  1. I'm wondering if I should join this. High Priestess Kamyth, would you mind demonstrating your Church's devotion to Wayne by giving a nice mixed drink recipe?
  2. So far the only inheritable form of Investiture we know of from published books are Allomancy, Feruchemy, some attributes taken via Hemalurgy, the body manipulation ability granted by the Divine Breath (which the Idrian royalty has somehow inherited), and whatever it is that gives Shardbearers their brightly-colored eyes. (I left out a couple of possibilities from an unpublished book.) Other than those, the Worldhoppers' kid may or may not gain access to other manifestations of Investiture on the Shardworld he was born on, depending on whether he qualifies for any Initiation process. For example, he'll gain a BioChromatic Breath if he was born on Nalthis no matter who his parents are, as long as Endowment decides that he will.
  3. Kaladin should totally find a Stormwarden to teach him their script. It happened because someone in the past wrote a very influential book called Arts and Majesty that promoted these strange gender roles. I'm pretty sure pre-Aharietiam Rosharans weren't like this, since we know from WoK that Nohadon had male scribes.
  4. My avatar is a spikeless Allomantic crescent symbol and a spikeless Feruchemical angle symbol combined, to show that I am a Scadrian without any powers. The way they're combined makes the angle part look like a thick spike, which symbolizes the ability to use the Metallic Arts even without being Metalborn (e.g. the mechanical Allomancy of Southern Scadrians). My signature was once full of spoiler tags to contain all my favorite 17th Shard related stuff. The admins didn't like that so much, hence the highly abridged version you now see below. The new sig also has a link to my About Me page (which can also be accessed by clicking on my avatar), where I've placed all the content from my previous sig (and then some).
  5. Americans drive on the right side of the road because they don't want to drive on the wrong side. (I live in the Philippines. We drive on the correct side of the road as well...at least most of the time.) Edit: Where I live, the only Boxing Day we know is when Manny Pacquiao has a fight and everyone stops what they're doing just to watch. Seriously, those days are when the roads are empty and the crime rate goes down. Now that's what I call a holiday!
  6. I read it and didn't hate myself, but I can understand why people who hate being spoiled would hate themselves for reading it. So, for those planning to use Amazon's "Look Inside" feature, I would just like to reiterate what everyone here has said: DON'T SPOIL YOURSELF IF YOU DON'T LIKE SPOILERS. I mean, seriously, that would just be stupid of you, doing what you don't want to do.
  7. I couldn't find it either. I think perhaps we are just remembering the parts of AoL and SoS where the villains are compared to Kelsier and his crew and unconsciously mixing those with WoBs stating that Kelsier was a psycopath, such as this: What new article are you working on, if I may ask?
  8. As Kamyth said, Brandon mentioned it in an interview. We call these bits of information that he reveals outside of the books "Word of Brandon" or WoB. Here's the WoB (taken from here) regarding genetic interference: That WoB in particular isn't verbatim. A person just paraphrased what Brandon told her, which makes it not as ideal as a verbatim WoB. Here's a verbatim WoB that basically says the same thing as the one above:
  9. Ati was a soulless Voidbringerredhead. (I'll stop now. For what it's worth, I think red hair is cool.)
  10. That would only work if Ashravan had a world-hopping ancestor from Yolen who descended from Leras. And that would only work if Leras was able to procreate before gaining the Shard of Preservation and going on an interplanetary adventure with his friend Ati/Ruin, and if his family survived any Shattering-related calamity on Yolen. Seriously, at the timeframe we're looking at, if Ashravan descended from Leras then, according to the concept of the identical ancestors point, everyone on Sel would be descended from Leras. Ashravan wouldn't even be special in that regard, prominent nose or not. If anything, he'd just be one of possibly millions of people with the dubious honor of being Lerasnosed.
  11. I know this was meant to be a non-serious thread, but being the obsessed addict that I am, I can't help taking the Cosmere seriously. So I've decided to help you guys is determining whether or not a certain story could fit the Cosmere. Things that make it impossible for a story to fit the Cosmere: It is set on Earth (sorry, @Unodus). From Brandon: "I just don't want Earth in the Cosmere at all, even a bizarre sort of version of Earth." It is not set in a dwarf galaxy. The Cosmere stories are set in a star cluster within a dwarf galaxy. I guess it's possible to imagine that a story is set outside of the Cosmere dwarf galaxy but within the same universe, but that's technically no longer Cosmere. It involves physically traveling to the past. That is not allowed in the Cosmere. But as you all know, experiencing visions of the past is allowed. Things that make a story fit the Cosmere less: It involves alternate dimensions that number more than two. In the Cosmere, the pysical world exists side by side with two other worlds: the Cognitive Realm and the Spiritual Realm, the world of ideas/thoughts and the world of ideals/souls. Having many alternate dimensions, especially if they don't fit the "world of thoughts" and "world of souls" concepts, makes it very hard to fit a story in the Cosmere. One possible way of fixing this is if the other dimensions might actually be other planets, but that would be difficult to justify if the dimensions are very similar to each other. It mentions any specific location that exists in our universe. This veers close enough to "Earth is Cosmere" territory to be uncomfortable (at least for me). I think it's easier to imagine something to be Cosmere if there is absolutely no evidence of the possibility for Earth (or space-faring Earthlings) to be involved. Things that make it easier for a story to fit the Cosmere: Intent is important in its magic system/s. The magic system/s are linked thematically to a certain concept, making it easier to imagine that a Shard of Adonalsium is involved. Religion is involved in the story. This would at least fit the theme of most Cosmere stories so far, and could be used to think of possible Shards. I've just finished The Black Prism by Brent Weeks and from what I've seen so far the Lightbringer series seems to fit the Cosmere. I'll read the rest of the series before commenting further.
  12. Welcome to the 17th Shard! Ashravan is not Leras. A lot of people can be said to have a prominent nose. Good luck on your next theory, Muply21! See you around!
  13. Ah, pardon my lack of reading comprehension. I failed to notice the "alloys" in your previous post for some reason. You are correct that there are no WoBs saying that anyone who could burn lerasium could also burn the "Misting" lerasium alloys. I think it's a safe assumption to make, though. Edit: There is no "if" about it: Another source is the Table of Allomantic Metals in Brandon's site. Zoom in on the lower right corner to read the following: "In alloy form, it produces various expanded physical and enhancement effects, including the creation of Mistings."
  14. Searching for lerasium in the Theoryland Interview Database resulted in the following WoBs: There are probably other related WoBs outside of Theoryland, but I think those two should suffice. The second one is useful in contradicting those who claim that "anyone" only means "anyone born on Scadrial".
  15. Vasher's original Returned name (the one given to him by the Cult of Returned) was Warbreaker. Vancer might still have been his pre-Returned name, though.
  16. It is, and it's probably because of her family's Horneater blood, which means she has Parshendi blood as well. The belief that gingers don't have souls is just a misunderstanding. They're not soulless, they're just Voidbringer spawn.
  17. Correct. Here's the relevant quote, from when Harmony was talking to Wax:
  18. You're a hoopy frood who really knows where his towel is.
  19. Welcome to the 17th Shard! What did you think of the new Hoid scene in the Elantris Tenth Anniversary Edition?
  20. So, just to be sure I'm understanding you correctly, does it look anything like the image I attached?
  21. Bands of Mourning spoiler
  22. Tobacco smoking Spelling mistakes, especially when I make them Non-constructive criticism Failure to verify audacious claims Bad documentation
  23. You might be referring to this thread.
  24. Sure, but have we met any non-Hemalurgic character who treats Harmony the same way Spook treated Kelsier? I don't think so. Wax certainly did not. But then, the way Pathians are explicitly taught not to think about their god too much doesn't exactly inspire strong religious feelings in people. His own religion undermines adoration instead of cultivating it. (This is probably by design, as Sazed doesn't want to be worshiped.)
