"Whoops my bad." She looked around, finally being able to see because of the light from his bag. "That was insane. Where did you go?"

Jane Cora Rae jumps up, frightened, not by the critters, but of the creature that may follow. She watched the direction in which the beetles, worms, and rats were scurrying, and quickly, she followed, tracing her hand on the tunnel wall as she ran. Her heart beat was louder than before, and much faster. Her pack swung from her shoulders on her back, and she was blindly following the sounds of the critters through the darkness. Maybe they know the way out. Maybe they know the way away. Maybe they know the way of escape. Maybe they know. Maybe they know how to survive. How to live. Or maybe she was destined to never free herself. I suppose I'll find out. Very soon. Too soon.

"Well. Curse the skies, I'm lost. Let's face it." And the six hour limit was approaching quickly. Soon, the rest of her family would be dead. And it would be her fault. Just like it always was. A tear slipped down her cheek. I miss those times. I didn't ask for this. I didn't ask for any of this. She searched through her pack, which was quite impossible in the dark, so instead she just felt around for her paper and quill. Sitting on the cool, damp floor, she began to write. I write so I don't lose my mind, though what is lost is often more valuable once it is so. Her quill drifted off her paper, so she started on the next line. I write so I lose my thoughts, though writing is the only way for me to preserve them and preserving them is the sole purpose of writing. She took a staggered breath, and wiped a stray tear. I write so I can ignore the past, though the past is the the only steadiness in life when standing in front of the future, and those who cling to the present are the only ones who may stand behind the future, and so I must write. She closed her eyes, the darkness was no different. I write so I can embrace myself, though I do so blindly, without knowing who it is I embrace and the scars I may earn. I write so I can love the simple, the natural, the unknown, the sunrise, and the sunset, the sound of water or the sound of the last leaf upon an autumn's palette, or the laughter of Her hand hesitated here. She stopped. After a moment, she set the paper back into her pouch, and took Aaron's water from her pocket. She drank just a little, and stayed there, on the cold ground, for just a few moments longer. Would a creature appear? It was such an empty cavern. Such a lonesome Labyrinth. The least she could do was give it some company.

"Oh, screw it. I should've climbed up." But she had followed the tracks. Maybe... It wasn't like she had much to lose. She didn't have much of a choice, either. She turned around, and carefully followed the tracks back where she had come from.

Suddenly, Aaron disappeared. "Oh no. Oh come on." "Okay. Train tracks." Jane almost lost balance. She walked slowly, tracing her path along that of the tracks. Oh. Oh. This tunnel wouldn't fit a train, but it would fit a cart. A mining cart. Was she walking towards a mine? There certainly were no animals near, not even bats, or else they would've been attracted already. Well, if she could walk to the mine perhaps there would be jewels, water, or resources. It would only go deeper now. Cooler. Closer to a water source. Perhaps a food source. It didn't matter, but this was her only viable option. She also had to find Aaron again, and this was probably what Aaron would do too. She hoped. Jane set off, going down the track where she suspected a cart may have once been.

Jane merely nodded, her mind elsewhere. "I wish the world didn't have to be like this."

"It's okay. I killed her." She stopped, afraid she had misspoken. "Accidentally. Accidenta- It was an accident. I promise. I'm not- I'm not a murderer or anything, it-" She pressed her nails into her palm. "But. I don't know. I didn't come into this wanting to win. I don't see why..." She ran a hand through her hair. "There are just so many more people. Who want it more. Who deserve it more. You know?"

"Waiting for me?" Well. That was something else entirely. "I mean, my family is living in District Amyra Ay," she would begin with the basics. The facts. The tangible. "I have two parents. I have a twin brother. Aspen Leo Rae. I have an older sister. Delilah Auburn Rae," she took a breath... she was losing air a lot more know that death, killing, the hunger games- It all became more real. She shook her head an continued, "I have an older brother. Pheonix. Another older sister, Hestia." Her face scrunched, no longer sarcastic and saucy. "I had a younger sister. She was four." She looked around, her hands fidgeting with her clothes. "Yeah. Nothing much. Really, no." She looked down, took another breath, and continued walking. "That's all, really. How about you? Any friends back there?" @SmilingPanda19

"I- Thank you." Jane followed him inside the tunnel. Her pack had ink, a quill, and antiquated paper. What would she write about, she wondered. What could she write about? Her hand made a fist in her pocket. She wished she could get out. She needed to get out. But she needed to bring people with her. People like Aaron. Good people. She couldn't kill everyone. Could she? She closed her eyes briefly and cleared her mind. Then, making sure she didn't fall behind, she caught up with Aaron, walking deeper into the tunnel. @Edema Rue

She glanced around. He was being so. So. Nice. To her. Why? He came from peacekeepers, after all. But he was right, they had three hours. Until one of them died. She didn't know what to say. Delilah had never acted like this. Neither had Aspen. Nor Pheonix nor Hestia. She met his eyes, and nodded, the right words not forming in her mouth. "Okay," she said at last, "Let's go figure this out." She looked through her pack. There was no light. "Into the tunnel?" she asked, her voice still shaky.

Jane Cora Rae had gone pale. "No- No. They can't-" She back up slowly, shaking. "No, you want to win. You will win. You-" She shook her head nervously. "This can't be happening, they're so- They're so cruel-" She hit the wall of the tunnel as she back up, and was startled. "I can't kill you, you were helping me-"

"No idea, but going through that dark tunnel seems not good."

Jane looked up, then back at him. "Yeah. Help sounds pretty good right about now."

"I think if I tried..." She hesitated. "Nah. Who am I kidding. If I tried, I wouldn't be able to either." She laughed a little.

"Yeah, good idea." She kneeled down beside him to see what was in the pack.

"I don't know, could be good or bad." They start walking deeper into the hills... @SmilingPanda19 @Edema Rue

"Let's head deeper into the hills, and try to find some friendly people. Or avoid them. It doesn't really matter to me. But let's go somewhere." She looked around. "Also, it seems there are oddly very few animals nearby."

She shrugged. "We'll see. Come on, let's figure out what the deal is with this place."

"Oh. I'm sorry, truly. Whose side were they on?" She paused, and looked away. "Nevermind, that's a useless question." She looked back at him, this time with a smile. "As for your first question, I would never set my hopes that high."

She made a comical expression and shook her head dramatically, "No way." "What happened to your family?"

"Will you win?" She asked, purely curious.

"To be completely honest with you, I don't know why I'm here. I have no ambition to win. Besides one-uping my twin brother." She shrugged. "But dying doesn't sound like a good plan, so let's stick with each other for a bit."
