  1. The words are for the path to being a radient. Surgebinding requires a nahel bond only.
  2. I think that with the first ideal, it is something they have to live. He does not seem to fully grasp it until after his meeting with Hoid. Kal does say the words though, repeatedly, as he is trying to figure Things out. I am guessing Galivar figured them out, Dalinar is close. Perhaps in WoR we shall see the others speak or think the words.
  3. Recreance? Or the fall of old vorin ism?
  4. A. True. Plus we find out that Tanavast was shocked by the spren creating radiants in imitation of the Heralds. B. Dalinar told Adolin to keep his blade as mist. So, sounds right that it would be one or the other. My bet is on cognitive realm. C. Yup. D. Szeth's lashings do not work in plate, so it stands to reason that Honorblade abilities can not function in plate. This seems to indicate that plate was not created by honor. If the blades and plate were created by a shardic being, and odium does not share power! then cultivation seems the correct answer. +1 The only thing that could undermine this is if the spren created plates and blades themselves through their nahel bonds.
  5. A pair of what?*cue drumroll*
  6. Classic misdirection. The real villain is Yalb. He pinches Jasnah in the rear, she turns him into a pillar of flames, boat sinks. On a semi serious note, I think Jasnah and Shallan will get separated. Jasnah will travel and find herself trapped on solid land in the cognitive realm and have to go beg some stormlight off a spren to get out, Shallan, meanwhile, will be rein acting the scene from titanic with Yalb as she floats off into the sunset on her bedroom door and he sinks to the ocean's depths. (Cue emotional music).
  7. If parshmen were immortal, then the parshendi would not have to struggle to find new forms, they would remember them. Keep in mind that the parshendi had only recently discovered new forms and had only had access to dull form since they fled from their dark gods. This means that parshmen can reproduce in forms other than mate form. Maybe it is just not as effective, like war form trying to paint.
  8. Maybe it is death spren. I do not think anyone except the person who is about to die can see them. Maybe his blood weakness means he could die at any moment. Meh. 34 more days
  9. The only things spren related that standout in those chapters is blood being soulcast and Syl flitting between tents looking for Kaladin.
  10. I always thought atmospheric pressure was referring to the passage where the storm father tells Kaladin that people no longer "rode" the storms.
  11. Maybe the smart half of her bonded spren?
  12. The only highstorm between when we last saw Shen in WoK and first see Shen in WoR is the one where Dalinar discovers that the Almighty died, after that we have Shen eating more and getting tattooed. It should also be noted that Shen is now free and no longer a slave, so maybe that impacts how he acts even in slave form.
  13. @cheese ninja The more I think about that quote, the more I think it is Dalinar that raises his hand and he does so to break up the fight between Kaladin and Amaram.
  14. It is because of how the shard blades work. On living organisms they blur as they pass through killing the spiritual link. Think of it like a change in state like water can be solid, liquid, or gas. They shift into the spiritual realm and hit the spiritual link, but leave the physical untouched. Once the person, chasmfiend, etc. is dead, the blades can cut the flesh just like any other inanimate object.Shardplate is already inanimate so the shard blade hits it on the physical plane rather than passing through it. This is not enough in itself, otherwise even normal plate mail would stop a blade. Because shardplate is heavily infused unlike normal plate mail, it blocks the blade. As a living organism, Kaladin could infuse himself with the full power of a highstorm making himself impervious to surgebinding that effects his physical body and it would still not stop a shard blade. The shard blade when it meets flesh would shift into the spiritual realm and kill his soul's link to his body leaving his heavily infused physical body soulless and, as such, dead. *it is my understanding that infusing is the mode of investiture on Roshar.
  15. Bah, flash. Will view it on different machine later
  16. Stormlight heals physical damage. A shard blade is spiritual damage. It is possibles the regrowth as an ability will heal a shard blade wound on a limb like Feruchemical gold can, but that is not the same as someone holding in a lot of stormlight while getting hit by a shard blade since the blade does not hit flesh. Shardplate functions as a blade blocker specifically because it is not alive and is heavily infused.
  17. To predict the future is of the void-bringers. And you left out Eshonai. She was there as well. And the bodyguard. T-something.
  18. Most likely Szeth claimed a thing to be true in direct opposition to the religious beliefs of the Shin religious leaders. Specifically, that the voidbringers are real and a desolation is coming.
  19. I think Amaram will redeem himself by protecting Kaladin/Dalinar from Szeth and dying in the process. I think Kaladin will bury the secret of how Amaram got his plate and blade, then speak the words of the third ideal. Afterword, Szeth will make another attempt at Dalinar, Kaladin will beat him down and take his blade away from him and bond it. Szeth will cease to be truthless and wander the world bereft of hope, hating himself for the things he did in the name of honoring his oaths. What I want to see is Amaram exposed to Dalinar and being shamed into giving up his shards.
  20. You win. +1 Shen is not a spy. If he were, being that parshendi can communicate across distance, then Eshonai would have known for a fact that the humans had surge binders and her friend would not have had to convince her of the fact. This means that their spies infiltrated the parshmen slave groups.
  21. Exactly!
  22. My worry is that Szeth will come for Dalinar, see a plated up Renarin and think it is Dalinar in his plate.
  23. @colby Danlan is a woman of the highest standards and Adolin is a blackguard of the highest order who thrives on manipulating innocent damsels only to toss them away when they no longer amuse him. Fie! Fie, I say upon your ill mannered display! Why I have half a mind to give you a sound thrashing. Fortunately for you acts of physical violence are ever so tiring and I will need all of my strength to weave my cats fur into a cardigan.
