Guess That Cosmere Character! Forum Edition!
First of the Tide replied to Kidpen's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Probably Zahel. But imma guess Ford -
@Aliroz-The-Confused is right, to an extent. Settling an entire new continent is quite different at least from the overtaking of Roshar, since in the real world, colonizers would aggresively take over, and then, after generations, the natives become intermixed with the colonizers, both socially and hereditarily. However, in the scenario of the overtaking of Roshar, we see that, even after millenia, there has been absolutely no intermixing aside from a few select scenarios before the first desolation and within the last 10 years before WoK. The 'children of Ashyn' are cultural descendants only of the culture of Ashyn and of the effects of the land of Roshar. Holding that distinct from the the 'culture of roshar' (the cultural practices and beliefs of the original inhabitants) is perfectly reasonable and valid. While people in Iraq today are very different from Gilgamesh (and other similar scenarios), there have been vast amounts of cultural, social, and hereditary mixing that has greatly changed the inhabitants of that place. An Ashynite, for the most part, only exchanged ideas with other Ashynites, and only had kids whose parents were both entirely Ashynite. Being tied to the same land as someone else does not necesarily make you culturally the same, and making a distinction between those who have the original culture and those who are attempting to override it is valid and a positive step being taken in the real world. 'children of Ashyn' might not be the perfect term, but it is a clear and acceptable one. I might use Native Rosharan vs. Neo-Rosharan to show the cultural distinction, while still not degrading either one, but 'children of Ashyn' is clear and relevant directly to the conversation. Dang that was longer than I expected.

World Domination
First of the Tide replied to Through the Living Wrath's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Okay, terrible idea that might not work and is only kinda world domination, kinda annihilation. Mistborn flies an Elsecaller and the feruchemist up to upper atmosphere above. Elsecaller spren turns into a giant disc(if a fork works, why can't this)->can supposedly "protect against heat that could burn a person alive in seconds." surely enough to cool a city-wide space enough to kill inhabitants. If investiture is an issue, soul casting for hemalurgic spikes for unsealed metalminds teleport to other cities and repeat -
Even in the real world, this isn't well defined(Chinese Americans, for example, might still call themselves "Chinese" for dozens of generations, or maybe only one or two) Both the way you defined it and the way I defined it are ways of working around this to be precise. I prefer my system, because it feels most aligned with how they think of themselves, but yours is a little more unambiguous. Edit: I am trying very hard not to come off as racist. If I accidently offend you, I am very sorry. please communicate this with me, and I'll do my best to change my words in a more appropriate way. Ashyn and Roshar orbit the same star tho...

I'd actually argue that it should be more tied to birthplace (for example, Texans are Texans, even though most of their lineage came from Germany. This is just a couple centuries, where as Ashyn to Roshar is millenia) So "Homeworlds: Iyatil=Silverlight(Lighter), Eshonai=Roshar, Kaladin=Roshar, Vasher/Zahel=Nalthis, Hoid/Midius/Cephandrius/Wit=???" I'm just laughing imagining going up to a Texan and calling them a "child of Germany" (not trying to make fun of you, I just can't stop laughing at the idea)

Okay, but how long can an everyday's carry be burned before it runs out? and with occasional duralumin in an emergency, I think steel runs out fast, and Iron is not nearly as useful on it's own Can a mistborn do enough damage to plate before it runs out? (keep in mind that at least half of the plate probably has to break, since Unoathed can rearrange) Also, Unoathed can just pull a Kal+Shallan and put a chestplate on the mistborn, which, if it blocks iron/steel pull/pushes like we're kind of assuming, will drop them from the sky, and there's no way for them to get away.
-
Hmm. I didn't think about it that way. But if we can pick whichever metals we want, then I can practically choose any power I want because of that one thread. (Burning Adonalsiumium-Chromium, which lets me eat time, hence I win) Oh Shoot. Mistborn is super screwed. Unoathed shardplate can rearrange (see end of WaT)
-
Umm no Atium(only the 16 metals as indicated by the prompt) and no dynamite(not an every day kit, and E1 Scadrial has suppressed the development of gunpowder )
-
But Pewter can heal passively too, as well as nullify some pain. Obviously not as well as stormlight, byt maybe good enough. Also, do we know where Unoatheds' plate's power comes from? Dead plate has gems, and Radiants are based on the Radiant's stormlight, but what about Unoathed? Is it depletable?
-
Yeah you're right about it blocking allomancy. Found a WoB. My bad. -Speed bubble around just you -Coin in front of you -Steel push with duralumin enough power to send MULTIPLE HORSES FLYING BY THEIR HORSESHOES coins are smaller than horseshoes, and so go faster no way this doesn't break plate Pewter-duralumin punch the broken section (super fast, high reaction time, super strong. I'ma say like 20x all of the natural human (normal is 2x, and flaring is 3x, but it's based on how large the reserves are)this is as strong as someone in plate (I think a WoB says as strong as 20 men but I can't find it) and much faster) Unoathed is down before 2 seconds have passed Also second Trusk'our's questions I'm just Devil's Advocate here. I'm kinda turning this into can the Allomancer win, with perfect knowledge. I think Unoathed wins without perfect knowledge almost certainly.

sure, but that's why I asked about the size of the arena. If a mistborn can stay out of range, and send consistent projectiles, I don't see why they can't break shardplate. Actually, atium isn't one of the 16, but I could totally see a mistborn surviving in close combat if they have decent skill with speed(and slow) bubbles. And any decent force can crack plate after enough hits. E1 mistborns don't have guns. Again, any sufficient force. And, you don't have to hit the same place, just the same piece, which seems relatively easy if you've got some space. Actual shardbows are not made from spren, as far as I'm aware, but this is part of why I want to know the stuff about unoathed shardblades. If the unoathed can consistently get a ranged attack, it's a lot more dreary for the mistborn. What? let's go by pair. Copper/Bronze - Useless, you're right Iron/Steel - manueverability with the coins AND the rosharan has a good chance of having some metal on their person somewhere that can be pushed, and it's probably under the Shardplate, where it'll take a long time to get off. At the very least, a mistborn can put their opponent off balance a few times, in emergencies. Aluminum/Duralumin - Not really individual so not relevant, you're right again. Yay. Zinc/Brass - CONTROLS someone's EMOTION. doesn't Adolin say at one point that the most important thing on a battlefield is morale. What if they suddenly start feeling really sad, huh? or more reckless? or less confident? or resigned? Nicrosil/Chromium I give you this WoB: (and we don't know how either of these interact with Shardplate. also this WoB is for dead Shardblades) Gold/Electrum - lets you use a somewhat-futuresight to see which ones of you die, depending on your action Cadmium/Bendalloy - lets you change how time works (slow down shardbearer, or speed up yourself) Pewter/Tin you're super strong (maybe enough to break shard plate w/ your bear hands?) and can sense anything coming at you significantly better.

A Buzz Lightyear quote. -
Well, then we need to know what the arena looks like. A mistborn has much more manueverability, but an unoathed has clear advantage at close quarters. Also, can unoathed summon their shard blade in any shape and/or while not in contact with it? if so, how far away can they summon it I can't remember.

I hope you have a Happy Birthday. (no pressure tho)

First of the Tide replied to Belandrius Ohhmar's topic in Creator's Corner
Okay. punctuation/grammar in green (prob doesn't matter, since this won't be a final draft prob) important comments in blue (like when I don't have any clue what's going on or you'vesaid the same thing 14 times) unimportant things in purple things done well in orange if I'm talking about a longer section, it'll be underlined overall notes at the end keep in mind that any critique is just a suggestion, and only reflects my experience reading. take everything with a grain of salt. what works for me might suck for other readers, and vice versa- 10 replies

Sebarial? -
Welcome. I'm Tide, and I hang around all over the place, but right now i'm custom making Shardblades (request form below, but PM me first) and trying to name all 65535 Shard Combos. What Cosmere books have you read? Non-Cosmere? Non-Sanderson? Oh! and which dinosaur would make the best mistborn? Also, consider checking out the Sharder FAQ, if you have any questions.
