  1. I couldn't resist making that joke. I was wondering if someone would pick up on it before I got to 0, particularly once I started talking about Dr Who
  2. Dream Job: Independent Games Developer Current Job: Sending people back in time and feeding off their time energy Independent Games Developer
  3. Yeah I know exactly what you mean :/ From what you've said here I'm pretty convinced you really need a pug. When you're feeling down like this are the times that having a pug might be the most helpful I think. ...oh yes...0...
  4. Oooooor they're asleep, or busy I wouldn't worry about that for another 24 hours or so. (Actually technically I would worry, but that's anxiety not logic ) ...1...
  5. Congratulations Very well done. (I'm an Australian Queen's Scout.) 2
  6. Most of the time it doesn't bother me, if anything it's funny. 3 Hmm, using 2 of the most iconic Dr Who villains in the first 4 episodes of the 5th season. I spose I get it with the new Doctor and all, but I generally enjoy the episodes that have a new race more. I find retreads of the daleks start to get a bit repetitive after a while.
  7. I was briefly chatting with a stranger today (a side effect of walking a puppy) and they guessed I was still in high school (generally 18 or younger here). I'm 22 and just finished my Bachelor's degree It's not an uncommon mistake though, at least not when I've shaved recently. 4
  8. Finished watching season 4 of Dr Who now, I'll get there eventually 5
  9. I'd also recommend getting your sinuses checked if you haven't already. It might not be the issue, but a headache that never stops is one of the symptoms of chronic sinusitis. I'm speaking from experience here, I'm not entirely sure if there has been a time in the past couple of years when I didn't have some degree of a headache, though sometimes it was minor enough that I could easily ignore it. I have had months at a time where it was quite strong.
  10. I'm currently watching through Dr Who (Christopher Eccleston onwards). It turns out I had seen more of the early seasons than I thought I had. Also, 6 it's always weird re-watching shows/movies you saw 5 or 10 years ago and seeing the actors you remember being considerably older the same age as you are now
  11. I'm not certain how comforting this is, but it's not a case of you not being qualified. It's just a case of there being so many people out there looking for jobs. Keep trying
  12. In the end 2 of my (4) players didn't make it to the session. They were, incidentally 7 the two most powerful fighters too. It required a bit of emergency replanning but it did work out reasonably well. Edit: And I didn't kill anyone's character. Seriously injure perhaps, but not kill
  13. I found out a couple of hours ago that one of my MAG players won't make it to the session tomorrow. Some part of me is tempted to keep the planned combat encounter as is 8 *insert inquisitor smiley*. Realistically though I know I won't, I'm not actually evil.
  14. Others have already given a pretty good explanation of what it's like. But in case this analogy helps: It can feel a bit like you've been working for 9 hours but are keeping going anyway. You may really enjoy your job but as time goes on you just get really tired and, however enjoyable it may have been to start with, it is becoming progressively less so. I find personally that how well I know the people, the number of people present, loudness and the type of activity have a major impact on how quickly my social energy drains. The "ideal" circumstance for me would be relaxing and playing games with 2 or 3 of my absolute best friends. In that situation I can happily continue for perhaps 12 hours or so, but soon enough I'll be quite happy to just sit by myself somewhere and read/watch/play something alone. The moment you have more than 4 other people around the rate at which my energy drains drastically increases. Edit: I also have fairly strong social anxiety which ramps up under the same circumstances so social occasions are also difficult to begin with.
  15. *sigh* Don't you hate it when you spend the morning developing a really cool idea and then your more sensible side reasserts itself and you remember that you have 10 other ideas you should really finish first?
  16. Heh, homeschooling is pretty great (provided the parents do a good job of course). My twin and I were home schooled up till grade 2 (using a Montessori approach) and overall it was really good. Perhaps the biggest potential issue with homeschooling is a lack of social experience. I remember that we were part of a community of home schooled kids for that reason. Having a twin helped too of course.
  17. There are some aspects of GMing that can be a little disheartening on occasions. Like when you are busy creating characters that you are 95% sure will die the first time they appear in the campaign and you have to wonder a little why you're bothering to give them names, personalities and customized stats.
  18. Yeah I've seen that one before. I've mostly worked with small code-bases that haven't taken too long to compile. Could be considered a good thing or a bad thing depending on your perspective. Higher productivity but less sword fights If you need help feel free to ask
  19. I've been working on a simple unity game for practicing binary. There's nothing too complicated about it but if you want to give it a try I've currently got it hosted through my google drive, you can try it here. It should run fine in firefox or ie, you can use chrome but the unity web plugin is blocked by default in chrome. If you have any thoughts or feedback they will, of course, be appreciated
  20. A thing non-programmers should know about programming: Complicated programming requires a very high focus. It's like creating and solving a complicated puzzle in your head. When a programmer is deep into developing a program (or finding and fixing a bug) a mass of variables, constants, functions, orders of those, requirements, desires, potential issues etc are all piled into their short term memory at once. As well as a plan/vision for how to put it all together. Now if someone comes up to them and chats for a minute about, say, the latest GoT episode it shatters their concentration. It's like 1 of the pieces they were using to solve the puzzle, is now a Tyrion quote instead and suddenly the whole mess doesn't make sense. After a 1 minute interruption it can take 15-20 minutes for the programmer to get back to that level of focus. So if you try to talk to someone who's programming and they give some sort of vague response about talking later that's probably why There wasn't a particular incident lately that prompted this post but I've experienced it plenty in the past.
  21. Non-global moderators only have moderator power in specific parts of the forum, such as the theory subforums or Sanderson Elimination, global mods have those powers everywhere. I'm not certain exactly what powers 17s mods have as it can vary between forums but generally they have access to the moderation queue and can: edit/hide posts, move/merge/hide/lock/sticky threads and give out warnings and suspensions. Administrators also have control over the forum itself and can create/remove/change subforums and can change a lot of details about how the site works including restrictions on users, user-groups, profiles, posts, signatures, polls, mods. Basically they can do just about anything
  22. From everyone I've talked to and my own experiences we're all really still silly kids trying to fake being a mythical being known as an "adult".
  23. A few thoughts on labels (in my opinion): -Are they necessary? No. -Are there a slightly crazily large number of them? Yes -Should you apply them to others without their consent? No, that can be harmful. -Can they be beneficial? Yes. -Labels can make it easier to find people similar to you if you're feeling alone/lost/confused/whatever. It's a lot easier to find a community with a single term to search for than trying to use a rough description. -Labels can help someone who is struggling with their identity to better understand and define themselves. That isn't the case for everyone of course, but if it helps someone to think of themselves in terms of certain labels then good for them.
  24. Possums are cool, and I love our dog (most of the time). But the two together when the neighbours (and our family) are trying to sleep is a storming nightmare.
  25. I got the results back for my last unit (for which I had a deferred exam) and I got a HD. So I've now finished my degree! (It was a Bachelor of Computer Science with a minor in Games Dev.)
