  1. I love Elantris too Zas. Some may call Raoden two-dimensional (I disagree incidentally) but I find something inherently appealing about a good man thrown into terrible circumstances that thrives regardless. It's a hopeful tale. I don't know about anyone else, but I think this is a huge deal! Is Jaddeth returning or is it all a fabrication of Wyrm and the Skaze? What does it even mean if Wyrm is returning? Is a Shard coming back together? (Unlikely but awesome!) I am super excited to see someone as intelligent as Aiden study Dakhor. Maybe we'll be able to peer through the monks's mysticism.
  2. Hey Leon good to have you here! I always enjoy having new members, especially when they take the time to make intro topics so thank you for that. To second fRR, can you tell us a bit about yourself? Your favorite Cosmere book or writers or basically anything really. I'm a theory staff member, so you'll usually find me in the theory boards. See you around -Windrunner
  3. My oh my, I wonder who did that?
  4. Sweetness is tired.
  5. Good point about the spike Elwynn, but we don't know the type of spikes for the Piercings of the Hero, so the question is still valid. I'll try to find some way to phrase your symbol question.
  6. A double post to warn people that apparently I look like a drug dealer.
  7. Exactly, they follow the spirit of the oath, because they are good people, if they weren't then someone might get technical about how Dalinar didn't "capture" the Plate. But it wouldn't matter, and I think Adolin wouldn't hesitate to give anyone who did this a nice Plate assisted smack for being so asinine. That's true, and I'm sure that theme will be reflected in the conflicts of the Stormlight Archive. I do not think that this oath will have any effect on Dalinar's potential Surgebinding or even the plot of the books at all, except for the obvious of Renarin now having Plate. If, "I will give my son Plate" was an Oath of the Knights Radiant, then we'd run into some problems. But no one cares where the Plate came from, the fact is that Renarin has it, and that's really all that matters in my opinion.
  8. Woah Sweetness, thanks for revealing my secret powers. This had NOTHING to do with a spike.
  9. We already tried to get him to do that Reader, he RAFO'd us with a couple small hints.
  10. Sorry for dropping out of chat like that. I set the laptop down for one second and I fall asleep for 6 hours... Thanks for letting me pick your brain, and it was good talking to you. Also someone else needs to post on your profile so all my comments stop being adjacent. I feel like a stalker :P

  11. The Way of Kings makes it very clear that The Order of Talenelat is a devotary. The question is: "What devotary do you credit, Brightlord Dalinar?". It's possible that Orders are when devotaries for men are called and women's devotaries are called just that. The only slight problem could be Kabsal, since he serves in what would be a women's devotary, but that can be explained away by the fact that he's an ardent and not subject to gender roles and therefore can be a member of that devotary. Or it could be not that at all
  12. Ah that makes sense. Some of the stuff on that wiki is good, but they do have a few, seemingly erroneous beliefs that I've noticed (confusing Dawnshards with Honorblades), so take what you see with a grain of salt. Come to think of it, Vorin is an odd name for the article, considering it's a demonym, and the name of the religion is Vorinism.
  13. Well that's exciting, especially considering the relationship between science and technology. Why does the discovery accelerate science?
  14. You shouldn't double post, but I'll let it slide because it's a day later and about a different topic. Next time, please wait to post until somebody else has or if a reasonable amount of time has gone by (a few days) then you may post. Or you can always edit your original post and someone will probably notice it. On the topic of you question we know of four devotaries. The first is the Order of Talenalat, which is Dalinar's devotary. Nothing is said about it other then some believe it to be for "lesser" peoples and that it is relatively straightforward in its teachings. The Devotary of Purity is Shallan's (soon to be old) Devotary. They seek to emulate the Almighty's honesty and wholesomeness. The Devotary of Sincerity believe that there is always more truth to be found in the world. The Devotary of Insight runs the Palanaeum, but what trait it emulates is unknown. Kabsal, assuming he is a real ardent (which I believe he is) is probably a member of this devotary, considering he speaks of shelving books. Edit: You self ninja'd me. How did you access the Coppermind article when the wiki is still offline?
  15. So I just noticed on yahoo that scientists at CERN are expected to announce the discovery of the Higgs boson any day now. I'm no physicist, but it seems like finding the particle that gives mass to other particles is a pretty big deal to me. The scientists are being cautiously optimistic that they have found it.
  16. So this is something I've wanted to discuss for a while now, but never got around to. Somehow art and Breath interact on Nalthis, and it does some interesting things. So their soul actually ends up in the work. How does this happen? What does everyone think? I've never been able to come up with any great ideas on the subject so I thought I'd put it to the community to discuss.
  17. Gee, I wonder what Chaos will say? *cough*Mistborn: The Final Empire*cough*
  18. I actually might be wrong. The Ars Arcanum says they are linked to an object or direction. The problem is, the basic lashing never seems to work that way in the text. Everything else in the the AA says that it's a simple twisting of gravity. It seems contradictory.
  19. I don't see Renarin as an antagonist. Renarin is a man who is trying to make his way through a war-zone that he is unable to fight in because of his disability. He tries to follow the masculine ideal but is both largely uninterested (his true interest lie in other areas) and incapable of being the typical warrior man. He doesn't follow the typical gender roles so that's one of the things that, in my opinion, make people nervous around him, not any real dangerous or evil behavior. That's why Dalinar wants him to be an ardent, so he will fall outside the gender roles and be able to both follow his passion and be accepted by those around him. That being said, Renarin's intelligence level would make him a frightening antagonist. I think it's really unlikely that this oath will prevent him from becoming a Surgebinder. Note that he said "if I capture any more Shards". Since Dalinar has given up his, and has now become a more tactical general, that is now an impossibility, he will never win any more Shards. So, in my opinion, his oath is fulfilled.
  20. You've got to know your Heralds people!
  21. I made a very bad mistake fighting Falmer early on in the game. I found a big hole in the ground called the Sightless Pit. Being the genius I am, I decided that the best course of action was to jump in. Turns out the whole place is crawling with Falmer. Also, you cannot climb out of the pit. So I had to fight my way through these Dwermer ruins agains Falmer after Falmer with those ugly bug things. It took me like a week cause I had to have been like a level 5 so I kept dying.
  22. Should I say welcome back then? I love theorizing and debate too, so I'm looking forward having discussions with you.
  23. It's still impossible though because that's not the way the basic lashing works. When he lashes himself "to" a wall, he's really just moving gravity's pull that direction. It's the same as when he lashed the block to the sky. So he'd fall right through that door, just as he'd fall through a trapdoor in the real world. I mentioned the reverse lashing because it's the best way to simulate the affect he seems to be describing.
  24. I just bought Fallout 3 and Oblivian. I realize I'm a little late to the party. I'd been playing New Vegas at my cousin's house and I love Skyrim, so when I found both games in one package for $20 I had to make them mine, even if they are a bit older.
  25. Interview database to the rescue!
