Radiant Eye Color - Poor, Misunderstood Dustbringers
garlick replied to Solomonster's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Brandon's said that's why they hate the name dusttbringer. Between having red eyes and sounding like voidbringer they prefer the term releasers. The red eyes are partly why they are feared, and the term dustbringer is similar to voidbringer and the sheer destruction of there powers. -
I don't agree with the kicking dog analogy. I think its more of a beast of burden sort of thing. Horses ridden by men. Cows milked and slaughtered. I would see shard plate more like wearing leather. You've killed the beast and used it for something else. In this case it just does the same job with maybe a few less perks. True spren are human. Lesser spren are animals. Didn't syl say her aunt or someone used to hunt a type of spren. We've even seen some nasty ones like anger spren in the CR. The bubbling is their saliva and that's all we see. Yes wind spren might be more like your pet cat and not a savage beast but even humans would put their furry friends corpse to use if they got something like shard plate.

What Hoid Is Really Doing With Adonalsium
garlick replied to Worldhopper From Yolen's topic in Cosmere Discussion
He wasn't dead was he. I thought it was more coma/brain damage situation. So he was never truly dead. The brain being the control center for the body but it was damaged so the soul couldn't use the body. Soul stamps by nature you need to truly know a person to make to valid soul stamp that would take. She had to know him to make a stamp that wouldn't change who he was. Then she tweaked the event to damage something other then his head tricking his soul/body to reconnect. I would argue since his body never died he was trapped in the CR while his body lived he wasn't dead but his connection to his body was severed from the brain damage. Shai fixed that connection. -
Another crackpot idea By the end of book 5 Dalinar will pick up the shattered power of honor reforming into the new shard of unity. Odium crems his pants and hides. Time gap between the 2 halves. Dalinar/Unity meets cultivation learns about the shards what happened to honor and the many other victims of odium. They team up learning from honors shattering and go on the offense and they take odium out. Cultivation sacrifices herself in the battle to avenge her old lover. Dalinar unable to help himself unites all 3 shards becoming a very dangerous intent for the rest of the cosmere.

What Hoid Is Really Doing With Adonalsium
garlick replied to Worldhopper From Yolen's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I used to think that but I think he has another game. I personally think brandon was being sneaky there. When he talked about reforming the shards would it the same as the original. I think brandon was using what happened to andolisium as a chance to put the idea in your head that putting the peices back together could give you something new. Honor was shattered if his power was brought back together and reformed would it still be the shard of honor. Or would you end up with something like Unity. Mistborn spoilers -
I know nale said something to that effect. Something about the bonds and without honor to put checks on them. I feel a lot of that was limiting there power. They destroyed their last planet with surges and left unchecked could do so again. Could he of limited some abilties so they couldn't do some things absolutley.
-
I think thats the most likely thing to happen by the end of book 5. We've seen the dual shard happen. Yea a tri shard would be cool but its to close to the end mistborn. I have a feeling that conversation wit had with Dalinar fishing to find out if he knew about andolisium was a bit of forshadowing if you reassembled his pieces would he be the same thing. If it applied to uncle Andy it could apply to honor. Gather the shattered peices put it back together you might end up with unity instead.

This started off as a random thought as I was reading on the shard but the more I think about this the more it makes sense. Aether is the missing magic Kriss speaks of in the arc arcanum at the end of oathbringer. Its probably a crack pot idea but hear me out. We have 2 on screen easter eggs about aether I know of both with Mriase. Also a WoB that aether is cannon. But I also think we may have seen it 2 other times. Yelg'nar. To bond with him and gain his powers you must swallow a gemstone. With roshars loose definitions I can see a crystal being called a gem stone if they really dont know what it is. But what strikes me was the crystal protrusion that grew out of Amaran and also the queen I think. But I also think its a corrupted version of it being an unmade. Aether of night spoilers below Now the biggest reach for this is connecting it to cultivation. The curse/boon thing is of the nightwatcher. Like the highstorm is of the stormfather. Its her ability as a mega spren. I dont think its directly connected to her magic system. What if the honor blades were honors contribution and the dawnshards were cultivations. But the dawnshards were to powerful/uncontrollable. Trusted to the amians to hide them away. The cook told the dying soulcaster there were secrets that would mean the end of worlds. I keep getting an image of those water tanks you get as a kid and grow crystals in. An under water "atium"/aether mine. Could hold the secrets to old fabrials and why they cant be reproduced. Aether may of been the source. Granting surges to any who can use the fabrial. Again the pesky spren copy what their their gods have done and get trapped in gemstones in modern fabrials. Most recently Mr. T said the halfshards contain a spren that could bond a knight or something to that effect. Sorry if im all over the place in on a phone and its hard for me to write my ideas. This is mostly the core of my train of thought and most likely way off base but it was a fun distraction.

I see it as odium agreed to the contest of champions and chose Dalinar but he declined. Dalinar isnt his champion bit he still agreed to the contest. If Dalinar see him again he can call for the contest and odium would have to choose a champion to fight Dalinar....and he knows just how good Dalinar is thats why he chose him to start with. Now he has to pick someone who could defeat his first pick.
-
Half serious plot predictions eh. Aether is part of cutivations magic. We know its a cannon magic system, and seen a few hints to its existence in stormlight. Also in the arcanum kirss says there should be another magic system. Mainly a wild shot in the dark thats probably not true but fun to think about.

The Final Surges: Division, Cohesion, and Tension (and Unity?)
garlick replied to Pagerunner's topic in Stormlight Archive
I came away with "unity" power being something unrelated to the surges but using remanates of honors power. -
As I read this thread I just keep getting a mental image of a copper compounder being able to keep the memories whiles hes compounding while storing a new copper mind. With the era 2 tech I could see medallions that instantly teach you things. A copper compounding doctor stores his knowlage compounds it back filling medallions and keeps his memories.

I dont think all of this can be attributed to Evi. Dalinar was a good man even then. I see him as a beserker. In the battlefield he was a monster theres no doubt about that. But even in his first flashback when he was shot by the assassin he quickly came up with the idea well spare your town from looting and the other nasty things that came with conquering his town to recruit the assassin. Like he just needed a reason to stop it. Also i think it said he didn't take part in those activities. He was already a good man....just don't get on gis bad side. Evi more cultivated his good side and tried to repress the monster. Taking away his memories took away his guilt and self hatred to allow him to become who he is today.

[OB] There's something - or someone - missing
garlick replied to Leyrann's topic in Stormlight Archive
Just reading the OP of this thread n loved the idea of a 3rd shard. And of we are going with crazy theories. We know honor n cultivation were an item. What if they had a "child" called unity and his God spren is the sibling. Would kinda fit with the idea -
Yes when they first get there and going across the oathgate platform shallan was making to get out of the sea of beads.
-
Just a crazy idea I had. Maybe BAM is trapped in a perfect gem below kholinar and galivar was able to use it to charge gem stones with voidlight. We do know supplying void light was one of BAMa abilities.

cryptic [OB] So could Teravangion be a proto lightweaver
garlick replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
Maybe her taking the memory captured them in shadesmar. Kind of like a bleed through effect. She is able to see into the realm for soulcasting. -
[OB] The name of the Stone is the answer
garlick replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
I always thought it was because it was soulcast. When rysin and her master were trading with the shin they only traded for metal that was soulcast n no rocks were destroyed. If Urithiru was soulcast then its also not unholy.- 9 replies

My head cannons been. Humans came to roshar lived in the lands given to them. They out grew or wasn't happy n decided to take more which began a huge war between the dawnsingers and humans. The humans were winning so Odium offered the dawnsingers powers to turn the tides in their favor. Honor stepped in and created the heralds to counter this stopping the newly found fused. People seeing the powers of the heralds attributed the powers to spren. Since spren are cognitive creatures over time and enough belief the nahel spren came into existance copying what Honor did with the heralds. They chose to bond with humans because they gained more from the bond. I think it was in WoR it was said the singers were their broth where humans were their meat. So this was the start of surgebinders. The heralds saw what happened and the knights radiance was founded and oaths were put into place to control the powers of surgebindjng because without the checks the oaths have they had the power to destroy planets. When the heralds abandoned the oath pact and the KR breaking their oaths some spren feel the lesser bond and more honorable singers might be the better option. That's why venli was able to bond her spren.

Thank you felt. I've been thinking if doing something similar but you said it better then I ever could. I'd just like to add Sanderson himself practically warned us of this at the end if WoR. When wit was speaking to the cremling, if you gain a reputation of being to good, to skilled....beware. The better art will be in their head and if you give them an ounce less suddenly you have failed. On a series of this scale not everything can be the greatest. So what kaladin didn't swear the 4th ideal. You want one per book where does that leave him to go in book 5 the end of this arch. Sadeas's murder wasn't a major plotline oh well he was a bad guy who needed to be taken out so the true bad guy could come. Why waste precious pages about someone who is now irrelevant to the story even more so by the end, the only people who cared joined the bad guys. We also know alot had to be cut to make the book printable. And it was Dalinars book and we got to see great things with him and alot of progression. Is oathbringer my favorite stormlight book no not by far. But I will read it 5 more times before I read anything from another author. Not saying its his worst book because it isn't but even Sandersons worst book is better then most authors best. I just shake my head when I read the threads complaining. To quote wit again...give me an audience who's come to be entertained, but who expects Nothing special. To them I will be a god. That is the best truth i know. Well Mr. Sanderson you are my writing god. Thanks for letting me into your stories and world.

Feruchemy if only because I could use copper to put all my memories of Sanderson books and experience all of his works like its the first time over and over.

That kinda makes sense. I just assumed the pattern was due to the old cities being built with cymatics (I think that's the word)in mind and that was what she picked up on. But I guess it wouldn't make sense to build a city in the grand canyon to be able to have the tops of the towers be ground level.
-
I'm a little confused about the shattered plains. My head cannon since WoR has been that the shattered plains is not what it was presented to be. With Shallan asking Andolin to slay this rock to find out its part of a building. Then Andolin used that hint to sneak up on the parshendi that were chanting by cutting into a building and using it to circle around. Add in the fact that Shallan was able to see the pattern of the city to draw out the map and pinpoint the oddity to figure out where the oathgate was placed. I came to the conclusion that it was a forgotten city. Thousands of years of high storms depositing crem with no upkeep eventually turned it into what we see as the shattered plains. Am I missing something. As I read posts people still use them as examples for instance I recently read one where someone theorized that one reason the knights foreswore their oaths.... Oathbringer spoilers below There's been alot of instances where people still speak of the plains as shattered. I'd like to know what you guys think. Did I read to much into this. Was there some sort of shattering to the city that caused it to be abandoned? If so how did it still keep the pattern Shallan recognized. I would really like to get my head cannon right.

[OB] - The Cosmeric implications of Oathbringer's ending
garlick replied to rdog2213's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm with number 2. Possibly using all 3 shards of Roshar in a harmony type of super shard. My impression during my reads of oathbringer when Odium said "we killed you" my thought was odium and his fused killed honor. The we just meant him and his army, at most him and another shard. The thought of uncle Andy never crossed my mind. As far as the light and unite them. I feel like Honors CS is kinda hiding inside of the Stormfather but is very weak and is able to do very little. Preservation in secret history comes to mind. The light he feels being honors investiture and unite them being akin to preservation tearing the pages for a clue. Very small thing to do but in his weakened state about all he could muster.- 69 replies

Spren were around before honor, but were nahel bond spren around. Its plausible to me they created there own spren after humans came to Roshar. That still keeps with the WoB that spren were there before them. As for Unity my own personal idea is that's what the combined Roshar shards would be, in a ruin/preservation = harmony. He just isn't able to ascend to shard level yet because cultivation and odium still have there shards and dalinar isnt ready to reassemble honor. Its gonna take a level 5 bondsmith to accomplish reforming honor and defeating odium to truly become unity. I also think him ascending is more of a lord ruler type of ascention.
