Am I the only magician here?
LightRinger replied to LightRinger's topic in Social Groups, Clans, & Guilds
*realizes I have zero teaching experience* I have a few books to learn from, and YouTube really is a great source. I know it's a bit cliche, but card tricks are really easy to get into, and you can, in fact do cooler things than "pick a card, found it!". Look for anything on the double lift to start, I recommend Jason Maher and Chris Ramsay for tutorials (yt) and the Card College Vol. 1 for books. If you want to try coins, try to learn the French drop and a finger palm. I don't think Danny Goldsmith has any free stuff, but check out his performances, they're brilliant! For books, Bobo's Coin Magic is great. If you want to try stuff with rubber bands (it's a whole thing, actually) check out Crazy Man's Handcuffs, or again look up Chris Ramsay. If you're interested in theory and performance tips, check out this free book: https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/ebooks/magic-in-mind/ , which compiles essays from some of the greatest magicians ever. And yes, there are shops that sell professional level magic tricks, not just cheap gags. I wouldn't recommend buying anything for a while though, you never know how much you'll actually like it. I'm so happy to see people getting excited about my favorite art form. JM! How dare! It's me. I literally asked you if you were a real magician in my intro thread. And mentioned you in the tags. And told you I prefer blueberry or Parmesan, but can't abide cinnamon raisin. Appreciate the gesture though. -
Title explains itself. I’d love to talk about magic and brainstorm Cosmere type magic, like levitations with blue lines and stuff. Even if you’re not into magic, lmk what cool tricks based off Brandon’s books y’all wanna see. If you want to learn how to do tricks, you’re in the right place.

Hi! Pleasure to meet you @FireflyGuardian! It’s always nice to see a lurker make a profile and an intro post, I know I’m glad I did. Where did you lurk most?

Hi. Can I join? I love F Tin, especially how an unkeyed tinmind can store seeking, making anyone a Seeker. Anyone here?

Hi. Controversy ahead, so be warned. *takes deep breath* I stopped reading the books after 8.5 because I thought the writing was getting better and the plot was getting worse. I'm not a huge fan of authors writing guides to their books, especially when it just compiles things we already know. I loved the first few books, but after Neverseen everything got too confusing with the bigger bosses and halls of mirrors. I liked Keefe until he turned into a whiny boi. Personally, I think Keeper has become the Hunger Games but longer and doesn't hide that it's for middle schoolers. They both started strong but became too romance heavy after a few books IMNSHO. (lmk if y'all want a comparison chart for characters and plot) However, I think there is still a lot of potential for the series, and I might read Stellarlune if y'all recommend it. *takes another deep breath* I think Kenric is def still alive, and likely a member of the Neverseen, and probably Gethen. I love Elwin more than anything in the series. Flashers are freaking cool, and I'd love to talk about multiple Ability resonances, to borrow a Shard term. *Steps down from soapbox* Thanks. I'll be here more. I'd love to know if y'all think I should read Stellarlune, especially if I'm not the biggest fan of the series's progression thus far. I read the tags (be, nice), and I hope y'all realize my opinions are here for the sake of conversation and not to be mean. I'd love to read some of y'all's theories, so sorry if I say/said anything already on this thread, but now I'm going to read it all.

@Dragonheir! Are you my long lost twin? We sound like we could be the same person. Are you a just an heir, or a dragon relative as well? And if the former, then how did you become the next in line without kinship? Tell me your secrets!

discussion What does reputation mean to you? [poll]
LightRinger replied to Koloss17's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Reputation? It’s not Taylor’s worst album, but it’s a bit moody for me. This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things is fun though. Why? Shouldn’t this be in Community? Edit: Yes, this was a joke. But could someone please explain Reputation to me? I don’t quite know how it works. -
No! Don’t! It’s… well, you’ll see.

Cosmere Hunger Games — Sign Ups

Ideally a bit more random than that, where he would store (for example) for 10 mins at 50% and then tap for 2.5 mins at 200% then store for an hour at 10%… basically, the idea was it’d be random except that once he started tapping, he would keep tapping until he ran out of reserves. -

Awesome! In that case, we’ll try: [Name: Jaksyn Rouge Age: 16 Gender: Male Which planet does their investiture come from? Scadrial What is their power/what are they? Compounding Chromium Twinborn How well can they use their magic? Well for Leeching, but has no control over Feruchemy. (See below) What are you going to do to keep your character from being overpowered? Jaksyn cannot choose when to start or stop storing luck, so is in constant danger all the time. He’s always either storing or tapping, so *ahem* the odds are always in or against his favor, never neutral Character’s motivation for being in the games: He heard there was a lot of partying beforehand, and thought it was worth the potential of dying a gruesome death. Important pieces of their backstory: Lost an arm due to a herd of moose charging him when he was storing hard one day. ] Am I allowed to have a character with fortune abilities? I know we’re not exactly clear on it yet, but I figured it would just act as basic luck. And Leeching works on other magic systems right? I know it’s a little different, but wanted to know how y’all have adapted for gameplay. -

Hi. I’d love to join, but have no idea how the game plays. What are the rules, and is there a post I could go to to find them? Also, how often will I have to be on here if I want to commit? Sorry for sounding lame, just don’t want to start and not finish. -
The bots start coming and they don’t stop coming. They’re breaking the rules tryna take our money. Started reporting spammers for fun, they make me feel smart cause they act so dumb. At least I think that’s how it goes…

Gotta say, just found out about y’all, but if y’all put in the effort, this cult could be fire.

Hey! Saw you around but never officially said "Welcome to the Shard @strmblsd!". So, welcome to the Shard @strmblsd! What's the best Haribo gummy bear flavor? And would you rather be Returned or of the third Heightening? No extra Breaths to start with, just in case you're wondering how to loophole.
-
Welcome to the Shard @Nikaro! Would you rather have unlimited Goldfish or unlimited Cheez-Its? Also, Allomancy or Feruchemy? (If you've read the Mistborn books, that is.)
-
I have no idea. Want to be mine?
-
Hellooo @TedShiz! Welcome! What's better, Mistborn Era 1 vs Era 2?
-
Welcome to the Shard @Catacendre! Were you a lurker before joining the shard (I totally was, so no shame), and if so what was your favorite thread/the one that convinced you to join

Hi @Block! If you don't mind me asking, are you a building block, a lego block, a walkaroundthe block, a stumbling block, a cinder block, a butcher block, a road block, a time block, a CENSORED, a block party, a quilt block, or the dreaded Writer's Block? Also, what's your favorite taco?
