The KR Tried to Prevent New Surgebinders
Swimmingly replied to Swimmingly's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm saying that the REASON the recreance happened was to prevent Surgebinding and thus a new desolation. The KR were doing what Nalan/Darkness is doing today - trying to shut down Surgebinding, for whatever reason. -
It's Zahel, and yes. He is Vasher. Congrats on picking that up without help, I didn't realize until reading the forums.

My theory is based on these things: Darkness has to have a reason for killing Surgebinders. He is affiliated with the remnants of the Skybreakers. The KR did not simply kill themselves - presumably, that would sever the Nahel bond and release the spren. If it didn't, then spren would not Surgebind, as death would become not just a possibility but a certainty. The Shards are dead spren. Dead spren cannot make new Surgebinders. Ergo, making Shardblades would prevent Surgebinders. So, I theorize that the KR created Shardblades with the express purpose of killing spren and preventing new Surgebinders from forming. The spren may have even recognized this, and allowed it, even though it would kill them. Furthermore, I theorize that Syl was the spren of a Radiant who took a different route - she/he committed suicide, releasing Syl, instead of making her into a Shardblade. This is based on her subtle changes of appearance when looking at herself, and her hints that she was the bondspren of a different Surgebinder at some point.

I'm sorry, but Kal is just a whole new level of awesome above Shallan at this point. Glyphs materialize from Stormlight when he lands. He uses Lashings instinctively, while Shallan still has to put effort into it. That reminds me, anyone have any idea what a Lightweaver could do to break their bond?

Szeth's Unique Aquisition (SPOILERS!!!!!!)
Swimmingly replied to Swimmingly's topic in Stormlight Archive
That was kind of a Cosmere bonus, I think. Though I can imagine Hoid trying out witty pickup lines on a god just for the lulz. -
[Full Book Spoilers] Szeth's Unique Experience
Swimmingly replied to BloodShard's topic in Stormlight Archive
No. Returned are a very specific thing of Nalthis. They are returned, with a gift of prophecy and healing, by Endowment. Szeth was just healed after having his spine sliced with a Shardblade. -
Theory on Summoning a Shardblade
Swimmingly replied to Glaring at the Survivor's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think the Plate is manifested by the Surgebinder rather than the spren. -
Makes me wonder, how the heck are these letters delivered?

A certain person who hasnt showed up yet (spoilers)
Swimmingly replied to lordofsoup's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah...but the dude is dead. Maybe he's stuck in the Cognitive? If so, he'll probably meet Jasnah at some point. -
I think you can, actually. It's just impractical. Shardblades are individual weapons - dual wielding gigantic swords would be incredibly difficult, and they're priceless.

So I just got my brand new copy of Words of Radiance, and I was leaning against my bookcase to read it. I guess I jostled it a little too much, because another book fell down and hit the one on my lap. My poor copy of Words of Radiance was split right down the middle; the spine was totally cracked. In my abject dismay, I picked up the book that had plummeted from above and regarded it in simmering hatred. Do you know what book it was? Why, WoRbreaker of course.

The SPOILERS REDACTED Leakage (spoilers abound)
Swimmingly replied to shdwfeather's topic in Stormlight Archive
I guess a fighting style that has you giving people your weapon in the hopes that they'll be unable to control it has some problems, huh? -

New information on Shardblade combat (full WoR spoilers)
Swimmingly replied to Tortellini's topic in Stormlight Archive
I wonder why none of Dal's visions from tWoK had KR using that tactic? -
Wait... but then, shouldn't the Blade be instant, not "ten heartbeats away"? Maybe she just assumes?

Long Game 3: Blackwater Village
Swimmingly replied to Peng the Just's topic in Sanderson Elimination
No, yells Lents from the rooftop, totally making his stealthy perch entirely useless, a dagger would do it. You can kill a pewter-burner with a dagger... I should know. His clockwork armor bristles, blades sliding from every joint. It looks painful to move in that thing now.- 739 replies
