  1. A funny coincidence
  2. Or at least until we change it again. For those of you who don't know what dice is Brandon posted here way back when talking about a game called Dice Wars that was distracting him from finishing HoA. We decided to give it a shot, and it is delightfully addicting. It's basically like Risk, but simpler and faster. After we beat the AI in dice wars, we moved onto kdice where you play online. It's a lot more challenging but more fun too. Hope to see some new people playing it with us!
  3. Oooh I get it. Sorry the fault was probably mine for unclear communication. I need to be less lazy It's all good.
  4. I can't speak for the first question. But we do know at least a bit about the second one.
  5. I know perfectly well what a Splinter is and the difference between having Splinters and being Splintered. The point I'm making is that most Shards have Splinters, regardless of how it happened (whether they were Splintered by some other Shard or themselves), so at this time, based on the Shards we know about, it is more likely that other Shards we will meet will have Splinters. What Leras and Ati didn't Splinter themselves to create humanity, it seems to have taken nowhere near as much power. We also don't know if Endowment intentionally Splinters itself or not. No other Shard, so far, has seemed to have to take direct action on themselves in order to make part of the magic system work. As for Cultivation, we don't have evidence either way, other then a vision which Honor "recorded" centuries if not millenia before. She could very well have died after that anyway. All of this is beside the point, anyway. I was talking about what fraction of Shards have Splinters, not whether or not they have a living holder or how the Splinters got there.
  6. Well all Shards started out whole, yes. But that doesn't mean it's more likely that they are currently this way. Of the Shards we know exist for sure, and have information on, only Ruin and Preservation for sure and maybe Odium, don't have Splinters. But Devotion, Dominion, Endowment, Honor, and Cultivation all do have Splinters. That's, at best, 5/8. So right now, it appears more likely that any Shards we discover will have Splinters as opposed to not having any. Also, on Roshar, the two Shards we know are currently there for sure are both Splintered. So we know that there's been plenty of Splintering to be had. So it seems to me that it makes it even more of a possibility that in the unlikely event that there is a third (non-Odium) Shard on Roshar that it probably has Splinters as well. I see it (perhaps incorrectly) as it being like dropping a box with three plates inside of it. If you open it up and find that two of them are damaged, it shows that there's a decent chance that the third is somewhat broken as well.
  7. I don't think Ruin was involved at all with the Mist killings. No mention of Ruin involved at all. Also, I'm fairly certain the mists would snap any Mistborn who hadn't snapped already. If anyone has any untapped Allomantic potential, the mists will snap them. As for those who wonder why Kelsier didn't snap until the Pits, this is the only answer I think we're going to get.
  8. Well, he wrote the books, Reader. But that doesn't make him the canonical creator of the universe. I really doubt that he's set himself up as god of the cosmere. And he's never said anything to indicate that, within the story, he is the creator of anything or even a hint that he exists at all within the books. So where are you getting this from? Have you seen something in the books or interviews that I've missed?
  9. I'm not sure that you can count a third Shard on Roshar as an undamaged Shard, considering that we don't have confirmation that it even exists, let alone that it hasn't been damaged. We know that both Cultivation and Honor have Splinters (spren, although Cultivation may not be Splintered all the way) so if there is a third Shard (which I personally doubt) it seems possible that it too is not completely whole.
  10. There's also the distinct possibility that TLR was using the other version of Compounding. Assuming he had access to nicrosil, it's possible that he could store a bit of Soothing in a nicrosilmind, and then burned it to be able to Soothe people beyond the limits of even a lerasium Mistborn.
  11. Well the Blade and the Plate were intrinsic parts of the Knights Radiant. If you look at the context, the rest of the paragraph is about the Radiants. I think it's a pretty weird and abrupt change of topic if they go from talking about the Radiants standing again to the Shards and then back to the Radiants. The paragraph just being about Radiants make far more sense to me.
  12. It could be, but it could also refer to Shardplate and Shardblades, which are also called Shards. Or it could be a double reference too, implying both of those things.
  13. Shards do not have a mind of their own, only as Sazed says "a weak will". (Or something like that) They want to follow their intent and will actively seek out a person to hold their Shard and follow that intent. If you remember back to the end of TWoK Dalinar realizes that Honor was not answering his question about Sadeas, he just assumed that he was. Honor cannot hear him, and Tanavast is dead. Read Dalinar's last chapter and the vision where he fights the Midnight Essence (I'm pretty sure that's where he aska about Sadeas). Once you read it, knowing that Honor isn't answering his question, it all makes sense. As for why they have no mind but Syl does, that goes into some Realmatics, at least in my theory. I'll explain it, but since you're relativesly new, like you said, I don't know if you know about Realmatics yet. If you do, great! If not there's a super awesome Shardcast here to help you. Remember that everything I say below could be completely and utterly wrong. This whole theory hinges on how I view the Congnitive Realm. I think that it is a sort of overlap between the Physical and Spiritual Realms, the place where they interact. An object needs to have both Physical and Spiritual aspects for a Cognitive aspect to form, in my opinion. So a Shard, comprised mostly of spiritual energy, has very very little physical to it, at least in proportion to the massive amount of spiritual energy they contain. So not much of a Cognitive aspect ends up forming, nothing beyond that will to follow its intent. But, once it picks up someone to hold it, that person brings enough physical, as well as their own Cognitive, to sort of complete the entity that is the Shard, and allow its full power to be used. Now Syl is much the same, almost a like mini Shard. (Or a Splinter to use the right term) She has some spiritual but almost no physical, allowing her to barely manifest and affect the physical world. But then the Nahel bond forms between her and Kaladin. She starts getting a boost from his physical aspect, allowing her mind to begin to work again. In return, he receives a little bit of her spiritual power/connection to Honor (I'm not yet sure which) which allows him to begin Surgebinding. This is all part of a theory I've yet to post in its entirety, but does this bit make sense?
  14. Here you go.
  15. Thank you! It is indeed a great thing for me (and I hope for the site too). I hardly even notice the eye spikes anymore. What this means is that I've joined 17th Shard staff in role as moderator for the Brandon Sanderson boards.(minus the WoT section) I do my best to keep the discussion on track, provide any input that I have, keep people as informed as possible as they theorize. (to keep erroneous beliefs from popping up) I also keep an eye on member behavior over there, although that's rarely an issue. In addition to that I keep the Ultimate List of questions up to date (something I need to do right now, incidentally) and write Featured Theories columns with Chaos and Zas. I realize that some of the titles on the site aren't self-explanatory, so here's a list of where various staff members moderate (pulled from the About section) Administrators manage all areas of the site and provide the leadership for the rest of the staff. In their other section, they are often hold other lesser titles that show where they tend to work. Global moderators manage all areas of the forums. We have one global mod, Eerongal. Ardents focus in the Book Discussion boards, as well as General Theories. Our ardent is Windrunner. Obligators moderate the Role-Playing boards--including the Mistborn RPG--and the fan fiction area. We have one obligator, Kuri Shardweaver. Radiants moderate the community areas on the site, such as General Discussion. We have no radiants at this time. Returned moderate the galleries and do random artwork. Our two Returned are E. Hyde and MerryBerry. Soulcasters are our coding backups. Our two Soulcasters are Ryan and Moru. Worldbringers are wiki administrators and moderate the Coppermind forums. Our one Worldbringer is Joe_ST. Worldsingers are the news guys, bringing you the most up to date information about site and Brandon events. Hope this helps!
  16. I've got a good one, but it requires a tad of back story. Sweetness (purple), lyssie (red), Shivertongue (green) and I were playing kdice online together. We usually talk and team up in the chatroom, so this time was no exception. I was a tad too late to join a match but they were all in it, so I decided to wait. I had a rather... colorful conversation with one of the people they were playing. Meanwhile in our chatroom... Also, I realize this may not be funny to anyone who wasn't there (I had to preserve it for posterity!). However, I do feel the need to point out that this "amazing" player, who was so much above a level 5, was bested by level 3's. Oh how I love irony.
  17. Thanks guys! I'm happy to be here. Am I not considered mortal now, thanks to my spiking?
  18. Thanks Joe(pants?)!

  19. Yes, you are most definitely not to the answer yet. The reason for Kaladin's enslavement will become clear in the Third or Fourth part. (I can't remember which) Hang in there! Seeing what happened is worth the wait.
  20. Did you get a chance to ask Brandon the Sliver question? I've been dying to know.

  21. Hey MistSailer, good to have you aboard! I'm really glad you decided to join us here! I'm a theory moderator over in the Brandon's books board, so I hope to see you over there before long. If you've got any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask, whether it be cosmere related or something more basic about the forums. I hope you'll have fun theorizing here with us Edit: Joe totally ninja'd me on the aboard joke
  22. Hmm, seems you're right. Thank you so much!
  23. Why would it be unbalanced? Little atium, little lerasium. No Shardpools at all and presumably the two mists are about equal, so I think we're good. The whole Ruin's Shardpool thing is confusing. Sometimes it seems like there is a pool in the Pits somewhere, and other times Brandon says that the Pool is the Pits, with each crystal thing being a sort of mini-Shardpool. So I honestly have no idea.
  24. Here's a bit about why atium and lerasium aren't equally present.
