Wow this excerpt is finally up! It's refreshing to read such a brutal Dalinar. His flashbacks must be so much fun, which makes me get more hyped about book three As for the archer, judging from his appearance, I tend to believe he is an oldblood, maybe Teleb?

Man, I love them both. WoK introduced Roshar and all those lovable characters to me, helping me undergo the worst time of my life. It always has a special place in my heart. But if I have to choose, I think I will go for WoR, since I spent one year and a half translating this monster book, and I appreciated everything in it =) The story began to unfold, more characters appeared, more mysteries surfaced! SA would definitely get better and better.

About the Ars Arcanum
Vax should be a new planet. The best guess is that it is where Dark One takes place.
About the bonus stuff
That Hoid chapter is really a big surprise, just like an Easter egg appearing at the end of a movie! It's amazing that he talks with a skaze XD

According to Peter, Nale is pronounced like "sale", and Hoed reads HOE-EED.

You can check the chronology on the wiki: HERE. It says "Shadows for Silence comes in the latter half of the chronology, but before the Stormlight Archive".
Here is the WoB:

Shadows for Silence - where does it fall in the overall cosmere timeline, in relation to the other books?
BRANDON SANDERSON
[Paraphrased]In the latter half of things, but before the Stormlight Archive.

Great work! I really like how you did Dalinar talking to the Stormfather scene

Yes! So we have a chance to pry into future Stormlight artwork! Dying to know more

Hello all, I made some Stormlight Facepalm Memes (based on that official Szeth art drawn by Mr. Inkthinker)
Kaladin
Shallan
Dalinar
You can freely download the memes, edit them and insert any text you like. (Original post: (x))

Missed Gaotona's nation's symbol. Is this question based on the book itself? I mean, I can barely understand the Chinese characters on those symbols, but they seem like random stuff. (Also, surprised to see my depiction of Shai appear in the quiz )

I'd really like to see an animation adaption. I'm with the OP. (Another anime fan here.) The setting and world-building of SA always give me animesque feelings, with all those giant magic swords and magnificent armors, complex magic systems, alien ecology, spirit-like spren, different races and species (with different hair color, eye color and skin tone)... So if they can find a good studio, a such adaption would probably be ideal.
But honestly, I'm happy to see any forms of adaption. If they can make a fair live-action adaption (such as not whitewashing the characters and not adding too much other stuff), that would be the best.

Did all orders of Knights Radiants use Shardplate?
BRANDON SANDERSON
It was available to all of them, and they could (all) use it. Many Knights (not Orders) chose not to. There were Knights who were not soldiers and had not interest in wearing Shardplate.

Hey, szeth, nice to see you here! Welcome to the forum!

As someone who reads these books aloud to people a lot, I will confess that I always give Rock a Russian accent.
Renarin is adorably handsome and I will FIGHT anyone who says otherwise. Even BRANDON.
I always have the impression that if Renarin takes off his glasses, he will be intoxicatingly handsome, just like his brother, and then wow the Alethi court (Well, that happens a lot in anime...)

So... We also need a Szeth's reaction to Stormlight 3 flashback character reveal (Sorry, Szeth.)

Striking news! We can almost safely assume it's Dalinar's book! Oathbringer as title sounds intriguing! Can't wait!!!

Mark Lindberg @MentalMegalodon 11 hhace 11 horas
@BrandSanderson So it's officially his book and not Szeth's any longer?
Brandon Sanderson @BrandSanderson 11 hhace 11 horas
@MentalMegalodon I'll know for sure once I finish the sequence, but I'm leaning that way.
(I know I copypasted it the uglyest way but I didn't know which of the twits copy)
Thanks! Good to know.

Now I'm really confused... Is Brandon trolling us here? Someone needs to ask about it. (Not sure if the AMA still works, but I posted a question just now.)
If it turns out to be Dalinar, I'd be happy because I'd like to know more about Young Blackthorn vs. Young Gavilar vs. Young Navani vs. Shshshsh the Mystery vs. Old Friend Sadeas. And the Nightwatcher. And Dalinar's curse and boon.
But... I WANT Szeth so badly! Shin culture intrigues me. A LOT.

I agree with @Delightful, any Vorin lighteyed woman will do Havah is unique and beautiful!
My second choice will possibly be Shai. For me, those traditional costumes are easy to obtain/make and honestly, I may look a bit like her Plus, I have a set of chisels and some hand-made seals at home.
I would also like to try Spook in HoA just because the whole outfit is so cool

I will always shout out my love for Shallan (with whom I share a lot in common)! And Hoid/Wit! I just couldn't resist the quick-tongue type Kaladin is also a candidate.
In Mistborn, it's Spook
Oh no I almost forgot Vasher/Zahel… Yeah he is also my favourite!

I remember a WoB saying that Kaladin's parents are still alive. Okay, found it:
Q: Are Kaladin's parents still alive, and if so, are they actually mad at him?
A: Yes, they are still alive. RAFO.(Source)

Most people around me do not read fantasy/sci-fi and are not interested in this genre, so I have no chance to recommend SA to them, sigh... Till now, in real life, I've only converted one of my college roommates to read some Cosmere books. I lent her the translated copies of Mistborn Era 1 and The Way of Kings, saying those are really good. Pity that she didn't finish the former, but since she, to my great pleasure, made it through WoK and liked the book on the whole, I assume that can be counted as a successful case. (I would continue lending her SA books, so that I can at least have a friend to talk to...)
When online, I keep posting various SA fan art everywhere. If people ask, "where are those awesome characters from?", I will reply to them proudly, "They are from a new epic fantasy series called The Stormlight Archive. Go read it. You won't regret it!!! BELIEVE ME! JUST GO AND READ IT!" In this way, I think I have achieved more

I'm a pure darkeyes (be proud!), with dark brown eyes and jet-black hair, but I don't think I can make a good Alethi darkeyes because my skin is not that tan...

Translation mistakes
in General Brandon Discussion
Posted
Yeah!
My first read of Mistborn was through simplified Chinese copy, and the translation of that edition is incredibly bad. (The same thing also happened with Elantris.) How bad? There're translation mistakes on almost every page! Especially The Final Empire. The whole fandom (not only the Cosmere one, but also the whole fantasy/sci-fi fandom) was shocked by its bad quality, so we complained, "That publisher brutally ruined Brandon's reputation and his Cosmere series! It's scandalous! It's a sin!" (Fortunately, another publisher wish to do all of Brandon's books anew, and that gives us a chance to read some good translation.)
Some examples of mistakes:
- TLR is called "Sliver of Infinity", but the translator just thought it's "Silver of Infinity" without another glance.
- Pewter should be translated as "白镴", but in the copy-editing process (we suppose), the word was changed into "白蜡" (They read the same.), just because the character "镴" is more complex and uncommon to see. However, "白蜡" means "white wax", which is wrong.
(BTW I've read German Words of Radiance once. The overall translation is nice, but I also found some mistakes. The translator seemed to omit many things. But I'm not sure if it is common in German translation of English fantasy books.)
