To be clear, (and perhaps you're saying this and I misinterpreted you) Ruin didn't create Hemalurgy, it arose as an interaction between the world and the Shard. But it is still his magic system and related to him.
-
No need for rudeness, pir2h. Some people are new to this sort of thing, and everyone makes mistakes. Please keep it civil.
-
If that's really the case, and I'm not sure that it is due to the inconsistency you mentioned, could the same identity trick that allows you to access another Feruchemist's metalminds come into play here?
-
I think you're missing the point I was trying to make here. He was as you say, quite firm on Navani and Taravangian a couple years ago. Just as he is seemingly quite firm on Lift and Renarin. I'm sure he has a better idea the further he gets into the series, but the bottom line is that at its core, the creative process will always be somewhat fluid. Who knows what we could be looking at a few years from now?
-
Eh, he really hasn't been all that firm. Lift, Renarin, and Eshonai are actually relatively recent reveals. Taravangian and Navani used to have books and now they don't. He even talked about a second Kaladin book. Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar, Jasnah and Taln have been the same for a while. All the others have been in flux, and I'd be surprised if we didn't get at least one more switch before all is said and done.

I tend to think of those things less as fuel and more as the Physical aspect of the magic system. Perhaps that will help clarify it a bit. Metals and color aren't adding any energy to the Investiture, they seem to be more of a doorway through which the spiritual energy comes to the physical realm. They can shape it sometimes, such as in the case of metals, but they do not power the Investiture themselves, they are merely consumed by it.
-
That's why the Tears of Edgli exist. To return color to Nalthis in a similar way that metal returns to Scadrial. I'm pretty sure there's a quote somewhere around here that makes it more explicit, but it just makes sense.

We'll probably have to agree to disagree on this one. I don't know how you knew for sure that Kal would become a Radiant, but I for one did not. We saw the very start of the significant part of Kaladin and Syl's relationship. Before that, she was barely distinguishable from the typical windspren. We discovered with him what was happening, what he could do, and why. With Adolin, the second I see a spren nosing about him, I'll be suspicious, and so will he, now that the return of the Radiants has come into more common knowledge. I'll grant you that we didn't see firsthand Tien dying, but I view that as less significant. Perhaps it made the bonding possible, (although we don't really understand the whole "broken soul" mechanism) but people experience tragedy every day. The important part, for me at least, began when Syl and Kaladin first spoke to one another. But feel free to view it differently, and I'm sure if that's what Adolin has in store, it will be fun to watch.
-
I guess we define Radiant differently. Kal is not a Radiant, as per the way characters in-world define it. He had attracted the interest of an honorspren, but not sworn any oaths, so I see it as us viewing his whole journey.
-
Have we not been watching Kaladin struggle towards becoming a full Radiant these past few books?

The Ultimate SLC Comic Con Stalker Strategy Thread

For member reports maybe. Typically audio from the staff is pre-transcribed. And a nearby booth was playing copyrighted music, so we don't want to cause any difficulties with that. Rest assured, you'll soon be getting a very high quality transcription. -
Well, yeah it didn't transport the buildings because none were actually built on the raised dais of the Oathgate. And once crem actually solidifies, it's just part of the ground.
-
It's from a very old Q&A.

That would be the Blessing of Presence. It's how TenSoon managed to, just a little, resist Ruin's grasp. And funnily enough, it's a copper spike.
-
There's also the fact that that chart is in-world, and subjected to the shift of history. These are associations of Vorin symbolism, which may not correlate perfectly with the Radiants. A lot of biases and accidental changes can skip in over the years. We already know that the body focuses on there are basically meaningless. The chart is even labeled "imperfect".
-
It was a typo and has been since fixed in later versions. I don't know about the Nook version.
-
Well, funny is a word for it. Not necessarily the one I'd choose, although I didn't buy it for a second.
-
Oh there will be. There were some sick admins last week, so it was temporarily on hiatus.

I posted a theory a few months ago when the book came out that posited that the Skybreakers are the order that survived, like Moogle just said.
-
Yeah... I'm not much of a fan of that theory. I prefer theories with a tad more substance.

What I find interesting is that the royal palace seems to have been built upon the Kholinar Oathgate. If they activate it, will the whole palace be transported? Because that sounds like a recipe for disaster.

So, just as a background, when Brandon told us that there are ten core world, he meant that these ten worlds are the ten ones with important bits of story to tell. So far, we know eight of these. Ashyn Braize (Some perhaps would argue that Braize is not one of these ten) Nalthis Roshar Scadrial Sel Taldain Yolen Roshar (Stormlight), Scadrial (Mistborn), and Yolen (Dragonsteel) are the three main pillars of the overarching cosmere story. As far as we know, all of these so far have Shards with the exception of Ashyn which currently does not (although, I suppose it is technically possible that later-Yolen has no Shards). These ten however, are not the only inhabited worlds in the cosmere. There are plenty of populated planets that have just a Splinter there, or no Shardic influence at all. Two of these planets are Threnody (Shadows for Silence) and First of the Sun (Sixth of the Dusk). These two planets do not have a Shard, although they may have a Splinter. We have no confirmation either way on that. Due to the lack of Shards, the magic that you see on these worlds is not so much a system, like Surgebinding or Allomancy, but something you interact with, thus the shades and the Aviar. Hope this clears things up, and if it's still confusing, let me know. I'd be happy to help.
