  1. I seem to recall there was a WoB on this, but I do not have time to look for it just now. I will edit in a link if I can find it later on. I seem to be full of un-attributed comments today, sorry! As I recall his blade is an edgedancer's blade so if he awakens it and bonds with it that would make him an edgedancer.
  2. Hope this isn't too far off topic but I find it interesting hearing from others which characters they like and which they dislike (and the reasons why). I know I like Adolin and Szeth both and eagerly looked forward to Szeth chapters (and there is of course another character I somewhat dislike and one I detest as well, lol). I would love to hear more from others on which characters they actively liked or disliked more than the norm (and why).
  3. Apologies if this is known but I have not seen a reference or WoB on this subject. Are we sure that the splintering of Honor made *more* spren or could that have made *all* spren? Related, is any information about when Honor was splintered known? Thanks for any references or links. Edit: Nevermind, I found the answer myself with minimal looking Sorry! For anyone else confused like I was spren were around before Honor was splintered, see #22 here.
  4. I think this is an excellent point and well worth emphasizing. While I still don't particularly like Shallan I definitely like her more after book 2 than book 1. To speak more generally, how people perceive characters can vary wildly! There is one character who comes to mind as an example who is well thought of here and yet I find that character to be one of the worst in the entire series. Szeth is a character whom I personally greatly enjoy reading his point of view chapters. I don't fault others for disagreeing with me on either count.
  5. I think the story will start taking a different path. I expect more information to be introduced (though not explained ) about the voidspren/voidbringers. In particular I expect the end plate of WoR indicates the Odium side of the heralds/surges/etc and some of that to be introduced.
  6. I just low how much he reaches out to fans to keep them updated. That itself makes the waits between books seem shorter IMO.
  7. I guess I just don't understand why people don't think he really is Taln. That is the only thing that makes sense so why the efforts to create theories that he is someone else?
  8. In the original drafts for WoK Adolin died so I think the jump from that to him eventually becoming a Radiant is probably a bit too large. I would love to see it happen mind you, I just don't consider it too likely.
  9. Hey I would be happy to help you out with those proofreads...
  10. Amaram describes him as well, Veden, red-haired, face unrecognizable due to the spear through the face mask. It was Heleran.
  11. Dang, now I am curious to see the logic behind the question mapping to orders.
  12. I thought about this when first reading WoK as well. I just stopped worrying about it and said meh its a property of shardplate to absorb the blows with some form of inertial dampening. If you look at the parts of WoR where Kaladin is learning lashings, he is described as lashing himself up and down equally to float in mid-air. Internally my brain said but what about actual gravity! If you think about how the lashings are described its pretty clear that while under the influence of a lashing, regular gravity is just ignored/has no effect. That isn't explicitly described in the text but it is clear from the circumstantial evidence. I consider shardplate's protective nature to be similar in nature...there clearly is something there to protect it just isn't explicitly described IMO.
  13. As much as I hate to say it, as Adolin is one of my favorite characters, I have to agree here. I just don't see as much development for Adolin as other major characters. (Which just makes me sad that a great character like Adolin is minor and a terrible one like Renarin is a major one...sheesh.)
  14. I actually found Mizzy kind of annoying so was surprised to see her so well represented! I went with Megan because knees as a nickname she created cracks me up.
  15. Try to remove your love of Renarin and look objectively at the characters. I say this because for me the character I can never forgive is Renarin. Look at his actions throughout the book objectively without emotion. 1. He took shards from his family that could be better used on others, true warriors. His father and brother were trying to help him but the right thing to do would have been to refuse them and help his family in another manner. He is not a warrior and he knows that. 2. He never said anything about his reaction to the blade. Again this is reprehensible and unforgivable! 3. Worst of all, and this is the reason that I consider him unforgivable...he entered the duel *knowing* that he could not help or contribute. He jeopardized his brother and his families shards in a ridiculous manner! He is supposed to be an intellectual and yet he displays zero signs of intelligence throughout the book. Honestly, Shallan's reaction to him is well deserved. If anything her reaction is less negative than it should be.
  16. I have a signed copy of the leather bound Legion hard back.
  17. I'm a math and science guy not an English guy but aren't metaphors a super-set of similes? I.E. I thought all similes were also metaphors and hence calling them a metaphor, while not as accurate as calling them a simile, was still correct?
  18. I think a strong argument could be made for Megan being up there really high. She can alter reality...that could potentially be the strongest power of all the epics. Obviously this depends on how much her strength waxes and wanes per her comments.
  19. No, absolutely not, not even in jest. This guy is terrible. There is not a single thing he has been in that he has not ruined IMO. He ruined Raiders 4 for cripes sake! How do you ruin Raiders? You put Shia in it...
  20. I still maintain that the recreance was a joint decision between KR and spren. It is my theory/opinion that they realized that the Voidbringers came from parshendi bonding to spren and the Bondsmiths came up with a plan to remove their ability to bond entirely. This required the breaking of the KR oaths. If one order "betrayed" the rest by NOT breaking their oaths that explains how the parshendi retained the ability to bond with spren. So the Bondsmiths intentionally broke the ability of human/parshendi to bond, this removes KR as well as voidbringers. Because 1 order kept their oaths this failed. There are more parshmen than parshendi and if this ratio turns out to be 9:1 relative to the 9 orders who broke oaths vs the 1 who did not I would not be surprised.
  21. Shallon will be Odium's champion...just because I do not like her.
  22. Check out David Gemmell, a british author who is actually my favorite author. (Brandon is my favorite living author. ) His Drenai series, starting with Legend, I just love. I tried the first Malazan book 3 or 4 times and cannot force my way through it. It starts off with far too many characters and it is too wide spread I just cannot get into it.
  23. Does anyone else think the reference to the dawn: "It flew upon the day’s last song, to win the race and claim the dawn. " Might be related to the Dawnshards/Dawnsingers at all?
  24. Nooo, what else will we do until book 3 is out if not speculate!
