Okay so it’s not exactly tattoos. They have the appearance of tattoos when complete but they start as symbols carved into flesh. Soulbinding(working name) Sigil of Bearing Carved with a crystal knife, this symbol allows the bearer to hold and use a human soul. There is no upper limit to the number of souls that can be held, and souls can have variable power depending on the person the soul comes from. Sigil of Taking When carved with the same crystal knife as a sigil of bearing, this sigil will transfer the soul of the bearer to the bearer of the sigil of bearing. This kills the victim. Once both sigils have been carved, they solidify into black markings resembling tattoos on human skin. The thickness of the lines on the marking indicate the power of the soul involved. Sigil of Binding This sigil must be carved on both individuals involved and must be carved by the members of the pair. When this is done, the souls of the two are bound together, mildly enhancing the souls of both individuals and allowing for telepathic communication. When a member of the pair dies, their sigil turns to a sigil of taking and the other partner has theirs converted to a sigil of bearing, with the deceased soul being transferred to the living partner. Sigils can be carved into objects instead of people, but this only has an effect for sigils of bearing. Items can gain powers and even sentience when bound to one or more souls, and the process has been known to create powerful weapons.

If you want more on Divine Essence I’m gonna need specific questions. I don’t have it super thought out. As for more magic systems, I’ll give a few options. Do we want the color magic system, the crystal magic system, the tattoo magic system, or the fire magic system next?

So I kind of have a lot of magic systems. Like 12 (ish) different systems. I’ll share one to start and I’ll share more if you guys are interested Divine Essence: Five essences, stemming from five beings tied to the High God Entropy. I haven’t quite figured out exactly how the essences are harvested, but they are liquid and are used by being ingested. Essence of Many: Split a user’s mind and soul into multiple personalities, each with different perspectives and skill sets. Not used all that often in combat but sometimes used in strategizing. Essence of Being Solidify a user’s basic identity and sharpen their existing skills. Used fairly often in both combat and daily life for those who have access to it. Essence of Abyss Make a user devoid of emotion and make them resistant to pain. Used quite frequently in combat. Essence of Form Allow a user to change their physical form in nearly limitless ways, provided enough Essence. The effect wears off after a few hours post-ingesting. Used very often in combat. Essence of Madness Make a user fly into a blind rage, in which they will kill anything in their path, friend or foe, in violent and painful ways until they run out of Essence. Also enhances strength, speed, reflexes, and prevents pain. Not used too often due to danger to allies, but very potent when one user faces many enemies.

Feedback on a cosmere magic system I’ve been creating
TheSurvivorofDeath replied to bmcclure7's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So, this magic system is interesting. Does it necessarily fit the Cosmere, no. But is it interesting, yes. I would suggest that either the basic speed and strength enhancement idea or the energy increase idea should be the base ability not a branch ability, particularly if you’re trying to make it fit the Cosmere, as those are qualities that come more naturally just from being invested, while all existing regrowth and physical change abilities require practice. I would also like to point out that it would be possible to either have investiture simply strengthen things, by fueling a chemical and molecular change, although I actually see that as more difficult than, through a mechanic of the magic system, converting the matter of the body part into investiture and then converting that investiture into a metal or gemstone, the two solid manifestations of investiture in the cosmere. Though that would still be complex and difficult. Also, crystal and metal are both biological elements in the cosmere, even though that’s not even required for this to work. Singers have a natural crystal growth, their gemhearts, and dragons produce a biological metal. Just saying.- 17 replies

Seekerform: Granted by bonding a Secretspren, gives the singer the ability to sense both passive and kinetic investiture. Passive sensing manifests similar to lifesense while kinetic sensing manifests as rhythms like those from bronze allomancy, but for a wide range of magics. Also gives the singer sharper senses, especially sight and hearing. Spineform: Granted through bonding an Agonyspren, gives the singer an enhanced pain tolerance and covers the body in tiny, needle-sharp carapace spines. Focusform: Granted by a Concentrationspren, making the singer capable of hyperfocusing on single tasks and giving them incredible attention to detail. Also enhances fine motor skills. Heatform: Granted by a Flamespren, making the singer incredibly tolerant to heat and capable of producing large amounts of heat from specialized carapace on the forarms, palms, back, thighs, abdomen, and face. Royalform: Granted by a Gloryspren, makes the singer proud and confident, and enhances leadership abilities. Produces carapace outcroppings on the skull that resemble crowns. Fastform: Granted by bonding a Hungerspren, makes the singer capable of going long periods of time without food. Produces a thinner appearance with almost no carapace. Bindform: From bonding a Bindspren, makes the singer better connected to others and to nature, strengthening the rhythms. Produces patches of grippy carapace on the fingertips, palms, and soles of the feet. Terrorform: From bonding a Fearspren, makes the singer essentially fearless but gives the singer a terrifying appearance. Random and grotesque carapace growths and a generally ugly appearance, accompanied by jagged growths, produce a horrifying visage.

Crafting weapons and cool effects
TheSurvivorofDeath replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
First of all, do not tell a cattle prod to “Destroy Evil”. Sentient cattle prods are notoriously talkative and very sarcastic. Second of all, aons are your best bet for any magical weapons. You can get just about any effect from that system. If you’re really interested in looking at the possibilities you’d definitely need to look at Elantris. Now, electricity and lightning is tricky even with AonDor. You could probably get flames with the surge of abrasion and with a little fidgeting with brass compounding. For electricity though… that’s tough. You could maybe, and I seriously stress the maybe here, create an Awakened generator that converts investiture into electricity with a complex command. Aons could maybe generate the raw power to convert into electricity, though I don’t know if it would convert easily, and you’d need the circuitry. Maybe a stormspren fabrial affixed to a blade could do it. It’s interesting how there’s no major magic system that directly produces electricity that we’ve seen onscreen. The closest we have is Stormform. Anyway, that’s my piece. I could maybe think of some specific methods for specific weapons but this is just a basic answer. -
I think it’s sand from Taldain. It’s white pointing towards Shallan because of her investiture, but the rest is black. Though I wouldn’t put it past Hoid to have some pure dor.

I think you’re on the right track here. It does seem that allomantically speaking pure god metals expand or strengthen the magic system of their associated shard in some way. I wouldn’t go so far as to say they all do things like granting powers or generating breaths. On top of it being super unlikely that Brandon would write them like that, it just doesn’t make sense that one metal, lerasium, forges connections, and then the other metals form connections with their shards, but atium doesn’t. No, all the god metals must do something different. It could be anything really. Atium gives a peek into the spiritual, which helps with hemalurgy. Lerasium forms a connection to preservation, granting and strengthening allomancy. Each god metal could assist or fuel the magic system. Edglium could improve commands or something like that. Tanavastium could fuel Surgebinding or strengthen oaths or literally anything. The possibilities remain rather endless, though your idea of each of them assisting the shards magic system is new to me, so props for that.

connection Genetics, Connection, and the Bene Gesserit?
TheSurvivorofDeath replied to Rune's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Well connection can be manipulated through several means and it’s possible, if a bit difficult, to do exactly what Hoid does as long as you have enough knowledge. As far as I know planetary connection is genetic, you will have a connection to whatever world your ancestors are from even if you’ve been on another one for generations. I believe someone with Nalthian parents can be born with a Breath even if they aren’t born on Nalthis. That being said, a good system to start off with to try and get the rest of them is Scadrial. You want Feruchemy off the bat, preferably full feruchemist but the right kind of ferring works. You can just get lerasium on Scadrial if you know what you’re doing and there’s Allomancy, and with more lerasium and other god metals you should be able to forge a connection to each shard, gaining more abilities. Additionally, duralumin Feruchemy manipulates connection and might assist in tricking the spirit web to let magics stick better. Besides, Scadrial lets you know about hemalurgy and with that you can just take whatever magic and connection you want.- 8 replies

theory Genetics and Mistborn in the Modern Scadrial
TheSurvivorofDeath replied to Rune's topic in Mistborn
Mistborn and Feruchemists can be created with careful breeding, yes. The abilities are genetic and can be selectively bred to create a person with a strong enough connection to be a full mistborn or Feruchemist. A Fullborn, however, probably could not be bred. There’s a WOB I think, though I can’t find it, that talks about how allomancy and Feruchemy sort of cancel each other out, which is why even in the earlier days when both were stronger no fullborn were made. The lord ruler was only able to be a Fullborn because he specifically altered his spiritweb with the power of a god to give himself Allomancy. I don’t think you could breed a true Fullborn, though you should be able to get a mistborn ferring or a misting Feruchemist. -

Yes I am aware of this. Ferromancy is called such because I kind of suck at naming magic systems and I just wanted something to mean metal magic. Tapping is something that could be changed, it’s just the first thing I thought of when writing and it fits the magic. Any suggestions to change it? -

The First Chapter of My Fantasy Novel (Take 2)

So I posted a thread like this one a couple months ago, and in that time I’ve reworked that story and rewritten some of it. So this is the first chapter of the second version of my novel I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
