  1. [I sense backstory. Hmmmmm....] Sarian nodded. "I guess it is a pretty stupid way of doing things. Basing biases off of something you can't control. Either way... thank you. But I'd prefer it if we were partners. You know?" She grinned. "And I also kill. Well. I mean, if i've spilled my biggest secret, what do I have to hide? I'm an assassin. For other assassins. I know, it's weird. But I don't think that I'm a good enough person for you to lend your services too. There are better people out there." Her eyes suddenly gave off the impression of one, though not even 30, who has gone through more than most would go through in lifetimes. "The world is a cruel place. You're one of the good people. The very few. And- uh- thanks. I never expected anyone to compliment my eyes, of all things... Anyway. I'm not great with medical stuff, but I've seen people bandage others and I'm sure I could replicate it. Oh- you would make a better noble than any I've met, too. Except for my parents. They were good ones, too. But they died. Insanity. Took both of them." She waved her hands in front of her. "But lets not make this about me. I'm sure I have some good cloth somewhere..." She rummaged around in her bad [I forgot to mention she has one...] and pulled out a shirt. "I can probably rip this up and use it for your leg." @HOID WANTS INSTANT NOODLES
  2. Sarian's Cryptic spren slowly climbed down from her forearm and onto her hand. "Hello," it muttered quietly to the dustspren. Sarian smiled. "Yeah. Intricate's been wanting to say hi. She's shy, though." She lowered her voice, "yes, I do need stormlight. I... have an illusion I need to keep up. It's nothing big, but... wellm you seem like a good person. I'm not actually a lighteyes. Or a darkeyes. I'm..." Here she paused, and shook her head. She let her illusion fall for a second. It showed her violet eye and brown eye. She quickly brought it up again, with a sad expression. "It costs a lot of stormlight to keep it going for a while, but... It's worth it. I got... mistreated because of my eyes. Well, anyway... thanks for the spheres." She smiled at him. Then grimaced when she saw his leg, and the pinch mark. "Maybe we should get that fixed up... I can do the rest of the roof." (Wow.) @HOID WANTS INSTANT NOODLES
  3. My character shalt (I get a bit excited when roleplaying and I occasionally slip into old English) be Clanda Swinnli. She is a middle-class citizen (aged 22) in the Tribe of Fire and Light, and, though a user of Light magic, secretly practices Darkness. She knows that in her clan (This might not be true, please correct me) it would be considered at least a bit taboo to be practicing darkness, but she's never seen it as something to fear, but as something kind. Something that brings peace, shut-eye, and softness. However, it's also terrifying and overpowering, and she wants to learn how to control it, along with it's counterpart. It turned out that practicing two seperate magics, opposite, and being able to actually do well with each attracted attention from beings... well, not human ones, to say the least. By that, I mean dragons. She's now enrolled at the School of Dragons, and is trying to forget how the people looked at her when she was forced to use her darkness (and light) in a dangerous situation. (More will come on the backstory. Still working it out. Something like she was in a situation in a Dark Alley where bad stuff was happening and she needed to escape, and in doing so used both her magics to blind and then hide.) Congrats on your 1000th post! (I still have quite a while to go.)
  4. Sarian stood agape, clutching the spheres to her chest. "You know you just gave away free money, right?" It was more than money to her---it was also a source of energy and food, and would keep the illusion over her eyes going, but she just couldn't. Somehow the bllue-skinned koloss named Roul before her was not subject to greed. No one she knew wasn't. Those thieves who had delivered her to the Lighteye those years ago, the Lighteye himself, all the horrible people who worked for him, ever person who had hired her and everyone she knew were greedy. All of them. But this person... would give away money to someone he had just met? She shook her head. "No. Take these. If you don't take them, I'm tossing them outside, where they will inevitably go to waste. Or i'll smash them. Bury them. Burn them. I don't know! Just take them." She thrust them out to him. "Also... I think you might need help getting out of there. You know. Seeing as your foot went through the roof. Literally." She held out a hand (which she concealed the spheres in, in hopes to get him to take them back.) "Wait did you say latrines-" @HOID WANTS INSTANT NOODLES @ZincAboutIt @EmulatonStromenkiin
  5. I absolutely adore LOTR. I've watched all the movies. Three times. Each. (Yeah, not sure that that is healthy but lets go with it.) They were some of my favorite books (until I read Branderson) and are still up there. They are just incredible!! I would say... Gosh this is hard... inside the books, at least, my favorite character would be Legolas?? Maybe? It's actually hard for me to choose... but yes, I also love the Silmarillion and I want to learn Elvish.
  6. Roul seemed to be really finding himself in the work. Then he glanced at her and shuddered. Hopefully it wasn't because of her... Either way, she supposed she should get to work. The koloss (Roul. She needed to get better at calling people by their names, and not their titles) was working diligently already, while she was... well, looking around and surveying people. I should be more like him. People must like him. I mean, not that I need or want people to like me or anything. Just... he seems nice. Not the judgmental type. "So, should I get to work?" Sarian asked Tashi. "Oh- by the way, how much does it cost for some paper and a writing utensil?" @HOID WANTS INSTANT NOODLES @ZincAboutIt @EmulatonStromenkiin
  7. Sarian didn’t blush—she wouldn’t allow herself to stoop to that level of softness—and declined. “It’s fine. I can... roof re-tar.” She was still unused to be called ‘Brightness.’ Honestly, she still expected the disgusted stares from lighteyed and darkeyed alike. Well, being called Brightness was better than being called B***rd and Half-breed. Anyway, she had pride to uphold and she would not allow herself to be deemed a weak, pampered lighteyed tyrant. As they all were. Except for her mother, maybe. Either way, though she didn’t like manual labor (as the lady had said with her judgmental grin...) she wasn’t weak. She had done her fair share of dirty deeds and had gone places most wouldn’t go. Maybe this wasn’t the time for monologuing and time to make a better impression on these people. “I can kill people,” she said brightly. Then she realized this probably wasn’t the best way to prove to them what a great person she was. “I mean, I’m not a thug. I hate criminals. And I can sleep in the back annex.” she turned to the new man who had entered. He put her on guard. There was a sort of wisdom to him; someone who had seen a lot and wasn’t swayed easily. Hmm... she thought. @ZincAboutIt @EmulatonStromenkiin @HOID WANTS INSTANT NOODLES
  8. Sarian gulped. She had faced monsters, insanity, cruelty... but roof re-tarring? Not something she wanted to be a part of. "Sure," she forced out before she could change her mind. Remember, these people don't know you. For all they can tell, you're some nice lighteyed lady. "We don't have to... share in the back annex, right? How big is it? Will we get our own sheets and blankets?" The new person looked nice enough, but Sarian kept an eye on her. Nice people usually turned out... to be not as nice as they seemed. @ZincAboutIt
  9. Sarian looked at the newcomer (not that she wasn't one). He appeared to be a koloss. She had heard of them, or course---who hadn't?---but he seemed... calmer, in some way, than she had assumed most would be. She hadn't met any in person, so the blue skin was... new. Still, she filed away everything she saw, to see if it would help her later on. Blue. Seems like he's restraining himself. He wants to work? I suppose I should ask, too, though... even though I hate doing work like that. I hate to do work like that... back then. But that's in the past. Nothinglikethatwillhappenagain. Nothinglikethatwillhappenagain. I need to work. I need the money. She shook her head, sadly chuckling to herself. And it comes back to money again. "Might I work too? So I can afford rent?" She gritted her teeth, hating to sound so... in need. She had told herself she wouldn't need anyone ever again, yet here she was... She turned to the koloss. He said his name was... what was it... Roul? "Roul. It's a pleasure to meet you." She made herself smile, though it didn't come naturally.
  10. "Six feet of distance" That's ingenious. "Sorry, no refunds."
  11. We all know their love/hate relationship. @Robin Sedai You found it!
  12. This reminds me of the time Calvin and Hobbes were playing hide and seek, but when Calvin was hiding, Hobbes went and read all of his precious comics...
  13. Aha thank you- I have now made a signature I am relatively happy with. You're welcome! Also, Alas, Good Calvin.
  14. Welcome to the Shard! It's a really nice place. The community is great, and you'll find that a lot of people like the same things as you (even not Sanderson books...). That seems like a good reading order. Which book/series do you like the most?
  15. 487. Having a sharp tongue means you're powerful.
  16. Oh. Don't have any of the books, but I've read some strips and they're amazing. Especially since a character is a fellow D&D player. You can see how his glasses are cracked in the last panel... Also (this is going to sound stupid but) how do you make a signature?
  17. I also like your signature. Also, since Suzy and Calvin are the best- (Oh BTW sorry I went AFK for a bit I needed to take a shower) Remember the school play? Also, @Robin Sedai did you read the annotated Calvin and Hobbes book with the authors notes on the scenes and everything?
  18. Yeah. They got more sophisticated, in some way. Also, I heard that there used to be pads on Hobbes hands, but they were distracting. I love your signature, by the way-
  19. The one where he steals Rosalyn's notes... Also the one where the teacher asks what state he lives in, and he says, "Denial".
  20. Someone please send a Calvin and Hobbes comic strip.
