I hate all of you. I shall exact my revenge with the help of my two 70-odd Eevee's, and my Venonat.

Kevin was amazing, but yeah; the ghostbusters themselves were pretty awesome. Holtzman is Best Ghostbuster.

...guys. You're making me want to get this game. Stop it.

...I suspect my Lyla post is underwhelming, but whatevs. Not putting effort in is so much cooler than, like, trying, you know? Also, hope I didn't go overboard with the rationalisation stuff? Hopefully I got her from being not okay with Shiny's actions to justifying them...believably, i suppose is the word?

Some people were touchy-feely types. From the way Shiny was parking all over the photographer, it was clear she was one of those people. Lyla, on the other hand, was not. A sarcastic ("And," she would be quick to point out, "total misrepresentation if the facts, so there!") would describe her as the 'wait-in-the-bushes' type. Still, she did her best to stop her discomfort from showing. She wasn't comfortable with being touched, exactly, but it wasn't like Shiny knew that. Shiny was just trying to be a cool big sister- Okay, she didn't say cool, but that was because it was so obvious it didn't need to be said- Plus, they were practically family now! Today just kept getting better and better!- Yeah, this was totally a super cool thing! Caressing her neck, sultry whisperings and threats of discipline were just how Shiny showed affection! Totally normal! After all, Shiny was a grown up and an epic. She knew a lot more about that kind of thing than some fifteen-more-or-less year old vanilla did. Yeah! Shiny was her cool-big-sister-mentor type! Which, it went without saying, was the coolest thing ever! ...but, was it uncool to show how cool that was? After all, epic's didn't go around showing how cool their lives were, did they? Not showing how cool you were, that was how you were cool. And if Lyla was being groomed as a future epic (which she obviously was! Why else would Shiny be all touchy-feely if she didn't plan on gifting Lyla withawesome superpowers?) she needed to start acting that way, didn't she? "Yeah," she said, trying to drop her voice an octave and feign disinterest. "Sure. Whatevs." She flipped her hood up, realised suddenly that might have been too cool then pushed it back down again. If Shiny wasn't currently gr-holding her, she'd probably have folded her arms, or posed, or pouted or something. You know. Something cool.

Honestly, I'm sort of considering fitting this movie into the Timmverse canon. Some alterations, and it SORT OF fits in...

So...Yeah. Asthenia title says. I have some...vague ideas for settings or concepts, but I'm finding it hard to turn them into actual stories. Any advice?

Just spent four hours trying to get something -anything!- on a age, and failed spectacularly. I feel your pain. -
Eh...it is, apparently, canon to the Timmverse. Though Beyond was the first place it got mentioned. A few tie-in comics suggested how it went down though... In comics, Barbara tends to get paired more with Nightwing...Though I've seen some fans propose her and Black Canary.

I...generally prefer to let movies stew a bit before talking about them, but... Okay. Killing Joke. This is a very uneven film. I feel like the film-makers had good intentions with it; the truth is, the Killing Joke can be a damnation problematic book, so adapting it requires a very careful hand. Unfortunately, just realising the problem isn't the same as fixing it, and I feel like the steps they took to address the concerns that Babs gets side-lined and fridge only serves to accentuate them. I understand that the prologue was meant to restore Babs some agency, give her a chance to get revenge against the Joker via a proxy. And the villain of the prologue is very, very much a Joker proxy, in a way I'll go into when I do a full in-depth analysis. Unfortunately, I feeling maybe does more harm than good. The movie starts with a voice over from Babs, warning of the "approaching storm" That's gathering. The first twenty to thirty minutes are basically a Batgirl solo film, with Bruce taking a back seat. Unfortunately, that just makes the shift when the Killing Joke happens even more intense; Barbara vanishes from the film. Her voice over disappears. That portion of the film hews very closely to the book...and Barbara didn't have a major role in the book. The film is, implicitly, set up as her story; hers is the first voice we hear, the first figure we see. We spend a lot of time with her...So the shift in narrative is very obvious. There's a stinger at the end of the film which cements that. It features Barbara, in her wheelchair...and apparently well-adjusted to the fact. We see her talking over the phone about getting into wall ball, and end with Oracle "getting to work"... But Barbara's story getting to that point? Isn't told. We don't see how she reacts to the revelation that she'll never walk again; no one even tells her that on screen. We skip over a very important part of her character arc. Basically, the prologue and the epilogue tells us this is a Batgirl story, while the bulk of the film says it's a Batman/Joker story. The pieces don't gel together. The prologue and the epilogue feel bolted on, and don't enhance the rest of the work. ...this, of course, is saying nothing of the content itself. As I say, that's something I'll cover when I get to the nitty gritty of analysing it. So... I hope this is okay as a sampler?

Unrelated, has anyone seen Ghostbusters? I saw it last night, and I actually rather liked it. It's not the greatest movie ever or anything, but it was fun, and I'd go see a sequel.

Well. I bought a copy of the Killing Joke. I'm not a fan of the comic, and I've heard... things about the film. Figure it's worth giving it a try, but still. There is a decent chance I might end up ranting about it here, or penning a story involving Barbara Gordon and Twilight Sparkle (because Tara Strong voices both those characters) "fixing" things, or..yeah. This is gonna be a fun ride guys.

I see you Steve Horse, and raise you Fan.tasia.

This picture is 110% percent accurate. Donna Troy is probably the most complicated character to explain to a non-comic book audience.

Brandon Sanderson-esque books
Quiver replied to Assassin in Burgundy's topic in Entertainment Discussion
The Old Kingdoms Trilogy by Garth Nix. I remember reading it a few years ago, and really liked it then. I haven't read it since -so I cn't say whether or not it's held up- but it was certainly something I enjoyed. As far as Sanderson-isms go, it's got a pretty in-depth explanation of it's magic system, so that's always cool. -
I haven't actually rad the comic. I just happened to stumble across the link and thought it was worth sharing.

My only regret is that I have but one update to give. Also, "not into corpses". Have we finally found the line Shiny won't cross, or is that just a significant how non-canon this is?

Yeah, I agree. The writing felt... I don't know, very hard to follow? I basically ended up just sort of turning my brain off and enjoying the action scenes... ...Speaking of which, I do find this movie sort of hilarious. Yorktown is basically "DS9 with a decent budget" and Kirk's costume is very, very much in the style of the uniforms from Enterprise, with the shoulder stripes and blue.

Wonder Woman is... complicated? Let's say complicated. Her traditional origin has her as an immaculate birth. Her mother, Hippolyta, made a baby out of clay that came to life. Some versions of the story change it slightly so that the gods either brought Diana to life after Hippolyta "made" her, and gave her certain gifts (like wisdowm, speed, the ability to punch things good... you know. The usual.) Her New 52 origin changed all the above to being a lie she was told to keep her safe, and she is actually the daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus. As in, and born the, uh, normal way... And her current storyline is suggesting that that story was a lie too. So her line in the trailer that she was "brought to life by Zeus" could mean a lot of things. Yeah, those three never really get a chance to graduate beyond that team, unfortunatly . But yup, all DC characters. They actually have a new comic coming out later this year, and they released a movie featuring those characters relatively recently... (Justice League vs Teen Titans, if your curious)

Added information; did you ever see the old Teen Titans cartoon? He was in that. If not, you should go watch the old Teen Titans cartoon. He was in it.
