  1. Yes, I think it's this. As for Mandalorian discourse, didn't watch. My biggest dissapointment recently was "the Dragon Prince" (yes, it's a kids show...) which everyone hyped about because it was made by the people who made "Avatar the Last Airbender". But while [controversial opinion] the visuals were awesome, [another one] characterisation and narrative structure and generally most of the story stuff besides its bare bones were... mediocre, at best.
  2. So as a certified Truthwatcher, and rather obviously a …modified one, I started wondering how my spren would look like. Or in general, how this kind of spren looks. So there's them (I don't have an idea for the name yet, and for gender it's probably 'n/a'). Note: While I usually roll my eyes at all the "OC, do not steal, copyright!!1" notes, especially at work of mediocre skill, like this one (I respect everyone's copyright, I just think such notes are pretentious and unnecessary), this is something I feel an emotional connection to, so please don't use it as illustration of other stuff. I'm fine with posting/pinning, I'd be very happy with someone adapting my headcanon about how modified mistpren look and drawing something of their own with similar features, but I'm not fine with using this image as an illustration for a canon spren, or your spren or something along those lines, or (especially) something not SA-related (like: your RPG character). I'm sure there are a lot of better drawn pictures anyway. Also, this is not a Glys fanart.

    Nah El

Huh. Elithanathile menas "one who changes" and while it is mentioned as one of Honor's names, I believe it means Honor as much as "Stormfather" means Jezren or Kalak, ie a cultural messing up of the actual lore. DS spoiler: Des El's name refer to it? Maybe. (Also, I have no idea how to do inline spoilers). Edit: I'm sure the "El means God" is there too, but I think there's also some in-world linguistics here. Des it mean this in proto-Rosharan too? Maybe.

A gif I made from an offcial RoW illustration. Everyone's favorite pic, now animated!

    Aon RAFO

From the album: Dumb humor and crempost material

Aon Rafo Meaning: mystery, suspense and frustration. (Originally it had a rotational symmetry, but people pointed out that it looks like a svastika, so I had to change it)
  6. I got an idea. You know what might be even better than Syl perma-Dying? Pattern perma-dying, Shallan reconciling/4-Idealing with Testament (which she is close to) and kicking the but of a very surprised Moash or whoever killed Pattern. (She wouldn't kill Moash, he belongs too much to Kaladin's arc, but she'd totally trash him). And Shallan-Testament relationship would be... difficult. And great to read. I love Pattern more than Syl, he's awesome and funny and all. But this would make a good narrative. TBH I doubt both Pattern and Adolin would die, Shallan is not some Kaladin to be kicked down this hard by the story all the time.
  7. This. Another point into Adolin dying theory: Brandon also likes sometimes flipping genders in a trope. So one husband dying, and the score is clear again, can go back to killing wives. /s (Actually Brandon gets better all the time, also in stuff like female characters, so I hope there won't be a lot more dead wives, especially after the double one. Or unnamed dead mothers. )
  8. Adolin. Otherwise, hmm, let's make some guesses... Navani, Shallan, Leshwi... Syl. Adolin: he's just the expendable one. Non-magic user, happy, not crucial to the plot (like, say, Dalinar). I really like and enjoy him, but feel like he's gonna go. Navani: She's the second Bondsmith, we don't need two. Also, too many main characters make book slow down. I wish Dalinar died instead, but this doesn't seem likely. There are many characters I'd wish dead instead of Navani, but we're talking bets, not hopes. Shallan: Not many readers like her (though I do), also she generally completed her character arc now. And killing Adolin and not her would be too sad, and not in an interesting way. Leshwi: She's a noble antagonist, looks very likely to die heroically for Kaladin (in the "redemption equald seath" trope). Also, she's a Fused, so essentially, she cannot live being a good gal, because she has to steal bodies to respawn. Syl: I initially wanted to steal the Hesina idea, but a) we know spren can be perma-killed. b ) people would loooove seeing Kaladin go all the way from square zero again c) he will bond a new spren ofc d) probably Notum or whatever his name was, or at least one of those we've seen e) losing Syl would hurt Kaladin more than losing his mom f) I think Brando Sando realized that too much of dead mothers is a cliche. (Yes, they are all mostly female. I can't think of more main male characters that don't seem essential to the plot. Maybe because I focus on fellow women and remember them better. Maybe.) Adolin: sacrificing himself for Maya, somehow. I have no idea about the details. Anyway, in a cool fight. Navani: something humilating? Probably tricked by Tod. Shallan: together with Adolin, HoA-finale-style. Leshwi: sacrificing herself for Kaladin, probably killed by Moash Syl: Moooaaash! With anti-Light. Also, we'll get a Stormfather reaction gif chapter. (Note: While this is not a trolling post, much of it is in the vein of "Brando Sando, I beg you, prove me wrong, show me that you're better than this". Except Adolin and Syl. I think those deaths could make powerful moments and are worth it. Even though I'm not a fan of Kaladin's PoV. But when I thought of Syl, I loved how unexpected, yet logical this death would be in this story. And Adolin... he just feels too much like an extra.)
  9. Yes, this. Except I'm not sure if it's attitude, or just I have a different way of connecting with characters than most people. Unless a character (even a PoV one) is very similar to me in their way of thinking (and Kaladin isn't, for example because he's an extravert), I see them as a different person, not project myself into them or see them as "I could be this". I see them as "other people are like this" kind of real person. May be a Renarin-spectrum thing, may be just me not being a nice person (which is true anyway), IDK. BTW I am better now and less a piece of crem than I've been, but still, no magic fairy, no fanclub, not many friends and they fail to intervene a\with OP magic with exact right moments. And I have a great love life (happily married for 15+ years), instead of off-screen break-ups Thank you for this analysis anyway, it was really insightful.
  10. That's interesting, I posted something very similar a couple days ago.
  11. I'm not that hyped about this ship, because... IDK. I don't much care about Rlain, because I barely saw him on screen. Also, I guess I feel kind of left alone by Renarin, because he turned out less similar to me that I've assumed. I really enjoyed reading about Renarin (especially his insecurities) and don't want all the things I found myself in to now be replaced by warm fuzzy shippy stuff. I mean, I don't actively dislike this ship, I'm just indifferent to it. I'm generally not a big shipper. Anyway I wouldn't post (I try not to post to whine about stuff), but I saw the idea to call it ℝ^2 and it's the best ship name ever! ♥ (until someone makes a ship that can be nicknamed "free group" or some other math object cooler than this)
  12. Hm. Hard one. I like Jasnah in books, but I'd hate her IRL, because she's a perfectionist and must win every conversation. Probably Hoid, because he's empathic, not bossy, and knows a lot of lore. ^^ Or Pattern, for same reasons. Like a half of them... Navani, Raboniel, Venli, also Adolin even if he's very different than me. And Renarin. And probably forgot some of them. It changes with time. Lately it's Navani, Raboniel, Taravangian... whoever gets most lore dumps+has an interesting personality. Also Lopen is fun. Mraize. What's his deal exactly? Lopen maybe? I'm not sure. Lopen, shallan, Lift, Cryptics in general,... I love how 17S has no downvote-reputation system. ^^ …Kaladin. Probably for having all of my personality faults and some of my other issues and getting storming rewarded for them. Also for being extraverted and charismatic while depressed which for me is totally like putting toasts with cheese to a sideways toaster and pulling them out beautifully toasted and similar tutorials (hint: don't try. It won't work.) or all the "how to draw X tutorials where they draw a circle, and a squiggle and suddenly get a beautiful, detailed portrait. OK, Sadeas too and some of the other. And a couple honorspren. And Szeth, for whining all the time and being emo, instead of focusing on the cool lore infodumps. But mostly Kaladin. Venli. Because she actually messed up due to her faults, not just has faults + gets punished for random, unrelated reasons. Also, I can totally see myself doing all the mess she did. That's different from 2? Anyway, a lot of them. I'm married. OK, I guess Hoid, because parts of him remind me of my husband, especially his GMing persona (particularly Hoid-as-himself, not Hoid-as-Wit). Hoid, especially in his Wit persona (not my husband, another friend feels a lot like a more sleepy Wit), Adolin, Jasnah. All people I played ttRPGs with. Also, both Venli and Renerin has a lot in common with myself.
  13. I just noticed something in the epigraphs: (tWoK ch. 60) That's interesting in the context of this thread and the above WoB.
  14. I agree that the kandra will regrow the body part, because while Shardblade cuts soul, or maybe more precise would be to say it cuts the Cognitive idea of one's body, kandra body in its natural state is indifferentiated. So even if you cut through an arm, it wouldn't cut a idea of an arm, it would cut just part of the kandra. And kandra can deal with their bodies losing and adding mass, do I don't think it would do anything permanent. The funny part that everyone misses and which I just realized while reading about chasmfiends, is that bones in kandra are objects, not living matter, so the Blade would physically cut the bone into two parts. Which means it would be noticeable (the arm getting another point where it bends instead of just going dead) and in many cases a Shardblade cut will reveal that something's of with that person. Harder question: a Shardblade cutting a Sleepless (mimicking a human) through "arm"... I have no idea.
  15. So we know that Hoid had been a Dawnshard, probably related to survival/protection/peace/life/something like that. We also know that one of his names is Topaz, because of an ancient gem he once wore (but doesn't now). And, assuming that Rosharan symbolic has anything to do with Cosmere as whole, topaz means something related to Taln, dependable-ness and similar. It's a long shot, but what it that topaz was (or was a name for) the Dawnshard?
  16. Thank you for replying. Backing from potentially controversial topics, I watched some Shad's videos from the corona time (didn't have the mood earlier) and the idea of an immortal running around in full plate (well, chainmail at least) + two daggers is quite funny. I'm pretty sure armor+daggers would make a lot of people scream "bUt thaT's uNrealistic!" Where do you think the line lies between effective fighting and looking cool? Would you accept a movie/book character in armor (more than leather or [whatever the fabric thing was called in English]), fighting with two daggers?
  17. Wait, the "1984" is a title, not the date of production?!!! Wha--- I thought "well, for a movie made in 1984 it's not that weird" but now--- oh. OH. (Yeah, I'm out of the movies&series loop movies this much.) Thanks for mentioning this video btw.
  18. Thanks. I haven't even watched Mandalorian, I'm not a big SW fan nowadays. I really enjoyed Force Awakens, but I'm happy that I didn't see further parts (especially that I hoped for ReyxFinn). It all just got too incoherent. I have a vague feeling that for some strange reason liking newer Star Wars stuff on the internet when you're conservative, or not liking it when you're a liberal, is a no-no. And that's really weird to me. (Also, I'm not sure if "conservative / liberal" are the right words.) Tumblr-y? Female/feminist? Kinda SJW-ish? I feel like that's the general direction and I admit to being a bit in that direction. It's complicated. But emotionally, aestethically, I'm often something like that, yep. So your intuition about what channels I'd like is probably good (for yt book/movie criticism, I like Dominic Noble who is also kinda in that direction and, for something lighter, Screenrant who is simply funny and you may like him too). Anyway, I do like Skallgrim sometimes (he's less interesting than Shad and I don't like his voice a lot) and some Lindybeige and generally rather enjoy swords-and-stuff videos, which stereotypically speaking I shouldn't like. A lot depends if the video is informational. I love learning stuff. As I said, I'm not a sir (this photo and especially the Sleepless effect on it make me look androgynous, but I'm a woman). Anyway good day to you too.
  19. I have no idea what this is, so I don't think I'm referring to it.
  20. Hm. Funny thing is that I'd call myself "traditional" compared to internet average. By "naive" I meant more of "he assumes that nice people don't do wrong things, would likely defend some really bad people because they were his internet friends" and stuff like this. Trusts that other well-spoken white fandom guys are all good people - kind of naive. The Dalinar in tWoK kind of naive. Generally, Shad has some Kholin vibes to me. (And I don't mean Gavilar in RoW prologue, I mean the good guy Kholins) I agree. One of the things that I admire in Shad is being able to say he was wrong about something without being a jerk about it. I'm all for restrictions and hard magic, but there's a difference between internal logic and real-world physics. I'm not sure if I'll have the time to rewatch his videos and find the quote, but there was at least one video which gave me a strong impression that Shad considers Shardblades to not make sense, because they lack mass. I'm talking about this level of wanting realism. (I think it was before he helped with the book, and he might have been talking about lightsabers not exactly Shardblades). Sorry for lacking quotes, since my kids had online lessons I watched much less YT, so it's been some time since I saw those videos. I just remember that there were a few comments about realism that I disagreed with. Maybe it was in context of ttRPG, I tend to have strong opinions of those and the phrase "realistic RPG mechanics" is a sure way to make me suspicious. (Fate and narration-supporting mechanics and verisimilitude based on group trying to keep it, not on bloated physics-simulating rules - it's what works for me) Wow. Sounds like parodying superhero tropes, I have a hard time imagining someone would do this with straight face. But in the 80s everything was possible...
  21. Storms. Sorry, I seriously thought "low-key X" meant "in the general direction of X, but not as much". OK, he's not sexist then, but I wish there was a smaller word to use here. He feels genuinely like a good guy, just sometimes stupid or naive in certain areas. That's what I meant. And very smart in other areas, like castles and swords and stuff (until he starts talking fantasy and expects it to follow real-world physics, I have a problem with this too, I think it's just too narrow idea of the genre). Storms, I'm really critical of people… He's one of my favorite YTers, you know. Huh, really? Ugh. I don't watch a lot of movies, didn't know that. I don't think video about something like this could be hilarious. Interesting, probably. Informative. But I don't think hilarious.
  22. I said "low-key". This means "a little", right? Sincerely asking, I'm not a native speaker and sometimes mess up the emotional tone. Anyway what I meant is that he's not sexist enough to stop watching him or make a drama about it or something similar, but still has some opinions on gender roles that I think aren't true or helpful. He's a gentleman, not a "nice guy", but still, he's a bit… old-fashioned? I don't know how to explain this better. I don't remember exact examples, he said some things along the line of "women are delicate and meant to be protected" and this made me roll my eyes a bit. I still like his videos. Just some parts are kinda… not something I'd agree on. Also, I'm not American, so I often say for example "stupid" instead of "not great" and I don't mean "this person should die and never does anything right", I just mean "this wasn't correct". I'm Christian too, but I don't think other denominations of Christianity and similar (I'm not sure if LDS is Christianity?) don't seem to have this correlation with fantasy/SF. Sure, Tolkien and Lewis were religious, but I don't think there's a general trend for Catholics or Protestants to be more into fantasy than, say, atheists. And Shad lives in Australia, so it can't be just that he went to BYU or something like that. IDK. Maybe other denominations are just shy. For example, most of my Catholic friends aren't very much into fandom and many of my fandom friends are atheists or at least not very Catholic, so it doesn't feel natural to mention the other "part" of me when I'm in a group centered about the other "part". I don't know. There are definitely things here that I wish I could learn. OK, maybe let's talk about werevolves or something. And castles.
  23. Dead woman screaming at everyone in his defense and a ton of shocked honorspren …? I agree he didn't get a lot of screentime, but the time he got was IMO very impactful and emotionally satysfying. Compare him to Dalinar, for example, who had similar or more screentime, but much less awesome in this book. @GroundPetrel I think this WoB gives more detail about the overall vibe of Honor as Shard. I think Kaladin is officially the Honor-est person in the book. I love Adolin, but for a happy future, I think he's much more likely to go worldhopping (Adolin Kholin, the interplanetary fashion critic! I would love to see him roast Wax's fashion choices. ).
  24. I agree about Preservation, but still hold my opinion about Honor. Lift is much more in sync with Cultivation, and various Radiant orders have various degree of Honor/Cultivation. I don't think Lightweavers are strongly of Honor.
