  1. That makes sense. Sorry, I just got used to seeing kids on Facebook that it never crossed my mind that some parents might have problems with it. In any case, have fun with FB, @ShadowLord_Lith! Edit: By kids on FB I only meant early teens--tons of them where I live-- though I do have a cousin who lets his 9-year-old son have an account.
  2. Just finished my second day in Tokyo. (BoM Spoilers) Today me and my folks got to visit a couple of temples, ate some sushi from a conveyor belt, went on a couple of boat rides, ate some takoyaki, and explored Odaiba. I still have Pokemon Center and Akihabara on my list, so I'll make sure to visit them tomorrow even if I have to go on my own. Wish me luck!
  3. Done. @BeskarKomrk's suggestion made sense so I added a note like that in the Shadesmar article. I feel that there is still a lot to improve on both articles, but I'll let you guys work on them for today.
  4. I know. I apologize for the unclear language, but in-world the word Shadesmar is a Rosharan word, so I sometimes use it to refer to the Cognitive Realm on Roshar. Of course, the fact that it's just a word for the Cognitive Realm is stated in my draft (though maybe I should make it clearer). In any case, @Windrunner, the Shadesmar article contains a lot of detail about the Cognitive Realm on Roshar, and some of that stuff (e.g. the ardents' awareness of Shadesmar, the need for Stormlight, "truths", etc.) will seem unnecessary in an article about the Cognitive Realm in general. I propose that we keep the Shadesmar article Roshar-specific (e.g. remove the references to Secret History, Sel, etc.) and put all the general Cognitive Realm stuff in a separate article, as I plan to do. Edit: I found some free time to create another draft, this time of my proposed Roshar-centric version of the Shadesmar article. I think it's definitely an improvement readability-wise. I just feel that, when more information from various non-Roshar regions of the Cognitive Realm arrives, it would be unwise to try and fit all of those in the same space as all the Shadesmar information that we got from the Stormlight Archive. The special familiarity that Rosharan scholars and Surgebinders (both historical and modern) have with their side of the Cognitive woods makes their knowledge worthy of its own page, I believe. So please, I ask that we create a separate page for the general Cognitive Realm, and leave the Shadesmar article be Roshar-centric. If the Coppermind admins agree to this proposal, I will replace the Shadesmar article with my version and create the Cognitive Realm article based on my draft.
  5. Now that we know a bit more about the Cognitive Realm beyond just Shadesmar, I think it's time to make a separate Cognitive Realm article (currently it just redirects to Realmatic Theory). I have taken the liberty of making a draft in my user space. It still needs some work, and there is a bunch of references still left to be cited, but I am going on a four-day vacation and I don't have time to research those references. If anyone wants to take over, feel free to do so. Otherwise, I'll continue my work on the article next week.
  6. It's also possible that Khriss visited Nalthis just when the Five Scholars were on the verge of Cosmere awareness (i.e. just before learning how to Worldhop). We've already seen an essay by Khriss about a planetary system written before the actual story set on that system, namely the essay on the Drominad system (although to be fair, Sixth of the Dusk is set waaay into the future relative to other cosmere stories).
  7. Creating that symbol was mostly Isaac's responsibility anyway, and he created it as far back as last year, even though it wasn't used in either SoS or BoM. So it's easy to imagine Brandon forgetting, what with the amount of things on his plate.
  8. Edit: Sorry for the stupid Monty Python reference, @Blightsong. Here's a more serious question: What is your favorite magic system from any author?
  9. Also, knowing which part of a Shardworld's magic wasn't brought about by any of the 16 is extremely valuable when making theories about the cosmere's general laws of magic. This is the kind of stuff people like me live for. As for ettmetal being harmonium, while I was totally off about (among other things) what harmionium is made of, I'm glad to see that I'm pretty much spot on about it being the thing used in Southern tech. W00t!
  10. I think the only answer for which there is any evidence is that the huge amount of Investiture won't stick, and that the would-be ascendant will just be a Sliver in the end, just like Rashek. I mean, it's not conclusive evidence, as we don't know if the Well of Ascension (despite its name) has enough of Preservation's Investiture at full capacity for a person to become Preservation while the Shard had no Vessel, but it's still evidence. Edit: Didn't see @Spoolofwhool's post, which already mentioned the Well. Whoops.
  11. Ah, well. Can't be helped, I guess. Thanks for the infobox, @Windrunner.
  12. Sorry, I keep on forgetting that what is obvious to me might not be for others. Let me explain. The souls of the particulate ring would not appear on Taldain's Cognitive Realm sky because even if each particle in the particulate ring has a strong enough Cognitive aspect to appear on the Cognitive Realm (which I doubt), they would obviously not be on the Taldainian Cognitive Realm, but on some other (possibly adjacent) space on the Cognitive land, just as every other non-star celestial object is laid out. Stormlight and Secret History spoilers: So yeah, the things that people see in the sky on the Physical Realm are not what they see in the Cognitive Realm's sky. That's another reason why I don't think the particulate ring on the Darkside sky will be visible there. That is also why I stated that the sun on Cognitive is the same as sun on Physical in a speculative manner in the OP, because we are not certain of that yet.
  13. It mainly depicts the Rosharan Cognitive Realm, yes, but the Expanses that you see in the corners are actually not on Roshar. As was mentioned in the OP, we already know that the Expanse of the Vapors corresponds to Scadrial. As for "densities", the only thing that comes to mind is varying atmospheric densities. There was a WoB early this year implying that the Dor's power raged around the Cognitive Realm on Sel like a highstorm. I made me think that it's a place with extremely strong and dense winds blowing everything apart.
  14. The Iriali culture. Ym summarized their traditional beliefs (which apparently are no longer well-known):
  15. Welcome! You're done with Hero of Ages, right? The Wax and Wayne books of the Mistborn series explores what happens to their world after that. Also, if you liked the Reckoners series then I highly recommend the Rithmatist, another non-Cosmere story. As for the cookies, they are made by people you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley. Feel free to eat them if you wish, but there are... consequences...
  16. But that point has already been made in previous posts. The point I was trying to make was that the correlation is not strictly exclusive. It's much more complicated than saying that this power belongs to that Shard. That's why I bolded the parts that I did.
  17. The title is in reference to @RShara's Physics of the Taldain System thread. This is a sort of counterpart of that thread that we can use to speculate on Taldain's Cognitive Realm. Just as in the Physical Realm, the binary star system around Taldain leads to interesting questions in the Cognitive Realm. First, there is the general question of whether the Cognitive Realm's sun corresponds to the sun in the Physical Realm. Like, are Worldhoppers seeing the soul of the sun? If so, then Darkside Worldhoppers will see a different sun from Dayside Worldhoppers. The Darkside Cognitive Realm sky would probably be free of the "particulate ring" that Khriss mentioned, so they'd see their "sun" unhindered. I really like @Glamdring's theory that the "white dwarf" is actually a black hole and that the particulate ring is the accretion disk. If that's true, I wonder what a black hole looks like in the Cognitive Realm.
  18. Ah, yes, the age old question of which Shard owns which power. To defuse the tension here somewhat, allow me to increase the confusion by supplying two of my favorite WoBs on the matter: As a note here, the powers granted by all of the metals—even the two divine ones—are not themselves of either Shard. They are simply tools. And so, it's possible that one COULD have found a way to reproduce an ability like atium's while using Preservation's power, but it wouldn't be as natural or as easy as using Preservation to fuel Allomancy. The means of getting powers—Ruin stealing, Preservation gifting—are related to the Shards, but not the powers themselves. (Source.) (Source.) Emphasis (in bold red) mine. Enjoy.
  19. I doubt anyone other than the most hardcore fans (or minor fans who are huge astronomy nerds) actually care about the planets outside the main ones where the stories take place. Still, you are correct that Khriss doesn't use the star name for the planetary systems (except maybe the Drominad system; we still need to ask Brandon whether "Drominad" refers to the system's star). This is perhaps because cosmere scholars are understandably more interested in Shardworlds and planets with perpendicularities than any other celestial object. They are philosophically geocentric in that way. Nonetheless, we write wiki articles for every cosmere thing on which we have a significant amount of info, and we do know several things about the star Mashe, so I wrote a Mashe article. It just so happened that the information we have about Mashe is all about the stuff orbiting it. Even in Wikipedia, articles of stars with planetary systems include details of the planetary systems. The only Wikipedia article about a star whose planetary system has a separate article is Earth's sun, and I suspect it's mostly because we know a ton of things about our own sun other than what's orbiting it. Anyway, since we don't have other star names I can't really complain if someone makes articles for the Scadrian, Taldain, and Threnodite systems (as Khriss calls them), as we don't really have any choice. Edit: @Windrunner, I have renamed the Planetary System of Mashe to The Selish System. "Selish System" already redirects there. I hope that will suffice.
  20. So, I guess Wyndle couldn't bond Ym because some other spren got to him first. Makes me wonder if there are other characters that multiple spren have been racing to get at.
  21. I'd like to use this opportunity to inform my fellow Coppermind contributors that the correct term for a system of planets orbiting a star is planetary system. A star system is a system of stars orbiting each other (so, the Taldain system is both a star system and a planetary system). Also, I've seen Coppermind contributors (and even Brandon himself) use "solar system" to refer to planetary systems, but technically the solar system is the planetary system of the star Sol, which is what we Earthlings call our star in Latin. Also, in the future when Brandon reveals more names of stars I think it would be better to use the star's name for the article on its planetary system, like what I did for Mashe.
  22. Oh, I remember that. It doesn't explicitly say that Ivory had white skin, but rather it's described as having a "mother-of-pearl sheen". This means his skin is iridescent, not necessarily white (Wikipedia even mentions a black variety of mother-of-pearl). But yeah, it's possible Ivory's skin looks like white nacre. That might be why he's called Ivory.
