  1. Your right that Odium can grant Voidbinding/Surgebinding, the one exception to this is bondsmithing due to the lack of adhesion. Yelig-Nar is a unmade Odium whom Odium gave the power of every surge however adhesion was a exception to this because that's Honor's surge. Cultivation could replicate tension but I think that they probably got Honor's help in granting the Nightwatcher adhesion.
  2. While Ishar was on Ashyn I believe their powers were different back then. They had microkinisis not surgebinding and while those appear to mostly line up I would assume he wasn't a bondsmith on Ashyn so Oduim would have given him different abilities. Another point is that the surge of adhesion which most of the bondsmith abilities rely on is stated many times to be purely of honor and has no voidbinding equivalent. The Nightwatcher and Sibling while having more of Cultivation in them do contain honors power to use surgebinding. We also haven't see a Nightwatcher bondsmith before and its also possible their powers might relate to the magic Cultivation uses rather then surgebinding.
  3. Vane, New Hallandren, Abandoned Bar Making this deal had been easier then expected, he barley had time to activate his zinc before she agreed to work with him. Perhaps he had underestimated this girls pragmatism, that was a good trait to have in any associate. It was time to move on now but for some reason she suddenly appeared distracted. Was there something interesting going on outside? Vane realized he has let his guard down once she agreed to help him but his lifesense could now tell that someone was watching him. Was this a planned ambush or something else? Perhaps making a deal wouldn't be so easy after all. Vane leaned over and whispered as to not let the person eavesdropping hear, "You mentioned that there should be no secrets while we work together correct? If that is truly the case would you illuminate me as to who is listening in on us right now? If you planned to ambush me under the pretense of working together you should call that off right now. You'll find I'm a more then capable opponent at close range."
  4. How long do you want Eza to be following Sunwatcher for? He is going to be leaving and try to get in touch with some of his criminal contacts/look for UFO members. If you want to force a confrontation now it would very reasonable to say he detected her presence with his lifesense. I fine with Eza continuing to tail my character but I think we should have them discover each other somewhat soon.
  5. I plan on having my character Sunwatcher start trying to hunt down some UFO/UFO affiliated people. He is specifically looking for anyone that would have their hands on anti-investiture/high quality aluminum weaponry. I know the UFO is a secret organization but does anyone have a UFO character/NPC that Sunwatcher might be able to find? If not I can just sit back and wait for the plot to progress a bit.
  6. Vane, New Hallandren, Abandoned Bar "This is excellent news and I gladly accept. If you want to receive your payment later I'll try to find something that would be sufficient collateral until then. We will have to find a adequate disguise for you however none of the guards should be able to recognize you at a glance. I'm sure the two of us can accomplish great things together starting with exiting the derelict bar.
  7. Vane, New Hallandren Vane had spent the last couple hours pacing. Window shopping and getting dinner had done nothing to relax him. He didn't like waiting around for things but if he returned too early he thought he might scare her off. Hopefully convincing her would be easier now that she has had sufficient time to consider the benefits of his proposal. Hopefully she hadn't run into anyone else before he came back, he hadn't actually bothered to learn her name so tracking her down would be near impossible. It was beginning to get later in the day and Vane hoped to spend the night pursuing leads and tracking down some of his contacts. He had been planning on making some purchases of aluminum clothes and weapons to enhance his arsenal however most of the aluminum flowing into the district had been bought up. If someone was trying to acquire a lot of weaponry particularly aluminum weaponry tracking down some of their suppliers might be a start. If that didn't go anywhere he could always wait. People didn't buy so many weapons if they weren't planning on using them for something big. Vane decided he would finish the chouta he was having on his way back to the bar. It probably still wasn't six hours since they last met but he doubted that either of them was keeping track of the time. He kept a brisk pace and was able to find his way back despite not entirely remembering where the bar was. Despite her initial refusal he felt a kind of kinship with the Metalborn. Having to hide out in abandoned buildings and not knowing who you could trust. It reminded Vane of himself when he was fleeing Nalthis. Hemalurgy had managed to provide him certainty and safety and he was sure it would do the same for her if she accepted. He drank a vial of zinc and reentered the bar this time he would get a definitive answer.
  8. Sorry I haven't posted in awhile school and work took most of my time but I'm ready to get back into it!
  9. Here is my civilization proposal. Althians. They are reptilian with webbed feet, tails, and very powerful jaws. Imagine humanoid alligators or the Lizard from marvel. They were originally humans but were modified by Corruption to be better suited to the swamps of Arvus. Native to Velia region of Arvus. Rather then a unified empire they are collection of about a dozen city states known as the Althian League. They have strong warrior culture where the best fighters usually rule as dictators or share power as a oligarchy. Their cities have relatively small populations due to the difficulties of building in swamps but the ones they have are similar to Venice. The cities make most of the money raiding their neighbors or by offering themselves as mercenaries. They worship all 3 shards in the system as a single deity they call the Great Divine. Their religion says that restraining your emotion or desire is a form of lying to yourself and is sinful. In their eyes the Great Divine values passion and self expression above all else regardless of what form it takes. This has lead to the development of a lot of art and architectural styles developing in their cities and even their combat values style and showmanship over efficiency. Those who are capable of wielding one or multiple MoIs are seen as blessed and called prophets that will elevate their city above the rest. This belief system has led to corruption being very widespread as things like bribes are not seen as criminal but rather a natural part of self expression, however priests that are able to wield Verity's MoI are tasked with finding and executing those deemed to detrimental to the cities functioning. (I'll come up with names for all the city states later but the cities that have the most invested fighters lead the league in their raids and take most of the spoils due to having the Great Divines favor).
  10. Kind of. I'm waiting for Steel Speedster and Lunamor to finish their interaction before I can bring my character back in. During the intervening time it would be cool if he met someone else though.
  11. You've seen Frieren and SAO abridged? Truly you are a man of culture. For SAOA who is your favorite character? I like Fluffles and Tiffany personally, they have made me completely forget what the plot of the original even was with how much these characters were improved. Frieren is easily my favorite anime (Possibly my favorite piece of media in general) there is a lot of good competition though. My top 5 goes: Frieren Death Note Fate Zero Code Geass Re Zero/Kaguya Love is War.
  12. I think all of these shards have the potential to be cool but we should definitely keep it to 3. If we are going to include a shard its going to have to have a big impact and if we have more then 3 we are going to be diluting their impact. 16 magic systems definitely is not a given. That only comes from shards naturally worker together and getting along. Voidbinding isn't directly related to Surgebinding/KR they are just both derived from Microkinesis (At least I think you can correct me if I'm wrong). 3 is enough but I do really like Order's magic system and we can have that separate from it's shard if you want . Also the more shards we have the more complicated it becomes to explain why they are not killing each other. I think we can now move forward to fleshing out other parts of the world now that we have decided on shards.
  13. As much as I like my own shard (Conquest) I voted for Corruption as I think that is a super neat intent that you could have a lot of fun with. Maybe you could create some nightwatcher style hags or warlocks as a magic system for that. I feel we should have a evil, good, and neutral shard so that they can balance each other out and give ourselves more opportunities to make magic systems. Indulgence Corruption and Order seem like they could balance each other out very well or could do Indulgence, Corruption, and Conquest and have a system with the 3 mostly evil shards for more drama.
  14. This is more of a avatar then a shard but I think it could work: Conquest It's a combo of Dominion and Ambition. It's all about war and grandeur as it wants to see people form the largest and most powerful empires. It could have been a Avatar of Dominion that was made before it was shattered and was able to siphon of a portion of Ambition when it was taken down my Oduim and has since been hiding on a random planet. It's magic system could be similar to Aon Dor and Awakening where people can draw power from the land they control to enhance their abilities and make shadow soldiers etc. I fine not voting for my own shard but I think it's generally fine if others want to. We could also do something like the Rorsharan system with 3 planets for 3 shards. Polls are fine I think it the easiest way to make a decision.
  15. This is pretty cool! The radiants seem like melee focused T-sons with their abilities. It would be cool to get a ability like doombolt using surge of division or having extra movement or deep-striking with gravatation. If your doing mistborn having coinshots get extra AP and range with investiture could be nice.
  16. "I think therefore I stick" "Stick is all and Stick is one" The glorious stick is both a stick and the entire universe. Its greatness is something we can scarcely comprehend. Fire fits somewhere in its grand designs but it is not our place to question the stick's wisdom.
  17. Szeth. The very first time we see him he is a absolute demon in combat. The mystery as to what his powers are and who his is gives WoK such a strong start. Also his fights with Kaladin are some of my favorite in the series.
  18. This sounds like a lot of fun, you can definitely count me in.
  19. Taravangian is pretty smart and he has a whole planet to help him figure out a solution. It would make sense if Warlight isn't compatible as Surgebinding/Radiants are a combo of Honor and Cultivation so it makes sense that a combo of their lights would be able to fuel it. Oduim powers Voidbinding not Surgebinding so it's influence could make the light incompatible or reduce its efficiency. Retribution may be able to change the structure of the oaths or create a whole new magic system that works for him. To me the most likely solution would be to use Raysium and some fabrial shenanigans to separate the lights. If Navani can figure out how to make Warlight then someone should be able to unmake it. Maybe a anti-light explosion would work similar to how Atuim and Lerasium are produced by splitting harmonium, but that might be a bit too destructive to test.
  20. Most Allomantic powers are combat related which I truly have no use for. If I'm going with compounding I want Zinc. It's one of the cheaper metals and I'll become pretty much the greatest genius in human history. If we are being more balanced and not using compounding it would have to be A-Zinc and F-Duralumin. Being able to control people and get them to trust me will be helpful for every single interaction in life. Struggling to make new friends or find a partner? Just tap a truckload of connection and riot trust and friendliness, its that easy. Getting promotions from your boss, avoiding fights, and forging new relationships all becomes a cakewalk. Also imagine all the people you could save with these powers. If you were a politician, hostage negotiator, or therapist you could save countless lives. Conflict de-escalation is such a critical skill that not many people have and this combo makes you a master at it. Imagine if Kaladin had this power. His therapy would become the stuff of legends. Flying or being strong sounds cool but after 10 years I would find that just a normal part of my life. Unless you plan on being a soldier you got to think of powers that are practical which I think this combo is. My second twinborn combo I like is much simpler. A-Zinc and F-Chromium. I would become the god of poker/gambling and no-one could stop me! However it's a bit unclear as to whether Chromium stores luck or fate and I'm also not wanting to get a heart attack or some other BS while I'm storing luck.
  21. Its hard to say which is better. Both have excellent plot. Both have excellent worldbuilding but have focused their attention in different areas (Sanderson has best Ecology, Tolkien has best Linguistics). I'd say Sanderson writes more dynamic stories and the fact that he has written way more gives him some points. Still many of the highs of LOTR eclipse the highs of SA also LOTR is done and the Cosmere is still in development so its hard to judge at this point. Things for Brandon could get better or they could get worse. WAT was excellent in my opinion but Lost Metal was probably my first Brandon book I disliked. At the end of the day the most fair comparison in my eyes is to compare their best characters. It obviously comes down to The Stick vs Tom Bombadil. The Stick's power was so great that it's interlude was removed because the goated line "I am a stick"x100 would have overshadowed the rest of the book. On the other hand Tom Bombadil is probably is the greatest singer in human history. Peter Jackson knew there was nobody that could capture the godly aura he gives off and so had to leave him out. This is truly a battle of titans and I might have to create a poll to see what the Sharders think about this.
  22. I think F-Steel would synergize very well. Wayne fights by running up to someone and trapping them in a speed bubble. If you have F-Steel you don't to worry about being shot while running after your target and once your speed bubble ends you can flee/find new targets very quickly. F-Steel is also one of the easier attributes to store. I love Wayne but being sick whenever I'm not fighting sounds miserable. Compounding Bendalloy sounds nice till you realize how expensive it would be. Miles had to resort to crime to fuel his compounding and I'd imagine you'd have to do the same. If we talking about these powers on their own I'd probably join the army if I had Bendalloy compounding. If you have a army of soldiers that don't have to worry about packing food and water you could move troops much faster and solve a ton of logistical problems. The army would also be willing to pay for my metals. At the end of the day though that sounds less fun the dashing around and being on the frontlines of a fight.
  23. This thread has caused my brain to expand and has made think about wetness on a deeper level then I ever have before, many thanks to all of you. Personally I don't think water is wet or perhaps I don't think it is right to describe it as wet in conversation regardless of semantics. If you are being technical I suppose you could say that it is touching itself and is therefore wet but I think a modified Incredibles quote is pertinent here, "If everything is wet nothing will be". If water is by itself it nullifies its own wetness or at the very least using wet as a descriptor becomes irrelevant. I could also argue that water is in a quantum state of wetness that only locks in upon observation but that might be above my pay grade. There is also another quote that is semi relevant, "if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to here it does it make a sound?" Obviously it does but that fact is kind of nonsensical to point out much like water being wet. I've also heard that fact that fire is hot as a similar statement on this thread but I feel that is a bad comparison. Fire is hot but would you describe fire as "on fire" is fire lighting itself on fire? I don't think so, fire can only make other things on fire. The same way dirt isn't dirty on it's own but if I cover myself I dirt I become dirty. The correct descriptor is that water is liquidy or watery and not wet. Wetness isn't a innate trait but rather a applied status. My final example is paint is isn't painted but when I cover my room in paint it becomes painted. Hopefully those of you who have made the claim water is wet see the error of your ways now. Actually discard everything I have previously said I now know the definitive way to solve this conundrum. We must all create/find elemental beings of water and ask if they feel wet.
  24. I feel its highly unlikely lesser spren could evolve into true spren just because there creation methods are different. Domesticated spren is definitely something that should be explored though. In the same way that Syl grew more aware as her bond with Kaladin grew I imagine you could create a rapport with a flame/windspren. I don't think individual spren are capable of much. They just don't have enough investiture or strength in the physical realm to do much. However, with bondsmithing or some other way to increase connection a herd of lesser spren could do a lot. Radiant plate is just many lesser spren forming together. It could be possible to bypass the oaths and make a shardplate fabrial if you have command of enough lesser spren. More powerful regular fabrials is also a strong possibility. I feel the end goal could be making humans similar to singers or ryshaduim. Amaram's army bonded void spren during the battle of Thaylen Field so humans are clearly capable under special circumstances. Imagine a army of humans all 10 feet tall or able to leap large distances with gravitation spren. You could also gain Kaladins early windrunner power of deflecting arrows with windspren. Moash had some crazy crystal spikes in his eyes and I imagine trapping some spren and implanting them would be a excellent way to facilitate a lesser spren human bond. Making friends with them also works but at the end of the day hemalurgy is easier. I think the 3 most useful things you could potentially do with lesser spren are: making new fabrials such as shardplate or better half-shards. Use herds of spren to cause chaos in enemy ranks/mess up their fabrials. Make a form of proto-singer with humans gaining the enhanced physical stats of a ryshadium etc. These seem like ways to dramatically boost the power of the average Rosharan but unfortunately the phrase herding cats comes to mind when thinking of this idea. Maybe with Lord Ruler levels of emotional allomancy you could pull it of but otherwise I think being spiked would be less emotionally taxing.
