  1. Just a few clarifications and reiterations of things people may have missed or I didn't think of. When giving someone a breath during the night send a pm to me saying you are doing so, you can also send a pm to the person to let them know but the pm's should be separate. I'll explain the reasoning behind this if anyone asks I do not require you to include me in pms. There is nothing like uber-tin in this game and my inbox is already getting swamped as is Thanks to those who did, but it isn't necessary. When sending in night orders please do it in one of the following ways (and be consistent across nights): -Send me a new pm titled "Game 4 Night X <characterName> and tell me your night action in there. OR -Post it in the thread I sent you your role in but note the night and post it in blue and in a larger font. eg. "Night 1 Claincy: Narrate" That will just make it much easier for me to keep track of everything and make it less likely that I will miss or forget one of your orders if I read it when I don't have a chance to add it to the spreadsheet. @Joe, anything along the lines of "I'm buying breath" or "I'm entering the lottery" so long as it makes it clear what you are doing. Yes It wasn't initially planned but someone put it in their rp and id decided to roll with it effectively confirming it in the OP of this thread. Thanks guys, have fun The inbox swamping has already begun : P
  2. There is always at least 1. Debating if I should say how many. I can see advantages both ways.
  3. Night 1 : Tension Rising The town was in an uproar following Paxen's murder. There was no doubt that an awakener was responsible and suspicion immediately fell on the Hallandrens. Perhaps they were hoping to gain an upper hand in the negotiations by eliminating the Idrians primary ambassador before the negotiations even began. The Hallendrens, of course, denied the accusations. They wanted this peace just as much as the Idrians, why would they risk it by murdering the Idrian ambassador! There was something else going on here. Tensions rose and some of the locals and new arrivals started loudly declaring their views letting out their anger and suspicion. No specific accusations were made yet, but it would only be a matter of time. A few of the more level-headed Hallendrens and Idrians quietly thought through the situation, trying to work out who could possibly benefit from the murder. Could this be the work of Pahn Kahl operatives? After their failed attempt to eliminate the god King and his wife. As the evening progressed and night approached true accusations started to fly. Aili opened the accusations, “I don't trust Ben, everyone knows the Hallendren priests are awakeners! We should kill him!” Once the accusations had started there was no stopping them. Several different people were accused, Idrians and Hallendrens alike, but as the day drew to a close the suspicions focused around Ben and Thomas, the wanderer who had ambled into town late the day before. As the sun set spreading golden light across the village, Aili, Jeo and Rowan grabbed a bewildered Ben and started dragging him outside, much to the protestations of Wyrm and Elo who still thought Thomas was far more suspicious. They stopped as the reached the exit, blocking the doorway stood Summon, the messenger. “You shall not pass!” he declared. "Unless someone can give a good reason why Thomas has been suspiciously silent in all this, I also nominate him as suspect for the ambassadors death." As the arguing began again Ben slipped free and ran off into the night closely followed by Thomas. Realising their targets had ran off the others stopped arguing and went in search of their beds. The votes: Ben (Edgedancer) : Aili (Mailliw73), Jeo (The only Joe), Rowan (HeroWannabe) Thomas (The Gleeman) : Wyrm (WyrmHero), Elo (el_warko), Summon (Awesomeness Summoned) Very close, but nobody died. Night 1 begins and will end at 22:30 AEST / 12:30 GMT on Tuesday. All Night actions must be in by 10:30 AEST / 00:30 GMT on Tuesday Before anyone asks, yeah, you can create a lifeless using Paxen's body. Edit: A note to new players, if anyone is wondering you can talk during the night cycle.
  4. 30 minutes remaining as of this post. I have the writeup mostly written but you guys keep changing the outcome! : P Edit: And that's time. Writeup will be up in a new thread in a few moments. Please lock this thread Meta.
  5. @Awesomeness & Alvron Confirmed, thanks Now now, I don't upvote people just to discover levels. So instead I upvoted you in advance for your assistance, coincidentally making you a misting and finding the hard boundary It seems logical to me anyway.
  6. The shard of Narration (or storytelling). This shouldn't surprise the people who have interacted with me much here. Telling and creating stories gives you power, the more engaged your audience is the more powerful you become. Initially the powers granted would essentially be lightweaving, though the detail and size of the illusions you could create would increase the more (and better) stories you told. Extremely skilled and experienced Narrators would even be able to give their ideas a tangible physical form. Like, say, Brandon with this shard around
  7. Thanks, is this a hard boundary? I need to check. Sorry : P
  8. Yes, I like that rule All I am going to say is that there could be, but then again there might not be I'm sure that was wonderfully unhelpful.
  9. He's a Steel Inquisitor?! Well dang it, I've added it now, does anyone know when he reached it? Slightly embarrassed that I didn't see that earlier.
  10. @Joe, Sure, I'll do a new thread for each, so long as you don't mind joining them Meta? Just to make certain that everyone is on the right page here I want to reiterate this: 0 breaths = drab 1 breath = normal 2 breaths = 1st heightening 3 breaths = 2nd heightening 4 breaths = 3rd heightening 5 breaths = 4th heightening 6 breaths = 5th heightening 7 breaths = 6th heightening 8 breaths = 7th heightening 9 breaths = 8th heightening 10 breaths = 9th heightening 11+ breaths = 10th heightening Thankyou for your attention, please continue with your scheduled murder.
  11. Correct, though if the errors aren't too serious just ignore them, it's better that way. I like this idea I'll add it to the OP I'll put it here too. PLEASE NOTE: Any player can give someone their breath during the day cycle but they have to announce it publicly in-thread rather than through pm. They also lose their vote for that cycle by doing so. This is correct. And now I need sleep, gnight all.
  12. The night was approaching by the time Paxen approached D'Relin. It was a moderately small village near the border between Idris and Hallendren but even in the growing darkness the bright colours of the buildings blazed out brightly. Paxen frowned as he saw them, he had expected this, but the colours still irked him though not so much as the implications of the meeting place. Choosing a Hallendren town for the negotiations highlighted where Idris stood in these negotiations. Still, Paxen had been sent to ensure peace and that was what he would do. The Hallandren ambassador, Paxen suspected, would have arrived to a great deal of fanfare and ceremony. Paxen arrived quietly with his bodyguard, walking calmly into town and renting a room at the Green potato and retiring to his chamber to consider tomorrows negotiations. The night passed peacefully, but in the morning, when Dainard came to Paxen's rooms in the morning to let him know that breakfast was prepared there was no response. After knocking several times there was still no response and Dainard tentatively opened the door to find Paxen lying on the floor, a Red scarf was wound tightly around his neck and a patch of the floor was grey. Priest Bebid, the main negotiator for the Hallendrens had still not arrived. 13. Everyone should now have their roles, initial writeup will go up in just over an hour. And here, we, go!
  14. I did, the rules for it are in the OP now I'm just randomizing rolls now. Who knows, maybe you will be a monk!
  15. Almost, but not quite. There are an unfortunately small number of cats around. The players in the nation with more players remaining will all get kittens. The others will have to make do with bunnies. The stakes are high! Oh, and I've updated the rules in the thread. Thanks for your input everyone
  16. 30 is doable (and it feels cool having so many players) but more than that is getting a bit too much for most games and there are definite advantages to smaller games as well. @Gamma, that would be awesome. We'll need a few more games to be run first though.
  17. @Peng, good advice. I have posted the updated rules. The game will start shortly now. I will be sending out pm's with roles very soon. Thanks for your list of players Joe, makes things easier. 30 people! This is gonna be a bit crazy, and I like it that way.
  18. OK. Colours of War will begin on Friday at 22:30 AEST (12:30 pm GMT)! I know the time won't suit everyone perfectly , but with that time I should always be available on time to post the writeups and hopefully on time 12 hours before to tell the returned who will die. I will finish clarifying the rules and post all updates to the rules before that time. I'm very excited to get this going Note: The game is still open for signups for another 24 hours. Just in case you know?
  19. I do really appreciate your input. You make a good point regarding roles being used differently to how you expect them, that is a standard game design motive, no matter how carefully you design it the players will always try to do things you never thought of In this particular case chances are that the monk wouldn't delliberately try to expose their own agent, but even if they did or gave an opportunity and the Hallendren's took it and discovered the agent the game isn't neccesarily over for that agent. Because at that point the agent is no more of a danger to the Hallendren's then any ordinary Idrian so they don't have particularly more motive to kill them. Beyond that they now know that the agent isn't a Pahn Kahl, making them a very valuable player for a completely different reason. Instead of being an important player in Idrians vs Hallendrens they are now an equally important player in Pahn Kahl vs everyone Hmm, we almost have these rules nailed down satisfactorally, a good thing as it will be starting soon.
  20. I do see your point. Though the identities of the agents means almost nothing to the Pahn Kahl as they are honestly better for the Pahn Kahl to leave around than normal people with an equal quantity of breath as they cause more dissension. The more important point though is that for the Hallendren to find the Idrian agent in that manner would require them all, Hallendren & Pahn Kahl, to agree to switch their votes to that particular Idrian. If only a couple choose not to it would still narrow the spectrum true. The thing is, if the Idrian Monk is smart they will choose a time to use their ability when the outcome of the vote is very much contested. Those who are voting for the other person may very well not want to switch and convincing them could be very difficult. Beyond that they know that the Idrian monk isn't Pahn Kahl that at least helps the case of the person they are defending. So long as the Idrian monk was only using their power when it was important, I doubt that the Hallandren's would be particularly likely to switch votes en-mass. Does that make sense or am I just rambling?
  21. The next one is an arbiter. http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/7084-new-reputation-levels/#entry116468 Hey, this is what I made the list for =)
  22. Heh, nard was actually one of my first IRL MAG players He is also on steelministry on occasion and will be part of the skaa crew in Cops & Crew. So he does know a little about the MAG : P
  23. Lifeless The timing based idea wasn't good, but it served well enough as a place holder to talk about the rest of the ideas to do with creating and using lifeless. The bidding system is certainly an interesting idea, I've played board/card games before that used that kind of system for part of the game. I want to think a little more on how balanced the lifeless would be if they automatically defend you till you send them to defend someone else. I guess if the Pahn Kahl wanted to kill someone whom they suspected had a lifeless they could always just throw an awakened rope at them first. Idrian Monk How exactly are they announcing in the name of Austre that someone is innocent without revealing themselves? But aside from that it is kind of like a super-powerful soother role in that it effects all Idrians, potentially soothing 10-ish people at once. Forcing them to reveal themselves to do so was to stop it from being overpowered. The situations when they are most likely to use it would be when the vote is swinging between 2 different people, forcing all Idrians not to vote for one nearly guarantees that the other will die. I might add a clause that the ability has to be activated with at least 12 hours remaining during the day to give Idrians a chance to change their votes. A player trading system is out, the game is rather complex already And sadly there is a limit to how much time I can spend on it. Purchasing Breath I think I assumed Hero meant higher than without really thinking about it. Lower than the roll wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. The proposed lottery system is an interesting alternative. I don't really like it for the lifeless, but for purchasing breaths it has some advantages such as simplicity and letting me easily control the number of breaths entering the game. One addition I would make though is that anyone with 3 or fewer breaths gets 2 entries into the lottery. They cannot win 2 breath in one night, but they have a higher chance of winning one.
  24. @Aonar, day. @Chid, you are welcome to join @Sphinx, 1) I will pm them back to let them know that nothing happened when they try to use the command. 2) It should be fairly obvious in the writeup what kind of kill it was. 29 people, come on, just 1 more... =)
  25. Ok, some updated rules and ideas, let me know what you guys think. Creating lifeless Creating lifeless will cost one breath but it requires the body of a dead player to do. The first person to pm me during the night saying they are making a lifeless out of a particular dead player will get to make them as their night action. Anyone who pm's me later will be informed that the body is already gone and can spend the night doing something else. The Idrians do not like lifeless, so as a diplomatic gesture all lifeless must be kept in a barracks, any lifeless found outside the barracks must be immediately surrendered to it and they join the other lifeless that the people with the lifeless commands control. After you have made a lifeless you can use it on any following night to protect one person, it will defend them from the Pah Kahl or from other lifeless but not from awakened swords (but will defend them from awakened ropes during the night cycle?). Using a lifeless like that reveals them and they join the barracks and cannot be used again. (Though they may well appear in writeups when the lifeless commands are used.) Every night where you choose not to use your lifeless there is a 20% chance (or a 10% chance?) that someone will stumble on them by accident and you will lose them anyway. 8th heightening I'm thinking of going with that you cannot be effected by awakened ropes. OR that if a strawman is used against you you can choose to spend the next night breaking it's commands and making it work for you instead. You cannot recover their breath from it, but neither can they. 6th heightening Still considering alternatives. Idrian Monk Twice during the game the Idrian monk may declare someone to be innocent and no Idrians can vote for that person during that day. This includes the Idrian agent, but not Pahn Kahl or the Hallendren agent, though they would want to be very careful about revealing themselves. To do this the monk has to declare it publicly in the thread, revealing themselves to Pahn Kahl and Hallendrens who may want them out of the way. Purchasing breath I think we will go with Hero's suggestion: BUT. The option to purchase breath is only available every second night. (So 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.) As always, feedback is much appreciated =)
