The Pahn Kahl are also the enemies of the current Sanderson Elimination and it is getting intense! I hate me some Pahn Kahl. But yeah. Up to Oldblood now. Which is pretty obscure, only mentioned a couple times on Roshar... Hope we get more info soon. They are apparently above the Cobalt Guard, so I hope they are not problematic, could be a problem for some of our favorite SA characters...

Question for Brandon (this weekend)
GreyPilgrim replied to Asha'man Logain's topic in Events and Signings
Yeah this should probably to the Events Signings and Stalking thread, but I have no power to move it there. Have you taken a look through the Ultimate List of Questions thread? There are plenty of good ones there. My question from that thread a couple weeks ago: Can one use Elsecalling as a method of Worldhopping? Thanks! -
Jasnah's spren, the little man. Because I can. And no one else will. But really, I hope we get to see more of him in the future.

Welcome, Shardmancer! I also like Malazan, but as Tulir says it gets a really mixed reaction. It takes a lot of attention and focus. I also like the Gentlemen Bastards series by Scotty Lynch. You may want to check out our Other Books forum for all your non-Sanderson discussion needs! There are a couple threads there about favorite books.

Grim was worried by the night's events. At this point, he was certain that the Hallandrens were not the enemy. He, like many else, had begun to suspect the Pahn Kahl, who had attempted to revolt against the Hallandren government recently. Why had they returned? Why were they attempting to sabotage the peace meetings? It had been a full day, virtually everyone in D'Relin making their way to the square around which were the Green Potato and the Red Salmon. The votes had flown like wildfire, changing directions in ways no one could have predicted. Grim had never been fond of Swimim, but he did not believe the man had deserved to die. He was now even angrier. A valuable Awakener had been lost. They would need them to resist the Pahn Kahl. Unity was now the name of the game. And a difficult game it was. Grim had mostly spectated during the day, occasionally stepping in when things got out of hand. People were too eager for blood these days, as far a he was concerned. Clement had been happy for the business; people had come in and out throughout the day, using drink and food to fuel their bloodlust. Grim had not let on that he had seen Elo in the crowd. Old grudges needed to be left now. They faced a much greater problem. Walking home, Grim made a quick decision. If he came to be certain that anyone, Idrian or Hallandren, was not who they said they were, he would cast his vote for them. Such was the way of things. He would do his best to stay cool, however. The fire of everyone's hearts would only cause greater destruction. Does Nalthis even have cows? Also, I just want to say that in terms of RP as far as I am concerned, Grim didn't for Chide. Grim is only now willing to kill, and only those he believes are Pahn Kahl. My votes and reasoning are obviously not exactly the same as his.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
GreyPilgrim replied to Quiver's topic in Entertainment Discussion
The show is ok. I don't watch a lot of TV, so I don't have that high standards, but I will repeat Awesomeness that the characters don't really resonate, other than Coulson and maybe Fitz. The last few have been a bit better, but still not amazing. The Deathlok plot has a lot of potential. The real issue is that the show is having trouble keeping up the momentum, rarely having episodes in consecutive weeks since the second half began. I think it's worth another try if you've given up on it. It's interesting enough while you're watching it, and I have heard that TWS will really have a big impact on it. Still haven't seen it yet, though. -
Welcome to the forums, bdoble97! I don't think this has been discussed in detail (I could be wrong; I didnt finish the book until a few weeks ago so missed thousands of posts about the book). You're right, Brandon doesn't often put in little details without reason. There have been some theories that Adolin is a Surgebinder, which if that's the case he may sense the dead spren in his Blade in a different way than normal people do and without knowing it be trying to reach out to it. IIRC, he doesn't talk to it before going into battle or while fighting, but your idea is still good. If he does turn out to be a Surgebinder, then this will merely be placed with the evidence of that retroactively. This could lead to a theory that Surgebinders can sense the spren in dead Shardblades. Interestingly enough, since we have WoB that Dalinar has been a Surgebinder since before he formally bonded the Stormfather, it could be that he would have begun to sense something as well if he hadn't given up his Shardblade at the end of WoK. You don't believe that it was actually Nale, or that it was actually Nightblood? Because I'm pretty sure we have confirmation of both now.

Does it though? What Awesomeness said casts some doubt. I do think it was 160 though.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
GreyPilgrim replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
That's what's so nice about 17th Shard! Many online communities are rife with rotspren. And also, you know you're a Sanderfan when you laugh when someone (also a user on a site devoted to him, posting in a thread about when you know you are a fan of his) refers to someone as a rotspren and you laugh. -
I don't know... Vin's face on Well of Ascension is pretty messed up... I wonder if the pages are being reformatted to be more like a YA book as well. Tor hardcovers usually have about 40 lines per page with pretty small print. YA books usually have about 33 lines per page. These books could be almost 700 pages in hardcover, which is daunting for those who usually read YA novels...

Grrrr... I missed my transition to Oldblood. I was Cobalt Guard at 159, and went up before I got to the site again. Oh well. I am pretty confident it happened at 160 though.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
GreyPilgrim replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Or when this happens and you think of what Brandon character could have said it. And also when you want to downvote someone in real life for being a jerk. (Of course this never actually happens here. I may have given two or three down votes my entire time here.) -
[Crackpot Theory] Source of the Word "Nahel"
GreyPilgrim replied to Confused's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah... I think your label of crackpot theory is probably accurate. Cool idea. That makes me wonder, if so, what does this root mean? We also known that the name Nahel bond preceded Nohadon, so they may not be closely related, but cool idea. This sounds like a good one to add to the Ultimate List. -
I believe it was just Gaz he was referring to. He often said he thought his disappearance might spawn significant discussion. Obviously, Gas just deserted. So I don't think he could have been referring to Taln.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
GreyPilgrim replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you immediately upon reading this think of all the cosmere words your own phone autocorrects. -
I'm not going to retract my vote at this point, and I would still like to see Swimim defend himself, but unless everyone jumps on someone else pretty soon, he's basically gone. This is kind of his last chance. I hope he pops up for some final haikus.
-
They also sound a lot more awesome than their more simplistic counterparts.
-
What Argent said. It could well be Brandon trolling us. I kind of wonder why he has come out with this so soon if it actually isn't Taln. Maybe he's sparing us some faulty theorizing. Although he seems to have spawned more theorizing than there would normally have been.

When you join a forum devoted to discussing him and his works, posting in a thread about when you know you are a fan of his... -
Odium is a totally legitimate English word. I don't think there is any particular reason Brandon chose it other than that it sounds a lot cooler than Hate for a Shard.
-
This is one I shall keep in mind for now. Your evidence seems sound to me, based on the limited information we have at this point. Also, we know that something is up with Taln. Brandon for all intents and purposes told us that the "Taln" in the books right now is not the real one. If he was murdered, then it is quite possible that something went wrong. He would view what the other Heralds' have done differently, and could even decide to hide or not return as expected because of it. I will keep this theory in mind.
-
Okay. Upon further consideration, I have decided to retract my vote for Bartholomew. Assuming he's telling the truth about his Breath, he seems pretty valuable. I will go for an inactive. At this point I think we have as a group moved past the Idrian vs Hallandren conflict (though our characters may not have yet). Despite his being Idrian, I shall vote for Chide as well. AonarFaileas needs to update the List. I'm too lazy to keep track for myself, but this puts two votes on Chide. I doubt anyone wants another deadlock. The game will never get anywhere if that keeps happening.
-
Of course it doesn't mean that. However, my best guess is the only one I can make. I have personally received nothing directly from any player that hints questionable motives or manipulation, so the only thing I have to go from is what can be read in the threads, based on what others have revealed. Your activity opens you up to suspicion. For now, I stick with my vote. This game really puts a hutring on one's productivity, doesn't it? I have literally been able to get nothing done in the past hour.
-
My key phrase was "from what I can tell". I intentionally excluded Aodan, because as you say we know he is innocent. Cut me some slack, it's my first game. Still struggling to keep up at this point.
