[Disclaimer: I do not want to divert the thread at all, so if you're trying to follow the conversation please ignore this.] I am (obviously) kind of a latecomer to this thread, and it is way too big at this point for me to want to even attempt to read it. Can someone please either post a summary of some of the main ideas that have come out of this discussion in the thread for others like me or send me a PM with the information? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Kasimir. If I ever end up with nothing else to read (which basically never happens) then I may pick it up. I have a feeling that he will post it on his site eventually anyways, since it is just a short story. If I find the anthology in a bookstore I'll probably sit down and consume the story then.
-
Is it worth picking up the anthology for the story? It's not cosmere, and I'm terribly interested in any of the other stories in it, so I'm reluctant to make the purchase.

The thing is, art and creation are the heart of lying. You take what is not and make of it a truth. This is the essence of Lightweaving, from what we have seen so far. A Lightweaver, as stated above, looks into lies and finds the truth in them. It has often been said in our own world that there is a little truth in every lie, and this is true of the Lightweavers. To add to what you said, Pattern said that humans would describe the Cryptics as liespren, but that is not how they see themselves. Before we Sharders were enlightened with the true name of Cryptics, we called them truthspren, based on Shallan's needing to produce a truth in order to Soulcast. Just like the Lightweavers themselves, the Cryptics follow a boundary between truth and lie. Humans would characterize them as liars, but one can clearly see their truthful aspect as well. The Cryptics are just that; cryptic, expressing truth in an indirect, somewhat unclear way that may seem like a lie and may even contain lies. So back to the discussion of the Divine Attributes Creativity and Honesty. Creativity is balance between truth and fiction, as discusses above. Honety is necessary as an Attribute of Shalash (spelled it right!) and the Lightweavers in order to balance out their creativity. Creation can go either way: it can express more of a truth or more of a lie. Thus, Honesty works to keep the Lightweavers in check. If they must be honest, their creations will in the end be honest as well.

I think that the spoiler tag on the title of threads in the WoR subforum is a good idea, if only to prevent those who see the thread titles in the "New Topics" area or doing a New Content search from going to them and getting spoiled. What has been annoying me is people putting threads containing WoR spoilers in the regular Stormlight Archive board, requiring tons of spoiler tags that just get annoying to navigate. The normal board is basically irrelevant right now, except for those who haven't read WoR yet. (And really, how many people here have not yet?)

Write more, Brandon. Brandon! More! Write!

The magic of the Kingkiller Chronicle is not in the magic system itself or even the plot, like it is in Brandon's books, but rather in the sheer beauty of the books themselves, the story, all the thought put into them, and the writing. (Although Rothfuss's magic systems are really cool too. He just doesn't explore them very thoroughly.)

Cosmere Monopoly (Now Cosmere Domination)
GreyPilgrim replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Creator's Corner
I'm not much of a Monopoly player, so I can't be of much help, but this looks like a lot of fun! I'll try to learn and give my input. This will have to become a thing at Brandon's events! Let's hope Peter shows it to him if it gets finished! -
I find it arguable that the amount he has added to the story has actually benefitted the story greatly, per se. WMF, while still excellent, was in my opinion (and that of many others) rather inflated. The story of Kingkiller is not the most plot-centric, being much more focused on character. Rothfuss got a little out of control with the places he took WMF, though, and the book ended up significantly longer than it needed to be.

Poor Chide. He's been on the chopping block three times now. And I've voted for him twice... Not gonna join on against him this time. I am actually leaving on vacation late tomorrow and won't be back for two whole night/day cycles, so I will probably not vote today, only because I won't be able to follow the sway of the game closely enough. Expect a temporary good-bye post sometime tomorrow (somewhat like the one Elo did a bit ago). I will put some effort into it. It should be good.

My theory (not sure if others have made it) is that if Hoid didn't burn the lerasium directly, he is using it as a Hemalurgic spike, evidenced by his saying in the Letter that he protects the element (his lerasium bead) like he protects his own skin.

Hello, Maths! I see you are very well-read! This is a great place to discuss everyone's favorite fantasy novelist! Hope to see you around!
-
Welcome, maxal! Since you're here, I assume you're cosmere-aware? Regardless, I hope to see you around. I also came to Brandon through the Wheel of Time, as did many others. I highly suggest you check out Brandon's other books!

High Imperial is the slang, originally called Eastern Street Slang, that Spook uses in the Mistborn Trilogy, particularly in book 1. In The Alloy of Law era, it is used in official situations, and is referred to as High Imperial.

I don't think it's deserving of negative rank. The same argument can be made for Steel Inquisitor. However I agree that it is somewhat surprising that it is so high up in the rank. As far was we know, the Gatherers are just normal people who do questionable things.

Michael Whelan's Preliminary Art for Words of Radiance
GreyPilgrim replied to Argent's topic in Creator's Corner
I do like the WoR cover as it is, I just have some objections to it, namely that Kaladin is looking at you, not at Szeth. And I really don't like Szeth being on a pile of bodies. It's just too cheesy. But one can mostly ignore that part. Overall I just don't like the WoR cover as much as that of WoK. -
Since I seem to be among those who are under suspicion, I will defend myself. I already said most of what I have to say, so I think I will l just copy that. I will clarify that the one to PM me to sway my decision on Dyrii was Aili, not Jeo, as it seems to be for some people. I hope this is enough justification. Nothing has really changed for me since I posted that.

Michael Whelan's Preliminary Art for Words of Radiance
GreyPilgrim replied to Argent's topic in Creator's Corner
I too prefer colored Kaladin. It doesn't show his face! I would even have that one as the cover if the colors weren't so depressing. The vibrant colors of the storm on the actual cover are miles better. -
What could the second half of Stormlight be?
GreyPilgrim replied to Moash's topic in Stormlight Archive
Brandon used to say that pretty often, but since WoR he has changed the list. Maill got all the confirmed ones correct, so Taravangian could be the last one. However that will only be if Taravangian is a Radiant. As Maill says the last one could be Adolin as well. So it remains to be seen. Personally I would rather see Taravangian than Adolin. -
Michael Whelan's Preliminary Art for Words of Radiance
GreyPilgrim replied to Argent's topic in Creator's Corner
I feel like the art in all of these is better than that of the official cover... All hail Jesus Kaladin! It's better than Rambo Kaladin, at least. I still wish the cover hadn't shown Kaladin's face. Clearly from these Whelan didn't always intend to do so. -
Yep. Basically. I have literally posted over 200 times in the past two weeks. No shame.

Hello, enrika! Which cosmere books have you read?
