Long Game 22: Corenne al'Daishar
Metacognition replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I pointed out that you were the first person to vote for Mayor and then someone else also votes for you. You're making this into an I Know You Know situation. "No two Darkfriends would work together like this!" Except for when they would expect that the Villagers wouldn't think that two Darkfriends would do so. Then it spirals into chaos, as if the Darkfriends knew that people would suspect that the Villagers could expect the Darkfriends to work together, then they wouldn't. But, then they could. And on and on it goes. Point is, saying that they wouldn't do something because it's expected isn't a very good defense, IMO. Along those lines, with as few votes and as close as the votes have been in recent games, I could totally see the Darkfriends doing something like that. Directing the lynch is a very valuable tool. So yes, I consider the Mayor mechanic to be plenty crucial. Why are you down playing it? Is there a reason you want everyone to discount its potential? It's the only vote manipulation in the game (that we know of). That makes it pretty powerful in my eyes. Also, me saying that you're suspicious doesn't mean that I automatically think you're a Darkfriend. Just means that you're someone I'm keeping an eye on. If given more evidence, I'd be more willing to consider you a Darkfriend. If everyone were to start at 50%, you're at 40% type thing. You seem to make it sound like I'm already considering you a Darkfriend. I'm a bit more suspicious of you now though, because you didn't even bring up me voting for myself for Mayor. For as much weight as you're putting on me for putting suspicion on you for voting for yourself, you failed to even mention that. Makes me think that you looked for a reason to vote for me more so than any actual suspicion. You're reacting to my suspicion of both of you (Sarah and Jak) as if it's strictly suspicion on you. Seems a bit defensive to me. -

Mezal stomped out of his workshop still only half dressed. When he saw everyone milling about and carrying pitchforks and torches and causing a commotion, he rubbed the sleep from his eyes, sighed deeply, and went right back inside. He came out only a few seconds later and he was carrying his hammer. He banged it against the side of his forge a few times, causing an extremely loud gonging sound. Once he had everyone's attention, he glared at each of them in turn. "Would you all bloody shut up for just a second? You white-livered sons of goats would struggle to pour water from a boot even if it had instructions on the heel!" "But the Mayor has been murdered!" Someone shouted from the crowd. "Is that so?" Mezal asked sarcastically. "And what does that have to do with the lot of you all running around like flaming chickens with your flaming heads cut off? You ain't going to find the killer by running amok and ruining people's sleep! Yall want to find the light-forsaken killer, you'd best be looking for clues! Find out where everyone was at the time he was killed. Blood and bloody ashes! We ain't some bloody Aiel that just go stringing people up!" Mezal just continued to glare at the crowd as they stood there dumbfounded for a moment. "Well? Off with you then! Go on! Find the bloody killer and bring them back here and I'll bash their boneheaded brains in! 'Cept for you, Lorien. You stay put while I go get your bloody helmet." There. Now we have an in-game reason for suspecting people as well. I agree with this; though agreeing with Keland so early always worries me. Beyond that, it almost feels like you're trying to feel out whether or not there will be a lynch, Sarah (I will be using everyone's character's names to hopefully get them to associate more with their characters. Sorry if that gets confusing). Seems like that would be a pretty beneficial thing for the Darkfriends to know. If they didn't have to worry about a lynch, then they could spend more time trying to distance themselves from each other rather than worry about whether they're going to get one of them lynched because of it. I'll say this much, if there's a tie at the end of the day, I'll break it. I 100% believe in lynching on the first day. We shouldn't be wasting turns because of a role. We can find the Darkfriends without any roles as long as we're clever. So let's all be clever. Three things: One for Gamma- Will this vote count since you only clarified about Orange for Mayor votes afterwards? Two- I see no reason to start the Mayor vote until we've at least had a little bit of discussion to go off of to determine the likelihood of someone being a Villager. The fact that you want it so bad as to start it off already makes me a bit suspicious. Three- Since it'll only take one vote to become Mayor (as Gamma just recently and "coincidentally" considering your vote for yourself) clarified, then it should be for someone that can keep his cool under pressure. Mezal for Mayor! EDIT: and Now Sarah votes for Jak too. I don't tend to believe that heavily in coincidence like that. You're both on my list to watch. -

Mezal eyed the crack in the helmet Lorien had left suspiciously, as if it had broken on purpose. "Flaming thing. Making more bloody work for me as if I don't have enough to do around here." As he contemplated how to go about the repair and made some mental notes, the steel rod he'd been working on went cold on the anvil. By the time Mezal noticed, it was too late. The only thing it would be good for now was scrap pieces until he could smelt it down and forge a new billet out of it. Mezal's eyes widened when he realized what had happened. He stood there in shock for a moment before glowering back at the helmet. "Burn me! See what you made me do, you Light-forsaken, crackbrained, prancing she-goat!" He threw the helmet against the wall as hard as he could; causing the crack in it to split the helmet in half. "Oh, just bloody great! Now I'll bloody well have to just make an entire new flaming helmet!" Despite his rage, Mezal got straight to work. He stoked the forge and started prepping a new piece of steel; all while cursing up a storm. Here's a link to LG6 at least. We've had so many games now that there are multiple pages of previous games to go through! -

Mezal Althara stooped and glared at the length of steel slowly turning a bright orange color in his forge. "Hurry up, you goat-fathered jackdaw." He growled. "Blood and bloody ashes, I swear, I'll turn you into a latrine scraper if you don't get nice and hot right this minute!" He stood there waiting for all of three seconds before throwing up his hands in disgust and stomping his surprisingly thin frame for a blacksmith over to the bellows. "Let's see how you bloody well like this then!" He shouted as he pumped the bellows ferociously; causing his entire workroom to quickly fill with red-hot embers. One of them landed on his arm, adding yet another burn to the impressive collection Mezal had all over his body. He jumped back with a cry of shock and outrage while swiping at the ember, trying to get it off his skin. "Mother's milk in a cup! Go kiss a goat, you boneheaded, addled-brained buffoon! That does it! I warned you! You just became a set of horseshoes! That way, you can get stomped on all day long!" He stomped back to the forge, whipped the now brightly shining rod out, slammed it down on the anvil, and started banging on it as if it had murdered his whole family. Despite all the commotion and cursing and cuts and burns, the wares hanging outside his shop were all of top quality. How he pulled this off, no one was quite sure. We've got a lot of travelers in town, so it's time to help start populating the village of Drell's Crossing itself. And what self respecting village doesn't have a blacksmith. So now we have an innkeeper, a blacksmith, and a widow. Too bad we don't have a cobbler, eh Maill? -
I think Elbereth's lengthy dissertation of this game pretty well sums up any additional thoughts I'd have about this game! So I'll just say congrats to the Spiked and Araris! I thought the inclusion of ascension in this game was really interesting and really well done. Thanks to Elbereth, Kipper, and Phattemer for running it! I was curious how three GMs would wind up working out and you three pulled it off succinctly. Now, as always, if anyone would like to try your hand at running a game, please get a hold of Gamma, Wilson, Alvron, or myself. Not only will we get you added to the list, but I'm sure we'd be more than willing to help out in any way we can as well! You can also ask questions and get some hints and feedback from everyone over here in our Art of Game Creation thread as well. With all the games that we've run so far, we have plenty of experienced GMs that can help you refine any game you're thinking about! Thanks again to everyone that played and we look forward to seeing you in future games!

Just to let people know, we have Group PMs set up for figuring out who's running which games and when. We do try to keep on top of it. It's been a bit hectic at times, especially with the schedule change, but we've always done our best to make sure we keep to the schedule. So don't worry about who's running what when. We've got that covered. Just prepare yourself for the next round, cause we'll always make sure that there's one available for everyone!

M did a quick sweep of his hideout. Though he found no bugs or transmitters, it was still not worth the risk to stay there any longer. Ms. Oniel would be back shortly to wipe the drives before taking the rest of the day to hopefully lose any possible tails she may have picked up. It was an irritating routine that they went through every time they switched locations, but a necessary one as well. It had happened far too often for them to get lax about it now. M turned to go, but paused just before leaving. He didn't know where the note had come from and was unlikely to find out, but he would use all the help he could get. As he walk out the door, he threw up a thumbs up, just in case. *** Less than a couple hours later, M sat in front of a new set of monitors. Unlike his last hideout, this one had an entire wall of windows, but he wasn't worried about people spying on him. It was difficult to do so from the 78th floor. Already there had been multiple other deaths, including the entire previous task force. M sat, apparently unfazed, as he watched the tapes of the deaths again and again. "Most of the deaths occurred right after the other; within seconds of each other. But then, it's hours before Hideki's death. If Kira just needed the names of everyone involved, then he should have been capable of killing them all off at once, but that's not what happened." He took a sip of coffee before continuing talking to himself. "No, Kira must have been nearby. He waited close to the Bureau the entire time, waiting to make sure that everyone from the task force was dead. When Hideki comes in in the morning, Kira was still waiting. "Thus, we can infer that Kira must not have known everyone that was on the Task Force ahead of time. He must be like the 2nd Kira and just need to see someone's face to kill them." M set down his coffee and began typing rapidly, pulling up any and all surveillance from the couple of blocks surrounding the Task Force's Headquarters from the 24 hours surrounding the deaths. "Somewhere in all of this, you're hiding somewhere, Kira. And I intend to catch you."

In my PM with him, Lopen only gave me a list of people that he thought were likely not Ryuk. We only had a few PMs back and forth since I hadn't gotten on until late in the cycle though, so we didn't really get much farther than that.

He didn't tell me whether or not he had told you his role either. I just wanted to make you sweat and see how you'd respond. I do think it's suspicious that A- you're still alive and B- were looking for a police officer at the end of the last turn and C- that Lopen told me that he really thought you were village. I don't see why Ryuk and the Holder would want you to be able to continue consolidating the roles against them, especially if you've been scanned now, to hit someone randomly. Sure, they could know that the longer you're alive, the more likely we'll lynch you ourselves, but by then the damage is already done.

Well, with 3 minutes left, we really do need to break this tie. We shouldn't be relying on Ryuk to possibly do so. DC. We've had some great discussion this first cycle, but we really do need more people voting!

I kind of want to vote for DC, just because he's not been helpful, but I also don't think that he's likely to be Ryuk. Doing what he did was almost guaranteed to being attention onto him; something I just don't see Ryuk wanting to do. That said, unhelpful villager is unhelpful.

All caught up in thread. Okay, let's add some input then! First off, I want to remind everyone of a very simple point, but one that is very easy to overlook when you're going through the thread: There are only two people that are not trying to catch Ryuk/Holder at any given point in time. Mindblowing, I know. What I mean by this though is that we're going to have a lot of innocent vs. innocent conflicts going on. Just keep this in mind when determining your suspicions. In a lot of games, we're looking for a cabal of players working together to manipulate an outcome. That won't work here. They don't have the people to do such. We're going to want to look more for inconsistencies. Who switched their reasoning with little provocation and stuff like that; especially if/when the Holder is switched. So just keep this in mind when trying to determine someone's alignment. Two people disagreeing are far more likely to be two civilians than it is to be Ryuk/Holder arguing with someone. Now, on to other topics: I 100% agree with this. If we can help it, we should be trying to, funnily enough, keep the Holder alive. Make Ryuk have to waste a turn to convert someone new, rather than us killing the Holder for them and then letting them switch. Granted, if they switch, they risk hitting a police officer or L and thus wasting a turn with no kill, but if we know who the Holder is, Ryuk is going to want to switch the Holder anyways. Lopen is more than likely a villager in my eyes now. I'm not entirely sure why there's so much talk about keeping L a secret. Murderers are not going to want to kill him and the DeathNote kill is a shared kill, so they only get one per cycle. We could technically have L just reveal in thread and then the Police Officers protect him each night*. This was my first plan that I came up with to help find Ryuk and then everyone could claim to L, but I don't like how Follow-the-Cop it is and so I'd rather we didn't. *Note: DO NOT do that, L unless you're about to get lynched. The Officers should be as free to move around their protection as possible for as long as possible. I'm just saying that it's not a huge concern when it comes up. Hael, I get why you're suggesting the fake peeks and such, but since we do have PMs, we don't really need it and I think it would more than likely let Ryuk and the Holder find L faster right now. Since we do have PMs, once L scans someone, L can contact that person and let them know who all they've scanned in the past. The only way that we lose all of L's scans is if the Murderers wind up killing L's target the same turn L dies (which reminds me, I do not suggest that the murderers wind up killing based on the lynch. That's the part that makes me the most suspicious of Joe right now. We can only hope that he's telling the truth though, because if not, we're in trouble since people naively revealed to him. If he is the Holder or Ryuk, that will be apparent soon enough, IMO.). I don't think it's necessary for us to do fake peeks in this game.

It's already on its way... in a manner of speaking. Any and all items you would need to complete any task would be provided for you upon request and as long as they are to help with the investigation. M picked up the piece of paper by a corner, holding it up askew. He turned his head so that he could read it before setting it aside. He'd have the lab he had on standby analyze it later. The more pressing question, he thought as he returned to his computer monitors, is how the note arrived. Is our location already compromised? The room offered no answers, as there were no windows or exits other than the singular door or the small air vents. If we are compromised, we'll need to move to plan C. Which will remove G, H, and I from the list as well. D and E still seem like they might be salvageable though. He sighed as he continued clicking through the screens. "Already the complications begin." This person did go to great lengths to get it to me. Either they are in dire need or they are very resourceful. This will need to handled w- His train of thought cut off as he opened an email with a photo sent from the mysterious A. This, he thought as he cocked his head to once side and rubbed his earlobe. This will have to take precedence though. Could Kira really be so easily forthcoming? M studied the picture in silence. I agree with this as well. Let's not turn this into a one-up-manship of who can wish on the best things. I call it the genie effect, since it's all just wishful thinking and doesn't get anywhere. "Well, if you have that, then I wish for this!" "Fine then, I'll wish for this! So there!" The only reason I countered him on the records was because it really didn't fit the character; not that it defeated the purpose of the gambit. Let's keep this at least somewhat reasonable. We're all writing a story together after all and no one wants to read a story about a bunch of Mary Sues.

M took a sip of coffee apathetically as he watched Joseph rant and rage. He had already installed surveillance in all of their homes. The transmitter in the tv was just one of many. "He's not wrong, you know." He said to the empty room around him. "But this investigation is too important to be botched by a loose cannon. We'll have to figure out some way to contain Mr. Busshu's.... antics until we can put them to use in an efficient way." Let's just say that the explosives would be provided to you. You wouldn't have to pay for them yourself, if that's what you're asking.

When the situation calls for it. This is an investigation to bring Kira to justice. The chances that something is going to have to be blown up eventually is almost 100%. Pay? I'm giving you the chance to work for me. Shouldn't that be payment enough? Plus, I'm kind of holding your records hostage.... Only one proxy server? With the records stored on a computer connected to the internet? You don't give me enough credit. M watched as the hacker made short work of the security he'd installed specifically for that purpose. It took "A" only a few minutes to find the file containing the fake records; including his own. This is good. M thought to himself. Having someone of their capabilities on board will make this task significantly easier. Now he sat back to wait for the hacker to realize that he'd been had. Sorry Joe. I just thought it was a good way to introduce my character and his capabilities. If you like, you guys are more than welcome to come get them from me. Just a switch of target rather than the Interpol thing, and I'll actually be able to reply back!

Every screen in the building suddenly goes blank. Moment's later, an image appears and through a hundred different speakers, the same message can be heard. "Greetings Kira. And to you as well, L. I- am M. "No, not that 'M.' I'm afraid Mellow has been otherwise occupied and will likely be so for quite some time. In his stead, I have taken it upon myself to do what L and the police cannot; which is to find Kira and bring him to justice. I hope that the rest of you will be willing to assist me in this endeavor. If you will not, then please kindly do not get in my way. "Oh, and a message to those that are considering breaking into Interpol to confiscate their records: it is not recommended. I've already taken the liberty of removing everyone's records for the duration of the investigation. They are stored in a safe location that only I will have access to. So you need not fear your information falling into the wrong hands and the only thing you will accomplish will be to risk getting caught by Interpol security. "Instead of planning a wild goose chase, I offer you another option. You can work for me. You have 3 days to decide on whether or not you will accept my offer. I will be in touch." After the message finishes playing, the screens go blank again before returning to their regularly scheduled programming. The only sign that anything had happened at all is the looks of surprise and shock on the faces of those around you. As the self-proclaimed Holder of the Death Note Shard, there's no way I could sit this game out. You know me too well, Alv.

A new Oathbreaker is chosen, just as if the Breaker was lynched. Simple. It keeps everything in the dark and keeps there from being problems with people trying to exploit it somehow.
-
I like this idea. I'm building off of it, but switching a few things (because it seems a little random on who would be alive at the end, even though it goes to one of the lynchers). This has the makings of an awesome QF, IMO. If you have an Oathstone, you're bound to someone else's will. As such, I'd have two roles: the Oathbreaker and the Oathstone Holder. The two do not know who each other are. The Holder is the one who actually gets the say on the kill. If the Holder should die, the Oathstone transfers to someone else randomly. The Oathbreaker though, this is where it could get fun. The Oathbreaker cannot reveal themselves as such to the thread. If they are revealed in thread (say, someone tries to get everyone to say that they're the Oathbreaker, something the Oathbreaker can't do*) they die. Their goal though is to get the Oathstone Holder killed via the lynch (since that way, they're not the ones actually doing the killing). If they do so, they are no longer an Oathbreaker and the title transfers randomly to someone else (though they can become a Breaker again in the future)**. The only issue I've yet to decide is what happens near the end game. Since the Holder and Breaker are randomly distributed each time, what will eventually happen is that there are 3 people left: 1 Holder, 1 Breaker, and 1 Regular. If the Holder is lynched, then the Breaker becomes the Holder and the Regular becomes a Breaker. If the Breaker is lynched, the Regular becomes the Breaker. If the Regular is lynched, the remaining two stay the same. If all of the above cases, it's not good news for the Regular and only one of the scenarios favors the Breaker (this is assuming that the Holder is capable of making the Breaker target themselves the next night). So, there needs to be some way to balance this so that each player has a fair shot at the end of the game and I'd think that it'd be ready to go! *This is to shut down any possible shenanigans with people trying to narrow down who the Oathbreaker is via tricks. **They have to actually take place in the lynch of the person for it to count as them getting the Oathstone Holder killed via lynch.

I wish I had more time to put in some final thoughts for this game, but alas, tempus fugit. This game was a lot of fun. I really liked the map and locations, even if it did make our job that much harder to try to kill everyone. Even with the locations though, I think we could've still pulled off the win if it wasn't for our horrible luck! Every one of our strong roles died right before we could use them. We lost Wonko with the Harmsway right off the bat and then Elk didn't even have a chance to gain an extra life from Mitosis before she died. So many missed opportunities. Congrats to the Blood Tyrants. Really wish Lopen would've taken me up on my offer to help them though. I would've become a full blown gang member, promise!

We tend to use Google Docs for a lot of our Spectator stuff, Thingyman. So no worries that we'll be the ones to spoil anything! That does remind me though, while I wholeheartedly do suggest people joining in with Thingyman's spectator stuff as well, if anyone would like a link to what will be our Spectator Doc for the Championship, please PM me and I'll send you a link (I'll send one to you as well Thingyman). Good luck Hael! Show 'em all how it's done!- 636 replies

You sure you want that, Seonid? Seems like he might not be that great at it if he can't spell "color" right.
