  1. I think it is reasonably safe to say that the appearance of an Aether on stage on WoR is precisely why Aethers are canon.
  2. I bet it is more of an issue of console saturation in the market. I'll wager that that there are far more each PS3 and 360 consoles actively being used by consumers. if 90+% of the market is on PS3, X360, PS4, PC, and XOne (personally, I don't know anyone who has a WiiU) then there may be little incentive to also include a WiiU version. I agree with Shaggai, though. By a late 2016 release, there will be far fewer X360 PS3 consoles being actively used.
  3. I think it depends on whether you say Say-zed-i-um or Saze-di-um. The former is far more pleasant than the latter. re: not using the word "harmony" on Scadrial: by the same token, I wouldn't expect Scadrians to follow IUPAC naming conventions either (i.e. -ium)
  4. I wonder if the perpendicularities (synonym to stable junction or subset of?) are what are represented on the Shadesmar map by the little man-looking-bits.
  5. WHOA!!!! That is one heck of a line-up that is coming. Totally excited for the W&W 1-2 punch next year. And I got a little bit giddy reading about 'The Dark One'. Always anxious for a new Stormlight book and I am glad to know it is on track for 2016. Was excited for Szeth's flashbacks since each one will be chock full of world building, but Eshonai will likely be the same (which means we will likely get the less verdant flashbacks of Dalinar, but I'm sure they will be valuable as well).
  6. I am a Whovian. Capaldi is my favorite. I like his intensity and the hard choices (I dig the new intro music too; Tubular bells rock!). Favorite companion is Donna because she keeps the Doctor grounded and is a very active participant in their adventures. Donna is not a passenger. Favorite story is the Empty Child and the Dances. Although, I wish they made something out of the cut on the back of the hand since it turned up in later episodes (e.g., the Doctor's Daughter). The 50th Anniversary (the Day of the Doctor) was great. And Blink is one of my favorites.
  7. This does not seem to be completely accurate. If you'll recall from Legion, Stephen only reads a portion of the Hebrew language book in order to summon the translator aspect (I don't recall her name off-hand). He even tells what's-her-bucket that he only needs to read a substantial portion of a book in order to summon a new aspect. This is one of the key tidbits (in my mind) to indicating that his aspects are more than what Stephen and others believe them to be.
  8. I admit some skepticism about any significance of the choice of a heliodor since it was selected either by Dalinar, a previous holder, or the person (or someone connected to the person) who set the gem. I don't see any significance of the choice. To my mind, perhaps subtle foreshadowing. The representation of the double-eye harkening to the creation of plants and animals seems more potent fodder for theorizing/speculating. Nevertheless, good on ya Weiry. Nice grab.
  9. If you search hard for it, there is a WoB that says that Hoid only travels forward in time. He is very old but has not been necessarily conscious (awake, but not simply sleeping) for all that time.
  10. Is pewter the metal to use to hemalurgically steal Feruchemical gold and Allomantic gold? If so, multiple bullets could be used to steal both abilities, thus rendering Miles's currently charged metalminds wholly impotent for either tapping or burning.
  11. See post #86 above for info on the coin.
  12. I am not convinced. The fact that the listeners can attune precisely to the same rhythm over vast distances suggests that these "songs" are worldwide phenomena each rhythm being itself a worldwide phenomenon which is attunable wherever the listener finds him/herself and enables the listener to synchronize his/herself with all other listeners worldwide who are attuned to the same rhythm. This very much does not seem to me to be a local manifestation of use of investiture. Further, the fact that the stormform listeners can attune to a broader variety of rhythms (with immediately accepted and recognized emotional parallels) suggests that this is rather different than Allomantic bronze.
  13. I think there are some differences. If you'll recall from WoR, Eshonai spoke of "attuning to" rhythms or songs. This indicates that these songs or rhythms are ongoing and that each individual listener joins in when they attune. This seems somewhat different to what Allomantic bronze is capable of.
  14. Names would be especially slick.
  15. Not everyone feels the way Moogle does about Elantris. Personally, I enjoy it quite a bit. That said, I agree that Mistborn should be your next destination. Don't forget to pick up Brandon's YA stuff (Steelheart and The Rithmatist) also. Very entertaining. The Alcatraz series is great for a quick read with lots of laughs. Also, on Brandon's site, there is some excellent short stories to read.
  16. I'd have to read the whole quote again to fully digest your analysis for plausibility, but your first alternative is at the very least good food for thought and certainly merits strong consideration.
  17. I just tried to come up with something that is amusing, grandly self-effacing, and really means very little at all.
  18. I am inclined to think that he will provide some crucial information at some point in the first arc (something on the order of what happened with Sazed in HoA where the source of the information did not have a particularly major role in the lives of the main characters outside of this information). What that information might be I have no idea.
  19. Take it and chuck it into the sea instead (make sure it sinks). The chalklings had to travel on logs and such across the sea to get to other islands. Seems like sinking in the water would be hazardous to their health.
  20. That is assuming that the Everstorm is powered-up by the same mechanism that regular highstorms are. It is possible that the Everstorm becomes weaker over water and gains energy over land. Since it travels in the opposite direction of a highstorm, it may very well operate via completely different atmospheric mechanisms. If that were the case, then Shinovar would still be a nicer (not necessarily nice) place to be. Alternatively, the strength of the Everstorm may be constant.
  21. Splinters can be pieces of dead shards. Although, I don't see any reason so far why a shard would splinter simply because the shardholder was dead. As far as I understand it, the three splintered shards that we know of (Honor, Dominion, and Devotion) were splintered as a result of direct actions by Odium. Mistborn spoilers:
  22. There's an Austria that has kangaroos!!? Welcom to 17S! Your one stop shop for all Cosmere theorymongering. @Quiver: I thought of perhaps Tomasina Riddle or perhaps Tammy.
  23. Sometimes a pronunciation guide is nice. It does get sometimes confusing (tedious) for conversation when my wife and I pronounce names differently. For the most part, it obviously doesn't matter how you pronounce names. The only time it may be desirable to pronounce them correctly is in conversation with others (including the author). On nice thing about Brandon, as Argent pointed out, is that he doesn't mind alternative pronunciation of character names. So, no embarrassment when talking to him about a character. However, for a while there, it seemed that authors felt that their character names needed to be absolutely unique. What we ended up with were a lot of names that readers either stumbled over though half the book while they settled on a pronunciation or they simply glossed over the name or replaced it with some kind of truncation or nickname. In those cases a pronunciation guide is a good thing (although more reasonably or decipherable names might be a better solution). In other cases, you may get more stylistic names that the author uses to establish an identifiable nationality or racial identity for the characters (Tolkien did this in Middle Earth). In such a case, somewhat wonky names and a pronunciation guide do not go amiss (In my opinion).
  24. Nope, the coin idea was positively debunked by Brandon as reported by Aiobheann in post 78 in this thread.
