  1. I imagine 'stronger' in this sense would mean clearer. The stronger the flare, the clearer and crisper the vision, until at some point I imagine it would become something like SA Spoilers like the Unkeyed Dor the Allomancers use to hyper-charge their Allomancy in TLM. People have made arguments that this is what happens when you Compound Copper.
  2. I agree with Alder, Gold and Malatium probably work through Connections to the past (since we know Spiritwebs have some awareness of time given they can keep track of how old person is), so Nicrobursting/Duralumin flaring them would probably give you a vision of the past à la Kelsier's vision during his death, even if its brief, through the Spiritual Realm
  3. Vivenna's sword does act like a Shardblade, at least in terms of attacking the spirit and cutting through inanimate matter. It's closer to a Deadblade than a Living Shardblade in terms of consciousness, but it does have at least a rudimentary mind of some kind, considering the way Vivenna talks about it on the Honorspren ship.
  4. So it's like the object becomes more and more massive (without actually changing physically at all) until you can't accelerate it in a direction away from its system anymore? Kind of like Gravity, except it gets stronger the farther you go rather than the inverse. So there's almost a sort of reverse event horizon around the planet, beyond which the Connected object can't be moved? Interesting. Interesting that it only happens in the Scadrian Subastral (so far as we can tell) considering we know from Kelsier and the Bands of Mourning that metals and peoples' souls are the same at a fundamental level, which is a little confusing, since souls are made of Investiture and metals aren't. Either all metals glow in the CR and we just haven't observed it in Roshar because the metals manifest as beads, or it has something to do with the nature of metals themselves (there's a WoB that I can't find that says metals are weird in the Cosmere, partly because of why Investiture in solid form in the PR is always metallic, at least tangentially (and who knows what's going on with Aluminium)) that only expresses itself in te Scadrian Subastral because of how metal-centric that system is.
  5. Could be. The idea of something becoming so heavy because of Connection that it stops something like a Spaceship is just difficult to imagine. What does weight mean in space anyway? Does it just simply become harder and harder to move, rather than something more conditional like becoming heavier? On that note, what would an Invested object look like in the CR? Humans show up as glowing figures/flames, so maybe they just show up as whatever their Cognitive Aspect is, but glowing. So a Polestone filled with Stormlight would just be a bead in Shadesmar, but glowing?
  6. Was that not in reference to gemstones being moved in the CR rather than the PR? I don't recall exactly which one it was, but I can't think of how they would know that as they don't have the means to move between worlds through the PR yet
  7. Well, there goes that idea. I really don't think Kelsier can use Medallions, or at least that F-Duralumin isn't enough to get around the Connection keeping him bound to Scadrial, since if it could he would have long ago left Scadrial, since he's known about the Southerners for a long time, and it really couldn't be that hard for him to swipe at least one Duralumin Medallion in all that time. That said, once the Scadrians reach FTL technology, would his Connection to Scadrial prevent him from leaving it via the Physical Realm that way? If it can, what happens if he travels to Roshar, then goes through, say, Cultivation's Perpendicularity, and enters the Rosharan Subastral? Does he get yoinked straight back to Scadrial?
  8. Spoilers for Stormlight 5 prequel (are we allowed to discuss that on here as long as it's in a spoiler tag?)
  9. Aren't they diametrically opposed enough anyways that there's still some destructive interference? That's what I assumed was happening when Vin and Ruin were feeling pain by touching.
  10. Similar, but not that one specifically
  11. Now that you mention Harmonium bombs, I wonder if we'll see the South and the Basin do a kind of Cold War Arms race for who can build the biggest and most destructive Harmonium bombs. As for Discordium becoming its own thing, it very well could be possible, since pre-existing Atium was unaffected by Sazed's Ascension. In fact, the pre-existing Harmonium might stay the way it is, and only newly-made God Metal would be Discordium
  12. So, I was just thinking about how God Metals somewhat reflect the properties of their Shard (Lerasium Connects someone to Preservation, Atium makes people into efficient killing machines) and thought of something. Harmony's God Metal is so reactive because his two halves are polarised against each other and are locked in an uneasy equilibrium, and so is pressurized in a sense, which is why it seeks to escape by reacting with something. If Harmony's Intent switches to Discord, and the two halves are no longer in equilibrium, that pressure of them straining against each other goes away. We know from a WoB that I can't find right now that a God Metal's properties can change over time if the Vessel changes; could the same be true for a shift in Intent and the nature of the Shard? Once Harmony becomes Discord, could Harmonium (Discordium?) become less or even unreactive, and therefore be used to finally test out its Allomantic, Feruchemical, and Hemalurgiv properties? What are your thoughts?
  13. Interesting theory, I could see any of the options happening other than number 1, Atium is too small to eject all that Preservation Investiture out of a properly Connected Vessel, and number 5, Shards can't control/influence each other that way. If Vin Ascended with the Atium reserve, I'd imagine Preservation's Investiture would just react with the reserve and they would annihilate each other. Number 2 seems likely, It may be Ruin's Investiture but you're still using Preservation's Invested Art, so it could still work by making the Investiture supercharged as it goes back to the Pits. Number 4 doesn't seem possible, you can't change a Shard's Investiture into another's that way. I'll lean towards either Super-Duralumin-like Atium flare, or the Atium being unburnable.
  14. You might be onto something. We know via WoB that F-Duralumin is involved in some way in Medallion creation, this might be it.
  15. The logic is internally inconsistent, Wax realizing that he shouldn't be afraid of death makes him entirely immune to the effects of the Allomancy, yet Marasi, having come to terms with her feelings long ago, can't. She did have the shame to begin with, but it was long gone by the time she gets Rioted, she says as much: It makes a lot more sense for Wax to be burning Copper there. His realization that he isn't actually afraid of death makes the Allomancy dissipate entirely, even though becoming aware that the emotion is artificial or inappropriate never makes Allomancy become ineffective any other time. As for Rioting creating emotions, let's just agree to disagree, the scenes could really be interpreted to provide proof for either interpretation. Entrone calls himself a god, and Kliss remains confident in the face of Allomancy, but Entrone gets Rioted with shame, and Kliss with fear. You could read that as emotions being created, or you could rationalize how and why the person could secretly be feeling the emotion the entire time. At this stage, there isn't enough decisive evidence for either one. Someone needs to ask Brandon, or we should just wait till more content regarding it is released.
  16. She laughs afterward too, before Vin says anything about saving Elend: and she asks for money to keep quiet about the Allomancy. Maybe it's worded differently in your translation, but in the one I have, The scene goes: Facepalm moment. I thought we were still in the Mistborn forum. Exactly, she didn't stop feeling it. Just because she'd already dealt with the feelings didn't mean they evaporated like they did for Wax. They only stopped once she moved out of the area of effect of the Rioting. He knew that he was being Soothed, he walked into a Soothing station knowingly. That didn't stop the effect from taking. True, but again, realizing that you're being Rioted or accepting/moving past the feeling doesn't stop the effect from taking place as it does here. And again, Armal was able to create feelings of shame in both Entrone and Marasi, even though neither of them was explicitly feeling shame at that moment. Entrone calls himself a god, and Marasi is later shown to have already accepted all her shame. You could argue that they could have been, but it's not explicit in the text. Also, your multiplication analogy doesn't fit. You said its like multiplication, 0 times something is still zero, except if that was the case, Vin's Duralumin pull in the Fadrex caves still shouldn't have produced an effect.
  17. I was saying it's only an idea at the moment because Brandon directly contradicted it, but with that last WoB, nothing we decide now really matters until we have more to work with in MBE3
  18. I went back and checked, you're right, I was misremembering that one. So, you're saying that Kliss, who by her own admonition "never sell(s) secrets... if there's a chance they'll turn against (her)", puts her livelihood and security in Vin's hands, which then makes her afraid? That she's afraid because she's risking both Straff and Shan's retribution, even though she was composed enough to laugh in Vin's face and blackmail her for more money about her Allomancy? It's awfully convenient of her to become afraid just as Vin begins Rioting her fear. Again, if you indeed can't create emotions through Allomancy, then it means Brandon is writing ridiculously specific circumstances into the book just for dramatic effect. Shouldn't that be in a spoiler tag? And in that scenario, She isn't using Emotional Allomancy per se, but she is still manipulating them by magic means: It's her Lightweaver Resonance in effect. Besides, her case of making the deserters have a change of heart is slightly different, as she's dealing with disillusioned soldiers, whereas Allriane was dealing with bandits who are described as base and wanting only food, money, and sex. But that line of reasoning isn't relevant any longer, since Allriane wasn't Rioting the bandits into being more moral. As for Wax, I thought he was instinctively burning trace amounts of Copper in that situation, given that in all other instances of someone realizing they're being influenced by Emotional Allomancy in both Eras, they can still feel the effects of it. In the very same book, Marasi has to force her way out of Armal's Shame! Shame! Shame! wave before she stops feeling the effects of the Allomancy. In SoS, Wax himself continues feeling the effects of Soothing even though he finds it disturbing in the Soothing parlor.
  19. I always assumed that Brandon needed a way to create Lerasium for some future plot, and the rest of the plot points (Mistborn-Wax and Mistborn-Wayne) was engineered or modified for future use. The whole Pewternaut bomb debacle could have been solved by Wax handing Wayne the Duralumin Spike he took from Dumad, and Wayne already had a spike for A-Steel, which, when combined with his natural A-Bendalloy, already gives him all three abilities that he used to diffuse the bomb. Because of this, I always just assumed Brandon did some tinkering with the plot after an Idea for future Mistborn novels struck him.
  20. Seems to me the BoM one is just Vendell speculating, so it's not a confirmation, just an idea being thrown around. As for the WoB about Medallions, the way he phrases it makes it sound like there's a farfetched and consulted way to make it work, and it's usually best to not rely heavily on anything Brandon says obliquely. So, you can't get into someone else's Metalmind by just blanking your Identity, but there might be a way to achieve it that's a bit more complicated.
  21. Agree to disagree, I'm very convinced you can, but it's been a while since I read the books so I can't remember any bulletproof examples other than Allriane's Rioting of the sense of chivalry in a bunch of bandits and Vin Rioting fear in Kliss the night she kills Shan (because why would she be afraid prior to the Rioting of what she assumed up till then to be an inexperienced, unimportant countryside noble girl, let alone the fact that she still haggles for payment despite the Rioting). Finding instances of Rioting is hard enough as it is, what with the focus on Soothing, which can't create emotions. It just seems to me that it's logical that Rioting could create emotions, because the alternative cheapens the story every time someone uses emotional Allomancy in a dubious way, because it means Brandon is bending his own rules to pull off more dramatic scenes. As for in the Fadrex caves, Vin's pre-Duralumin Rioting still could have been working, it just wouldn't have been enough to make the guards start fighting. You can be angry and irritable but still have enough restraint to not do anything irrational. Its confusing because we can't see the guards, otherwise their expressions could have given their feelings pre-Duralumin away. Fair, but you could still get away with a lot more than with someone in-world, and if you use the extra dramatic bursts of emotion in (reasonable) moderation (you don't need to be emotional rollercoaster extreme about it all the time anyway, you just don't have to be extremely subtle either), you could avoid being discovered altogether pretty easily. Besides, how often would you need to Riot the same person so many times? I imagine Rioting would be most useful with people who you don't know, since you have fewer tools to work with than against someone you know or spend time with, and what are the odds you'll ever see them again? You can still manipulate someone if they do the opposite of what you tell them, and if they start acting suspicious, you could Riot their sense of complacency and get them to open up about the fact that they think something weird is happening, make them feel silly about it with Rioting and then reassure them and send them off feeling confident and secure, again with Rioting. You could always lay off the Rioting for a while too, at least on that specific person. The solution is situational, but when you can influence both sides, it would be pretty easy to rectify
  22. You can create emotions that aren't there with Zinc, but not with Brass. The emotional subtlety thing goes out the window since in real life why would anyone ever suspect you can control their emotions? It might still be useful to be subtle, but you could definitely be more blatant with it and still not get caught. It is a hard metal to utilise properly since you need to train yourself in recognizing emotions, but with practice its really not that hard. It's a tough choice between Zinc and Pewter for me, but eventually I'd go for Zinc
  23. You wouldn't. Normally, trying to use someone else's Metalmind is like trying to open a lock with the wrong key; Having no key at all won't get you any closer to opening the lock. The only way to 'unlock' a Metalmind so that anyone can use it is to store Identity while you store a different attribute, whereupon the Metalmind will have no lock at all. The F-Aluminium ability is kind of useless in a Ferring or a Twinborn unless you have a Malwish Medallion or Hemalurgic spikes (It may have some effects on its own, but so far we haven't been told what they are). Still, by virtue of Unkeying Investiture on its own, being a Trueself has uses for other Invested Arts, such as Warbreaker Spoilers:
