  1. Mae didn't speak. She simply walked back up to the door to make sure it was locked, for fear of Cedric entering. Then she pulled out a chair for him, and sat down on her bed. "Tell me more about yourself, Envoy."
  2. She held his gaze there for a moment, before looking back down at her hands on the necklace. "You don't know me, Envoy."
  3. "Does this world deserve another chance?" She said, with bitter bile as she pressed hard on the largest sapphire. She then looked up into the mirror, seeing him through the view. "Do I?"
  4. "I am neither, never been either, though I've wished so dearly for one or the other." She traced her hand on her sapphire jeweled necklace on her neck. She had clasped it there earlier today, although she still didn't feel well.
  5. She laughed bitterly. "Hope and trust are child's play. Intellect and betrayal are the goblets of the aristocracy." She paused. "And those, of course, who care for neither, drink wine."
  6. "I believe fate has cut all bleeding strands of hope. Time and time again, I have found that this is the best way. The only way." She looked at him. "I hope you can understand, however, that I cannot speak only for myself. I speak, too, on the behalf of a child." She stood up carefully and walked to the mirror. "I cannot be the mother of an illegitimate child. I wouldn't do that to the baby. I wouldn't do that to myself. Starting life new and innocent... Yet at the scorned disadvantage of society." She applied a dark shade of lipstick slowly as she spoke. "And even if we only have months left. Even if I only see the face of the infant for a few weeks of my life-- even if I only hear for brief seconds the sound of young laughter-- Accepting your proposal and denying Cedric's would mean that I could never wash myself clean of any crystal tear shed by the child. Because I know that I and I alone have damned the infant to such a miserable life." She set down her lipstick. "And so many of us live those lives these days, I do wonder how we've gotten this far before the starfall of our society."
  7. "And I am not." She sighed. "Yet at the same time, I am, unfortunately." Looking out the window, she spoke with a melancholic tone, "It's funny how our lives play out sometimes."
  8. "You always come here and give long soliloquies of freedom and the future and the star and life but I won't hear any of it today." She sat down, determined. "I won't."
  9. "Don't tempt me." She said, holding out her hand but not looking up. "In two months time, I'm tragedy's bride."
  10. "Cedric," Mae hesitated. Then she just shook her head, turned around, and left.
  11. 'Have you taken a shower?" Mae stopped in front of him.
  12. Mae, stubborn as she was, just continued clearing away the empty drinks. "How are those, Cedric? The alcohol is shipped from France, you know. If they're any good, we'll buy them for when we have guests over. I was thinking about inviting a few of my friends in a fortnight. The Hillsdale family? They're the second closest to the royals."
  13. "Is it Envoy?" She waved away the remaining servants, so she was left alone in with him in the room. Envoy had hurt his pride. And his ego was too fragile for that.

*many hugs* I’m also doing theatre from 10-5 this Saturday…do you have to be there the whole time? On a scale of one to ten, how likely is your director to murder you?

@The Paradoxical Phenomenon i unfortunately cannot do that. at all.

in order of importance/feasability/requirements/what i'll end up doing:

      1. theatre (i've already talked to my director. she will murder me. also i'm not helping with tech im actually in the cast so i need to learn choreography and everything for the show. i talked with her and she expects me to be there. so. yeah. that didnt go well.)

      2. model congress (my parents will be super disappointed if i miss this. which i'll probably have to do.)

      3. puppy (my entire family is picking him up. i really wish i didnt have to miss this.)

      4. festival of cultures (i gave my friend my word that i'd be there... and it was recently her birthday too...)

      5. basketball (i can just go to another one of her games and miss this one. she has another game coming up anyway.)

yeah... overbooking isnt fun... neither is high school... lets hope this doesn't happen again.

although in a few weeks i have a piano recital on the same day as a family friend's bat mitzvah on the same day as a few family guests coming over on the same day as a vocal concert

i need to stop doing this to myself

It's alright, sometimes these sort of things happen. I'm sorry, I hope it goes as well as it can.

  15. Mae walked downstairs cautiously. "I-" She closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them again. "I've gotten news from my parents, that's all." She began to mindlessly stack a few empty glasses for clearing as she spoke. "They've found a carriage to take them across Asia, which they intend to take instead of waiting for their ship." She paused, looking up at him. "They'll be here in two months time. We must prepare for the wedding."
  16. "Cedric?" Mae called out again. "There's something I must tell you."
  17. Mae stepped outside of her room. "Cedric?" @SmilingPanda19
  18. "Tell him I am in quite the distraught state, but that I bade him go."
  19. “Tell him to leave.” He stands tall in front of the door. “I want him out of my home.” He grits his teeth, forcing himself to not reach for his revolver. "Is he outside right now?" She asked calmly.
