But yeah finwรซ was an alright dude, did some historically significant stuff, invented the concept of re-marriage, and then got murdered by Satan.

Ohhhh wait inventing the concept of remarriage... I remember that! And I had seen this thing on Pinterest that was like ELVES ONLY FALL IN LOVE ONCE and I was like... akshually

(sorry I saw this like weeks later)

I'm not sure how canon the only falling in love once thing is . . . I have also heard it, but never directly from a Tolkien source--not only does Finwรซย ย absolutely fall in love twice, but a few other elves in the Silmarillion do too . . .

Like Finduilas, who loved Gwindor and was betrothed to him, but later fell in love with his friend Turin (as I recall, she didn't really end up marrying either . . . Gwindor dies and Turin marries his sister on accident, but that's besides the point).

Finwรซ's remarriage was so groundbreaking because it happened early enough in history that his wife was literally one of the first sentient beings on the planet to die. Elves weren't just unprepared for second love, they had never even considered it because no one had ever lost their lover at that point in time.
