  1. Thanks so much for the Wit piece!!!!! XD I saw it on tumblr and must post my appreciation here again! He looks awesome with that smile and costume :)

I agree that Wit is a very difficult character to depict… (more difficult: Hoid himself…) But I like to see Wit art because every artist has his or her own unique rendition :D Does anyone know how old Hoid makes himself look like on Roshar? I always imagine he is probably in his thirties.

Ah Lightsong! I find myself unable to visualize him well but your drawing sheds some light on that. Nice work!

  2. I couldn't decide well when reading the book so I voted unknown. Anyone among these three lads that ends up with Shallan is Ok for me. But I didn't quite expect a possible Kal-Shallan-Adolin triangle. My only hope is that their friendship won't get ruined because of this.

Shallan can very well end with Hoid, I'd be happy for her. That could have  battles of wits day and night. Both are curious, searching for some truth just beyond the horizon, love traveling, wanting to see more and more. To know more and to do more. She can access Shadesmar and they could be worldhoppers together. She will be drawing strange plants and animals while he's gathering stories.

Ah most of me is always on Shallan x Hoid ship! Upvoted! Love to see two clever people get along with each other well. =)

  3. Wow it seems that I've missed lots of new stuff! I should follow this thread because tumblr is not so dependable for me. =)

Ah are there pencil sketches?! They're amazing! (I'm a sketch holic so seeing other people's artwork is one of my favourite things.) And I must say that Wax piece is super awesome. :D

Since WoR is so near with so many new inspirations, I'm really looking forward to your new art!

  4. LOL. Bota ( if you allow call you this way) they sell the book in parts or when you buy you got the whole thing?

Silly question I know but if they sell i parts I almost can see someone screamming when the book enter in some really good part and he didn't buy the whole thing.

Let's say Kal make his jump in the tower and boom the book end. Man I would go running to the first store to keep reading =)

Yeah it's the right nickname =)

Fortunately I got the whole thing when buying the book. If they dare to sell the books separately, most readers are going to be very irritated, and man it's a Sanderson book! Readind it allows no pause! I was flipping through the three books of WoK and found something interesting: Book one ends with Rock saying his super long real name and book two ends with Kaladin giving up his Shards in Amaram's army. The pausing points are clever =)

  5. If you are like most of the Chinese girls I've met in the US, you might need a dedicated backpack just to carry Words of Radiance around...

Yeah it's true! When I was reading WoK, I had to carry it around everyday so that I could read it anywhere. It nearly took up all the space of the backpack… The thickness of WoR is more than that… I think I should do some preparations now since the book will arrive next week.

  6. Tks for the info =)

WOW, give the fact tha WOR will be 80 pages fat WPR Chinese edition will probaly be around 1400 pages, good thing that they split the book because this is crazy =)

Haha if they don't split the book it will surely be thicker than any in-world dictionaries…(Great great tool for muscle building and self-defense!) If they split WoR in four books, I won't be very surprised! =) Most translated fantasy books come out these years are split into several books due to the monstrous thickness. Mistborn trilogy gets six books. Elantris only one book but it's super thick I couldn't even hold it right and the size of the words inside are very small… Stormlight and ASoIaF are the very few that get at least three books for each volume…It's too crazy! And for some people who also like to collect the English version…aww…We are so very doomed!

  7. Hey Botanica, How many pages have this book it looks huge!!!!

Ah let me do a count… The whole set has 1246 pages with 3 pages of blank paper. Book one has 388 pages. Book two has 444 pages. Book three has 411pages. It's crazy!!! I can't image how thick WoR will be…I really worry about my future book shelf…

  8. Ah I LOVED this cover!!! I could stare at it for a long long time but still feel how awesome it is! The cover artist is one of my favourite! (He is also famous for his LOTR and Hobbit art) When I got the news that he would do the WoK simplified Chinese cover, I just couldn't sleep that night because I was so excited! The final one we see on the book is also satisfying. I really hope they would let this brilliant artist to do all the rest books! Once I messaged the artist on deviantART, he said it would depend on the publisher. Well, please let it happen!

Strange what the series titles translate to for the regional demographic. Is that one literally, "The War of Storms"? Different feel than "The Stormlight Archive". French is "The Rosharian Archives". Anyone care to give the direct Chinese translation? My Chinese isn't even conversational.

The Stormlight Archive is called in Chinese "飓光志", which exactly means "The Stormlight Archive". (Stormlight = 飓光 --> Storm = 飓 & Light = 光, and Archive = 志) In Taiwan the series is called "飓光典籍" and "典籍" is another variation of "志" which means "archive". In both versions The Way of Kings is called "王者之路" which also doesn't chage the original English meaning but is interpreted in a delicate way. If translated directly, it is "The Kings' Way". I also heard from the translator that he intended to translate "The Way of Kings" into "王道" (王 = Kings, 道 = Way) which sounds really neat and powerful. But I don't know why they gave up on it. Perhaps they want to keep the title the same as the Taiwan version which came out a bit earlier. Another thing, plural form is not explicit in Chinese so how to interpret "Kings" is another question.

Please note that what we see in the OP picture is not the final version of the cover, the font and the final translation of the title was changed because of some issues. But I liked the artistic feeling of the former font.

Hey guys and gals I think I should share some photos with you since I have my Chinese copy by my side =) Beside the book set there're some gifts the set includes: a bookmark and a pin with the Ten Herald circle for the readers who preorder online, and four postcards for all readers who buy the set. But sadly we don't get the bigger version of these four pictures in the book =(

WoK is split into three books and they are wrapped up by an outer cover skin:

The cover design of the three books is exactly the same except for the change of the line color. Here is book one (back and front):

I posted all the photos I took last year on tumblr when I first got the copy. If you're interested, you can click this link: [X]

Also, the French cover is great! And I'm dying to see the Japanese cover! (I tried some Google search but didn't get anything...)

Apologize for the long post, but I'm serious about art, foreign language and translation =)

  9. Hell no!!! What happened here?! I don't even want to think about the worst option… I must burn a prayer for the Kholin brothers right now 'cause I can't accept the death of either of them. Let's just hope this is not the reality or actually there's something else going on…
