  1. I don't think I've seen that particular video before. I think I use about 70% of the ones in the video (and probably a bunch that weren't). Some of them, like the ones related to smoking and drinking, I just don't have a reason to use. Others I occasionally have to stop and think to remember what the full word is I remember the meaning, just not the "proper" name. People and place names in particular generally get shortened. More than 2 syllables is just too much wasted time to be calling someone by right? 1 syllable is ideal, but 2 is good too. Hmm not sure, perhaps something about being upside down or drop-bears. I live in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. I see spiders around the house pretty often and rarely I've seen redbacks in the yard. But as a general rule I haven't found them in my bed, above it is a different story. Penquins! There's some great beaches where you can watch them return to their burrows in the evening Oddly I don't think Australia is the only place to employ some slang, we just use a particularly large amount of it
  2. I think there's a lot of misinformation (and unknown cool stuff) about Australia, so if you have any burning questions about the land down under, fire away (Other Aussies feel free to jump in.) If you feel like asking me stuff unrelated to Australia that's fine too.
  3. *shrugs* how would I know? I suspect staying awake thinking up stories isn't too uncommon, complicated algorithms.....more so. Regarding the conversation about left/right side of obstacles the left side seems the natural side to me. (I am right handed.) But I'd put that down to the fact that we drive on the left hand side in Australia so the left side is the natural side of any path/obstacle/situation to walk on to aid foot-traffic flow. Not everybody does, but quite a lot of people do.
  4. Thanks I've been waiting for him to get there. The next person to watch after Quiver will be Voidus for the Stormfather/Dragon cross over but he's a bit over 100 out still. If we get those nailed down the only boundary we will be missing will be Shard/The Broken One!
  5. I have a single deferred exam remaining to complete my Bachelor's degree. It's a bachelor of Computer Science with a minor in games dev (because there wasn't a major in games dev available for my course ). It's been great, but honestly I'm quite happy to be finished and moving into the workforce (as an indie dev ).
  6. That's fun Mine bends back a bit of a way more than normal, my dad's bends back a crazy amount, practically pointing back along his arm when he's doing a thumbs up. People's reactions to digits/limbs moving further than they theoretically should can be quite entertaining. Out of curiosity, can your thumb bend back behind your hand? Like this: Anyway... My whole family has light blue-grey eyes, so naturally mine are hazel I'm average height now, though a few years back I was quite short and I seemed to be at the exact height that most of the people I interacted with kept losing sight of me. Between that and how I didn't tend to talk too much in public I got a reputation for being really stealthy, when most of the time I didn't need to try. I have had a situation where I walked up to someone and said hi and they got confused, looking around for a bit before they looked down and saw me. I sometimes type in time to a piece of music. I think humming is the human form of purring, and can make you feel better I don't listen to a ton of music, I generally prefer singing/playing/humming it myself. I've been known to stay awake for hours after going to bed thinking about algorithms (and game mechanics, stories etc but I think that's more normal). I have been known to harmonise with the fridge. That'll do
  7. I made the font, but I didn't add the emoticons to steelministry so I don't know if that's where tec got the images for them.
  8. Hmm let's see, I have several, some of which have already been mentioned: -vertigo -claustrophobia -darkness -pointy/sharp things -guns But the biggest ones are: -failure -and people, people can be absolutely terrifying, irrational, illogical things. Scary from a physical and from a social standpoint...(as is probably very clear I have and still do suffer from some social anxiety.) Anyone here read Rowan of Rin? Point being, it doesn't matter what you fear or how much you fear it. What matters is whether you control that fear or whether you let that fear control you.
  9. It's 3 am here and I'm on my phone so I'll keep my thoughts brief (at least for now ). I'm going to refer to video games and other games just as "games" because really they are all part of a single medium in my opinion. I think that each medium has it's own strengths and weaknesses. I also think it is very important not to judge a medium's value by the average example of that medium. Cos frankly there is a ton of stuff in every medium that doesn't reflect the medium's potential. Now personally I like books much more than TV/ movies and I care about games more than either. I also believe that games have more potential than any other form of media. But I will readily admit that the majority of games do not represent this potential. As an example, call of duty is no more representative of the potential of games as a medium than twilight is of books (disclaimer: I'm not saying that those examples have 0 merit just that neither even begins to approach the potential of their respective medium.) A common thought so far in this thread is that books involve the consumer more, they make you use your imagination more and that gives them an edge over TV. And I agree. Of course some TV shows & movies can make you think and imagine far more than some books, but on the whole books definitely have the advantage over TV/movies in that regard. I would argue that they do not have this advantage over games though. Games are inherently more interactive than books which gives them a distinct edge. It doesn't necessarily follow that they are more mentally stimulating than books and J would say that the majority of games are less stimulating and less thought provoking than a good book. But at the same time I think their interactivity allows them to do more than books ever could. If you think that having visual stimulus can be a disadvantage in that it decreases the amount of imagination required J would say that, A: if done well the interactivity can more than make up for that. (Creativity in Minecraft being the most obvious example) or B: well fine, play a game that is entirely text based. There is no reason that you cannot have a game that is, in essence a book, except that the player is an active participant in the story. Is it easy to do well? Certainly not. Is it possible? Absolutely. And on a related note if you've ever been part of a really good roleplaying group you know there's a magic there that you can't really get anywhere else. It is also worth keeping in mind that video games in particular are a relatively young medium that is evolving and growing at an amazingly rapid rate. We've barely scratched the surface of what games are capable of. Does that mean that I think that games will eventually make other mediums obsolete? Heck no. There will always be a place for laying back and letting yourself become engrossed in someone else's story. Whether through reading, listening, watching or other methods. Edit:Heh. Not quite as brief as I intended. Games and their potential is something. I am quite passionate about (I am in fact going into independent game development as my primary focus, well, pretty much right now actually) and I could easily talk about this stuff for hours
  10. Please take the following with a grain of salt. If I had been made a Hoed my words would have been: This is not a code. If I had been a King my inheritance rule would have been one of the following: -Whoever tells the best joke -Whoever gives the most inspiring speech -A code/puzzle of some sort, (realistically I wouldn't have had time for that though ) If I was a dula.... Yeah, I woulda done it. Wilson & I.
  11. Heh, that's what happens when you give 5 people kill roles at once Can't remember if I already said this in the cultist doc but thanks for running this Hero/Tulir In case anyone is wondering: My inactivity was a necessity not a tactic, though it worked out better than I expected. I thought I'd be killed early on. I have a personal rule about not lying about real life stuff (anything in-game is free game of course ). Would I have been more active if I'd been a villager? Maybe slightly in the thread, but not much. I'm not happy with how inactive I was this game but that's the way things went. If I knew I was going to be so busy, why did I play? I knew I'd be busy for the first part of the game but thought I'd have more time after that, then got really sick. So why didn't I step aside and let a pinch hitter step in? I really don't like leaving something once I've committed to it. A little after I got sick I finally resolved that maybe it would be best if I did ... just as we ran out of pinch hitters. I did actually have a bit more time/ability starting around day 8. But at that point we knew we'd lost, and I didn't feel like putting in a ton of effort to maybe survive 1 extra cycle in a game that was already essentially over (for us) when I still should be studying for my final exam. *shrug* If I hadn't known that you weren't a cultist I would have been maintaining a health suspicion that you were doing just that, at least for a couple of days. I'm a little pleased that we guessed both Seonid and Twei as the Jindo's, even though we didn't manage to kill either of you I would like to note that the two of you did an excellent job. I think I've already said all I wanted to say about balance and mechanics in the spiked doc. A lot of it was in conversations (aside from one particularly long analysis) so you can read that there if you like As no-one has linked it yet, here's the cultist doc. Lastly I'd like to reiterate something I said in the spiked doc: overall it’s certainly one of the coolest SE games even counting balance issues
  12. Fair enough. My inactivity has, unfortunately, been unavoidable between sickness and Uni. I wasn't counting on being sick when I decided I had time to play, though given my track record so far this semester I suppose I should have. *shrug* too late now. I had a major project due today that has been a sinkhole for my time over the past few days. Fortunately that is over so I only need to worry about my remaining exam, and (hopefully) my deferred exam. (I was too sick to complete it). So hopefully I'll be able to be more active now, assuming I'm still alive to be so. I've tried to do some searching through the main thread to try to work stuff out, though the people I was most suspicious of have been confirmed or killed by now. The other reason you would have seen me reading it was me catching up on the events of days and nights after they had ended as I mostly read the thread in large chunks when I had the time. My primary suspects recently were Ostrich and Karlin as I felt that their virtual inactivity without being replaced by a pinch hitter was highly suspicious. Then Ostrich was replaced, which doesn't clear him, but it does largely negate my reasons for suspecting him. That left Karlin as my primary suspect, hence my vote for him. I'd stated my suspicions on both of them a while back and the reasons Karlin was being voted for last cycle were the same, with the addition of his seon. I didn't have the time or energy for it to be worth reiterating what I and others had already said so I didn't. It wasn't a matter of Jain being unsuspicious, he was, and is. But I was more suspicious of Karlin, hence the vote. At this point I'm trying to work out who I think is most suspicious. Jain hasn't got any less or more suspicious since yesterday in my opinion which means he's still fairly suspicious. Him asking Meta to scan him doesn't change much from my perspective as he was very likely to be scanned (or lynched today) as it was. If you're a cultist and you think you're going to be scanned you may as well ask for it in the hopes that that makes the priest suspect you less. Of course if he is a citizen then he probably would have said the same thing anyway so it doesn't make me suspect him more. Just not less either. I'll try to do more, make some notes, see what I can come up with tomorrow. It's too late at night and I am too tired to do it now :/
  13. I still don't have a ton of time (health is improving though! ) but I've noted suspicion of Ostrich and Karlin before. I'm nowhere near as suspicious of "Ostrich" as I was as the primary reason for suspecting him is no longer particularly valid. It's not that he's sure to be innocent, but there isn't a ton of evidence that he's guilty. Welcome Silverblade btw. Knowing that Karlin has a seon definitely adds to his suspiciousness. Also, we have at least 2 warriors and 2 priests? All guaranteed non-cultist/Gyorn and the priests guaranteed non-Odiv and with the transferable pendants that's a heck of a lot of citizen power. What that suggests to me is that the cultists may well have 6 players (I doubt more than that) but whether they do or not they probably have at least 2 players with roles still alive. It's a guess, but given how much power we have I think it's a reasonable one.
  14. Just an FYI. I am very sick and basically incapable of analysis at the moment. (Even ignoring my exam tomorrow.) Hopefully I'll recover reasonably quickly (it is theoretically possible at least) but if I don't and remain unable to participate for too long I'll step aside and ask for a pinch hitter to replace me. I really hope it doesn't come to that though. Sorry
  15. I did the two tests linked in this thread. I got INFP from the 16personalities one, and ISTJ from the other and most of them were 30-60% so not minor differences either :/ I suppose I'm consistently introverted but a lot really depends on the context of the situation. Hmm, taking a look at the descriptions.... INFP Well, actually yeah that mostly fits very well. Though I still feel like it misses a bit. ISTJ That doesn't fit me as well. Quiet and serious a lot of the time yeah, but "Practical, matter-of-fact, realistic, and responsible" etc etc doesn't fit so well. I'd say I'm pretty dependable but I'm not that orderly and I have been known to consistently attempt things that may be beyond what I really should be trying (but are cool). It's just not that great a fit overall. ...ok. Fine. What do I think (Using the links on this page.) I/E - Introverted. I can get energy from performing and to some degree around people I am really comfortable with but I'm otherwise decidedly introverted. S/N - Intuition. I would say that in general I am significantly more intuition than sensing. I will use sensing when the situation seems to warrant it but I'd generally think far more in an intuitiony way. T/F - Thinking. In most situations I would make decisions in a more thinking style, though if a decision seemed to be directly about interactions with other people I will often, and quite deliberately, switch to a feeling style. J/P - Perceiving. I don't feel that I fit perfectly with perceiving, but I know I don't fit very well with judging. Ok, so just working it out myself I come out as INTP. Not perfect, but slightly closer than INFP.
  16. Ok, I'm back. (Had a good weekend, though I've had insufficient sleep and am in a fair amount of pain from my head and from a mouth ulcer *sigh*) I have an exam day after tomorrow but some available time before then. That wasn't ideal, but when you get down to it it wasn't that bad overall. Losing Honey aint good, but at least he had Zas for his hostage so that gives us final confirmation of his evilness and we now don't have to lynch him later. I honestly don't know how useful this information will be, but Honey used his seon to contact me during day 4 (I don't know who he has contacted since). He wanted to discuss suspicions and noted he had some (small) suspicion of Meta but thought that might have been because of LG11. I noted that I thought Zas was and wasn't certain of Bort (at the time) though I suspected he was and that we'd know for certain sooner rather than later. I also mentioned my suspicions of Ostrich and Karlin He agreed that Ostrich was suspicious He confirmed he was A Pirate and told me he had taken Zas hostage (Though I cautioned against confirming his role without serious consideration as some people might not have believed Maill/him in the past.) He told me he was Spencer's heir and he proposed a code for communicating with me (kind of useless now)
  17. I've used them now and then. They make it a lot easier to look things up. I'm going to be away till the end of the next day cycle. I may well be able to get on long enough to read the forums and maybe vote. But I certainly won't be able to do any detailed analysis. Sorry. My current biggest suspicions are for Surgebound rainspren and Ostrich. Both have been on the very verge of inactivity without being replaced by a pinch hitter. Rainspren has posted once (after 2 cycles), without any real information or significance and I don't recall Ostrich ever posting. I don't see anyone sitting that far back in the shadows without posting anything to the thread unless they had some reason to want to avoid attention. Unless you're hiding something there is no good reason not to at least post a reason why you can't be active. Sorry I don't have more detailed insight at this juncture. :/ If I do notice anything else while I'm away I'll do my best to post it.
  18. I look like a medium-low height, skinny, (white) male, 19 yearold geek with short brown hair and hazel eyes. (I'm actually 22, but 19 gives a closer impression of what I actually look like )
  19. Chilblains. I really don't need it to be that painful to hold a pen during exam period. That is all.
  20. Suggestion: Put their username above their answers, preferably coloured or resized to be more obvious, eg: Username It'll just make things a bit clearer, particularly as the number of featured members increases XD Fun times. It wouldn't be a fond memory if she was easy to trick. Speaking of, I'd like to nominate little wilson (largely but not just because of SE) and I kinda want to nominate Meta (because of SE) and Gamma (also largely because of SE) too, but one member at a time I spose
  21. So it has more to do with how the physical structure of the gem effects light I guess. Which actually seems to fit well with Stormlight.
  22. Well, that was an interesting read to come back to. Winter. I figure I don't need to explain why. Sorry for not being around much but that's not likely to change in the near future. If Winter hadn't confessed I would have been a bit suspicious of Meta (an eliminator who is going to die anyway loses nothing by lying to get someone else killed first), but as it stands I believe you. Technically I spose you could be sacrificing a team-mate for the sake of trust, but that doesn't make much sense when said team-mate is already in a position of very high-trust. So yes, I believe you Oh well that changes everything! I'm trying to think of who has defended Winter in the past. I don't have the time or energy to search back through the thread but I only remember Wilson doing so and that doesn't help us at all.
  23. You appear to be disagreeing with something other than what I said. Phatt is obviously the priority to protect, that's not even a question or point for discussion and I thought it was pretty clear that wasn't what I was talking about. -It is entirely possible that we have 2 warriors, we might not, but we very well might. -Warriors cannot defend the same person 2 nights in a row. So the warrior/s will definitely be defending someone other than Phatt at some point and that is what I was talking about. Apparently that wasn't as clear as I thought it was.The smaller the number of other particularly good targets the better the odds that the warrior/s will guess right. I think you are fixating a little too much on this. I agree that villagers should hold off using vote manipulation roles in the early game to make it easier to pick out cultists. But I seriously doubt that everyone agrees, and if someone disagrees and has a vote manipulation role I further doubt they would express their disagreement in the thread as it would be quite likely to get them killed. Further, we're moving into day four. We are past the early game and frankly at this point if I had a vote manipulation role and reason to use it I would probably do so and I would use it earlier if I had sufficient reason to do so. Sufficient reason being either a lover matching or particularly strong reasons to suspect that someone was innocent who was about to be lynched. With the caveat that I would have to think that my manipulation could make a difference, which isn't the case when there is a large bandwagon anyhow. I'm not saying that the prince/ss isn't a cultist, the evidence so far suggests that they are. Nor am I saying that we shouldn't have a careful eye on the vote manipulation that happens and why it happens. But I don't think we can say with such authority that villagers shouldn't be using their vote manipulation powers beyond this point. (Just clarifying that to avoid being misunderstood again.) Edit: I meant to say, but forgot. I like this poisoning plan Meta, Bort, (or yourself actually, it would be good to know if we could trust you) all seem like good options. (Or me if you like.)
