Long Game 76: At the Forests of Madness
Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Presumably because using the Crossbow carries a very distinct possibility of death. And if I got voted out before using the Crossbow, the elims could get their hands on it.- 892 replies

This... is very true. It gives me great joy to eliminate those pesky villagers. Also, for the general knowledge of the village, I figured I should let everyone know that I've got Silver Bones. Just to warn y'all that it's going to be a while before I die.- 892 replies

But aside from the NK thing, which I can only say is unfortunate for me, everyone knows that I really don't like sharing info. Especially early game, before we can be confident that there's enough to actually be able to piece together anything useful. Also, why would elim!me delay stating my N1 action to begin with? It's not as if thinking up a fake action takes several hours or anything. And in retrospect, I'm not sure I'd share my N1 action if we could replay things. It didn't help the village to know what I'd done, which means all it did was help the elims get a better idea of who might have a useful role.- 892 replies

See, this is precisely why it doesn’t make sense for me to be elim. I’m the sort of player who would likely get scanned nearly every cycle. Also, do you really expect me, the champion of PM safety, to claim to Ash, who is not confirmed good? Especially with a redirect action going around, that’s as good as giving the elims another kill (if Ash had been elim).- 892 replies

I did send in a kill with a Crossbow. Illwei was one of my top suspicions, like I mentioned during the day. I'm not sure if the elims killed her, or if they just didn't send in a kill because of all the action scans flying around, but that's that.- 892 replies

Long Game 76: At the Forests of Madness
Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Okay, so looking at Ash and Illwei as promised, I definitely am more suspicious of Illwei than of Ash. Actually I feel like Ash played C1 very similar to how I often do. An early vote on someone not saying much, and he stuck to his guns when Randby became the final choice. Illwei, on the other hand, ran for the hills, so to speak, when the Randby train picked up. Both Illwei and Books mentioned that they were fairly sure Randby would flip village, but neither of them offered up a serious alternative. Basically feels like an insincere attempt at trying to get village cred. So I'm fine having my vote where it is now, but I'd also be down for an Illwei grinch as well. Or Books, who still hasn't really given us much to work with, except for that one post which I don't like.- 892 replies

I guess I’m going to vote on Jondesu. I don’t like that he hasn’t really responded to the pressure on him except to try and discount the players voting for him. This is sort of a placeholder vote, since I was busy and still haven’t looked at stuff from Ash and Illwei yet. I’ll be back in 3 hours or so and hopefully have more to say. I just wanted to have a vote out to prompt some discussion in the meantime. @PizzaPower55, for now I’d suggest ignoring the majority of the rules and just pick someone you think is suspicious to vote on. If you don’t find anyone suspicious, see if you agree with reasoning someone has given. And if that fails, vote someone at random. Any of those things will be helpful.- 892 replies

I don't think I've given enough thought to the distribution of this game to make a super educated comment here, but whatever. I guess the risk is assuming we have 3 mechanically confirmed roles in the game. Cause 2 of them claiming would probably be worse than none claiming. There could also be some weird distribution with multiple extra lives and an elim Crossbow or something. But this is definitely something to keep in mind if we misgrinch again today.- 892 replies

Yeah, I think that’s enough to remove my vote from Azmine for now. I suppose it’s possible that e!Azmine just never thought to ask any teammates about night posting, or that Azmine is just lying (which would be odd to do here), but that’s not worth messing with D2. Bother. Maybe everyone should vote on me so I can get upset and then accidentally start a train on an elim. I think I’m going to take a closer look at Ash and Illwei and see what I feel about them. Kinda wish more people were talking though.- 892 replies

Azmine didn't have a final vote in last cycle, went insane (which must have some kind of explanation behind it), and, as Matrim pointed out, hasn't shown up yet. Edit: To clarify further, I was looking at the list of players that didn't vote last cycle. Azmine was the last person on that list for me to address. Also, @Matrim's Dice, could you either clarify that super-village read or link me to a post where you have already done so? C2 seems rather early for that sort of thing.- 892 replies

Okay, we killed someone quiet, and lost a poet. @PizzaPower55, @Flyingbooks, @Dannex, y'all were pretty quiet last cycle, and didn't vote. Who would you say is a better option for a grinch today than yourselves? I don't really want to burn a second cycle of voting on a low active player, but that doesn't mean a lack of contribution doesn't make you suspicious. I'm not super sure I agree with Mat's line of reasoning on Jondesu, but I do buy (for now) that Mat is honestly looking for elims. I think a late vote during D1 can flip either way, and at least some vote is better than no vote. I do agree that the comment about the number of elims voting for Randby is a bit odd, but I also know that villagers like to try and use this sort of reasoning sometimes. Quinn in LG!Kas comes to mind. Of course, I tried to make similar assumptions in the last LG and almost got burned pretty badly as a result. I guess, aside from the inactives, the person I'd like to hear most from is Azmine. I'd also like to hear more from Jondesu than a retaliatory vote on someone that seems village to me.- 892 replies

Long Game 76: At the Forests of Madness
Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I don’t regret killing off Randby, and this is a meta issue that has been frequently discussed. During D1, it is far easier for active players to gather suspicion upon themselves, regardless of alignment. But if we kill them off immediately, we lose the potential further information/analysis that they will do. We also keep the thread more active, which just makes the game more fun. For your points about elims voting for Randby, perhaps, except there will always be a grinch. So it really only makes sense to suspect Randby voters if you make a further assumption, such as the elims wanting to actively participate in the grinch, or that one of the players that had a couple of votes earlier on is elim and the team was worried about them dying instead. It is possible that by the end of our D1, not killing anyone could have been a viable option, if allowed by the rules. Given that it isn’t (and given the existence of secret votes), I think Randby was a good alternative.- 892 replies

I count votes by the vote count, so since the vote count didn't count your vote, I don't count your vote in my count. And now that I've outvoted you, it might be time to vote you out.- 892 replies

Hmm, there's honestly not a whole to to recap. Quinn and I went at each other a bit (this happened pretty early on, if you want to read it), which among other things contributed to a spread of votes on a bunch of people. Then Illwei and I independently decided to go after Randby, and most everyone seems fine(ish) with that.- 892 replies

Araris Valerian replied to Elandera's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Elim!me tends to be better at finding elims (I'm working on changing this from both ends), is generally more self-consistent, and probably gets more annoyed at being voted on for bad reasons. Or maybe is more annoyed by flawed arguments in general. I haven't lost an elim game for quite some time now (SE meta right now is skewed a bit towards elims, partly because of activity issues). The game that comes to mind involved basically my entire team getting scanned as having used the elim kill. Because for some reason we decided moving the kill between players made sense. I will say that regardless of my alignment I tend to hover in a vague grey area of suspicion for most the the game prior to my impending and often violent death.- 892 replies

But if everyone abstains because they don't have strong reads, then how do we get strong reads to base votes off of in the first place? (This doesn't quite hold, since several people have voted, but the general point still stands, I believe).- 892 replies
