Spoilers from WoK, HoA, Cosmere So I start off with a theory post (actually linked to in my sig!), and immediately make two mistakes - I say 12 shards, not 16, and I say Sel not Scadrial (and I say Scandrial...). To this day, I still get Scadrial and Sel mixed up (well, more I keep calling Scadrial 'Sel'. I don't think I've ever called Sel 'Scadrial', though it's not impossible). My first 16 posts were all WoK/WoR related theory stuff, and then I jumped into Timebubble and FTL stuff... I'm not quite so much a theory guy any longer. More lots of RP...

How does one even start to answer those questions... I feel like there's a severe lack of context. I mean, 'there' refers to a location, normally. So what location? Do we consider an arbitrary point in space (because really, is one point in space any more special than another?)? Or do we generalize to all reality? Does that make this a discussion on what reality is?

Have a look at that big pile of pages that Colonel Ross gives to Cap Team Cap! Kobold King has it. He has a movie coming in 2018.

Quick Fix Game 11: Cultists in a Snowstorm
Haelbarde replied to Mailliw73's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Cycle 3: Missing Persons Meallin sighed. No one had seen Lord Tekiel for over an hour now. Two hours alone and exposed to the elements was a death sentence in these parts. Must be kayana, that one. He shook his head. “Hey, we’ve got some kayana who’s not checked in yet. Someone should go find him.” He was pleased to see a half a dozen traders volunteer to go look for them. It only took a quarter of an hour, before one of them returned, dragging the body of the poor fool. Lord Ostrich Malescei Tekiel had died of exposure. He waited for another twenty minutes or so for the others to return, but none of them did. Finally, he realized he was going to have to go out there himself, and call them back. Donning his thick winter cloak, he ventured out into the elements. He started out by following the grove marks made by the body of Lord Tekiel being dragged. After ten minutes without seeing another soul, he doubled back, only to find a corpse on his way back. It was Hellscythe. The man’s neck was cut, and on the snow beside him the words ‘Filthy cultist’ were scrawled in the man’s only blood. He quickly inspected the body, but sadly found no evidence to incriminate the man. At least they were finally doing something about the problem. Meallin turned from the sight of Hellscythe’s body, only to see a cloaked figure standing not ten yards away, on a short hill.. Where did he come from? He began to walk up the hill towards the figure. At the top he stopped, confused. Where did he go? Meallin took a short step forwards, searching for any place the trader might have hidden, and nearly stepped on a body. He knelt beside Claan, worried, but was relieved to find a pulse. He’d only been knocked out, not killed. With a grunt, he hoisted Claan to his shoulder and continued back to the outpost. After Claan was brought inside and warmed, he woke, though he didn’t have much to tell. “There was a scuffle of some sort behind me,” he said. “Someone said, ‘goodbye’, directly behind me. I didn’t even know there was anyone there. Before I could even turn around, I was knocked out, I think.” Meallin frowned. “Well, at least you’re not dead. We should be grateful for that, I suppose.” Maybe that Jindo soldier saved him. Finally getting back to the outpost, he found not one but three messages graffitied on opposite walls. One at least looked like poetry, another just looked like some weird advertising, with the last just being gibberish. “I swear, if I find who wrote those messages…” Kolo Kayana, What a wonderful phrase, Kolo Kayana, Ain't no passin' craze. It means no worries, for the rest of my days, It's a problem free philosophy... Kolo Kayana! Hello fellows, you may call me Ookla. I wish to help vanquish those who would kill us. For this purpose, I suggest looking more closely at those with names that begin with C. If 'Ookla save us' is posted by 10 different people in this cycle, I will reveal myself. Hellscythe was lynched. He was a Seon Holder! Lord Ostrich Malescei Tekiel(ostrichofevil) died of inactivity. They were a Regular Trader! Claan was attacked, but didn’t die! Well the Law in this case I think has to do with publically registering super heroes. It's fairly obvious Tony'd be all for that (end of Iron Man 1, after all), and while you'd think Cap might also normally be on board, with Bucky...? I'm hoping we get a big Agents of Shield tie-in, Winter Soldier style.

Yup! But I never made an Introduction Post when I first joined. I figured it'd be a nice way to celebrate my 1000th post. -
Well, the Surface Pro 4 keyboards are compatible with the Surface Pro 3, as far as I'm aware. So if you purchased the Pro 3, you could match it with a Pro 4 Type keyboard.

What's your criteria for the 'feel of the keyboard'? Also, if you're interested in the Pro 4, but it's a bit pricey, have you looked at the Pro 3? They're going to be cheaper, and will likely have discounts if they're trying to clear them out. Also, at least from the Microsoft online store, you should be able to get a 10% discount as a student (plus, shipping is free).

Haelbarde replied to Silverblade5's topic in General Discussion
Because I feel that this wasn't actually answered properly, just going to jump in here and comment: The Romans crucified Jesus (Matthew 27:27,35), yes. But the Jews laid claim to his death (Matthew 27:20,25), with the person authorizing the crucifixion wanted to distance himself from it as much as possible (Matthew 27:24) while still pleasing the Jews. But yes... there is some warped logic that gets thrown around... And you'd think that we should have gotten over making things up about, or blaming things on, the Jews. Not sure what I could say that would be of any use, Delightful, so I'll just say we're all here for you if you need it. -
Should I read this series? (No spoilers please)
Haelbarde replied to Plaeggs's topic in The Wheel of Time
The only books I had to wait for were the Brandon Sanderson ones. The thing to be aware of is that they can be slow. If you pick up the first book and get a few chapters in, push through it. I found the first couple chapters incredibly boring. Nothing at all was happening. But then once it finally started, the rest of the book was great. Re: dragging of the series. Either book 7 or book 8, I skipped the middle two thirds almost completely. I basically read the first few sentences every few chapters, and if anything jumped out as confusing, I flicked through the previous chapter to work it out. Once the starts of the chapters started getting interesting again, I read the subsequent chapters, and the climax was great. But I don't feel like I missed anything important, even with skipping stacks of the book. But apart from that book, I enjoyed the series, and don't regret having read the books. So basically, give the first book a shot, see how you go. They're not for everyone, but unless you try, you're not going to know.- 15 replies

Hey o/ Greetings! The names Haelbarde, and I figure that finally getting around to making an intro post is a good use of my thousandth post. If it's going to be late, may as well be fashionably so. The first Sanderson book I read was The Way of Kings. I'd finally finished the last published WoT book at the time, and it was about then that I heard about RJ's death, and that Sanderson would be finishing off the series. I also heard that Sanderson had just published a massive book of his own. And so I read it, and enjoyed it, but didn't think about it much more than that. Fast forward a year or so, and I was wondering if it had a sequel yet, and decided to reread it. I enjoyed the book just as much the second time, and this time I decided to look into the author, and see what else he'd written. Think it was around then that I joined the Shard. I'm thinking I read Mistborn next, and then Alloy of Law (though before actually reading WoA and HoA, though I'd already spoiled myself on the major plot points), because I remember being fascinated by Kurk's posts on time bubbles and FTL. I went inactive for a time, joining up over at the MBI, before coming back in the months leaI think I posted a bit in the Cosmere theories and hung around a bit till WoR's release, at which point I went dark to avoid spoilers, but didn't really come back. Until I did when I joined Sanderson Elimination. Which has been incredibly fun, even if I've not done a good job of winning or surviving any games. I've also been playing Wyrmhero's Heirs to the Final Empire forum game, and recently joined the Steel Ministry Roleplay site. So there's a rough picture of my Shard history!

Alright, thanks guys! Think I've got that straight in my head now!
