Aww, what have I...ever...done.........nevermind. Fair enough. I'm basically just agreeing with what others have said here but it's really up to you and if you are going to find it easy or difficult to deal with all night actions in that timeframe. Often I think 24 hours might be all that is needed. I needed 48 hours in Colours of War because the returned needed the opportunity to decide to save someone and because of the sheer amount of stuff that happened each night It's still a work in progress atm (and it won't be happening for a long time) and actually I won't be able to give a full rules listing till after the game ends. It's all about mysteries I can give you a rough elevator pitch though. (Just dropping it in a spoiler as it's a little off-topic )

What, Wilson and I actually working together?.... Hrm, not sure. It'd be fun to run again, with a bunch of modifications and improvements of course. I've actually just asked Meta to add me to the long game GM list again, but I've got a rather different game in mind this time....I think you'll like it

<paraphrased> Ah good, it is the original Clancy then Yeah, I'll probably be doing the same. Could be interesting to see how this works out. (Oh and if I get gyorn I'm gonna be so tempted to make you my odiv You could even betray me to make it more like the book!) You are a bad influence on me

... ... ... ... fine. To make things clear though: up till Friday the 29th I might be able to keep up with the thread. I could at least skim it and post actions, but I definitely won't be able to discuss till past then. Past that I should generally be able to keep up ok though I won't be super active, aka no super in-depth cons for a change Clancy returns! Well, he may or may not be the same Clancy. We shall see

I'm going to disagree a bit with some of the criticism. These are, of course, my personal opinions. To state this clearly, I really liked the first avengers movie, but I liked the second more. Personally, I think some of the people reviewing/talking about AoU in comparison to the first avengers are remembering the first one as being better than it actually was. Don't get me wrong it was pretty great as a whole, but the plot wasn't, nor was the character development. Loki's plan was, well, "not a good plan". Tom Hiddleston made the role awesome, but that doesn't change the plan being very poor. In terms of character development in the avengers: -Hawkeye got nada, we learned a teensy bit about his character but for obvious reasons it didn't develop at all -Black Widow got plenty of screen time but I'd argue she only really got one or maaaybe two scenes with much development, and it was more insight for the audience than development -Thor got a slight amount of development in learning to work as part of a team -Stark got basically the same as Thor until the nuke at the end -Cap got a little development in learning how to work with a, erm, difficult, team of individuals, but I don't think he really developed much personally -Banner's development was summed up in the line "I'm always angry", you can decide for yourself how much sense that part makes So really, it was a movie about the avengers struggling to team up together and then being awesome all together in the same movie....and that was all it needed to be to be awesome. But now that the first avengers movie had done that, age of ultron needed to do more. We gave the first film a free pass on a lot of stuff for getting the heroes on screen together So now to actually talk about age of ultron specifically: I won't comment on the CGI cos it's really not my area. I can sorta see what people are talking about with some lower quality bits but to be honest it didn't really bother me. -Some people have said that some of the characters didn't get much in the way of development. Yep. This is 100% true. That doesn't mean it's actually that big a problem. If they had tried to give significant character development to all of the avengers they would almost certainly have failed to do it well. Giving 10 wildly different characters significant growth in a 2 and a bit hour film while keeping it flowing well would be a pretty incredible feat -Well that's because there were too many characters! Sort of, yeah. But it's explicitly a team movie, and who exactly would they have cut? The twins and/or vision I suppose leaving the cast more or less the same as it was in the first movie and having a couple more characters appear from no-where with no setup to join the avengers when the current team effectively disbands at the end of the movie? I couldn't really get behind that idea. Yeah there's a lot, and yeah that means the film can't give each as much detail, but if any of the major characters weren't there we'd be seriously wondering why the heck not. Falcon, warmachine, etc were essentially cameos, and that's fine by me. The movie didn't really need more heroes taking centre stage but I would have been wondering what was going on if they hadn't rocked up for a scene or two. Kind of like how in all the solo films we keep wondering why Thor isn't around to help, or ironman, etc. Except it would have been much worse to have that feeling in an Avengers movie. Basically what I'm trying to say is that Age of Ultron selects a portion of the major characters to focus on and develops them while the rest of the team act as supporting characters in the story. And frankly I think that's the best way to do a large teamup movie like this. Give everyone important some awesome scenes, but focus on making the narrative and development of a few of them really good rather than trying to give all of them an equal share and overall I'd say that character development was significantly better than the first movie. I suppose this could be a matter of personal preference. Hmm, if it feels like I'm just disagreeing with you Mckeedee I apologise. I mean, I do disagree with some of what you said but I'm not just responding to you here, you're just the most recent one to say some of this That said, the following 2 thoughts are directly in response to you From left field? Yeah I spose so, largely because they haven't been in a film together since the first avengers. Plenty of time for a relationship to grow. I certainly wouldn't say it does nothing for either character though, it gets both of them considering how important the team is to them, and how important their own personal happiness is, what they are willing to do and what they are willing to sacrifice. There's plenty of potential there. I'm not saying I loved the subplot, but I would say it did cause some character development It was a lot better than Jane/Thor in both of the Thor films, particularly the first. It didn't annoy and distract me the way that did. (As a side note, I'm generally not overly interested in romance in movies, books, or any other media. It largely springs from not caring all that much about it in real life (Too much better stuff to be doing.) Which, perhaps, means I'm not hugely qualified to talk about it, oh well.) Ultron has an opening 5 minutesish of extremely rapid character development, though I don't feel he develops too much during a lot of the movie. In some ways it's more of a discovery for him and the audience of what he wants/thinks: his constant quest for a better body, his "vision", his opinion on humanity and what should be done, or perhaps more how it should be done than anything else. As the movie gets towards the end he also develops or discovers something of a penchant for drama and symbolism. A final showdown with all the avengers against all of him with the fate of the world at stake, creating a meteorite of sorts to cause his desired extinction event. There is also the moment near the end where he's in a quinjet and just having fun. Anyway, my point is that it was more about discovery and learning than a typical arc, but (I personally ) felt he had a fair amount of character & some development though there certainly could have been more. I'd say he had more development than Loki did in Avengers one. I mean, Loki was awesome in that film, but he didn't really change from when he came in to the end of the movie. I do think that Thor's pool scene needed a bit more. It was clear enough by the end of the film roughly the kind of thing he learned I think (though not how he learned it), but it was a bit too short and vague in my opinion. I also felt that the film was occasionally held back a bit by how much it was trying to set up future films. Some of it was well done, but some of it felt a little clunky to me. So not a perfect movie, but I still really liked it and will happily watch it again in future. Possibly again before it goes out of the cinemas.

Oh I know there are plenty of older people here and I wasn't saying I have any issue with younger people at all. It generally doesn't matter what age someone is on forums. (Though a five year old would probably be fairly noticeable.) I have a feeling that the demographic was a little older when I first joined (not saying that's necessarily good or bad) particularly given how back then the site was substantially smaller and much more focused on detailed theorising. (The roleplaying subforum was about as active as a graveyard.) It was also before steelheart was released It's pretty cool how much the site has grown since then.

First Names (if you're comfortable sharing)
Claincy replied to gjustice99's topic in General Discussion
I'm Colin and quite content with it. That said, I identify pretty strongly with Claincy now. I use it pretty much everywhere online and "I am lord Claincy Ffnord" is actually an anagram of my full name. (I honestly don't mind if you guess what my real name is from that.) -
Huh, I kinda thought the average age was a bit higher I'd like to reaffirm what some others have said already. If you find a course that you're really interested in at University (/college or whatever) then it is loads better than high school. I personally have 6 weeks left of my Computer Science Bachelors degree, then I will be focusing my efforts on independent games development

Huh, was looking through the thread to make a list of everyone who helped make the list. (Figured it was about time I did that.) I had completely forgotten I said this The list of contributers is quite long btw: Awesomeness Summoned, Delightful, Argent, PorridgeBrick, Kurkistan, Quiver, Green Hoodie Mistborn, Senor Feesh, Observer, ccstat, Swimmingly, Alvron, Metacognition, The Only Joe, GreyPilgrim, Aether, jasonpenguin, Mailliw73, Moodle, Tempus, Baine, Kobold King, LeftInch, Sir Jerric, Tensoon, Ashiok, Theorymaker, Seonid, Shaggai, TheYoungBard, Curiosity, Snoopy, Voidus, Frosted Flakes. Oh, and Chaos, I am dissapointed by the lack of a Worldsinger rank. I guess it is pretty similar to Worldbringer, still.... I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but Kobold King joined the forum literally the day before Chaos updated the rep system.

We had a rabbit called Snowdrop quite a few years back. Was pretty good, till he, er, went kinda feral, then got killed by a fox, for fun :/ After that we had 2 hand-reared cockatiels (one a while after the other). They were awesome, happy to just sit on your shoulder and keep you company Our first one also danced to "Under the sea" and stole the robber whenever we played Settlers of Catan. We used to try to set up another game with a lot of wooden pieces to the side for it to play with (some version of this one). It wasn't fooled though, it would barrel through, knocking them all over, and then grab the robber and fly off We lost the first cockatiel while I was on holiday in Tasmania. It always heard when we were coming home and flew through the house to meet us, somebody accidentally opened the door into it as it was flying and gave it a bit of a knock, it flew out the open door. Our second one had crazy periods were it would fly rapidly around the rooms it was in like a mad thing, someone wasn't paying attention and it went straight out the door as well. When we were looking/asking around for that one (we never found it) we met someone who had found a stray cockatiel around the time we lost our first and it looked roughly the same. So we think it was the same one, she'd had it far longer than we ever did by that point but it's nice to think that it was ok. ....anyway, on a less depressing note, meet Robbie! 14 week old Border Collie puppy. (He was 8 weeks in the second image and we'd just brought him home.)

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Claincy replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Don't think you'd need to worry too much on that count. I strongly suspect that the fillings would be too much a part of you for any ordinary allomancer to effect them. So if you run into the lord ruler you might be in trouble Edit: To be clear, I did find your post funny -
Well, both my parents love board games so I grew up on them ^That is a large chunk (though not all) of our family collection. Rather than make a long list of games I really like, I'll just note that my current favourites: board game - Alien Frontiers card game - Thunderstone We have that, tis a very nice game

We're still missing something here. In the fight between Szeth and Kaladin Kaladin gives Szeth the following injuries: -stabbed in the shoulder with Syl, not enough to disable the arm, "The strike to the shoulder hadn't fully severed the soul leading to the arm". The text says "Indeed, he didn't try to heal his shoulder-which would have required a lot of light-" As we are from Kaladin's perspective it's possible that Kaladin thought Szeth could heal it and is wrong. Szeth isn't mentioned as healing it once they enter the storm and have effectively unlimited stormlight, but Kaladin also makes no mention of it not being healed. As he thought Szeth would be able to heal it (whether he actually can or not) you would expect that he might mention it if he noticed that Szeth didn't in fact, heal it. I'm not sure how obvious the injury was though. -"Kaladin spun around and slashed his spear-which became a sword-through Szeth's foot." I am guessing that cut just killed the foot not the whole leg but I don't think we know for certain. -"Kaladin swung down and a hammer appeared in his hand, crashing into Szeth's shoulder, breaking bones" This one has always confused me a bit, I'm guessing it doesn't cut through Szeth because people don't expect a hammer to cut? -"As stormlight tried to heal the assassin, Kaladin pulled in close and slammed his hand against Szeth's stomach, a knife appearing there and digging deeply into the skin. He sought the spine." On the next page: "Szeth slowed, his wounds healing." So he definitely healed wounds made by a shardblade (or Kaladin was mistaken somehow I guess?). The blow to the shoulder from the hammer appears to have just broken bones so that's well enough to heal. But the other injuries were definitely cuts with Syl. So what are we supposed to think here? Can stormlight used through honorblades heal flesh wounds caused by a shardblade but not limbs that have been cut through? That seems a little inconsistent to me but also seems to fit with what he said. Except that the part that was changed doesn't really relate to that. This healing is still in the new edition. The only difference is whether Szeth was stabbed through the wrist or through the spine. Considering this from another angle; to my knowledge an honorblade really isn't a "dead" shardblade, so why does Brandon's comment even relate to the current situation? Was it just poor choice of wording? Did he mean to include honorblades in that statement? Or is there something we don't know about how the honorblades were made? But we know that it isn't a dead spren, unless it's somehow dead enough that living spren can't detect/feel that it was once a living spren. This sounds like a stretch to me. Is it saying that with enough stormlight a knight radiant could heal from having their spine hit with a shardblade? That seems the most literal interpretation of Brandon's words, but sounds like it wouldn't work too well narratively. Yeah, I'm confused.

Anniversary Game: In the Re-Wake of the Koloss
Claincy replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@Hero, Maill, I'm with you there. It was great for a while, but it was good that I died when I did that game Die laughing was closer I can just feel the love pouring out of the dead doc to me. For those curious, I'm mentioned 370 times, and at least half of those have to be in conjunction with a comment about me dying/my blood/liver/other body part. Another edit: One more thing, to whoever runs the next game I play in: It seems to me that it would be particularly appropriate for me to have a serial killer role, given how much talk of my blood being spilled there was in the dead doc. (Not to mention a tad ironic ) -
Anniversary Game: In the Re-Wake of the Koloss
Claincy replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well played everyone It was a lot of fun. For anyone who doesn't yet appreciate the beautiful irony of this game: The only players who were in the first game who were also in this one were; Maill, Wilson, JasonPenguin and I (and Meta as the GM of course.) And I was spiked in that game too and we won by gaining the trust of prominent villagers, losing a single spiked in the process. [There's more similarities and I'm not gonna go through them all, but it was an anniversary game in several amusing ways ] I'd just like to point out that Wilson's initial reasoning for trusting me was very clever, and probably would have been accurate if it had been anyone but me. I tend to chat with Meta a little in PMs just about my role or the game in general before moving most conversation into the doc, and that's what Wilson saw. It wasn't a conscious ploy on my side or anything, just luck. Beyond that, convincing people that I'm a villager while doing whatever the heck I want to in the thread is probably what I'm best at in these games I make a truly awful villager though. Some Kudos to Newan for calling me out on defending Weiry even if I made you lose your conviction afterwoulds. You were right about me defending him, though you were completely wrong about the offensive smoking being unrealistic...we'd been doing that pretty much the whole game It was why Meta gave us two smokers in the first place, not that he said that till after we decided to do it ourselves of course. The following comment/s contain significant spoilers for Agents of SHIELD season 1. Seriously, if you haven't seen it yet, don't read this. Hmm, now it seems to me that this leaves us with a bit of a problem, Wilson and everyone else are still going to want their revenge, let's see what we can do about that. A tall figure walked through the village in the fading light. He had dark skin and a crescent-shaped scar on his left cheek and he dressed in a black and silver uniform. The koloss had done their work well, Tyrian Falls was a ruin. Barely a building still stood and not a spark of life remained in the ruined streets. The man reached the town square where the majority of the corpses lay, he wandered through looking for one in particular. He stopped near the altar at the centre of the square and reached down and pulled free two large spikes of metal, tossing them aside. He reached down again and there was a glow of light. Clancy opened his eyes. The face of the man standing over him was one he had hoped to never see again, it was a face from his past, and his greatest crimes. Still, he felt remarkably good, better than he had in a long time, the whispers that had plagued him for decades were gone. With a start he realised that his spikes had been removed, and with them his powers. His senses felt dulled and he could no longer touch the emotions of those around him, but perhaps that was a price worth paying. "Why?" he asked. "Because you have not yet met justice for your many crimes. This death is a breeze in a highstorm compared to your crimes." For the first time in many years Clancy felt fear bubble up inside him, "What are you going to do to me?" "Nothing, there are others coming who will attend to that." Without another word the man rose and walked away. Clancy lay there thinking for a little longer, then force himself to his feet. It was time to leave, time to find somewhere else to stay, somewhere to hide, and plan. As he walked out of the village and into the ash-covered landscape he remembered something important, there was one more thing he had to do. He turned and stood, staring at the village for a time while he thought over all that had happened, after a time he began singing, his voice a low baritone. It wasn't a perfect ballad, but then, it hadn't been a perfect town. And who are you, the proud skaa said, That we should run and hide? Only men of a different skin, Who's coming we have spied. With skin of white, or skin of blue, All men still can fight, And we can fight as well as you, and we will face your might. And so they spoke, and so the spoke, Those skaa of Tyrian Falls, But now the ash falls o'er their homes, With no-one there to see. Yes now the ash falls o'er their homes, And not, a soul to see. Finishing his song, Clancy turned and walked away into the night. Now I really need to read through the dead doc As much as I've enjoyed this game, I won't be playing in the next couple/few, though I will be back eventually. To play properly just has too high a cost in time and effort and I've been letting other commitments slip to play. (+The lack of sleep and corresponding impact on physical wellbeing.) I'm glad I played, and I will still be around, but I'm not going to start playing every game again. Edit: One other thing, to my fellow spiked. Thanks for being awesome Murder with you again someday? Edit 2: Oh yeah, 112 pages of google docs filled with copied PMs, coloured for the different players....never again. And another Edit (last one, for now, I think): Apologies for killing you straight up Alvron. I don't regret the decision, we had to kill someone and it was better off being an experienced player. (Both for danger factor and not killing a new player before the game even really begins!) but it always sucks to die straight away. -
My background is actually a slide show of game images. When I spend a lot of time in a game, or really like it, etc, I often put an image of the game into the slideshow. I try to pick a screenshot that makes me want to play the game. It can be useful for trying to pick a game to play on occasion. Ok, there is one image that isn't from a game: Cos, you know, Elsa. Anything that elicits that strong an emotional response from me deserves it's own spot.

I'm going to take this as an accidental compliment of sorts Phase 1: The incredible hulk Iron man Thor Iron man 2 Captain America: The first avenger The Avengers Phase 2: Iron man 3 Thor 2: The dark world Captain America: Winter Soldier The Guardians of the galaxy Excalibur (<- This is a joke, but I can dream can't I?)
