Szeth needs 10 Heartbeats to summon his Blade, but that might be a conceptual thing. Only dead Radiantblades need 10 heartbeats to summon, and that is to partially revive the spren by syncing it to your own heartbeat. It seems strange that the Honourblades, of which the Radiantblades are copies, would need 10 heartbeats to summon. I disagree on the first part. One is about actively using it, either through use of surges or through healing etc, the other is about holding and containing it. It might only be a slight nuance, but I feel like it should count even so.

True, but there are in-world reasons as to why Stormfather is confused with Jezrien, such as the latter being the herald of the Windrunners, who claim the winds.

Ok, time for the Listmaker to swoop in. Let's see if we can't List the discrepancies between Kaladin and Szeth: Szeth consumes Stormlight much faster than Kaladin. Szeth can hold Stormlight much less efficiently than Kaladin. Szeth gets his abilities from Jezrien's Honourblade; Kaladin gets his abilities through a Nahel Bond with an Honourspren. Presumably, Szeth cannot bond Squires. Szeth needs ten heartbeats to summon his Blade, Kaladin needs none. This might not be inherent of the Honourblade, but due to Szeth's perception. Anything else we can think of? Edit: Added #5.

[Theory] It has been foreshadowed that Adolin will be a Radiant.
Aether replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
This seems a bit too convoulted for Brandon, though. He's all about ridiculously deep and subtle foreshadowing, but not to the point of lying to his readers. As far as I am concerned, if it said that he hear Zahel - as opposed to hearing something that sounded like him - then that's what he heard. Also, Occam's Razor. -
The WoB says that all Heralds were either seen on-screen (figurative sense, obviously) or mentioned in the Way of Kings, counting the Prelude. I'll see if I can find it.

Reviving a dead topic: Szeth's Shardblade is an Honourblade
Aether replied to Aether's topic in Stormlight Archive
I suppose you're referring to this one? I remembered it as referring to Nightblood as similar to a Shardblade, but you're right, this opens up for Hoid's blade being the third type, if it is indeed an Awakened blade in the first place.- 128 replies

Reviving a dead topic: Szeth's Shardblade is an Honourblade
Aether replied to Aether's topic in Stormlight Archive
Did we ever reach a consensun on what three types of Shardblades we saw in the way of Kings, by the way? I suggest that it is 1. Honourblades, 2. Dead Radiantblades and 3. Radiantblades. The first we saw in Szeth's PoV chapters, the second all over the place, and the third in two of Dalinar's visions ("Starfalls" and "Highway to the Sun").- 128 replies

Woho! Just reached Spinner myself! Edit: By the way, Brandon has reached the rank of "Most Ancient". He's currently got 2'520 Reputation Point.

My guess would be yes, though they wouldn't necessarily get the quirks, such as a Windrunners ability to bond more and more powerful squires, or a Lightweaver's mnemonic abilities.
-
Rereading that passage, Kaladin is definitely actively directing his Stormlight. It remains to be seen, though if this is something that is unique to him, or if all KR (or specific Orders) can do this with enough training (and/or talent).

I did a quick search, but found no reference to it in this Thread. Anyway, here's the quote, though he doesn't seem to be talking about Roshar itself other than in a figurative way: IMO, It sounds more like he is talking about the events going around on Roshar, much of it being manipulated on a global scale by the different secret factions, such as the Ghostbloods, the Sons of Honour, the Diagram etc.

I noticed that as well, but I think it might have just been his instincts talking. The chaotic and fast pace of combat can typically be difficult to write faithfully, and I think the most difficult think to convey is instinctual behaviour. Imagine Adolin only barely noticing in the corner of his eye the shadow of Szeth's Shardblade through the cloth. His brain doesn't really have time to consider what it is ("Hey! A Shardblade is coming from that direction! Better duck!"), but his combat reflexes permits him to react instinctively. At least that is how I interpret that particular group of italic letters. But then again, Dalinar had similar experiences (though not really related to combat movements) during the Way of Kings, and he was at this point probably communicating with Stormfather to some extent. Maybe we should look for similar happenings to Adolin?

Cognitive conceptions does influence how the magic in the Cosmere works, but I don't think it would grant Kaladin special powers in this particular case. If he had access to the Progression surge, he might be be able to do some fancy stuff with it, thinking of himself as quite the capable healer and with medical knowledge far beyond average, but Stormlight healing is a passive ability of which he has little to no control (at least not currently). His tenacity and survivor instinct might influence how fast he can heal himself, but I don't think that is enough to let him invent himself new and unique abilities.

Your reasoning is sound, but the Vorin mythology has the notion that the Tranquiline Halls and Damnation are separate places. Your suggested interpretation is really cool, but I think the knowledge of it would have been likely to have survived in that form were it to have been the case. "We must push the enemy out of Damnation and reform our lost paradise!" I like your idea, but I think our current knowledge of Roshar's history makes it unlikely to be the correct one.

I explained this in my original post: Until I get an exact date for the individual characters, I'll continue to assume that they were all born on Lightday. I should probably make an exception for Kaladin now, though, since we know he was born in the latter half of the year.

We have an in-world indication that Braize is an old word for Damnation. Ashyn, or some other unknown planet, is a more likely candidate for the Tranquiline Halls.

I haven't read the whole Thread, so I ight be repeating what has already been said, but allow me to point out that she still has a Flash-back book. While she could die before that, as Brandon has sad would be possible for either of the FB characters, but that won't be before book four, and it seems difficult to keep her "alive" in the minds of the readers for an entire book if she is dead already. No, I think that she survived the fall and that she'll stay alive at least until the ending of the third book.

Warm blooded, rather. It was done in anger and frustration, not cold calculation.

It is also worth pointing out that that particular WoB is highly open to interpretation. We've seen Kaladin wear a piece of a Shardplate, but he might not count as a Full Radiant yet, it might not count as it is not a Plate of his own, there might be a fundamental difference between inherited Plate and Radiant Plate (as with Blades), or it might not count because he wasn't wearing a full Plate, and not properly, etc. Brandon can often be shifty, but I feel like that particular quote is not good for anything else than dismissing Kaladin's stunt in the arena as not counting.

As Kurkistan pointed out on another Thread, though, it is of note that they do have a "concept" of seasons, even though their usage of the it has little to do with how it is "properly" used. This is likely because of Cosmere-shenanigans and yaddi-yadda. EDIT: @potato, to elaborate, what they call "seasons" is not what we would recognize as such. As Weiry pointed out, Roshar has no Axial tilt, so under normal circumstances, the planet would have no "seasons" at all. However, the Highstorms have the peculiar effect of being able to manipulate the local climate at different and unpredictable times of the year. The little regularity there is are focused around long and lighter storms during the "winter", culminating in the lull in Highstorms around Lightday at the beginning of the year called "the Weeping", and short but stronger storms during the "summer", culminating in a particularly powerful one in the middle of the year. EDIT 2: Found Kurkistan's post.

“I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right.”
Aether replied to Mikanium's topic in Stormlight Archive
Indeed. If Elhokar was an evil tyrant, wantonly mucking about with and abusing his powers, then I believe Kaladin could have killed him without a second thought. But in Elhokar's case, as Kaladin came to realise, he really tries. He wants to be good, but he is just currently blatantly incapable in his rule, which is not the same as being evil, and to a Windrunner, that makes all the difference. On a side-note, Elhokar might actually be one of my favourite characters in the Words of Radiance. True, I consider both Kaladin and Adolin to be among the best characters I've ever read and will always be my true favourites, but Brandon has developed the ability to create really deep and interesting side characters. I site Gaz, Renarin, Bluth and Elhokar as examples of this. The latter showed a surprisingly potent insight into his shortcomings towards the end of the book, which would be the first step to get himself out of the mess he currently is. I have great hopes for him for the coming books. -
I voted for both of the Stormlight Archive books and the Emperor's Soul. While I like the rest of his books, I don't feel like they touched me as these three did. I am annoyed that I cannot down-vote the Secret. EDIT: Make that most of the top ten books.

How do you know this? There are obvious differences in power level between Kaladin and Szeth, but how do we know that Szeth cannot heal from a Shardblade wound and that he could with the right Honourblade?

As long as Odium is invested on Roshar, I don't think it would be impossible for him to make Odiumblades. However, just for clarification, Odium was subjected to the Oathpact, rather than being a willing part of it:
