I saw that a few years back, there was a D&D campaign on the site that kind of died out. I was wondering if anybody was interested in starting something similar. Anyone can join anytime, I'll just add you in. You can send me downloads for your character sheets from D&D beyond or a picture or whatever works, and we'll get going. I will play DM, quoting people whenever possible and giving you scenarios. It would be nice if we could have a set time of day to play, and we could post during the rest of the week as whenever. It would just take forever to play if everyone was posting lathargically. I'm EST. I have a campaign ready, I just need interest. Let me know, and hopefully this can be a success.

Hi! I am a big D&D person and I'd love to join if thats okay, but I totally get it if you can't fit me in to the campaign. I won't feel bad or anything, I've DMed before and I totally get it. If you can, could someone fill me in because I don't care enough to go through all the pages and read up myself. Thanks and again, don't feel bad for kicking me out! Edit: I just saw the timestamp. nvm about that

dungeons&dragons Dungeons and Dragons Cosmere Homebrew
TheFrugalWizard posted a topic in Creator's Corner
I am currently working on a Dungeons and Dragons homebrew that is based on Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere. It will include all the known planets in the Cosmere universe, with varying levels of emphasis on each one. I am in search of someone who can assist me with the writing. This is an online collaboration, and there won't be any in-person meetings. It's crucial to note that this is strictly for fun, and I won't be offering any payment. However, if we ever manage to publish it, I will make sure to give credit where it's due and share any earnings. I am searching for someone who has an interest in writing descriptive content. Due to time constraints, I'm more focused on the actual rules. If you have a flair for writing filler material and action-packed content, then you are who I am looking for. Additionally, a skilled artist would be highly appreciated since my current art is AI-generated and is not up to the mark. I also need someone to playtest the project, and if you're willing, we can do it over a video call. Please note that this is a fun project, and I cannot offer any guarantee of payment except for a share of the profits gained (if any).- 2 replies

Most useful twinborn combo for real life
TheFrugalWizard replied to TheSurvivorofDeath's topic in Mistborn
I am going to have to go with either A-Chromium and F-Chromium or A-Bendalloy and F-Chromium. Having extra luck would be Incredibly useful, especially as a compounder. I could literally guess on multiple choice questions. Better luck asking someone out. Everything I do is all but guaranteed success. Beyond that, I could give myself a dump of luck every time they drew a lottery ticket. Bendalloy allows me to pause time, basically. I can throw up a bubble, and do eight hours of work in ten seconds flat. Bullets slow when you're burning bendalloy. Bendalloy also acts as a sort of F-zinc, but you don't have to store it. It also acts as a limited F-Steel, but only within the confines of the bubble. The main problem with this is that you age while burning Bendalloy. Not huge, but if you spend 8 extra hours per day, that's an extra year for every three you spend in real time. That's almost twenty years deducted from the average person. So, bendalloy would be invaluable, but don't overuse it. Final top three: 3. A-Pewter F-Zinc 2. A-Bendalloy F-Chromium 1. A-Chromium F-Chromium -
I think he would do much better as Wax. Straff always knows what he's doing; he has everything planned and perfected. He never gets hand to hand. I do admit, however, that having a wife like Steris could cramp his style. The lord ruler is an oppressive, evil dictator. He has hangings in the town square and shoves spikes though his servant's eyes so he can rip them out and kill them at any time. Timothee Chalamet would be a poor choice for this role. He would do better as Elend.

I love your ideas, however, I do have some feedback. First, your writing isn't nearly as streamlined or specific as it should be. Even just this much raises many questions. How do I gain access to metals? How much of a metal equates to one charge? Should you save flaring for a higher level? This doesn't give an accurate description of exactly how alomancy works. As a contrast, here's what I wrote. Example metal I'm not trying to tell you you're wrong; this is still good stuff. I just think it needs significant editing. I have a 32-page Scadrial ruleset with my version of these rules. Let me know if you'd like to see it.

As I mentioned earlier, I am a big homebrew creator. I am looking for someone to help me out with a big project that I am undertaking; namely, that of creating a full Cosmere homebrew. I am looking for a partner to help me with this. I am looking for someone interested in writing story-focused content and adventures. I am more of a technical rules writer. If anyone is interested in this, please reply. This is only for fun, I will not be going into any legal stuff and I will not be paying anybody. I do intend to eventually sell this (provided I can get permission from Brandon Sanderson and Wizards of the Coast to publish it), and I will give a share in the profits, but I am not going go into such details yet.

I agree with this interpretation wholeheartedly. I wasn't trying to say that the Commands are the only thing that matters in awakening. I was pointing out the pattern that seems to appear in English awakening. I'm not trying to start an argument about the nature of Commands; I would lose nine times out of ten. I simply thought that the pattern was interesting, and that it likely carries over into Cosmere languages. However, I do stand by the fact that Commands have specific structure, and although we can't prove this exists in other Cosmere languages, it's very likely that it does.
-
I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you. The novel made it abundantly clear that Commands only work when given a specific set of instructions. It isn't hard to see that there is a pattern to the commands similar to the one I described. If using Commands were so ambiguous, then there wouldn't be such a big deal about "discovering new Commands." Awakeners could simply make up and Command phrase, as long as it was concise, it would work. This is not what the book leads me to believe. There is a pattern, and for the most part, Commands that don't follow the pattern won't work.
-
Yes. I should have clarified in the title, but as I haven't finished SA or Dawnshard yet, I am clearly ill informed about how widespread the term "command" is. I apologize for the ambiguity. I was merely referring to Nathalian awakening.
-
I absolutely agree with you. My purpose, however, is not to explain why commands work or how to use them, but the specific mechanics of the commands themselves. Warbreaker not only explicitly stated but also illustrates that commands have to use specific wording, in addition to the intent behind them, in order to properly awaken something. I am not trying to restate what we already know about Intent and its importance in the Cosmere, but trying to explain the mechanics of the commands themselves. Elantris Spoilers

I have a theory about how commands for mindless objects work in Warbreaker. Based on analyzing the various commands used throughout the novel, I have developed a theory that I am fairly confident in. The core of a command is the verb. This is universal throughout the commands. There is a central verb that describes what the object is to do. Some examples used in the novel are "Grab," "Hold," and "Climb," among others. There are slight variants from this rule, often taking the form of partial verb phrases like "Fight for." The second part of a command is the subject. Only three types of subjects are used in Warbreaker; "things," "me," and "something (representing saying a specific object as the subject)." This appears in most commands except for when the subject is the object itself, like "Untie." The third part of a command doesn't appear in most commands. An awakener can optionally add an adjective to their command phrase, describing how to carry out a command. A great example of this is when Vasher commands a pile of clothes to "Fight for (verb) me (subject) as if you were me (adjective). If I missed something or am misunderstanding something, please let me know.

I enjoyed this book a lot. It had Brandon's classic style, and the reveal at the end, showing how interconnected everyone was gave me flashbacks to Warbreaker. You can probably tell I enjoyed it. I am the Frugal Wizard, after all! Anyways, I was laughing about this. I was trying to get an AI to generate a picture for my homepage. I think this proves that Bing can get drunk.

Sorry it took so long, but here is the completed Scadrial handbook (not finalized for publication yet). It has races, classes, and monsters. I'd would really love feedback. HB-Mistborn (1).txt

Okay, thanks for pointing that out. I had remembered seeing something like that, but I must have missed it.

What if you calculated it a different way? It mentions that Vasher had enough Breaths in the prologue to see colors perfectly. We'll say he has around 600 Breaths total, being conservative. Also, I couldn't find the quote, but it mentions that that amount of Breaths could have fed a peasant family for 50 years. In 2022, the average household spent $5,080 on food, with 2.5 average people per household. Multiply that by the 50 years it mentions gives a total of $254,000 spent on food over the 50 year span. Therefore 600 Breaths is roughly equal to $254,000. Divide that number by 600 gives you a grand total of... $423 per breath. Using the first example to calculate, $5,080 divided by the average 2.5 people per household comes to $2032 dollars per person per year. Multiply that by eight gives you around $16,300 for Jewel's whole family for the year, thus the Breath would be worth about that much. I'm curious to know if I've missed something, or if this is simply a discrepancy.

I don't know if you can see my suggestions on your google doc, but I'm using a separate homebrew site (highly recommend, completely free, no ads or anything: https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com). I will revise and post it in a couple of weeks. Also, I'm just going to avoid the spiritual metals for now, since I have no clue what they do.

Power poaching via hemalurgy
TheFrugalWizard replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This push and pull relationship is unique to Scadrial, and I think that it would exist in much smaller proportions than we see in Harmony. Also, in era 2, we see that the other shards are threatened by Sazed, having two shards. It's clear that he has more power than any other shard. -
Power poaching via hemalurgy
TheFrugalWizard replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Okay, that makes a big difference, because something with a finite amount of power can be added to or subtracted from. So theoretically, if a shard were to destroy another shard, both of them getting killed in the process, and a mortal were to seize both of their powers (like Sazed), then they would have more power than any other individual shard. They could then go around killing all of the shards and taking their power, thus reuniting all 16 shards. Another thing--Preservation. He had less power than Ruin during the course of era 1. Now, Brandon did say that it wasn't gone, just in a different form, this still suggests a finite amount of power, again, because it can be subtracted from. -

Before I can reply--just curious, does Brandon ever say that a shard has an infinite amount of investiture? -
Power poaching via hemalurgy
TheFrugalWizard replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Okay, but theoretically, Harmony consists of two shards combined. So, if all of the shards were to clash at one given point, and all be destroyed, then a human could technically sieze the combined powers of all of them, thus becoming Adonalsium. Also, I think that someone who has been spiked with all the powers might just be able to challenge a shard. They would have a taste, however small, a bit of each shard, and I think that they could therefore have a small amount of Adonalsium's original power.
