  1. That's fair, the first two episodes are slow, as I remember, but it really picks up in the third.
  2. You should watch Andor! It's a prequel to Rogue One! It's really good, spoken as not a huge Star Wars fan.
  3. (I got in even though I'll be missing three PERFORMANCES! I am 1st Rivendell* Elf/Mirkwood Ensemble! *although they misspelled it as Rivendale Yeah, nobody asked, but I'm excited.)
  4. I like your member title very much

  5. 73%! Haha!
  6. Almost wish he hadn't told us that Mistborn got so far in the movie area... Sigh.
  7. "Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus over the Sarengeti" -Africa It's a real good one
  8. I didn't use a story, because the time limit was 45 seconds (!) and that would just be too long. Instead I used the him insulting people one. I edited and trimmed it a little bit, and this was the final product: Oh wait, @OOKLA_the LIV you asked too, didn't you? I can't quote in an edit, so just tagging you
  9. I'm pretty sure this is the case with all or most of the flashback chapters. Shallan's, at least I know for sure off the top of my head is this way. I believe Dalinar's is as well.
  10. No, he did. He was like "my monologue is from The Sunlit Man" and I was like... how many sunlit mans are there? Then he did it. And it was Hoid. And I was flabbergasted. Also after I did mine, the director was like... "what was that from again?" and I was like, "the way of kings by brandon sanderson" and the other guy was like "Same character as mine, actually... just a lot earlier." I was utterly amazed. If that guy is on here, say hi!
  11. YKYASW you use a Hoid monologue for an audition for The Hobbit play. MAJOR PLOT TWIST: Another guy also used a monologue from a book. The book was also a Sanderson book. The monologue... WAS ALSO A HOID MONOLOGUE. I auditioned with only FOUR OTHER PEOPLE out of like SIXTY AUDITIONING OVERALL. This is insane.
  12. I'm sure everybody around you was very confused. A wonderful thing!

But yeah finwë was an alright dude, did some historically significant stuff, invented the concept of re-marriage, and then got murdered by Satan.

Ohhhh wait inventing the concept of remarriage... I remember that! And I had seen this thing on Pinterest that was like ELVES ONLY FALL IN LOVE ONCE and I was like... akshually

    4. Mags

      Mags

(sorry I saw this like weeks later)

I'm not sure how canon the only falling in love once thing is . . . I have also heard it, but never directly from a Tolkien source--not only does Finwë  absolutely fall in love twice, but a few other elves in the Silmarillion do too . . .

Like Finduilas, who loved Gwindor and was betrothed to him, but later fell in love with his friend Turin (as I recall, she didn't really end up marrying either . . . Gwindor dies and Turin marries his sister on accident, but that's besides the point).

Finwë's remarriage was so groundbreaking because it happened early enough in history that his wife was literally one of the first sentient beings on the planet to die. Elves weren't just unprepared for second love, they had never even considered it because no one had ever lost their lover at that point in time.

  17. Do y'all wanna see probably the best drawing I've ever done? (admittedly, it's enhanced slightly (upping contrast and brightness and stuff, but the unenhanced one is included.)

Bonus (reputation) points if you can tell who it is!

  18. Um... wow. Also I can't believe how many of those errors I totally did not notice. On first glance, the only mistake I noticed was "allomansy". All of the other, far more egregious ones escaped my notice. Weird how brains work.
  19. Hello! Nice to see ya
  20. I know I'm a bit late but *sobs* don't replace me! i'm magical!
  21. Something that in context of whatever you're quoting is horrible, but you just use it all the time, for example (ones I quote): "See you in two weeks!" -Frozen "Yes. I wish that." -Return of the King "You'll see! Oh yes. You will see." -Also Return of the King
  22. Random sad Lord of the Rings fact to ruin your day:

    Spoiler

So you know how Elrond and Arwen (in the movies) have that whole thing where Elrond's like "I looked into your future, and I saw death," because Arwen's choosing mortality instead of going to the Undying Lands? Well... that's probably even sadder than you're thinking. In Tolkien's legendarium, Elves and Men have different afterlives. So when the two of them say goodbye, they are saying goodbye FOREVER, NEVER to meet again.

Text citation in case you don't believe me:

    Quote

"...Arwen Evenstar remained also, and she said farewell to her brethren. None saw her last meeting with Elrond her father, for they went up into the hills and there spoke long together, and bitter was their parting that should endure beyond the ends of the world." (chapter I don't know, the chapters in Lord of the Rings are confusing: Many Partings.)

So yes. Have fun with that information. Also I typed this with gloves on.

      Why not?

      Spoiler

You absolutely should read it. Tolkien's writing is the foundation of modern family fantasy and the cause of a lot of tropes and conventions that we have today. That's not to say he invented fantasy, as I've heard said. He modernized it, brought it to the forefront of literature.

I could recommend any one of more than a dozen fantasy series, but if someone hasn't read LotR, I always suggest they read that first. It is an incredible piece of writing, and well worth the read.

@Kajsa That's sad. You should also watch the movies if you ever have a chance. Extended edition if possible :D And thank you for the compliment!

(i'm not trying to be aggressive, watch what you want, but you should see it at some point in your life. And read it too, because you don't want to miss the singing, dancing version of Hoid that isn't in the movie that you will NEVER understand, because nobody does! And also the evil trees that eat you and the wizard-ruining-your-childhood scene.)

So, yeah. I second @The cheeseman's motion, haha, sorry for the torrent of words

@Just a Silvereye Thank you for the compliment! Yes, this is quite a song. I just Connected this song with The One Ring and couldn't get them unConnected.
