  2. Did your bookshelf not look like this when you fell asleep???? What happened?
  3. Wow, these are fantastic! Have you tried: Candy cane Broken pipe Cane (old, so low quality) modern cane Ringmaster's baton Trekking pole Collapsing Trekking pole shillielagh jitte (old again) elven Warhammer is kinda cane-ish escrima stick/long escrima stick
  4. granted. you get one hard copy of the movie Wish dropped on your head. If you don't already have one, a second one appears in your pillowcase. I wish to explode.
  5. How TF did I forget moonlight was Shai aaaghhh
  6. All good points. Wait, what happened in TLM? I read it, but only once, and very far from when I read elantris (and I'm generally a really ignorant guy on the first readthrough) I know hoid got Elantrified in TES tho, so my point is stupid anyway.
  7. Okay buuuuut... Yelignar must be bonded to a person the heralds are so good b/c they're so experienced with their surges Yelignar consumes your soul You can't get experienced with surgebinding if you're dead via soul-eatedness heralds have had thousands of experiences with Yelig-nar, and the person bonded to Yelignar has no experience fighting Heralds, probably (the only one that comes to mind is Lift) I think a herald could still pretty easily destroy an unexperienced surgebinder, even if the unexperienced one has access to all the surges. I mean, Kal held out pretty long against Amaram, while Amaram had two shard blades and shardplate, and kal was still nowhere near the level of the heralds. Not even close. (except chana, who lost to an eleven year old with no experience) also, this from the coppermind, unless its already been addressed:The Shaod only takes people from Arelon or Teod, and occasionally Duladel. Also, else gates give vibes of this-takes forever-to-do-and-is-incredibly-difficult and not AAAAH-scary-monster-run-away-right-this-instant-super-fast, but I have nothing to back that up
  8. You should try writing a ketek in High imperial. I got like half a line in, its hard. (inspired by @Nesh's signature)

    1. Keteᛕ

      Keteᛕ

      hmm...

I'm working on something else right now, but that's now on the list!

  9. Hi, what's your favorite dinosaur? Opinion on Adolin? Imo, it depends on how much of a reader you are. If you spend lots of time reading, I'd go Mistborn 7 (reading a summary of the others first, if you haven't read it in a while) then SA, then Yumi, so you get the connections but also you keep TLM attached to Mistborn Era 2. If you're just trying to get back into reading more, I'd do Yumi (since you can finish it fast), then SA, then a reread of Mistborn Era 2, ending in TLM Note: TLM = The lost Metal, SA = Stormlight Archive
  10. Do you mean Aheleha? I almost brought up the moons on lumar as a counter example, but those are called like warts on your eyeball or smth like that. Ummmm..... I think the sky is pretty well appreciated on Canticle tho. they use it for their sole way of surviving. not destroyed or evil at all. A savior, in fact.
  11. So I'm right! Yelignar's bond is not a Nahel bond. Iiiiiinteresting
  12. I said some while I was gone: WS 4:I will maintain the free speech of those around me, and uphold it when it is suppressed. WS 5: I will restrain myself when I must in order to free those who are held back (this is paraphrased I wrote it down and mulled on it for like a week but I cant find the exact words I said) Bondstick 4: I will respect all life, and embrace it's role in the existence of The Stick, even if I scorn the being alone My spren are is: Sonor and Vlei What is the policy on Enlightened Radiants?(Radiants bonded to Enlighted Spren)
  13. Axies? idk if he met a dawnshard tho he did! ha! if this is right, someone can take it, i'm not likely to be active
  14. I don't know abt that, buddy. Sanderson def. wouldn't, but it's got potential. anything can be made grimdark (I suggest the Child Thief by Brom) You're absolutely right. For a book. But you're underestimating the effect the visual medium has on the viewer. A good example of this is Snape from the Harry Potter movies. In the books, he had to do a whole lot more sketchy-seeming stuff before the reader is convinced he's a bad guy. In the movies, though, all Snape has to do is appear on screen moderately ominously, and automatically the audience hates him. (assuming they don't have spoilers, obv). In the books, if harry had immediately attempted to curse Snape, it would have seemed crazy and unprovoked. But in the movie, it would have seemed a perfectly reasonable reaction to the vibes the audience gets from this creep.(yes I know he doesn't know any spells hush) It's still necessary for there to be plenty of violence and general terribleness in order to provoke such an intense reaction from the Skaa and the gang, but I don't think that threshold is so high that's it's beyond what modern Sanderson is willing to do, and the environment of Scadrial naturally lends itself to a world with implied harshness, even if it;s not shown directly.
  15. Yes, almost certainly. the Nahel bond is a tie between investiture and a physical being. there's plenty of examples, such as Renarin and Glys, singers and their forms of power, or the chasmfiends, of non-radiant spren bonding. The effects of non-radiant bonds are poorly explained, as are the reasons behind the radiant bonds. For example, luckspren/mandras make chasmfiends lighter. This might be because the mandras themselves are relatively light, a relatively unique trait, and so can fly. So, following that logic, musicspren make ryshadium... more translucent? more horsish? fsr it's "smarter", which doesn't seem to have anything to do with musicspren at all! like, musicspren aren't particularly smart, compared to other spren. the only argument I can see is "music sometimes is thought to improve intelligence". But if that's the case, then how does luck ever improve the ability to not be crushed by your own biology? The reasons behind the radiant bonds make a similar amount of sense. especially bondsmiths. It could fairly easily be argued that the surges you're given mostly align with radiant orders because they inherently align with the intents of the spren. And then you get to bondsmiths. How is it at all plausible that the most honor-coded spren and the most cultiv.-coded spren share any common intent or inherent powers whatsoever, beyond that which all other radiant spren would? the only really applicable thing is "is biggerrer"(technical term), in which case, i believe, the unmade might give bondsmith-esque powers. Alternatively, consider looking at the effects of corrupted spren and regal spren(lesser voidspren which can bond a regal) on their bonded partner.(I'm not gonna do these cuz so much of the voidspren/regal pages need updating or deconfuzationalizing(technical term)) Regal and Voidspren and Corrupted Spren Also, I'm not entirely sure Yelig-nar uses a Nahel bond. the books and the coppermind say bond like 8 bajillion times, but it doesn't seem like a perfect correlation. I have absolutely no backing for this other than the vibes feel off.
  16. Wayne might have been FTL? light didn't work right, and he went so fast a Shard couldn't keep up. (TLM Ch. 71) I think bendalloy savantism locks speed bubbles onto the metalborn. aaaaand gravitation /iron mass/steel push isn't gonna effect that much transportation surge operates at speed of light, if that counts... ummmm
  17. So, to be clear, the theory here is that the ambitious nature of the acts prohibited by the three rules are what causes the shade attacks, due to the permeation of the negative ambition-coded investiture at Threnody (the Evil(kind of))? If so, why don't other ambitious acts trigger them? and why are the shades mad on canticle too? it's an interesting idea, but it could use some refinement
  18. Hello, and welcome to the Shard! I'd Suggest making an Intro Post to tell us what you have and haven't read and to introduce yourself. I'd also suggest checking out Treamayne's Sharder FAQ. Also, double posting is generally discouraged, and editing the original post is prefered (three dots in the top corner). With that out of the way: Do you want any critique? I haven't Keteked in a while, but I might could give some small things. edit: I have now gone and Ketek'd: It's a haiku-Inspired set of 3 Keteks (although technically #2 isn't a Ketek, it's a Ketetek) With the contrast emphasized between the 1st and 3rd, rather than the beginning and end of the same ketek. I tried to emphasize this with the first being a 'perfect ketek' (word for word) and the third being a 'simple Ketek' (word forms allowed) my levels of ketek, if you're interested
  19. been thinking abt this while I was semi-dead, and I believe it says somewhere (I can't find where but I could swear I heard it) that only the ten pole stones naturally hold light, and so, like an aquamarine couldn't hold Stormlight, and so neither could roseite? not sure tho and I can't find that source.
