Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Claincy replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
From my knowledge/experience a lot of bullies act that way because they have self-esteem issues or other issues they are (failing) to deal with. Making someone else's life worse can make them feel superior or better about their own life in some way. That doesn't excuse bullying, though it can explain it. I have no idea if knowing that helps you or not, but I like to understand why someone is behaving negatively when I can. (I also really don't like bullying ) -
Heh, I'd say the Marvel comics universe does break, with alarming frequency Give the MCU time....

Tonight's D&D session was really good Lots of rp (some of it even good!), maybe 20% combat total (not that I dislike combat, but I really like rp). They got to really get started exploring the archipelago the campaign is set in and met 3 major NPCs (and many more minor ones). I got to set up some more mysteries/plot hooks, deepen/progress existing ones and include some things specific to individual PCs. Was a good night -
They've just announced a social stretch goal (2.5k backers) for a custom card creator through drive through cards. I was hoping for blank cards as an addon but this is even better

I read a few, my current favourite is Not A Villain. Brief from the website: It's pretty great I also read Replay, OOTS (like plenty of others here it seems), The Dreamland Chronicles, Will Save World for Gold, Earthsong, Goblins, Gaia. I've read others at times, but those are the ones I'm reading currently.

The Official Thread of Relationships
Claincy replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I agree with all of this I think in general women tend to use subtext a little more than men, but people of both genders definitely use it and I suspect a lot of the difference in how much we use it and the manner in which we use it may be due to the differences in how our culture views men and women. Being brought up with different expectations (some of them stupid and harmful) will naturally have an effect on how we communicate. I think we can run into the exact same problems when communicating with people from different cultures and with different upbringings. I'm certain this does happen. I also think you could substitute just about any significant upbringing or culture difference into that phrase and it would still be accurate, at least to some extent. Personally I'm not particularly great at subtext. I think I can generally recognise it's presence but if I start thinking about it I very easily end up over-analysing, social anxiety kicks in and pretty quickly I can end up guessing they meant one of a few worst case scenarios and missing what the subtext actually was When it comes to using subtext myself, well, I spent an unfortunately long period of time suppressing my own reactions and emotions (yay for bullying etc. ) and as a result I don't tend to emote very strongly unless I'm really relaxed or actively thinking about doing so. -

I've got nothing against subtext in general, it's a standard part of interpersonal interaction It's always possible for it to be misinterpreted though so if something's particularly important I think it should be stated clearly. -

Heh, we can hear subtext (generally). The trouble with subtext comes less in recognising it's existence and more in correctly interpreting it -
Mm Titansgrave was good (Though personally I do like Critical Role better *shrug*)

So now that I'm not really tired it occurs to me that those sentences look like they're related. They're not. The second line was a comment on my health, not a comment on America's gun laws. I definitely could have phrased that better. -

Yeah. I was agreeing with you. I apologise if it didn't come off that way. -

Oh I know there are a number of factors in America that make gun control significantly harder and the system we have here wouldn't work as well there. There is definitely plenty that could be done though and imo the amount of shootings America has is ridiculous for a developed nation. -

I hold the typical Australian view of America's gun laws. Very glad ours are different :/ --- On an entirely separate note: It's not ideal when someone has reason to ask you "When were you last well?" It doesn't improve things any when the answer is "I don't know." -

Normally I quite enjoy walking our dog. Things get a bit more difficult when he decides that to start pulling hard on the leash for no apparent reason, and keeps doing it. He's a border collie so he's quite strong. (My best guess is that he saw a car that he thought was ours so had part of his "pack" in it. I know for certain that he didn't see our car but there are similar ones around.) Which still would've been more manageable if it wasn't cold and wet and the leash he was pulling on wasn't resting on chillblains and my head didn't hurt. (Normally he's actually quite good and doesn't really pull for me except on a main road or something similarly exciting.) Edit: OK, back on good terms again Due to a combination of good behaviour and being cute. -
The project is now EU friendly if that helps anyone

XD it's so good! I think I knew just about all the lyrics (and most of the other lines) once, still know a lot. I actually cosplayed Dr Horrible once back in High School on a Hero's and Villains free dress day -
@Sunbird Geeze, that's weird/nasty. @Haelbarde Clearly the take away is that we are better off not ducking and just taking whatever's coming right? @Darkness Ascendant Heh, that's not a bad idea actually.

This thread needs more activity, so here's another silly story I have a scar in the middle of my chin. A number of years back my brother and I were cleaning our room and messing around and playfighting a bit (we were both kids at this point). I don't remember if he was throwing a mock punch or just trying to pat my head but I ducked down out of the way, quite successfully I might add. Word to the wise: make sure there is nothing directly in front of you when you duck. Particularly not something like this: Not my finest moment

Just want to try something... <div class="ipsSpoiler" data-ipsspoiler=""> <div class="ipsSpoiler_header"> <span>Spoiler</span> </div> <div class="ipsSpoiler_contents"> <p> Using HTML source </p> </div> </div> <div class="ipsSpoiler" data-ipsspoiler=""> <div class="ipsSpoiler_header ipsSpoiler_open"> <a href="#" data-action="toggleSpoiler"> </a> <span>Hide contents</span> </div> <div class="ipsSpoiler_contents" style="display: block;" animating="false"><p>This is a standard spoiler tag</p></div> </div> Hmm ok nevermind. Wanted to see if it would parse or block the html for a spoiler the way it lets table code pass.

First and foremost: Nice work Chaos (and everyone else who helped) A couple of quick things I've noticed: I keep seeing the quote and multiquote buttons as part of the post before remembering what they are. I'm wondering if it would be easy/worthwhile to put a small light grey box around them, like the ones around the rep buttons/icon. I think that would make it look slightly more separate/intuitive but it's not a big deal. The quote and rep sections move to separate lines far sooner than they have any need to. Even on my mobile they wouldn't be close to reaching eachother if they were on the same row (perhaps on a really small mobile they might). They go into separate rows as soon as it goes into tablet mode (as such). It just looks a bit odd to me having them separated like that and it unnecessarily stretches the page on mobile. It's not a really big deal though. @Unodus If it's any consolation regarding Allomantic shaped profile pics, it's not very hard to do your own individually For a (very rough) example: Edit: It appears I'm not doing the @mention right :/ Edit again: Got it now, the popup wasn't appearing when I wrote the post.

I had the opportunity to help playtest the game so hopefully I can provide some useful insight here I will say this straight up: If you don't like games that have a significant deal-making component this may not be the game for you. With that said, I think the game is really good. The design is solid and highly enjoyable. If you consider the conflict and competition between the houses an integral part of the mistborn era 1 setting then it fits the setting well. (I do think it is, but that's one of the main pillars of my MAG campaign so I may feel it's more significant than others would.) In any case you really don't need to be familiar with the setting to play the game. The setting is more than just a skin, but it doesn't require knowledge of the world to enjoy. It's also sufficiently different from other games my family, friends and I already own (which is an almost embarrassingly large number ) which is definitely a plus. It doesn't feel like a different version of an existing game.

Some technical bits, but more songs. Aside from a vocalise (which was enjoyable enough in it's own right) I sung Pieta Signore, Mit Einem Gemalten Band, Die Post and Ships of Arcady. -

I started a new casual job on Monday and it's going well so far I now have 2 (pretty well payed) casual jobs, both probably going to be around 8 hours per week. In other words I can keep myself funded while I spend the rest of my time working as an indie game dev, so this is pretty much ideal. Also, I took my grade 8 AMEB singing exam last Saturday and I got a B which I am quite happy with. (For context: in Aus the grades go from 1-8, then there's a certificate of performance and some diplomas.)
