do. Granted, no one gets as much respect as Batman; look at how many games and movies he's gotten! And Wonder Woman, with a movie coming out next year, has nothing so far? Yeah, I'm hoping this film raises her profile. In the meantime, I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend her animated movie from a few years ago. It was pretty good, and likely to hit a lot of the same points as this upcoming film. Also, DC announced more animated films for other properties, and I am SO PSYCHED. JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK. JUDAS CONTRACT. Yeesssss....
  6. So... I'm going to go see Star Trek 3(D) in about an hour. Figured it'd be worth opening a topic about it. I am... kind of awful, so far as Star Trek goes. The only ones I've really watched are DS9 and Enterprise. But I have been very much not a fan of the Abramsverse Kelvin timeline so far. I have had... issues with the previous films in the franchise so far. But, spoiler free reviews seem to be rather positive regarding Beyond, so...
  7. I still remain baffled that, between a Batman movie and a Superman film, the one that's gearing up to be the most fun is the Suicide Squad. Yes, it is! So, here's what I was hinting at earlier with "thoughts". I've seen some discussion on Tor about whether or not the poster is sexualising her (seeing as how they've cut her face off). Upon reflection, I think that COULD be a way to look at it, but... But it's not how I read it. I think the important thing is that, for a lot of people, this might be their first exposure to Wonder Woman as a character. As I've mentioend before, at rambley length, there are works where she's featured, but they've been wildly disperate; the calm diplomat of the Lynda Carter show is different from the fish out of water of the Justice League cartoon, is different from the boisterous Bruiser of the Justice League: War movie. More importantly, though, there were a lot of questions about the character in Batman v Superman; in fact, those were THE unanswered questions of the film, by Batman himself. "Who are you? Where did you come from? Where have you been?" Even Diana's eventual answer - that she "left the world" a hundred years ago - is a non answer, and tells us absolutely nothing we didn't already know throughout the course of this film. So, basically, this movie? It could be subtitled "Who is Diana Prince", and I think that's the way they are going with it. Interviews with Gal Gadot seem to suggest the film is a coming of age tale. I think the poster maybe reflects that; they emphasise the accessories of Wonder Woman's character - the costume, of course, but also the sword and the lasso- but the character herself (ie, her face) is still hidden since the audience doesn't know who she is yet, either. So it focuses on the iconic stuff, the things that everyone will recognise, while drawing attention tot he fact that Diana's character ad personality is, currently, something of a mystery that the film will address. ...On the other hand, I might be giving Marketing too much credit. But at least it's not another case of a female character looking over her shoulder at the audience, like the Hawkeye Initative?
  8. Guys. GUYS. There is a colour in the Snyderverse besides GREY. I'm stunned. (Basically, they have released a solo poster for the Wonder Woman movie. I'm stll considering my thoughts on it... but, if nothing else, there is brightness, and colour, and guys, Galo Gadot had minimum screen time in Batman v Superman, but Wonder Woman was awesome and so was her theme music, and I'm kind of excited for this film.)
  9. Well, at least it's comics accurate! Nah, but seriously... I liked Legends well enough. It's certainly a show which, I think, works better on the ction and the spectacle rather than the characterization, which is a shame in a sense; there was a lot of potential. I'm a big fan of both immortality and time travel as concepts, but the Hawk storyline never quite worked out for me, and one of these days I'll finally get around to writing my post as to why... Still overall? It is an enjoyable show. Sara has been fascinating from day one, and I thought Ray was fine, if under-serviced by Arrow; this show let's him do a lot better, even if some abrupt story line changes clearly happened behind the scenes and altered stuff with him. Mick is also, surprisingly, pretty awesome, so there's that. Basically... a flawed first season, and certainly not as strong as Arrow or Flash's inaugural seasons... but there is a lot of potential in the concept, and I'm hoping season two capitalizes on that. (But seriously, the action scenes on that show are pretty awesome.)
  10. According to my co-worker, I am "stroppy" and a "drama queen". Excuse me for taking our job seriously.
  11. Um. So... Random vanilla character idea's that occured to me? Sort of throwing it out for... whatever reasons: - Obviously, the Reckoners verse has a bodycount, right? I mean, not many player characters have died, but we've had a lot of NPC deaths. So, what happens to the bodies? Presumably, someone is getting rid of them, right? So, random idea for a character... a vanilla gravedigger/undertaker, one of those unfortunate dudes who has been saddled with the job of having to bury and dispose of the bodies of the people who have been pandified, beaten, electrocuted, or whatever other horrible death awaits those who anger, annoy, or otherwise fail to amuse their epic overlords. - So, that Vanillain idea I keep batting around? Still sort of considering... and by sort of I mean I was thinking of making it a female character, as a counterpoint to Lyla (I'm sort of worried Lyla, as a fangirl, is too passive a character, so having someone actively engaging in stuff seemed like a good idea). So, I was trying to come up with a name. "She's the Bon Bon to her Lyra, kind of," I said to myself... And now I'm kind of considering a pair of characters named Bonnie and Clyde, who may or may not be crimimnals, escaping from Vegas to exact bloody revenge against epics.
  12. I... should probably start trying to figure out what Lyla's dramatic arc and goals should be, actually. Beyond squee at every epic that she gets within spitting distance of.
  13. Random thought: Batman is all about "me". I (or my social clique, whether that means friends or superheoes) know best, and aside from key exceptions outside that group (work colleague, commisioner Gordon), everyone else is wrong, and you are the only one who can make things right. Superman is about "you", and the idea that other people have their faults, but ultimately are good people. You don't have to do everything yourself, because other people are fundamentally decent, and will do things to help you. (And okay, maybe I just wanted an excuse to post this, because this is great.) Because seriously. Everyone who is reading this thread should go read All-Star Superman. This story makes me cry everytime, and this is why I storming love Superman.
  14. I feel seriously disrespected by work. So, I got my rota the other day. Our bosses are aiming to sort us at 30 hours a week. By the end of August, I will have done 300 hours, and am pulling 10 shifts more than anyone else. Which...bothered me. But last night, I got called in to cover someone who was sick, and got an updated rota, and I'm working even more hours now? 318. You had to let aguy go, and couldn't distribute his hours a bit more evenly? Or you did so in a way that the guy pulling 300+ hours, doing more shifts than anyone else, gets even more? I am storming convinced that those guys view me as a workhorse or a dog at this point. They say "Do this," and I do. I was trying to be reliable and helpful, but...
  15. I have literally just been bothering people about whether or not they wantto play an RPG. This isn't quite what I had in mind, but the point is, you have piqued my attention! As for an order... I think I'd like to give a cleric Edgedancer a try.
  16. That second Charizard has so much edge. Well, I hate to break it to you...
  17. Chikortia is awesome and cute and great and Sorry. Chikorita was my first Silver starter, and an... incident with our trading cable meant I lost it forever. ...But, yeah. Pokemon was a great game on handheld. I don't have Go -and have no itnentions of getting it- but I am sort of temped to start up ed or Blue and go for a Nuzelocke run, if only to collect some pokemon to transfer to Sun/Moon.
  18. No, that is very much not a good thing. You should have gotten this guy instead.
  19. ...see, now all that's done is made me think of that scene from the Dark Knight Rises. via Imgflip Meme Generator
  20. Hmm. I don't think that was it; from how I understood the synopsis, the concept was more about personal identity, not (necessarilly) a love story, if that makes sense? I thin each book also dealt with a different social clique at high school...
  21. ...damnation. I've never bought a Deathstroke comic in my life, but this preview art is so pretty that I might add it to my Rebirth pull list. It has a real MGS, Big Boss type feel to it, which would be agreed direction to push Slade.
  22. So...there was a novel I remember hearing the concept for that I thought sounded interesting...but I can't remember the title. Can anyone help me out? As I understand it, the idea was that the protagonist wakes up one day, and discovers that he's an alien (I think). The premise was that he was... Undergoing, like, a quirk of his species, where he became a different person. In every way; his personality would change, his gender would change, everything. Who he used to be was gone, and he was going to spend the next four years swapping between being a different person each year...and at the end of it, he'd have to choose which person he wanted to spend the rest of his life as. Itsounded like an interesting idea...but I cannot remember the title, or the author. Anyone heard of this series?
  23. I believe that this would be the point when everyone starts tutting, shaking their heads and whispering about how Twi has "gone native".
  24. I sort of read this in the same voice as a 19th century anthropologist.
  25. Yeah, that would make more sense; part of the roots of it was her parents telling her, basically, to go along with it. So, that would probably give a foundation for the idea that people who side with epics also qualify as "good"...
